Borseggio
, for the less-agile and uninitiated, is a unique ability allowing rogues in stealth to loot special items from hostile mobs without entering combat. If done sloppily, it can aggro mobs, annoy your party members, and make you look pretty clumsy. If done correctly (and with enough bag space), you can amass a collection of unique items, and if you’re lucky, some epics inside of a lockbox. There's a lot of mundane objects in the pockets of Azeroth, but one's trash is another's treasure--you might find something amusing like a trashy novel or loaded dice.
This is a guide using Wowhead's vast database to show you every fun item you can pickpocket in World of Warcraft. Either for vanity item collections or just to send your friend something fun, this list will help you rediscover Azeroth and more.
Pick Pocket: An Overview
Pickpocketing was primarily utilized to acquire lockboxes, which were then used to skill up one’s lockpicking. (In Cataclysm, this ability lost some of its charm as it no longer required manual skillups.) It was also heavily featured in rogue-only quests: I have fond memories of
frustrating my level 10, and quests for Ravenholdt Manor and Sunken Temple requiring pickpocketed items. However in Cataclysm, stealth is no longer the answer and these types of quests have been downplayed, although rogues can still pickpocket the
Chiave del Torvo Beone
from
Spiny Spazzanello
. Fortunately, most of the silly items remain, upholding the reputation that rogues are slightly sinister with entirely way too much booze and a path of
Borsellino Vuoto
s in their wake.
The most important item one can pickpocket in Cataclysm is
Anello di Decodifica del Criptomante
from
Hagara la Tempestosa
. This is needed to complete
Provare il tuo valore
, an early quest in the chain for
Zanne del Progenitore
.
A few basic pointers about pickpocketing: to most efficiently pickpocket, get
Glifo Carbonizzato
and approach your enemies from behind to avoid detection in melee range.
Predatore della Notte
is an easily-obtainable and useful talent as it inreases your speed while stealthed. If you see a mob with a blue eyeball over its head—run away, it has increased stealth detection. A pickpocketed mob will take roughly 10 minutes to replenish its pockets: try farming and resetting a dungeon if you are impatient. You can pickpocket most humanoids and some additional mobs as well; a good rule-of-thumb is that if it looks like it has pockets, it probably does. And it never hurts just to stealth up and try your luck anyway; you can even pickpocket some bosses. Just make sure you don't right-click the mob in melee range and auto-attack it by accident.
Here is a basic pickpocketing macro that you can use:
#showtooltip Pick Pocket
/targetenemy
/cast Pick Pocket
/cleartarget
You can modify this a lot if you want to combine pickpocketing with other Subtlety abilities.
Lockboxes
Even without providing skillups anymore, lockboxes, the quintessential rogue item, still have some entertainment value.
Heavy Junkboxes
are used to increase reputation with
Corvolesto
, a requirement of the achievement
Follia estrema
. Most high-end lockboxes follow the same loot table: they contain some silver, with a chance of gems, healing potions, poisons, and possibly an epic. As your rogue levels, you will automatically be able to open higher-level boxes every few levels. The boxes are not BoP: they can be mailed to alts and friends if you want to stockpile them. The boxes cannot be placed on the Auction House, but their contents can be.
Cofanetto Rovinato
, from level 20-30 humanoids, requires 1 Lockpicking. It contains the fun item
Orologio da Tasca Piccolo
.
Cofanetto Consumato
, from level 30-40 humanoids, requires 70 Lockpicking. It can contain
Pozione Superiore di Cura
,
Citrino
, and
Giada
.
Cofanetto Robusto
, from level 40-50 humanoids, requires 175 Lockpicking. It can contain
Pozione Pregevole di Cura
,
Acquamarina
, and
Rubino Stellato
, with a small chance at
Squartatore
.
Cofanetto Pesante
, from level 50-60 humanoids, requires 250 Lockpicking. It has a high chance to contain
Rubino Stellato
, once useful for
Mirino da Cecchino
, and a small chance to contain one of the following epics:
Lamaombra
,
Spada Lunga Fiammeggiante di Teebu
, and
Rasoio di Alcor
. As stated above, this type of junkbox is needed to achieve exalted
Ravenholdt
for
Insane in the Membrane
, in the quest
Servono cofanetti
Cofanetto Resistente
, from level 60-70 humanoids, requires 300 Lockpicking. There’s a small chance to contain
Pozione Eccellente di Cura
or one of the following gems:
Topazio Nobile
,
Pietraurora
,
Talasite
,
Rubino Vivente
,
Occhio Notturno
, and
Stella di Elune
, but the real fun is getting
Lama Notturna
or
Squartavertebre
. This started a tradition of lockboxes containing epic thrown weapons, as they’re generally scarce on boss loot tables.
Cofanetto Rinforzato
, from Northrend humanoids, requires 350 Lockpicking. There’s a small chance to contain
Pozione Runica di Cura
or one of the following gems:
Topazio Monarca
,
Bagliore Autunnale
,
Smeraldo Silvano
,
Zaffiro Celestiale
,
Rubino Scarlatto
, and
Opale Crepuscolare
. There’s three weapons unique to this lockbox:
Lamavespro
,
Mannaia di Krol
, and
Fendicarne Spinale
.
Cofanetto Bruciacchiato
, from level 80+ humanoids, requires 400 Lockpicking. These can contain a ton of useful things. The
Bevanda del Ladro
is a unique twist on healing potions; it’s BoP and usable only by rogues—even more useful since healing potions are scarse this expansion. In addition to containing relevant gems (
Occhio Demoniaco
,
Rubino Infernale
,
Ambra Pregiata
,
Smeraldo Onirico
,
Topazio Ardente
,
Zaffiro Oceanico
), they can also contain items needed for inscription offhands and relics (
Corno di Drago Recuperato
,
Mandibola Sbiancata
,
Frammento di Scaglia di Alamorte
,
Occhio di Ogre Conservato
,
Braccialetti Portafortuna d'Argento
).
The three unique epics are
Lama del Crepuscolo
,
Laceratore Spinale
, and
Decapitatore di Krol
to complete the long line of Krol weapons.
In addition, the Reinforced Junkbox, Strong Junkbox, Sturdy Junkbox, and Worn Junkbox can contain the following macabre greys:
Tabacco Grezzo
,
Nodo Maldestro
,
Diario del Ladro
,
Teschio Umano
, and
Osso d'Avorio Intagliato
.
Pocket Corners: Flavor Items
In addition to lockboxes, humanoids contain a wide array of flavor items in their deep pockets. From romance novels to rivets, a rogue can pickpocket something incriminating for later blackmail. There’s also boring stuff like ooze and scraps: it's not as interesting to highlight, but you can find a full list of items from pickpocketing
here
.
Beverages
A rogue can pickpocket food and drink most any vendor can sell; we’ll concern ourselves with the unique items, namely booze.
There’s six beverages unique to pickpocketing:
Grog di Cuornero
from Vash’jir,
Birra Rosso Sangue
from any Cataclysm humanoid,
Torcibudella Disgustoso
from Deepholm,
Fluido per Imbalsamazioni
mostly in heroic Shadowfang Keep,
Brandy Forte Gilneano
from any Cataclysm humanoid, and
Vino Baciato dal Sole
from Uldum.
Store your beverages in
Fiaschetta Vuota
from drunken level 30-40 mobs.
Beauty/Cosmetics
While a rogue would never use cologne or perfume to give away a hideaway, it appears most mobs in Azeroth enjoy fragrances and beauty on the run.
Cologne:
Colonia "Pungente"
is unique to Uldum,
Brezza Fredda
from Vash’jir is perfect for a fishy smell,
Eau de Vacc
from level 80+ mobs is for Horde pride, and
Profumo Esageratamente Forte
also from level 80+ mobs is good for smelling like tobacco.
There’s a series of handkerchiefs either for applying makeup or gently dabbing tears away caused by Deathwing’s destruction:
Fazzoletto Controllato
from level 80+ mobs,
Fazzoletto Ripiegato
from starting zones, and
Fazzoletto Fradicio
from Northrend.
To view your reflection, fix up your
Specchio Rotto
from level 20-30 humanoids. Use
Pettine per Coda
from Uldum on wild manes.
Keep your hands manicured during battle with
Cera di Chitina
from Northrend and
Lima per Artiglio
from Uldum.
Use a
Spugna Grande
from Vash’jir to freshmen up,
Piuma Solleticante
from Deepholm on ticklish victims, and
Ramo Graffiante
from Ashenvale on hard-to-reach places.
Adult Books
In times of great strife, Azeroth distracts itself with sensational literature possibly centered around
Generale Marcus Jonathan
, a strong and silent hero of Stormwind.
Romanzo Rosa
, the original trash romance novel from Burning Crusade, turns murloc hunting into flirting between a warrior named Marcus and a Nahni, a female mage. Level 20 quest rewards were never so appealing.
Continuing in Wrath,
Romanzo Rosa: L'Amore Proibito
documents Marcus’ experiences with a sarcastic undead rogue in the Deeprun Tram teaching him about finishing moves and daggers.
Argent Confessor Paletress has a hidden taste for romance; you can pickpocket
Romanzo Rosa: Sotto la Luna
from her. In this latest installment, Marcus tries to woo Soola, a draenei jewelcrafter, with a cheap necklace. Will she spurn his advances or will the Light soothe all nerves?
Romanzo Rosa: Sorprese Esplosive
, the Cataclysm installment, follows Revi, a sassy goblin, as she prepares for her date with Marcus by buying engineering-flavored toys. The series ends here, but you’ll need a secret goblin decoder ring to read the rest of the story.
To finish out the series,
Romanzo Rosa: Un Medico tra gli Orsi
is a possible reward in
Sacca di Attrezzature da Pesca
from Northrend fishing dailies. In this story, Marcus shares his retribution talents with a gnome lady eager to teach him about her affliction specialization.
The
Giornale del Gentiluomo Goblin
, from 80+ humanoids, appears to have its pages stuck together as it’s unreadable.
Ricettario Esotico
may sound tasty from level 40-60 humanoids, but it will definitely curb your appetite. A spoof from The Twilight Zone, it talks about how to roast humans.
Lucky Dice and Talismans
A good rogue has a lucky talisman and some rigged dice.
The
Dadi Nanici Decaedrici
from Northrend humanoids rolls between 1-10 and is perfect if your rogue wants to officiate some Dungeons and Daggers.
Gnomes are sneaky:
Dadi Gnomeschi Truccati
, from level 80+ humanoids, rolls sevens. Every time.
Dadi Troll Consumati
from Northrend humanoids rolls between a 1-6. Any class can obtain these three die on the AH.
Amuleto Fortunato
is an easy talisman most anyone can get; it’s from level 20 humanoids.
In case your original Rabbit Foot isn’t cutting it, consider getting
Altra Zampa di Coniglio
, primarily from Twilight Highlands or
Artigli Fortunati di Raptor
.
Palle Antistress
are great for staying calm during raids.
Rocks
Rocks appear to be a popular item to pickpocket; perhaps they’re used in slingshots even though it's not very subtle.
There’s
Roccia Bella
mostly from Razorfen Kraul,
Roccia Bellissima
from Northrend,
Bolla Pietrificata
from Vash’jir, and
Pezzo di Corallo
from level 10-20 humanoids.
For impatient rogues lacking finesse, there’s
Attrezzo di Pietra Primitivo
from starting zones and
Pietra da Leva
from Mount Hyjal and Deepholm.
Sadly, the mobs that dropped the
Sassolino
have been removed in Cataclysm.
They aren't rocks, but the following items would make cumbersome weapons too:
Osso Grande Lucidato
from Deepholm,
Pugnaletto Contundente
from Cataclysm,
Osso Spolpato
from level 10-20 zones, and
Forcella Lucente
from level 50 naga.
Humorous Junk
There are just some items that can’t be classified, but bring a smile to even the twitchiest rogue’s face.
Mano di Scorta
is literally an extra hand, a weapon from Howling Fjord, Borean Tundra, and Dragonblight.
Jack Farlocco
drops from level 60-70 demons and undead.
Bottone Lucidato con Acido
is a wildcard; it’s from level 20-60 oozes in Azeroth, with a fun flavor text and a decent selling price. One assumes the unlucky victim was dissolved by the acidic ooze.
Reliquia Rotonda
from select mobs in Dragonblight and Grizzly Hills, is a fun item to thrown between players during raid, a racy version of the
Sassolino Divertente
.
Rivetto di Bronzo Corroso
was meant to be used in the unimplemented
Cilindro d'Alta Società
.
Effige di Gnomo
, from Burning Crusade, supports the theory that gnomes exist to be punted.
Guscio di Lumaca Grande
looks fairly boring from Wrath murlocs, but includes the sarcastic flavor text “Sounds like the Land.”
Tavoletta con Geroglifici
, from Uldum, is a reference to the Rosetta Stone.
The items may not be game-changing, but they add a certain charm to the class, show the humorous side of WoW, and provide collectors with a new batch of items to find. While you can't cast Heroism or tank the boss as a rogue, you can find really embarrassing items--and that's something.
