This is a great money maker. I suppose the market is mostly hard-core raiders, lazy people, or just those that can't get ahold of the recipe (on Alliance side, since the recipe is a pretty rare drop from the Barrens).

At the moment, stacks are going for around 28g. If you end up with an uneven stack, split it into 1's and 5's, and increase the markup slightly. Often people will buy just a few, get addicted, and buy full stacks.

Heh heh, so true. I got the recipe on my 11 rogue while killing some razormanes for the quest, I was in a party with someone else and asked if I could have it and got it.sent it to my level 13 hunter who was just starting on cooking. Lol, I made about 100-150 roasted boar meats getting skills up because I had a bunch of them sitting around for whenever I wanted to get skill up. Anyway, I got the recipe learned and now all I have to do is get fishing skill up to however high you have to have it to fish at the wailing caverns and start making money. Was kind of nice to get it because i'll be able to make money for mounts for all my characters. I would recomend farming the lower level razormanes (10-13 or whatever) because there is a fair amount of them in a spot and they are pretty fast respawns. Gl all who are farming.

Pricing depends on the server you play, they only go for about 40-50 s each on mine, but nonetheless if you are lucky enough for this to drop, i suggest you keep it, being able to make them is always great and fishing out the deviates isn't too bad, fish for an hour and you can probably get 2-3 stacks of them if you find a school or two.

They also make great gifts, especially for people who have never had them b4.

The most common price for one of them seems to be around 50s. It keeps me surprised to see how many players don't know these, and the effect it causes (especially on Alliance side).

For a low level character they are a considerable income source, since a stack of those can be easily farmed within about 15 minutes just by circling the middle oasis in the Barrens and fishing the pools (the middle oasis is the largest one, with two separate bodies of water, so generally you can keep fishing the respawns there without having to leave for one of the other two lakes).

Even at higher levels, when there might be more fun ways to get money fast, fishing those is still the best way to spend your time if you want to skill up Fishing (the rate of skill increase does not depend on the level of the zone you're fishing, so these fairly low level fishes give the same amount of skill ups as, for example, Outland fishes).

I love these items, I tend to have at least 10 of them on me at a time. If you have to do any long grinds, it is nice to use them and get some different attack and cast animations to mix it up a bit and get rid of some of the mind numbingness of long grinds. That is assuming you're not a human, or a druid, since shapeshifting removes the buff.

Also, unless it has been changed recently, you can use Noggenfogger to get small, and then use a Savory Deviate Delight to be a small ninja/pirate.

Additionally, using Dartol's Rod of Transformation gets rid of the buff, and I'm fairly sure using an Orb of Deception or getting the skeleton buff from Noggenfogger removes it as well.

Patches and Patches ago, The Savory Deviate Delight didn't only turn you into a ninja or pirate... It also had some other effects.

* (60 min) Yaaarrrr (turns you into a pirate)
* (60 min) Flip Out (turns you into a ninja)
* (10 sec) Oops (turns you into a pile of goo)
* (2 min) Rapid Cast
* (10 min) Cowardice (causes 5sec "Run Away" fear)

I was playing my draenie mage (female) in gruul's lair, was using noggen fogger pots and deviate fish for a laugh. I had a skeleton form on at the time and used a fish and was changed into a MALE pirate. These fish are suppose to be based off the gender of your character, but apparently there is a way to get around it. Sadly I have not been able to replicate it again, I guess I just need to find the right combination of nogg and fish. If anyone happens to know how to get it to work every time please say something!

Funny story;

Back when BWL first opened, the door after Vaelastrasz would not open after he was killed (lol@blizzard test raiding team), so we sent out a dozen fishers to gather up a few hundred deviates. An hour later, we handed them out to people to eat in mass until they got the fear effect, and force themselves through the doorway. We got half the guild through, then a GM started teleporting us back through the gate one by one, and scolded us.

The best part was the GM's reply when we asked if we could get our fish back:

On Noggenfogger Elixir it says the use is: Drink Me. and for Savory Deviate Delight its: Eat Me.

I think this is refering to Alice in Wonderland were the cookie has Eat Me on it and it makes her bigger and the milk has Drink Me on it and turns her back to normal.

If you don't want to walk all of the way to the instance portal, you can also fish them out of the water with the 2 deviate lurkers. Most people sell them for 1g each, but they go faster at 80s. I try to sell in stacks of 5

Any shapeshifting will remove the effects, unfortunately :(

On the other side, if you can get the chance to buy the recipe for around 50 gold, you should really do this if you're a lower level. It is a huge chunk of money at that level but it WILL pay off. I earned the 45 gold I payed back in 1 day, with a 30 gold profit on top of it. Fishing the deviate fish isn't too bad either if you're willing to do next to nothing for a while. Bring a friend to have a chat to pass the time.

I had alot of fun with this. Just got my cooking up before the open beta ended and made a bunch. Effects I experienced were Yaarr as posted above. Also Flip Out, another disguise that looked sorta like a human ninja, with an hour timer. Also sometimes it would turn me into a blob for 10 seconds. Another benificial buff was Fast Casting, I think it was called, a 2 minute buff that halved casting time. Got Feign Death a few times, though mostly I resisted it... and one more negative result from using the Food was a fear effect that lasted 10 minutes.

Just a note, I got fake death using this and I stayed "dead" for the entire duration without moving. After the "fake" death effect expired, I actually died and got the "Release Spirit" prompt and had to do a corpse run. Kind of embarassing to have to do a CR to Ogrimmar. Anyhow, I put in a ticket because I thought it was a bug and the GM told me the effect is intentional. I doubt anyone except me will be patient or stupid enough to sit through the whole five minute effect, but just in case.

I'd been halfheartedly farming for this for a few days; this morning, I decided to switch onto my alt and do some fishing. I killed a couple of Snapjaws for the heck of it, and on the second or third turtle, out of nowhere- there it was! :D
i've killed Spearhide twice and a half-dozen Wooly Kodos (and an elite kodo named Brontus or something of the sort, twice,) but no luck with them. Guess drop rates aren't everything.

As of 1.6 patch, all effects of eating this except for ninja/pirate shifts seem to have been removed. In a stack of 20, none of them failed to grant a shapeshifting effect. This means you no longer have to give several of them to your friend(s) each to ensure that they are transformed.

I handed my other stack out for free in Orgrimmar. There were many jokes, and much drinking of Bourbon occured.

Random facts-
1. The affect no longer vanishes when you log out, switch continents, or go through an instance.
2. It does vanish when you die.
3. You can't mount or use flight paths.
4. If you must use a mount, you can dispell the effect by right-clicking the buff icon by your map. This goes for nearly all buffs, but I mention it because some people don't know. You will not be able to change back without consuming another Deviate Delight.
5. Skeleton form (Noggenfogger) will overwrite the effect. Use with caution if you hope to shrink yourself.

hmm they made this just a fun item now. lol. and in WoW alot of ppl pay for fun items. "Orb of Deception" also seems to be "just" a fun item.
So now Savory Deviate Delight is just a costume fun.
me and my friend always enjoy it. Its not useless. its for fun, a game is for fun, not everything has to have a useful need for you be sucessful like getting equip and stuff =P

My friends and I ate a bunch and yes you can change genders. My friend changed from a male tauren shaman to a female ninja. He said really funny stuff and sounded like a man who had recently had a sex change. "Estrogen? What is that? Can you eat it?" All kinds of really funny stuff. I ate tons of them but never changed into a guy. Anyone else?

When I ate the raw fish alone I got the buff 'Party fever' or something which obviously puts you into the party fever. I was randomly clapping, laughing, doing the chicken dance and all sorts :D

I saw how a guild mate of mine was making a nice profit from these, so i advertised in /2 that i wanted to buy a recipe and got one for 5 gold from someone who had been playing 3 weeks-lucky me. I then proceeded to the barrens where i rotated anticlockwise through the 3 oasis's fishing ONLY in the schools of deviate fish (100% drop rate) and farmed 200 fish in about 1hour 30 mins.
I then returned to orgrimmar, cooked the lot, put 1/2 on AH and advertised to sell the rest in /2 whenever i was in the city.
In my first day of selling this way i made about 120 gold, selling for anywere between 1g to 50s a fish, so i am deffinately gonna use this as one of my main sources for income for a while.
I highly reccomend using this method to make gold for mount training (normal and epic), to earn money to buy mats to train your profs, and to buy any gear upgrades u need.

As of patch 2.1.1 the only effects you may get is a ninja or a pirate...but on medihv the recipe sells for 50g or higher. I found that people put just one or two stacks in hut they separate it, not a bad idea, i tried and got over 20g but your more likely to sell if you have em in a stack and for like 12-15g otherwise they'll say its expencive... but you CAN mount, fly, i dont know bout shadowform tho, sorry preiests...But dont use anything that will transform you like druids or the rod that turns you into a furbolg, it cancels it out.

deviate delight and fish are DIFFERENT! and they have different effects, and most of em have dissapeared since the past patches. and the only things u get from savory deviate delight is ninja or pirate.

started farming deviate fish inside of WC in the room w/ naralex. got 21 fish in half an hour.. not sure how great that is. also caught a crap load of frogs, about 40 and some small fish and catfish...but yeah 21g in half an hour doesn't seem that bad to me.

MY MONEY MAKING TIP

first off the deviates sell cooked or uncooked. i take 3 players and put one at each oasis in the barrens. recommend they are also miners. so you can also get silver, tin, copper, and stone. what i do is....fish the deviate nodes, mine and log over to next player, repeat, repeat. this way you are able to constantly hit nodes (circles in the water). you will also get stranglekelp and chests from fishing. the chests contain at times, bolts of linen/wool and various leather. collect it all and sell on AH. they run back to crossroads (forgotten/lush oasis) and ratchet (stagnant oasis) to mail to a bank/auction player when bags are full. if you have a cook for these fish...mail all the fish to be cooked..of course

with a player at each pool and switching when the nodes are gone to next player/oasis, i can out fish any 70 running from oasis to oasis. also, fish the nodes for best results and cast/recast to land hook in them. you can catch deviates without the nodes but it's then like 33% or less.

have a lo-lvl 1-5 bank/auction house player that you mail everything too. do not waste time having multiple players auctioning stuff.

when i'm not BGing/PVP i use mt 19, 29, 39, twinks to fish in the barrens. smelting the Ore? is up to AH prices. sometimes Ore brings in more than Bars...sometimes vice-versa.

deviate fish can be like the stock market on WOW. (so can other items) on my server deviates are always in demand, when you get alot of people fishing for them the price can drop to 10G for 20. at this point i buy them and sit on them. i have also bought uncooked deviates, cooked them and resold them for profit. right now they are 30-50G cooked for 20...friend of mine says alliance side they are 3G for one. uncooked 25G for 20

up till 3 months ago i had no player above 39, three 29's, one 19 and they were all twink enchanted and still had over 11000G. many didn't believe me when i tell them i fish, mine and herb for money. also make accusations that without a 70, i had to be buying gold. had to tell them there were twinks pre-BC..lol
my highest players are now 59's (two) are twinks and i'm heading towards 20000G

as soon as a player can fish in the barrens i would get them there and get their fishing to 150, read book, 225, do quest then 300, do quest 375. this way you make money and get your fishing up for those daily quests in outland.

Can someone confirm a rumour for me?

I heard that during the hotfix for Blackwing Lair, they nerfed Deviate Delights so they would only give Pirate/Ninja form, and not have any of the other effects (quick cast, fear, feign death etc...), can someone confirm this?

These fish have become all the rage lately. They sell very well at usually 50s to 60s each. I tend to sell them in stacks of 5 or more. The polymorph effects Flip Out and Yarrr last for 60 minutes. Everything is normall except your animations and you can not mount when polymorphed. Unless you find the recipe yourself, expect to pay 60g to 100g on the Perenolde server.

This is a fun recipe.

It's not for combat, but it's fun at parties!

When you eat it, it has random effects. Here is a list of everything it has done so far for me. (I've eaten about 40 of em so far)

-Illusion of a human pirate (you really look like a pirate for 1 hour!)
-Illusion of a human ninja for 1 hour
-Illusion of a green ooze for only about 10 seconds
-Fake Death (just like a hunter) lasts for about 2 minutes or until you move
-Instant 20-40 Rage (for anyone who has rage)
-Fast Casting (for 60 seconds, all spells you cast only take half the time to cast)
-Fear (you get feared and run around for 5 seconds and then have the fear icon where your buffs are for 10 minutes, but I haven't noticed it do anything after you stop running around)
-Nothing (every once and a while, it doesn't do anything when you eat it.) This could be the instant heal that people have talked about. But I'm always full health when I eat these.

It only takes one deviate fish and one mild spice to cook per piece of deviate delight.

The deviate fish can be fished up in wailing caverns. You can even fish them in the instance. Thats the smart way to do it so no alliance will gank you while you are fishing. Because they like to fish in there too for the deviate fish.

i was in the barrens, near the wailing caverns, going to fish up some deviates for my m8 to cook for me. Ive never killed a Kodo before (being alliance) so thought, ok ill kill it for a laugh, the recipe dropped from it ;P

when its cooked it only had two affects on me it eighter changed me into a pirate or a ninja i bought it for 12g and sell each for 50s i got 43g buy sellin this stuff for a weak.great way to make quik cash.you can find it in most monsters in the barrens the best are burning blade bruisers and the razormane,or bristle back whichever i forget the one close to xroads.ppl say they got it from the razormane thornweaver the most.eighter way the best chance of finding this thing is 0.03% so i just recommend goin and buyin it, cause it almost ruined the game tryin to find it i eventually gave up after 7 hours of farmin and bought it. oh yeah each one lasts for 1 hour

I have had a Fake Death for 5 minutes (if you don't move by the end of it you die for real), Fear, 50% Faster Casting for 2 minutes, Instant Heal, Slime Form for 5 seconds, Pirate form for 1 hour. Also heard that there is Ninja for, but haven't seen it yet.

Random effects each time you eat it. Some are curses (Cowardice, feared me for 10 minutes) some are beneficial (fast casting, 50% casting time for spells for 2 minutes) and some are random disguises. It's rather amusing :)

Okay, I don't expect anyone to believe this, but, TRUE STORY!

About an hour ago I saw the Recipe on the AH. There is one that has been up for 3 days for 50g. At first glance, I thought this was the same one. I scrolled down some more, then back up, and noticed that it wasn't 50s. At this point I did a double-take to make sure my eyes weren't being mean to me. 2s! I nearly let out a yelp when I saw this listed for 2s. I, of course, bought it out, and am now trying to resell it, so if anyone on Lothar is interested, whisper me on the character 'Sinassassin' or send me a letter, and I'll get back with you.

So, I was on my 17 Tauren Druid when i killed a Kolkar Wrangler and he dropped the recipe. So I set it up with my friends, and put it on neutral AH for 1s buyout to get it to my main so he could learn it. I switched to my main and my friend said "Nope, not seeing it." and I had it up on the screen, so I asked where she was. Turns out, she thought IF was a neutral AH. So I tried to buyout. "You cannot buyout your own auction.". So I lost my Deviate recipe. Then I met a NE hunter who bought out for me and gave to me for 10s. Apparently she didn't know the value. ^^ So I learned it and am now trying to get the dang fish.

I fished in the Lushwater Oasis for exactly 30 min to provide you with the information about the fishrate.

I found that if you fish concentrated (so no talking to friends, or taking screenshots, and no MSN), you can fish 1 every single minute. Of course, it's difficult to stay focused for 16 hours straight.

These were my results:
I started fishing at 10:00, I had 9 fishes
I ended at 10:30, I had 36 fishes

You must note that I was talking, and I dced twice... but anyways, I got 27 fishes... and 8 Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish, 55 Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper, 7 Raw Brilliant Smallfish, a 22-Pound Catfish (Held in Off-Hand, this looks cool, yay!), and a Lesser Healing Potion... wonder what the potion was doing there...

anyways, I'm trying to get my dad to this place and fish some too, probably 'round 100g/hour then, 1g/fish... need to get my fishing skill up, though.

If you do, however, manage to stay focused for 18 hours straight and you're lucky in prices (1g20s a piece), you might about 1300g! I think I'll keep this going for a while... :) Good luck on this you all!

Why do they sell for so much if the effects are random. I will feel pretty jipped if i turned into a slime for 10 seconds.

Is it possible to fight as a pirate, Ninja, or even as Ooze? Or does it turn you into what you were before as soon as you start the fight?

And do you make your normal Race sounds? As a pirate (your race is Orc), for example, can you fall off a cliff and it'll do the Orc sound, or will it do the Human?
