One of the most underrated consumables in WoW. The disease effect stacks with all other damage-increasing debuffs, so melee can do quite a bit more damage to a raid boss with Gift of Arthas on the tank.

This potion is glorious for levelling up a protection paladin.

Ideally you'll be fighting 6-12 mobs.. sometimes more :)... and this potion's effects become massive when you start throwing consecrations and the like. As well, it is dirt dirt dirt cheap.

This potion has a chance to proc specialization. I gave materials for 5 potions but the crafter gave me 7 potions. He said it procced his specialization. Maybe it is just bugged so it procs potion specialization instead? Forgot to ask which specialization he had :(

For protection paladin "AoE" farming this potion probably is good until you can use Earthen Elixir (lvl 50) because the disease effect will only increase physical damage by 8. You produce mostly holy damage which is magical damage. Weapon physical damage is pretty low anyway because you want fast weapon like Flurry Axe for Light/Wisdom seal and judgement procs. However, this adds +8 dmg when enemy is hitted by shield spike so it has some use until lvl 50.

I tried it with my lvl 63 Paladin against 10 mobs and it barely had any effect to killing time.

The Initial Damage from Lacerate generates nearly the entire threat. 8 Points more Initial Damage will result in about 1/4 to 1/3 more threat.

It currently says "Damage taken", no "Physical damage taken". Can it be that blizzard has changed it's effect to work on spells too?

Test: does not seem to affect spells. Also the debuff never stacked over 1 single application.

It will probably also be viable for the tanking Deathknight, as extra diseases will at more DPS/Threat for Blood Strike increasing his overall threat generated.

The effect of this elixir is questionable for pally AoE grinding. I've barely noticed any difference with or without using this. If it affects shield spike, I'd never know it because the damage figures are practically identical both with and without this elixir up. (Using combatstats for reference)
Also, holy shield is just that.. holy, and gains no benefit whatsoever from Gift of Arthas. You may as well quaff something more useful, like an mongoose or giants elixir while leveling.. if that's your thing.

The buff effect lasts 30 min...

When a mob/player gets afflicted by it, after hitting the player with the buff, it will last 3 min.

I have used these potions with great results in the Divino-Matic quest in Zul'Farrak... it really gives the melee DPS a nice boost (especially the quick hitters). I plan on giving them to my tanks (I'm a priest) in future instances when things start getting harder.

This potion processes very often, but in regards to the earlier comments, I suggest you making 1 at a time (meaning, don't leave extras in your bags) then using it cause the bug is frustrating.

As I'm posting this, the bug with disappearing potions in the inventory has been fixed.

If this potion is used in combination with the rogue DoT skills and/or hemorrhage, mobs will rot away in a bad manner.

Edit: The recepe can be acquired from AH quite easy. On my server it sells as low as 40s buy-out, every time I check at least a dozen is being offered. Getting the herb Arthas' Tears is far more difficult: until you can safely walk Felwood you don't have access to it.

At first I thought this was a useless potion. Then I realized that all this +7 from Hemmorage and +4 from my swords and the adds from this REALLY start to add up.

Give one to the tank and EVERYONE gets to increase damage. :)

1.5 speed dagger = 5.3DPS = 37.3 Strength = 74.6 attack power.
2.0 speed = 4DPS = 28 Strength = 56 attack power.
2.5 speed = 3.2DPS = 22.4 Strength = 45 attack power.
3.0 speed = 2.66DPS = 18.66 Strength = 37.3 attack power.
4.0 speed = 2DPS = 14 Strength = 28 attack power.

Just so you know, 1 handed weapons gain 1DPS about every 1 - 1.5 levels. 2-Handed weapons gain 1DPS about every level.

This potion can add about 2-6 levels worth of damage on to your weapon(s) (from slow to fast). For those of you that know how good it is to get a new weapon, even if it's only +2DPS, it's actually a significant boost. I guarantee you that these potions will pay for themselves.

It usually drops at Felstone Field about 1/100 enemies. You need to be 51+ though.

On my realm, i used to buy Artha's Tears for about 1g a stack of 20. Even though they ARE pretty hard to find, cuz ive only seen then in a few instances.

And the potions themselves sell for about 1g per stack.

i dont melee, but wen i made these for the 1st time and gave them to the melee'ers in my grp, they seemed pretty happy with the effects.

reading this, kind of tells me its a really good pot, but the time i used it was for RFD, just wondering, it the potion still as useful for mobs about lvl 50-60? Cuz 8dmg doesnt seem a lot for ME, but what do i know...my mains a mage, i dont melee.

(But the shadow resistance is good)

I use it on boss like lucy and other bosses where rogues can deal dmg - you can argue if its good or not, since it takes up a debuff slot, but i like the extra dmg boost your offering your raid.

I'm a high level Alchemist and I gave a Gift of Arthas to a warrior tank to drink in our group when we were doing ZF. I also gave him a Elixir of Giants for more DPS ontop of all the warrior buffs he had.

Every mob that hit him was inflicted with the Arthas diesease. He literally sliced through the elites like they were normal mobs. The bosses died quick too.

I really cant tell you how good this potion is for tanks. It only lasts 30 mins but you will kill anything much faster once they have the diesease (which lasts on them for only 3 minutes - but I guarantee they wont even last 20 seconds once inflicted and you start hitting them)

Best effects are when you give your tank this potion (Gift of Arthas) and also a Elixir of Giants and a Mighty/Great Rage potion.

After he's drunk them, sit back and enjoy the show.

Arthas Tears is the rare super herb used in this concotion and its hard to find. Blindweed is the other but is much easier to find.

I play a priest and I solo quite a bit.

The other day I made my first few Gift of Arthes pots and used it while grinding for my mount. I found that on the rare ocasion that I had a mob on me in melee, that occasionally the spell I was casting would be interrupted and I couldn't cast any spell from that school for the next 5 seconds. I know for a fact that it wasn't something that the mob was doing, because it never happened before and only affected one school of spells, not all.

Anyone know if this is a bug or a hidden downside?

Can anyone confirm?

This recipe, i've grinded felstone field in 3 lvls and ti recipe has dropped 5 times... on that field.. sold the recipes for 1-2 g

Does this stack? Like, if you have 10 meleers drink these, will it be applied 10 times to whatever you're fighting? (assuming that they get hit a few times, of course)

This recipe dropped twice when grinding Felstone Field in Western Plaguelands. I don't know whether it was just luck or if they drop fast there. I sold both of them for 5 gold a piece although they are probably worth a lot more.

Proc works on bosses in Karazhan so i think its safe to say it works on pretty much every boss that isn't immune to disease.

This is, hands-down, the best Guardian Elixir a tank can use in any group that includes physical DPS (Rogues, Hunters, Warriors, etc.). Whenever I'm in a group that isn't me + healer + 3 casters, and when I don't absolutely need to have some other Guardian Elixir active, this is the one I use.

It doesn't make that much of a difference with typical trash mobs, as they will die quickly enough anyway. But for the stronger trash, or any boss, Gift of Arthas adds 8 damage to EVERY individual attack that lands on the target. That doesn't sound like a lot, but if you are in even a 10-person raid (think Karazhan or Zul'Aman) and you have 3 physical DPSers, that adds up to THOUSANDS of extra damage during the battle - more like TENS OF THOUSANDS in a typical boss battle.

The difference in kill speed is very noticeable. As long as the target is going to hit the tank in melee (that's almost any boss, and most trash mobs) you cannot beat the added damage produced by this elixir. The best part is, it scales with the number of people in the group, so when you go on to larger raids it gets even better.

I also recommend Oil of Immolation which is just tremendous for adding threat to large groups. It doesn't even trigger the combat potion timer. Ez-Thro Dynamite II is also nice for this purpose but can only be used once per minute - you can guzzle another Oil of Immolation as soon as the 15-second duration of the previous one is complete.

(And I'm wondering if these other posters watched it stack up.. Cause we could see sunder stack but this did not! Our MT and OT both had it on.. And ya.. Not only did it not stack on mobs and pats in ZA, It sure as hell dosen't stack on bosses there! Too bad.. Cause it's listed as getting nerfed in 2.4 from Unlimited stacking to 20!)

Sooooo if you thought you might gain a little advantage over mobs in ZA and get that bear mount... u b tinking wrong meng!

The Gift of Arthas potion isn't that bad if you are soloing. I'm a 60 Hemo specced rogue. Although the +8 to damage is barely noticeable, most can be said by my main attack. Hemmorhage. With +8 damage from the potion, and +7 from my talent, I'm hitting harder at +15 extra damage. To answer people's questions. Does it stack w/ Hemmorhage? Yes. It does indeed stack. Is it worth it to sell? Not really. Most casters will not see a benefit from this, unless they come under heavy fire of melee.

Main tanks in raid situations however... that's a different story.
For example, a raid is killing a Corehound off in Molten Core. Ya, we all know.. Molten Core is nothing now. However, here's the example.

Ancient Core Hound hits MT, gets affected by the pot.
Let's say for example, one strike, each melee hits for roughly 200. Let's say you have 12 melee total (Including tanks) You have 20 casters (mages, warlocks, balance druids whatever) Let's say they also hit for 200. Now, it's almost impossible for all these 32 people to attack at the same time, but just for sake of this example, we say they live in a Utopia, and did.

32 people hitting at 200 damage each. Add +8 damage to each person. What is that 256? 256 extra damage done to that one mob with one strike. That damage, gets added onto anything. Factoring in special attacks, Hemo rogues (like myself), Curse of Shadow, Curse of Elements, any small additions adding to damage, you see a rather large change in pace of dps. The littlest things count. Something as simple as this pot, it does have it's uses.

But again, repeating...
This potion will be a waste to casters if they aren't getting hit, and yes... agreed with many below, the increase in damage is rather minimal, and unnoticeable by most.

Again, my two cents.

Sure, for soloing pruposes this potion is not that great. But think about it, people spend tons of money on +dmg enchants, scopes etc. In a 40man raid when the maintank has this it means that everyone who deals physical damage gets that +8 bonus, and thats just invaluable. It adds up to a *lot* of extra dps. Better yet, it works on most bosses in the game, try and see. The more then fair price is just a bonus.

I'm MT, and I don't fight a boss without it, unless I know we can easily take it down. Best of all, it stacks with Haemmorage (sp), so you can get a lot of extra damage on the mob.

To those of you who think this is not very good I think you are thinking on too small of a scale. +8 to damage taken my not seem like an all to powerful debuff when you are solo griding mobs because you are likely the only person to benefit from the efect. To clarify, in a 40 man situation instead of just you getting +8 to your attacks every person in the raid gets +8 to all thier attacks. As an example if every person in a 40 man raid landed just one attack of any sort on a boss effected by the the debuff it would cause and additional 320 points of damage. On another note, if you do not play a Rogue/Hunter/Fury Warrior/Feral Druid it may not neccesarily occure to you just how many attacks there classes can land in a very short period of time. A rogue dual weilding daggers that would be 2.0 speed or less on both hands means they would, by m estimation, land a default attack about once every second, then factor in all pf a rogues instant attacks and you can see just how fast a rogue can land attacks, all of which would be increased by 8. Over a period of a boss fight which could be 10 min or more 2 or 3 of the procs of this could provide thousands more damage. Im my opinion, on bosses that are not immune to disease, this could be on of, if not the most usefull potion to help make them die faster.

The idea is good, but the damage penatly needs to be increased significantly. I've had this recipe for what, 2-3 months? I've made it only once (when I found it in the Western Plaguelands). I made it once because after I used one, I was rather disapointed because the damage penetaly is hardly noticable, specially for classes that wear cloth.

Sure, the "increases damage by 8" does not seem so significant. But have you considered the shadow resistance? When I do Scholomance or Stratholm, I dawn my shadow resist gear. I cringe when I think of all the stats I am sacrificing to get the increased shadow resist, but it helps. Here you have +10 shadow resist for next to nothing. I couldn't get rid of my Arthas' Tears herbs to save my life. But now I have a use for them, +10 shadow resist.

So i was doing some #s and this might actually be bis lvling consume and make assasinations better lvling.....? ik sounds crazy.... at lvl 46 my kitty is auto hitting @ 44-50. +8 damage is 17% damage increase per @ 47 swings. ass rogues for sure hit more for less so w.o a doubt marginally better % wise. but considering ferals are physical dot %^&*!s now with 6 ticks every 6 seconds with rip and rake alone. I was just tryna speed up lvling but come to think of it hardcore players? maybe they already on it i dont keep up with playing safe im a @#$% it lets do it live guy.
