The item does not need to be equipped at all for you to use it. The buff last for five minutes with a thirty minute cooldown on the item. Dealing or receiving damage does not break the effect.

Confirmed, it breaks when in ghostwolf as well.

While the Orb of Deception has preset gear it disguises you in, this item lets you keep the look of all your current gear.

Edit 8 years later: the Orb of Deception allows you to keep the look of your gear now too.

The true advantage of this item is that it keeps your gear look, tbh. the human disguise in OHB is the only other disguise that does that, afaik.

The 5 minute duration is kind of a bummer though.

Oh, and every druid should be used to this breaking on shifting, since shifting breaks every single other disguise (including ones for quests) in the game. Not including the OHB one of course, since that would be stupid.

Using this orb then using an orb of deception, does it make you a Draenie or turn you into what your actual race equivalent actually is like normal?

As a female character, if you use this item then use https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=31946 while in Tempest keep and them remove the cowl buff you will change genders from the usual female BE for females and become a male BE. Very fun for a sexy dance party.

Not all of them. For example, the Ashtongue Cowl does not break on shapeshifting.

In reply to a couple posts that i coulden't decide which to reply only 2..

1: to what Tiamat114 said, this also works on the orb of deception effect, except its anything that changes your appearance including the Torment of the worgen in Karazhan

2: I personally think the orb of deception should do what this does but you know... for example Night elf to undead, show what you would look like as an undead.

3: A couple people agree with me on this, blood elves should not be allowed to roll because it does nothing to them, Druids... should pass because they get little to no use out of this except looking cool while not in form where say a shaman would get full use..

One last thing... still waiting for this to drop ^^.

When I use and it give me the debuff that turns me into a blood elf, the animation of the blood elf is the exact same animation as when I use this orb. (same hair style, hair color, ear rings, face and skin color)

This does not change ur apperance as a blood elf, I got it today just to test it out, but nothing changed, not even skin-color or hairstyle.

while "buff" "costume" only last 5 minutes, the cooldown is 30 min, 25 minute wait untill you can use it again is not that bad imo

I think it's nice they've added so much rare loot to him, instead of the same crap items all the time. One on my server got a 100% White Blood ELf Mount on my server, and he's a night elf. All races can use it.

i got this on my human lock from heroic Magisters terrace off second boss, it is not a trinket, it is not restricted to any boss or setting in magister's it is a fun object to use, sitting in IF as a BE on a war elekk alot of ppl run up to me like wtf, its alot of fun, and DOES NOT USE A TRINKET SLOT!

it looks like not only does it keep ur gear it also takes the closest hair that looks like urs too. so its more unique per person just turns u into a be race wise that's it =P really fun i love it. wish it lasted more than 5 minutes x.x

As a dwarf, I can ride my mechanostrider while using this. It doesn't even look funny. I guess the race restriction is just blizzard being mean, and not because there is a problem fitting bigger races on to the mechanostrider.

I noticed that they are not unique. If you acquire 2, will they both turn you into the same looking blood elf or are they going to be different looking? Someone says it turns your hair the closest one, but I don't think that's the case at all.

Does anyone have an idea of what the mechanics of this are?

Would you be able to use one after the other?

What seriously happens when you use this as a blood elf? Does it change you at all or are you S.O.L.? Or would it gender change BE's? Wanna know before I waste my time going through the normal and then Heroic to get it and find out it does nothing for me but say I have the buff.
