imho a near worthless gem. Spell penetration is of limited use for either pvp or pve. The biggest problem with this gem is not so much that its bad, as that there are much more desirable gems for any purpose. For PvP you'll want Solid stars of Elune, and for PvE spell penetration is not really necessary at all.

If you need a little spell penetration, put a +20 chant on your cloak. theres not many other options out there that are better anyway, except for possibly 120 ac on your pvp cloak

Let me explain to you guys, why this gem shines. True enough, +5 spell critical is less than +8 from a Gleaming Dawnstone and true enough that spell penetration blows nuts in most cases.

However! +5 spell crit is only 3 less than +8 spell crit and this baby counts for a BLUE gem.

Why is that significant? Well, the Metagem with +14 spell crit requires at least 2 blue gems (and 2 red and 2 yellow). There are only 3 non bop gems ingame that counts as a blue gem, this is one of them. The other one being from hellfire peninsula pvp and the third dropping in shattered halls.

For the oddest reason, this gem dropped from Hungarfen in Heroic Underbog. At first i was excited i got it, but then i checked Atlas and realized it drops from the last boss, Black Stalker.

EDIT: I found out that Atlas isn't entirely right. This has dropped from any of the bosses, but Atlas says it drops only from the Black Stalker.

Its confirmed that all the Heroic gems now drop off all the bosses. This was updated in one of the recent patches and likely Atlas hasn't been updated yet.

Spell penetration isn't that useful a stat in pve, so for that (and for pvp aswell) I'd take Glowing Nightseye (+5 Spell Damage and +6 Stamina) over Radiant Cryosphase for those blue slots. For almost any setup and class it would yield a higher dps boost.
