This is a VERY nice totem, seeing as about 50% of a shaman's heals (optimally) are chain heals

Does anyone mind explaining the new change to this item for Patch 2.4?

For Patch 2.4, the equip bonus becomes, "Reduces the base mana cost of Chain Heal by 20."

When comparing Totem of Healing Rains vs. Totem of Living Water, I discovered that switching to Living Water provided almost no mana efficiency while using rank 5 Chain Heals. All it does is help you last longer in a fight but you'll be losing HPS (heal per second) by a fairly proportional amount.

With rank 4 Chain Heal, the mana efficiency is a little more noticeable because the flat 20 mana reduction is a higher percentage for rank 4. It's still not a huge significance but it will help if you're still running out of mana while downranking.

Is this item worth it to spend if someone was to get totem from Maiden as well? id like to know if i should just wait for that and spend mine on the armor or buy this instead

I recently bought Totem of Living Water with badges and have to say that it is a very nice totem. On a fight like Void Reaver, where I am casting Chain Heal 90pct of the fight, this Totem is very nice. On our last Void Reaver kill, I used Chain Heal 56 times.

56 * 20 = 1120 Mana = roughly 2.5 extra chain heal casts

2.5 * 6000(2000 is the avg amount healed by my chain heal so 2000 * 3 = 6000 per 3 jumps) = 15,000 extra healing.

Now, Im not exactly sure how Totem of Healing Rains works, but lets say that it gives you +87 healing total per cast, which is what I assume it does. With this scenario if I had Totem of Healing Rains on my last Void Reaver fight it would amount to:

87 * 56 = 4,872

Even if Totem of Living Rains works how Pharaz suggested in a previous post under Totem of Living Rains, it would be like this, assuming it adds to each jump and factoring in Resto Talents:

217 * 56 = 12,152

So you can see that Totem of Living Water would actually allow you to do more healing output than Totem of Living Rains on a fight like Void Reaver.

Well, dont forget that each jump after the initial on Chain Heal is reduced by 50%, compared to the last. So it's 2000, 1000 and 500 without bonuses, not 2000x3.

I would like point some things out. Totem of healing rains increases the base cost, meaning: It adds the same amount of +healing even when you downrank chain heal.
So spamming downranked chain heal with totem of healing rains is a VERY VERY efficient way of raid healing.

And no chain heal does not heal for 2000*3=6000. Chain heal heals three targets for 100% 50% and 25%. So 2000*1.75=3500 is the correct estimation in your case. Also you should take into account the downranking as I mentioned.

I would say it is a good totem but don't waste your badges on this totem if you already got totem of healing rains. There is always something better to use them on,,

The Totem of Living Water, with no haste (Most shamans have some haste, ranging from possibly 50haste rating to more. Depending on how you gear and what fight you're doing) will give you essentially 40mp5 on a "spam fight", not including lag. 40mp5 is simply godly - and it's even higher if you have Haste. As a shaman, I SPAM chainheals because they're so effective and barely overheal, so my mana suffers. This totem does nothing but help. Because of this, the Totem of Living Water my totem of choice for Chainheals.

Looking at it the other way, the Totem of Healing Rains is useful in other situations. The base healing is great for fights where your mana isn't especially important - specifically Reliquary of Souls. It's also useful for farmed encounters (ZA, Karazhan) and Trash Pulls, where durability and survivability is your main concerned as opposed to your mana.

Do yourself a favor, get both totems. They're both extremely useful.
