almost 4% hit and more than 2% crit on the very same staff, not bad, and worth mentioning is the 3 sockets, which can give you 10*3 more crit rate, or maybe 12*3 extra spelldamage, or for the pvper, maybe an extra 45 stamina.

With the exception of this item and a couple others others, the lack of hit rating on these new items is interesting.

Perhaps Blizzard is trying to steer players in the direction of stacking a lot of hit on just a couple items. With 3x Great Lionseye, this item has a whopping 80 spell hit rating.

It may be different for other casters, but as a Destruction Warlock who needs 202 hit rating, this staff is very attractive. It frees up other slots for 2.4's multitude of sexy haste items.

This would be an excellent switch weapon for bosses when you really need the +hit, you only need 16% on bosses, and trash is normally lvl 71 or 72, so you can drop 8%... Alternatively, if you want to use this weapon all the time, you can drop points from your +hit talents, assuming your class has that.

Wow. This would be nice for a balance druid as well, imo. Between the INT and spellhit...yum!

3x Veiled Topaz is what I'd start with on this, but 3x Great Dawnstone or Great Lionseye would be very, very nice.

Its a nice replacement to this combo Tempest of Chaos and Chronicle of Dark Secrets
Wowhead!
Add 3 x +5 spell crit + 6 spell Potent Pyrestone gems

Put em side by side and this is what u get

Combo has

sta=46
int=34
hit = 34
crit = 2.56
dmg=301

Staff has

sta=57
int=52
hit = 50
crit = 3.57
dmg = 289

So +11 stamina + 18 intellect + 16 hit + 1.01 crit - 12 dmg. Nice trade off if you ask me :)

Seems like a great staff although the staff off Illidan might be better because of the better haste rating. This staff can come close with sockets, but won't beat it, for sure.

On a side note, this item has some rather underwhelming graphics considering the ilvl and the boss that drops it.

With 3 Runed Crimson Spinel's this staff gives 302 bonus spell damage, which is +1 against the combo.

As a mage this is the best thing out there. This staff with the 4 pieces of tier I'm going for (bracers, belt, boots, head), the Mana Attuned Band and the Loop of Forged Power puts me with 143 hit rating, and barely 21 to go for the cap, which will allow me to gem all my gear with precious haste and dmg.

considering the fact that most sunwell items have haste in place of spell hit i would honestly use this other than KJ's dagger for the spell hit if your hit capped tho you might aswell trade some spare spell hit for haste

as a boomkin i would go for 3x10spellcrit gems coz the only thing i need is nature's grace and the only thing nature's grace needs is critical :)

As an edit to my previous commment in fact.. "At level 70, 22.1 spell critical strike rating increase the chance to critically hit with a spell by 1%." Meaning your looking at almost 3% Crit chance with those gems +this staff....
I'm going Sunwell Plateau :D

Lol this is so good it wont be outdated by greens in WotlK right away. blizzard already said that the leap wont be as big as from Pre TBC to TBC... but i recon it will be traded for a blue level 67ish :P

your best bet would be to socket with all +12 Spell damage gems.

at least as a mage, Spelldamage > Crit.
