Blizzard has released another episode of their WoW Classic with Creator's series. This one features Aaron Keller, one of the original 3D artists from vanilla WoW who specialized in building cities.
Here are some video highlights:
Aaron Keller is a 3D Artist at Blizzard, joining the company in 2001. The first project he worked on was World of Warcraft, as a member of the 3D team responsible for designing and building Dungeons and Cities.
The Producer of the Dungeon/Cities Group came into the team's office and wrote down every Dungeon and City in the game on a white board. Each member of the team took turns picking various Dungeons or Cities they were responsible for designing. By chance, Aaron Keller ended up picking mostly Cities in the game and became known as the "City Guy".
During early development on Stormwind, Aaron Keller and the team put in a little Easter Egg for Stormwind, when the player enters the City and triggers the Stormwind Music file, it would play "We Built this City" by Starship. Eventually, as team members in the office were testing the game, the song would play around the entire office.
When Aaron Keller first played WoW after it launched, he played in a group with his Wife and some of his good friends. His plan now, after Classic WoW's launch, is to create a new group, this time consisting of him and his children, with the goal of creating an entirely new journey and watching as his kids experience Azeroth for the first time.
