If you already use totem of the void then this is a definate upgrade. Totem of pulsing earth is only used in fights where I am certain I will run oom or cut it close, so if this drops pick it up. You can't really compare the two totems because they will be used in different situations, or at least that is how you should be using them.

This totem is the best all-purpose relic for Elemental shamans in both PvE and PvP. Dps testing places this item a bit above the new Skycall Totem from Badges of Justice - https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=33506.

Don't forget that the haste totem scales with your gear (a faster LB worths more if it damages more) while this gives you a static dmgup value.

Also in patch 2.4 spell haste rating now affects global cooldown.

Basically like the +55 LB/CL totem from Mechanar, but more so. Elemental shamans who don't use the -25 mana cost from BoJ's can use this for some major damage, since by the time they're in black temple they should already have uber spell damage either way. Speaking of which, does anybody happen to know what a decent or above-decent spell damage count for elemental shamans should be by the time they head into black temple? Or even lower level raids for that matter (being an elemental shammy myself).

I have about +850 spell unbuffed and without totem (+120 more). Several bosses from SSC on farm but I still have some blue items. I assume you should have something like +1100/1200 at the time of BT...

In regards to a shaman's spellcrit. Personally, i prefer spelldmg over spellcrit, since it seems i crit often enough with +11% to lightning spellcrit. besides, double-cast and crit on both is a surefire way to steal threat from a tank. i don't know about tanks geared for raids, because i've yet to raid, but that's my two cent on spellcrit and spelldmg.

Right but spellcrit doubles for shamans as mana efficiency as well. Back in the day when shaman clearcasting functioned the same as mage clearcasting, eshams were just given a spellcrit lead but geared the same as mages.

Now with clearcasting operating more like illumination, each one of those LB crits makes the next 132 mana cheaper when chaincasting... so technically speaking 1% spellcrit would be equal to 3.3 mp5

1% spellcrit means 1% chance to proc clearcasting, reducing your mana use by 132 over the next 2 seconds. 132/2 = 330/5, hence 1% increase to gain 330mp5 would be 3.3mp5.

With ToPE, LB's cost goes down to 305, saving you 122 mana per clearcast, making 1% spellcrit with ToPE 3.05mp5.

For anyone curious of crit rating instead of %, values convert to-

WITH ToPE- ~7.25 spellcrit rating = 1mp5
WITHOUT ToPE- ~6.70 spellcrit rating = 1mp5

EDIT- Note: those values are ignoring spell resist rate and are assuming 5/5 Lightning Mastery for 2.0 second cast time LBs

Ppl are a little wrong..

1. Tanks are pulling plenty of aggro to hold up against shaman crit bursts.. however an elemental mastery opener is not recomended.

2, after scanning most of the best guilds in the world, shaman are after 800-900 spell dmg, buffing to around 1k in a raid, and about 240 regen. They cant match a decent fire mage, but are a group buff, not a pure DPS'er

The highests DPS shaman i have seen has only 890 dmg, but 32% to crit b4 talents.
with 2 piece Skyshaterer and 2 piece cyclone, add another 140 from wrath of air.
+ lightning capicator

nice dps.. not to mention
140+dmg
+5% to crit
and 23 MP5
To the rest of his group..... no to shabby!

EXACTLY, I definitely do more than 1.5k each hit with my elemental shamman and more than 3k on crits. The elemental tree is designed to provide more dps on crit, and in my experience it has greatly increased my dps to be more crit oriented than +spell dmg. Anyone who has ever played an elemental shamman without having their head up their butt knows that we are powerhouses. And I only have +18% crit unbuffed, +390 spell dmg, LOL My Shammy

ok an ele shaman crit is way more important. also on youtube just so u know if u do a search for highest crit a video of an ele shaman comes up and it deals a 25000 crit! thats actually all spell damage on his gear but u need a balance of both.( in the 60s there is invoker gear as in leggings of the invoker which does damage crit and i think stamana... good for ele)
