You can use this item from your flying mount, no need to get off.

And it's used for a quest after you get friendly with Netherwing.

Curiously, I seem to be having a bit of an issue in which every target I attempt to subdue returns "invalid".

I've tested this a couple of times with different people successfully using their booterang on targets that I have tried and failed to use it on.

Just a heads up.

Hunter tip: easiest and quickest way to get your 20 peons subdued is to put Cheetah on, and Track Dragonkin (to watch out for the big guys who see through your disguise). Just leg it around the island whacking peons with your boot and avoiding dragons (use feign death if needed - none have resisted so far). Quest will take 10 mins. I found it a lot easier than doing from mount.

Awesome Full Metal Jacket reference.

And the quest it really easy itself. You don't even have to get off your mount so the dragons aren't even a problem. Just look for the Red or Confused looking orcs.

I believe this is a reference to a stand-up bit by Eddie Murphy (as captured on the "Delirious" movie) described his mother throwing shoes at him to discipline him, and then mentioned that some of them had heels which made thim like boomerang shoes, and in the bit has her talking on the phone in another room when he did something, threw the shoe around the corner, hit him, then returned to her hand.

If you do this while mounted on an epic mount, you'll move faster than the boots and can have them chase you forever.

You can even have multiple boots chasing you at once!

Very amusing.

This is combined with Austin power's "Random Task" named after Oddjob who throws a shoe instead of a hat.

It's a daily quest. You can do it once every day.

With classic TBC there's a lot more players around on servers like Firemaw (EU), which can make this quest troublesome.

Here's a usefull macro when doing this quest:

/target dis
/run SetRaidTarget("target", 8);
/use booterang

This macro targets either of the peons needed, sets the skull raid marker onto it, and casts booterang. Just spam it as you fly around on top of hills and between crystals and look for the skull marker, fly close to it and keep spamming the same macro so it casts the item onto the NPC when close enough.
