As big a cooldown as this has, I have found it very useful for my rogue that's on a PvP server. Since it doesn't slow movement speed, I've coupled this with Sprint (using Sprint first, then the cloaking device) and saved myself from a ganking by a much-higher-level player many a time!

This item CAN be used in combat, however the mob or person your fighting will still see you because he targeted you before BUT you can do this: If you're a hunter even if your doing PvE or PvP if u use Feign death and THEN this the enemy won't see you for 10 secs. Next, if you're a rogue (like me) you can vanish (and that doesnt always work since patch 2.1 on guards) and after vanishing you have a breif moment of out of combat. And if you use it within that period of time (about 1 second) you can get away with it. Also some other things about this trinket: You can cast ANY spell and unlike night elf's shadow meld, you dont leave invisibility untill AFTER the cast is over. But dont expect to pyroblast ur enemy, you can't see anything once you use it, unless your enemy sees through invisibility. I made a macro This and hearth. horde ganks me. Rez and use it, they think I used vanish and jump around some. And lastly, you can use this to run past mobs as long as they didnt attack you before you used this.

Please note that any pets you have will not become invisible along with you upon using this trinket. If you are trying to avoid detection by using this trinket, be sure to dismiss your pet first.

I have 225 engineering - but cannot specialize yet because I am only lvl 29.

Used this trinket at early levels (because I had no others) if you can get far enough away from a target, and have no DoTs on you. About 1 second after you use it you will loose agro.

I have used this at level 58 to walk past an Elite 58 who was blocking the entrance to a house (Quest is "When I hear Smokey I get violent") in EPL.

Worked a treat. Doesn't Vanish you tho - so if you are targetted - they can still hit you even though you cloak.

I made one a while ago on my hunter, it's fun to use in duels... The guy thought I jumped off a cliff and ran around looking for me... I was hiding behind a steam tank :D

Aside from duels, I havn't really used it except for avoiding some hordie guards...

I used this today to evade a 60 pally that was trying to gank me (44 hunter). He was practically right on top of me when I feigned death and activated it, and I watched him spin around trying to find me as I ran away. So it appears that this grants total invisibility (as he likely would have seen which direction I went if it was just regular stealth).

I've also used this to sneak past annoying elites and town guards.

Pretty situational (like all engineering items), but it did save me a long corpse run in the Hinterlands today. Definitely falls under the "where does he get all those wonderful toys?" category.

Also, unlike stealth/shadowmeld, which break as soon as you start casting a spell, invisibility breaks AFTER the spell is finished casting, which makes it great for healing classes who can use a nice big healing spell uninterrupted.

I'm going to test to see if it works with hearthing later... that might be fun to try

This device does not backfire.

It puts you in invisibility for 10 seconds, which is broken by taking most actions.

You can be seen while using this the same way as a rogue or druid in stealth.

+stealth level gear and talents do not affect this.

You can use in combat, but it will not de-agro mobs. It can however be used to sneak past mobs.

Very useful for warlocks who can (in PvP) DoT a target fully and use it, making him run around looking for you while he suffers through 10 seconds of pain. I killed a 60 epix war at 53 using this (was a double death, but earlier in battle my net-o-matic backfired so might have been a total win anyway)

I tried it out and here's an awesome new graphical effect for it. I didn't see it listed in the patch notes but it'd definitely new!

The effect is like that movie predator. You may or may not need your graphic settings on high to view it.

true, but now you can't see the enemy. Anyways, you can see the friendly target when using the trinket.

Worked like a charm today for my twink in WSG. 1 priest was draining me and another shooting me, used trinket and they didn't even get a glimt of me :D

the most important feature of this device is that the invisibility breaks after a cast...

for example the shadowmeld was nerfed to break in the begining of a cast, which prevents nuking from invisibility...

because of this difference -this device is good for healers - it gives you 1 safe heal and probably second until the enemy finds where you are.

because of the big CD i use it only on duels or outdoor, it is fun when a rogue gets you under 20% and then you suddenly stealth and appear in full hp :) (i play shammy)

This item has now been officially Nerfed.

It might be mildly useful, but don't count on it.

Instead of simply turning invisible, you now have the joy of "Frodo wearing the Ring"-Vision (its dark and blurry).
I haven't fully tested it (only once and hour... ) but have verified:

- it deselects your target
- you can't re-select; you can't even *see* mobs
- it seems to last less time than it used to

Have not tested PvP.

Blizzard have recently changed this item, Now it is like the mages invisibility, it works on everything, mobs guards, players. BUT you cant see anyone else while your in the "ghost world" as you get into when you use this item.

i am a BM spec hunter and i love this trinket during pvp. i just send my pet at them. if things get nasty i just use my trinket. then i got invisible but my pet is still attacking them. what is also great is that i can see where my pet is so i know where my enemy is. hahaha also there is alot where you can go in 10secs so i can run away and start firing again

I have tested this thing out several times

1: This have 1 hour cooldown

2: This is just like the ability Vanish, it means that you will leave combat when you are using this

3: This are not elible in arena since there is 15 minutes or longer cooldown

4: A good tip since you leave combat while use this trinket is to have Goblin Jumper Cable (XL), that may save the team in a instace, lol, a warlock "vanish" and res... lol

It works like any other "Invisibility" mechanic. You CAN'T see *most* enemies. The only exception to this is that you CAN see things that can see through invisibility, I.E. anyone buffed by a warlock, or any other invisible people.

The trinket IS instant cast, unlike a mage's invisibility. It CANNOT be used in Arena, but it CAN be used in any battleground. Ver' fun for blowing right through a couple flag defenders or for sneaking up on someone you know is there. You won't see them, but if they didn't see you vanish it's likely that they won't move from where they were.

You CAN still be hit by AoE effects I think, taking you out of invisibility (can someone confirm?).

Usable in combat, but uncertain if it wipes aggro in PvE. Might be usable as a resser, in some situations, but I imagine that for it to work the enemy would have to have no other targets, and thus reset.

Mostly just useful for the "WTF factor" on the enemy, say seeing a warrior or paladin just plain disappear. Could be used to avoid a long cast like Pyroblast too... or when you're invisible, you can see an invisible mage. And they can see you.

Sent your peasents at them while you go stealth and let them pound away at them while your stealthing around watching them(you can see them) and let the peasents pound away about 2k damage on them then unstealth and finish them.
btw if any of you dont know im talking about PvP

This tool is awesome for pvp servers. I have escaped ? so many times. A great tool for a rogue.

Not that useful while in battle (sometimes) but for quick use before being attacked it really does the job.

you can not be seem when you use this no matter what lvl you or the player is. problem is that it doesnt always work on monsters and its canceled if your hit :(. should last longer

I've been hearing two dif things..It takes you out of combat and it doesnt..I've used it in the past but it was a while ago..And I was still in combat..So i pretty much havent used it..But i've read that it does take you out..Which is it?

dunno wtf you are all talking about power leveled eng to 200 just for this item tested it 3 times it DOES NOT take you out of combat but it can be used in combat

I think some of you are confused. This effects NPC and player enemies differently. This doesn't wipe aggro, but it does make you invisible. Against a mob, the aggro is enough for the enemy to see you, but a player doesn't use aggro to target, so he/she will be clueless.

Edit: After typing this it made me wonder if pets would continue to attack you after using this.

This trinket would be a super trinket for feral druids at arena.

Think about this, start attack use maim after your combo use the trinket and start again like a rogue does.

Feral would be way better at arena's at this point because of 2 openings.

So i noticed that i could get it because of my 300 enginering, i directly got it and made it.

After 20 gold spend on it and some time i decided to test it out against a enchantment shammy. I'm feral ofcourse.

Pounche, mangle, ff, shred, maim for 5 secs. he was like half way hp. Trinket.

Side effect of the trinket its like mage invisibility, you are invisible but cant see anything. He was maimed so i know where to find him but used shadowmeld to see his location and directly cat + stealth after it. to start with another opening attack.

Problem is, you cant start pounche or whatever while you are using the cloak device because you cant see a target. i can prowl directly after that 10 seconds to start again.

But whats the point? shammy will heal himself and warrior will bandage or mage will drink up.

I could see this trinket as somekind of escape route or untarget skill like hunters got FD.

Think like this you are leveling or grinding half hp and some warrior rushes on you but doesn't put any bleed effect or whatever on you. go bear bash trinket bb.

Anyway i started to head to arena with it and wondered if it would work. For all the poeple that want to do this to ( dont make it ) worthless you cant even press it.

Conclusion ( fun item ) you can maybe skip a mob or elite for bypassing it or you can run out of combats with it.

Its fun if you are a druid and the enemy is like ftw, where did he go? but thats it. :P ( maybe drink up etc )

I dueled a level 60 while waiting for the zeppelin at Orgrimar and disapeared and he said he couldn't see me. Then I asked a couple of 60's in TB to watch me to see if they could see me when i turned it on, same thing, i was gone! and only 3 meters in front of them. I'm a lvl 28 by the way. So this thing is awesome, especially for lower levels with quickness potions against gankers

Sadly this item is one of the most useless Engineering items I have made. I hope they change it because as is, it is worthless.

This is why it is useless:

1) The stealth cannot be activated while in combat.
2) The durration of Invisibility is way too low compaired to the cooldown. 10 second duration with a 1 hour cooldown makes it useless since it doesn't break combat like the rogue vanish skill does.

The only thing this item has going for it is that movement speed is not reduced while invisible.

I'm a level 34 Gnome Rogue doing Gnomish Engineering, skill at 240. As I see it the only way this item would be worth the parts is if it either #1 broke combat, or #2 had it's cooldown reduced to say 20 min or so. Without either of those things it is a waste of a fused wiring.

I was on my 29 Mage and I had just finished a quest near Sun Rock Retreat (Horde). Durring the quest I could see that someone was invading SRR because of Local Defense and the random people saying a rogue was shanking them. So I need to go to turn in the quest and get the out of town before I got ganked too. So I hearthed to SRR and I got to the quest giver and turned it in. Right then I heard a dismount noise and saw the ? rogue sprinting towards me from behind. Within a split second I was running and RIGHT before he got to my back, I popped on my Cloaking Device. Literally, a half a second more and I would have been troll meat, but as soon as I popped it on, he ran directly over me and was so suprised that he stopped and ran in circles 3 times from where I dissapeared. I was able to get to the windrider and fly safley to Crossroads.

So evidently, this trinket works for lower levels against higher levels (or the rouge could have been a dumb ass) :P

EDIT: Also, to answer the question below: Yes, attacking during invisibilty will break it and using this mid-battle (which IS possible FYI) will NOT break any aggro on you. This is useful for skipping mobs or a last resort for PvP.

this item isnt extremely usefull but a nice travel device to have in that trinket bag. i been using it when i want to get past a mob, or have to get past several mobs, this can give you a headstart before you start getting hit, the 10seconds is enough to pass 1mob, or several if they are close. i use this to get out of caves, mines, or skip as many mobs as i can as headstart. might be better off just using the jet boots, but if they backfire they could get you killed just the same.

there is no backfire on this, it will always do the 10seconds, that you can count on. it cannot be used in combat, and cannot be stacked with jetboots or other trinkets to run faster. it can probabaly stack with cat form, sprint, pack, or any spell to run faster, but not trinkets. but you CANNOT use this in battle to drop aggro, and you CANNOT stack this with jet boots or stopwatch to run fast when invis, they will put 5min reuse on each other. you might also get use of this to sneak up on players in pvp, the 10secs is plenty of time to appear right on them, or plain disappear and escape, once combat tag drops. if player doesnt have see invis spell/potion/perception, you have 10secs to run in any direction to get away/hide.

i also, for some reason, make good money selling the schematic for this. and you can too! if you look, you can buy it off vendor in mountains for like 20s i think. i keep picking it up, and selling it in AH for 1g+. its always there, if they bothered to look it up they could save the money, but, hehe, more profit for us!~_~

this thing has saved me LOTS of times! i always wear it in case some ganker tries to kill me. when they do i pop it, send my pet at them(im a 54 lock) and start preparing a soulfire spell, which has a 6 second cast. so this baby right here let me stay out of trouble until i send it, giving me a huge headstart on the ganker!

i even killed a lvl 60 hunter earlier today! thats 6 lvl higher!

even if you dont want to fight back, 10 seconds is most of the times enough to get you to safety behind a tree or something similar so you can summon mount and get away. :3

See, I'm a warrior, and I love this trinket. Only thing is, is that I want to be able to use it in PVP. The problem is that I don't really have any abilities to use it with besides Shoot T_T. So I was thinking, and it hit me....can Gnomish Death Ray be used while invisible? I know it would most likely take me out of invis because of the damage, but is it possible?

This item is actually very useful if you hate being beaten down by level 60's who are bored, simply because the invisibility works on all levels no matter what level you are. I've heard rumors about it and tested it with a level 60 friend while my engineer is only level 25 and he couldn't see me both times I used it. So if you have a skull from the other faction chasing you just pop this baby and hide in the trees.

What it you had 2 cloaking devices? I've got this Healing Lantern (Everglow Lantern), that would be so totally helpful if I could have another one...

Might be useful for those of us without invis.

In Classic, if you use this in combat it'll drop aggro from mobs. It works almost identically to Vanish.

This trinket was never worth using. 10s duration. 1h CD. Guzzles a trinket slot to use. Also requires engineer. If you want to go invisible, just use an invisibility potion instead. Those last 15s or 18s, no trinket slot used, no engineer requirement, and only have a 10m CD. This is one of many cases where alchemy has beaten engineer. It does use your potion CD but that's a much better trade than having to carry this junk.
