Silk Cloth can be farmed fairly easily when level 60 from the "Scarlet Monastery" . If you are grouped and do a 5 man run of SM you will have more than likely obtained a Stack or two of this by the end of the run. You will get even more by having a Level 60 friend run you through it.
This Cloth is great for Mid-Level bandages (First Aid) and (Tailoring) If you chose it as one of your professions.

The only benefit of farming cloth in instances is the amount of mobs and that you have it all to yourself. The droprate is about the same for elite instanced mobs as normal mobs (about 30% for silk)

So... Is there any good way to get silk when you're under level 60? The only thing I've heard is that SM is a good way to get silk... Well, my bloodelf is lvl 23.
So how am -I- supposed to get silk then xD
And I don't know any level 60-70 friends that can help me.

I just farmed two spawns with the mudsnout gnolls and only got 17 silk cloth total, but i was able to find a few horde kill while i was farming.

i havent found any chest yet.

The ghouls in Duskwood around Manor Mistmantle drop a great deal of silk if you're only around level 27-30, and they're all level 28 or 29..

Another good place for farming silk if you're only in your low to mid 30's is central Arathi Highlands where the Boulderfist Ogres and Witherbark Trolls are. Both have a good drop rate and I got a full stack in about 30 min.

Stromgarde is merely mediocre post 2.3 (since the humanoids are no longer elite) I got a single piece of silk every 3 or 4 kills. I'd say Scarlet Monastery is the best place to farm this now.

The Bloodsail pirates drop 1-3 Silk cloth not bad to grind either. I recommend you kill the Warlocks as they drop the most.

Really the BEST way to farm these is to go Arathi Highlands at 64.28, this is the spawn point of Forzuk and his little 3 adds.Just wait him spawn and then start killing him and the adds aswell the all respawn INSTANT when u kill em..(if you dont belive me go try it)and as of patch 2.3 he is non elite so he is easy to farm even from lvl 45 players, i farmed this 10 minutes(with my 60 level warrior) and i had like 6 green items , 5g from kills only 65 Silk Cloth and some junk trash , sold em and make up 3-4g

It might just be my imagination, but it seems the drop rate for several of these places has changed dramatically. I have tried out the Boulderfist Ogres in Arathi and the Crushridge Ogres in Hillsbrad and found that the drop rate seems much lower than the 29-30% listed. As a 70 looking for a quick silk fix, I'm gonna recommend SM as you never lose aggro and mobs still drop regularly.

Umm i dont really wanna let on my big secret.. but the galak centaur from thousand needles just north of freewind are superb! they drop wool and cloth (2 at a time) but are levels 25 to 28! easy to farm for low levels, not to mention the copious amounts or iron, mithril, silver and chests that spawn in the caves....

SM ~ still. I cleared all but the cemetery (and armory 3 times) and got 8 stacks of Bolts of Silk Cloth when it was said n done... plus DE'ing all the greens n blues for a nice kicker. Still a great place to roll aoe mage style.

The orcs in wetlands drop a decent amount of silk, and so do the fetid corpses in duskwood, just north of town near Stalvan.

ok, THE BEST place in the game for silk farming, is SM, seriously, me and a few guildies ran through to get me the rare boss items, and they gave me all the silk since what would a level 60 need it for, and i actually got 12 STACKS! but we went through all parts of SM, not just one part, the library, armory, and the cathedral. so if you need silk, GO TO SM!

a place i like to farm silk is the ogre mound in duskwood, west of where the path forks to stv. they dop 2-3 silk pretty much every time, and the lvls are something like 26-31.
they quite often drop green items, too. nothing special, but good for DE fodder.

I usually get tons of silk cloth from Kolkar centaur from Desolace. The level 31 centaurs drop a few pieces per centaur.(two per mob I think, and they add up quickly).Any of the centaur in Desolace drop silk, I believe.Been a while since I was over level 31 and out killing magram.

Anyways,I just kill a bunch of centaur, and I always get silk.:D

I found that the shadowhides drop silk cloth not sure how often but they are only lvl 24-26 so they are a great choice for low lvls. They can be found in Redridge mountains all the way on the east side

I've found going into the catacombs in Raven Hill is a wonderful place to farm silk.

My priest leveled very quickly on her tailoring and first aid by going in there a few times.

The ogre mound in duskwood dropped to much wool and the mobs were too far apart for my liking. SM... well ok, if you want to spend a lot of time killing elites, i prefer non elites that drop quickly.

my favorite spot to farm silk cloth: the northwest troll ruins in STV. The bloodscalp ruins. They're are close together and respawn pretty quick. They are just the right level to pretty much drop silk only. once in a while youll get some wool off the 34s... and same goes for mageweave (off the 37s). But that'll be only half a stack or a stack at most compared to the 15 stacks of silk you get when done. when the bloodscalp there do drop silk its usually 2-3 each. now sometimes there might be a dry spell or patch, but dont worry. i'd say on average it works out to 1 silk per kill when you finish at the end of the day. (not to mention the greens, and trash grey weapons you can vendor).

The ruin is not far from nessingwary so you can repair or vendor the stuff you collect (some of those grey weapons can sell for 40-50s each).

drawbacks to the area: hunter trolls like to net and attack you at range. annoying.

I've tried other areas, but mobs are too far apart and you spend more time running around from kill to kill.

Pattern is this: start at the top most tier (36-37s), clean it up. to the east is a lower area (34-35s), drop down and kill those. Make your way across the road that is inside the ruins and you'll have two smaller "rooms" with about 7 trolls each... clean house there. by the time you finish that circuit, the top tier should have respawned or be close to respawning (depending on how fast you clear).

Ive done this on a 60 warrior, 60 rogue, a 60 mage, and a 70 balance druid. Just find what works for you. good luck.

Guys, if you want silk falling from the skies, SM is for you. I was leveling my mage threw there and raked in roughly 1000 silk from SM. They rarely drop Mageweave cloth which is nice also. SM has tons of mobs and they usually drop 3-4 silk each. I reccomend either Library or Catherdral i havent run Armory too much. My mage has made about 350g at level 39 from being lucky with drops and farming the rite spots. I sell mine 1g perstack and they sell instantly. Running it as much as i do your bound to get a blue, many greens, and possibly an epic which sells nice. Enjoy!

The seriously best place to farm the silk cloth is horde only. when you enter Gnomer via teleporter, behind to pipes on your left are two lvl 24 gnomes. Every time you kill them, they drop 1-3 silk cloth. And, even better, they have a less then one second respwan rate. Basically, before you can loot the one you killed, another appears.

Best place for farming silk for me is crushridge hold or sumtin in alterac mountains, they drop silk almost everytime and very easy to kill, can gain about 20k-30k xp an hour also (when i was lvl 38) and the monsters are only lvl 34-36.

As a lvl 66 hunter, i grabed a few low lvl guildies and ran SM.They were my human vacuum cleaners. they looted everything behind me, plus getting the blue items they all wanted. i think 3 of them lvl'd, and in the end they gave me all the silk. i came out of there with 9 stacks in a hour. So if your high enough to solo SM, grab a few low lvl guildies, lol the human vacuum cleaner method is a shear win, with the guild and your silk needs:)

Just farmed the centaurs in 1k needles as 51 shammy.

My result, very easy to kill which makes things go faster and after about 15-20 I have:
Silk Cloth x32
Wool Cloth x14
and 2 or 3 greens including a lockbox

As affliction warlock i should say that SM is a nice spot, let void tank and use some Seed of Corruption and you can go through pretty fast.

SM does indeed have one of the nicest silk drop rates, but elite mobs don't make for good farming and if you're alliance it's fairly out of the way. If you do intend to farm there, firstly it's only really time efficient if you're horde and secondly, the best thing to do is to clear around the instance itself rather than inside - the mobs are the same level, have the same drop tables, but are non elites.

I would personally suggest that if you are farming for first aid, that you do this instead in Hillsbrad and Alterac. Both Durnholde and Strahnbrad have mobs that drop reasonable amounts of silk, and you're only a short ride away from the Hinterlands, where since 2.3 patch the best mageweave farming spot is: Jintha'alor.

You're also right next to Arathi, which is where alliance have to buy their Heavy Silk, Mageweave and 225 first aid books. Time saving for the win!

Those npcs drop silk cloth like it's no tomorrow. Problem is the mobs are level 30-32.

I would have to say that would be one of the best places, because after you kill Herod and all those little "trainee" mobs come running in, they're easily killed with 1-2 AoE spells, and they almost all drop 1-3 silk.

The dragonmaw mobs in the wetlands also have the same silk cloth drop rates as other humanoids/undeads of the same levels (namely centaurs and humans)

As of TBC classic 2.5.1, the silk cloth drop rate has been reduced drastically. I tried ogres in Alterac, zero silk after 10 minutes killing. Same for the humans north of the ogres, zero silk. Starting to test other areas, will post more updates if I find any good spots. If anyone finds some as of 2021, please post here.

Update: Found that the medicine men and jungle fighters at Kurzen's Compound in northern STV still have a decent drop rate. Same for the trolls around northwest STV.

For anyone working up through Tailoring -- or just wanting to farm -- SM, especially the Cathedral and Graveyard, still reigns supreme. For kills-to-cloth, Cathedral is best. In, kill, get about 4-5 stacks of silk and ~1-2 stacks of mageweave, out, reset, repeat. In contrast, the Graveyard has regular repops of Unfettered Spirits, Haunting Phantasms, and Anguised Dead which all drop silk cloth as well so you can get more without having to reset. The Library and Armory aren't bad, but unless you've hit your reset cap, stick with the Cathedral and Graveyard, mostly Cathedral. Admittedly, you'll have to do the Library at least once at first for the key to the Cathedral/Armory.

If you're also leveling Enchanting, when you hit 200+ and need to train with Annora, the multitude of humanoid (Trog and Dwarf) mobs in Uldaman drop a decent amount of silk (3-ish stacks), but more mageweave per kill than SM, so do spend the time to clear those guys. Uldaman can also be a nice change of pace if you're sick of running SM.

Other locations I have tried:
Arathi Highlands ogres: agonizingly slow drops. don't bother.
Northern Stranglethorn: both the trolls on the northwest side and the humans on the northeast drop ok amounts.

TL;DR; If you're 50+ go slaughter the zealots in SM. Serves them right for joining an angry cult holed up in Horde territory.

I'm farming on a level 61 mage, and Scarlet Monastery just is not practical, takes too long. The best place I've found is Razorfen Downs, they drop 0-4 Silk and some wool, with the occasional mageweave. They might not all drop cloth, but there are a lot of them and they respawn quickly.

I've found Fallow Sanctuary in Swamp of Sorrows to be a decent spot. Drops from the 'Lost One' mobs.

Fast respawns and a great place to farm it with no people around is the north part of Alterac mountains (Wotlk classic / pre-cataclysm). There's a group of humans in groups of 10 or so with a tent camped, and there are 4 groups of them spread out across the entire northern part of Alterac Mountains (the road that leads to the Lordamere Lake to the west and Strahnbrad to the east). That road is full of human thieves that respawn quickly and drop a lot of silk.
