Learned this cauldron tonight, was making 5 sets of 5x major nature protection potions. I learned it on the last one and was laughing because I didn't really think it would happen. Guess it could be useful for hydross.

An important note about the potions these cauldrons create: they are unique and soulbound meaning each raid member can only have 1 at a time and they cannot be traded. Cauldrons are not a means of stocking up on potions for specific fights (ie: the tanks can't get 10 Arcane Protection Potions each from the cauldron for the Curator) but rather providing the entire raid with a little bit of protection.

Keep this in mind when making these cauldrons.

Had mats for a set of 5x Major Nature Protection Potion in my bag, so I figured what the hell, I'll just make it and try to sell it. First time I ever made that potion.
Proced this cauldron and I bet it will make an excellent addition to the guild in SSC.

Requirements to make a discovery

You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.

As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.

NOT requirements to make a discovery

You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)

Cauldrons - To discover these you need to be crafting the related major protection potion. Cauldron of Major Holy Protection is believed to be non-existent. The discovery of these recipes is much more likely.

Can these cauldrons only be placed by alchemists, or can they be traded/sent to others and placed by them?

These cauldrons can be discovered by any alchemist regardless of skill level or specialty. The discovery of cauldrons is reported to have a very high proc rate, usually within the first few batches.
The Cauldron can only be discovered while making the associated potion. Major Nature Protection Potion yields Cauldron of Major Nature Protection.

There is no Holy Protection Cauldron (I made about 13 batches before i read this somewhere, now i have 65 Holy Prot Potions).

The Major Holy, Shadow and Arcane Protection Potion recipes are world drops and can be solo'd for. The rest are instance drops, or rep reward.

discovered after making 15 major nature prot pots,
was my first discovey made thousands of pots and elixers before and never had a discovery. dont know if this i gonna help me getting my epic flight form cus i havent sold any yet.

To help get an estimate on how many creations it takes for the cauldron to proc off the prot pots. I discovered mine on the 9th try.

Have made 5 stacks (25!) Major Nature Protection Potion....to no avail. I am awaiting the cauldron still :( I must be unlucky in this area.
