First time I got a green tabard, so I rerolled another character, got it to 70, and got a purple one. True story.

Note that this has not been tested, nor do I recommend it as a solution. I simply thought I should mention it as I know at least I would have been very disappointed if I wouldn't have gotten the tabard I wanted.

In any case, I have witnessed the contains of all kind of boxes you can hold in your inventory to change if you don't loot them, but simply open them to check what's inside, and then close them again. I don't know what trigger this switch, be it the act of logging in or out, or a server restart, but it should apply to this box as well. Just laying it out there, the choice is up to you...

It's true. Boxes sometimes do change its contents. I once held a box with BoP plans in them, so I didn't want to loot it (Fished it our of Lurker's pool in SSC). Nothing special, some lame level 40 green weapon plan. After a wipe, and zoning back in for another attempt, I looked in the box to link the contents to someone, and there was 2 bolts of mageweave in it instead.

The Schrodinger's Cat phenomenon works with many containers of boxes. The contents change on zoning (which including logging in and out again). I don't know which boxes are affected by this bug. This particular container may be, but I haven't tried the trick with it.

The changing of contents bug was fixed in a previous patch, not sure what one. So it's only a waste of time trying to change it. ;)

Note: Before looting the box!

If you get this box and the tabard that's inside is not the color you want then read this:

If you don't get what you want the first time, DO NOT loot the box and wait 2 hrs, every chest resets after 1-2 hrs, you will get what you want eventually.

I really wish you could choose which one of the two you wanted, but it is random.

I got the green one on both of my characters that did this quest.
