I just learned it by making Major Arcane Protection Potions... I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or if you can only learn it by making those potions.

So far all reports are that you learn the cauldron from crafting the resistance potion of same school... So arcane protection cauldrons from Major Arcane Protection Potions

I also discovered this on my first Arcane Prot. Pot. combine. Is that standard? I was happy to get very lucky, but would be even happier if I could learn all the other cauldrons that easily.

An important note about the potions these cauldrons create: they are unique and soulbound meaning each raid member can only have 1 at a time and they cannot be traded. Cauldrons are not a means of stocking up on potions for specific fights (ie: the tanks can't get 10 Arcane Protection Potions each from the cauldron for the Curator) but rather providing the entire raid with a little bit of protection.

Keep this in mind when making these cauldrons.

Seems like there is no cauldron for Major Holy Protection Potions. Made 8 or so pots and did not discover. Others discovered in 1-3 tries

Does anyone know if these or the new creations of the normal pots(5 per creation) are subject to the proc of the potions mastery? If so, what kind of procs can be expected? extra 5 stacks, or single extras? Thanks for the info.

Requirements to make a discovery

You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.

As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.

NOT requirements to make a discovery

You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)

r these crafted and holdable in inventory or is it like a soulwell were its on the ground at the end of the cast? if it is kept in inventory anyone know if its bop or boe?

This is a discovery to be able to craft these raid-potions.
I got it with my druid day after the patch was implemented.

These cauldrons can be discovered by any alchemist regardless of skill level or specialty. The discovery of cauldrons is reported to have a very high proc rate, usually within the first few batches.
The Cauldron can only be discovered while making the associated potion. Major Arcane Protection Potion yields Cauldron of Major Arcane Protection.
Shadow for Shadow and so on.
There is no Holy Protection Cauldron (I made about 13 batches before i read this somewhere, now i have 65 Holy Prot Potions).

The Major Holy, Shadow and Arcane Protection Potion recipes are world drops and can be solo'd for. The rest are instance drops, or rep reward.

Cauldrons are a conjured item like the warlocks ritual of souls creating a soul well. The potion that results from a cauldron is a conjured item which will disappear when you've been logged out for a while.

My guild found it useful for the Voidreaver fight in The Eye. During the fight he shoots arcane orbs that hit the ranged. One of these pots does mean the difference between life and death.

looks great but the mats seem like a lot for 5min

the primals alone would cost 34g

id say if this was gonna be done split the mats with others (if possible) If you think thats asking too much, then remember that you are using about 50g -65g worth in mats just for a potion(that is huge and awsome) but still a multi potion. Asking someone to make these for your group by themselves for over half of 100g seems a bit outrageous.

I discovered it after my second batch of 5 potions made.

Keep in mind the following limitations about the potions you get from this cauldron.

1. Bind on Pickup. You can't transfer them from character to character in the raid.

2. Unique. You can only get one. However, you can drink it, and then get another one. But since it only lasts 2 mins, you have to time it right.

3. Conjured. The potions disappear like any other conjured items (mage bread, mage water, soulstone) when you log out for more than a few minutes.

For a 10-person raid like Kara, the cauldron is less flexible than just making 2 batches (10 potions) of the regular Major Arcane Protection potion, for roughly the same ingredients.

For a 25-person raid, the cauldron is a bit more useful.

It's still a nice potion to have, and a cauldron might be cheaper all around than making tons of pots.
Also, by having the potion up, you're not getting any interruptions while casting. Having this up while fighting curator definitely helps take down the flares faster because there's no slowdown of any spell casts.
Paladins can use a different aura rather than use their concentration aura for the fight.
The choice for this vs. a mana pot is quite clear because the goal is to take down the flares as effeciently as possible, without too much interruption. A mana pot doesn't help you if a flare is coming at you with two rogue party members in tow. The damage given by the flares just eats healer's mana, and once the healers are out of mana, that's basically the end of the raid.

Does the cauldron bind after use? or disappear?

I got the recipe after about two hours of killing the arcanist mobs that drop it. Made two batches, learned the cauldron after the second one. In a ten man raid like Kara you're able to pop the pot just before pull, grab another and have the second pot waiting for the second round of flares. Not having to heal the non-tanks as much in those first two rounds makes the Curator a much easier fight.

I farmed the major arcane and major shadow prot potions, then learned cauldrons the first time I made each potion. I then made some major nature prot potions (which I had not made before) and learned the cauldron for that. I don't know whether this is just incredibly lucky , or whether they changed the discovery rate. The cauldrons are for specialized use, certainly, but they make a massive difference when used properly. Don't think just about the cash implications of wipe versus no wipe - no wipe also means less time faffing around and more time looting.

You can don't know all recipes Major ... Potection Potion and anyway get a cauldron. I get mine only after I created 10-15 packs of Major Arcane Protection Potions=)

sweet nice thing but best of all im a engineer so im gona make some money out of this:) becuase any engineer worth his explosives know 2 have some of the fel iron casing they needed a lot.
but if any of u alch need a feliron casing i help u just got 2 trade me some potion for them or money do

I was wondering if you needed to be Potion Specced to discover this, cause after reading that everyone had found it after their 2nd batch, and I didn't get it after my 2nd batch, I was kind of upset, but I made a 3rd batch and got it.

These cauldrons can be created and stored in the bank for use at a later time!

This is important to note, as I've been farming the frost resist potion for a while and a guildie has it... only problem is he's going to be tanking for us in SSC on a different toon. We did an experiment to see if creating a cauldron and storing it in the guild bank was possible, and it is. So if anyone else has a similar issue, now you know, it's possible to store these and pull them out before raids.
