What is your role on the team?
Ryan Shwayder is the content supervisor for Patch 7.2. This means he works with the leads to define the featuresets for the patch, then works with the developers on feedback and iteration, then weaves the different parts of the patch together into a unified experience.
What lessons have you learned from past patches that you have applied to 7.2's Broken Shore?
The landmass of Timeless Isle was conducive to interesting boss fights and players mobilizing quickly to get to them - Tanaan Jungle was a bit too large to have people move around quickly. Since Broken Shore is very large, rares will be up for 30 minutes each day so you can get to them faster.
Blizzard is inspired by similar zones from past expansions, as well as other games.
Is 7.2 solo content as big as Suramar?
It's hard to draw direct parallels between the two - the Nightborne were a brand-new race to get to know, which necessitated a long deep questline.
With something like the Legion in Patch 7.2, players are quite familiar with the protagonists already - Illidan, Prophet Velen, Maiev Shadowsong, Khadgar. Since players already know these characters, the content goes a bit "wider."
There are still meaty questlines like class mounts and followers - but there are other types of open-world content like Demonic invasions.
Legion Invasions are amazing, but why are there no rewards when we finish 4 world quests from the quest?
The World Quest component for the Legion Invasion quests is part one of three; it culminates in a 3 person scenario. You'll get your reward for completing the full scenario.
Anyone below 110 can do the World Quests and get the basic rewards, but you need to be 110 to do the epic 3 person scenario at the end.
Are Artifact Appearances and Class Mounts locked behind time gates?
You can work towards the Artifact Appearances Day 1 if you have above 35 Traits - when the Mage Tower is up.
Class Mount requirements
: Exalted Reputation with Armies of Legionfall and finishing the 11 week campaign. Every week there is a new quest for that 11 week period.
What is your design philosophy behind the varied approaches to class mounts in 7.2?
The guiding principle is class fantasy - and every class fantasy is different. Blizzard tries to sell that fantasy in each class mount acquisition - and that leads to differences in the questlines and types of rewards.
In some cases, it makes sense for the class fantasy to have extra mount tints, other times it makes sense to have something else like a pet or
Miniset di Lame da Guerra
Does every class get a matching pet?
Nope - there doesn't necessarily have to be parity in the types of rewards classes earn.
How much class flavor does the Broken Shore have outside of mounts and followers?
Throughout Legion, you've been collecting the Pillars of Creation, and we are now prepared. All the classes are working together now to defeat the Legion - the Alliance and Horde conflict is downplayed.
Every class is participating equally and some areas even change appearances based on what class you play. Eg on a Warlock, you may see infernals helping you, while on a Shaman elementals would help you. There are areas unique to each class on the Broken Shore hub.
Several weeks into the Broken Shore, you can recruit a new class follower that is a Guardian. If you don't want the follower but you like what they can do, you can bind and summon them to only show up when you want them. After that, you can unlock World Quests which are class-specific (two per day). These quests are tailored to each class - eg Paladins purify, Rogues sneak around.
How long should it take to complete
Ricognizione delle Isole Disperse, Parte Due
In reality, it will take a couple of weeks. The fastest you can do it is after assaults begin (
Difensore delle Isole Disperse
), which start in Week 2 of Patch 7.2. The other big requirement is revered with Armies of Legionfall which you can start on Week 1.
Exactly how difficult will the solo instances for the
unique Artifact Appearances
They are tuned to be challenging. Blizzard expects that players with maximum skill and gear could get it immediately--but probably not. It is meant to be a demonstration of mastery of your specialization. As time goes on, it will get easier with gear and traits.
Are new skins unlocked per spec or across all specs?
It's unlocked per spec. There are seven total challenges and your spec is assigned to one of them - and there is variety among roles (eg all DPS do not have the same challenge).
Why are some tints of the challenge appearances unlocked via raiding or PvP?
Unlocking the base tint reflects your mastery of your spec in a solo encounter. The other tints demonstrate your mastery in other areas of the game - like raiding or PvP. Blizzard drew parallels to Balance of Power - the base appearance requires a long raiding questline, and the other tints have very different requirements.
Are the Artifact Challenges and new skins something you expect all players to complete eventually before Legion?
This is difficult to answer because it's hard to predict game balance. But the intent is that you will never be handed this skin easily - it will always come down to your skill in a solo instance. This is more than just a DPS check, there are mechanics that you must respond to. Gaining ilvls or artifact power will help but it will not be enough alone to get through it.
If you fail, it is fairly easy to retry when the Mage Tower is available.
What are the uses for Legionfall War Supplies besides buildings?
Their only outlet is for buildings - you put 100 Legionfall supplies towards one of three buildings. Every time you contribute towards a building, you get a reward cache. You can contribute as much as you want to per day (not limited to one turn in).
What happens to the
Broken Shore Buildings
past 7.2 or Legion, when a few players want to complete unfinished business?
This is something Blizzard has been talking about and planning for. There are dials to turn to make things easier in the future if necessary. Or perhaps the buildings would be permanently up.
Note: each time you rebuild them currently on the PTR, there is one buff which is always activated, and then another buff which cycles between one of four options.
Are there any concerns that the
limited nature of the buildings
will make it hard for people to do the activities they are interested in at convenient times?
Buildings are up for three days before they are attacked and destroyed by the Legion. Then there is a 24-hour period before you can contribute towards rebuilding it again.
Blizzard feels like three days is a good amount of time for players to experience the content. When the buildings are destroyed and rebuilt, there can be overlap with the number of buildings up as well - all three could be up if they're rebuilt quickly.
You can also see when a building is close to being active - there is a progress bar in-game showing how close the new building is.
There are still things to do for every playstyle even when your favorite building isn't up.
What are plans to offset the lost health pool from changed artifact traits in 7.2?
Your first new 7.2 trait is 10% damage and stamina. The goal is not to get weaker when you unlock the new Empowered traits and lose the old 20/20 Infinite trait.
What's Velen doing at the Tomb of Sargeras?
This was an opportunity to progress Velen's story - you'll see him at the start of the Broken Shore scenario. A lot of people think that he believes the Light has forsaken him, but he's reached an understanding with the Light. He wants to take the fight to Kil'jaeden - he's been pursued for millennia by this primary antagonist. This is his opportunity to get vengeance in his mind and get closure.
Will Jaina make a reappearance on the Broken Shore?
Jaina will not compromise her ideals and work with the Horde, but the Armies of Legionfall is about working together across factions. 7.2 is telling the story of Illidan and Maiev. Jaina also has a story to tell, and the time needs to be right so her story can shine. Can't promise when or if she is coming.
Will the final Order Hall advancement affect all World Quests or just those that grant Artifact Power?
For context, when you unlock your class follower, you unlock the ability to research Rank 7 and 8 Order Advancement. The earlier Ranks will be easier to research as well.
Can we expect more pet battle dungeons in the future?
It's up to you, the players! It depends how players like it. Legion has a lot of experimental content, and if players like it, then Blizzard will spend more time on it.
With everyone getting higher item level gear, will the follower ilvl cap be raised in 7.2?
Yep, that is one of the systems being updated. Follower ilvl cap will be increased to around 900.
Any changes on the horizon for leveling alts?
Blizzard has been talking a lot recently about max-level catch-up improvements - but what about getting to 110?
As far as raw experience numbers, the Legion Assaults in Broken Isles are good bonus objectives with meaty amounts of experience.
As for max-level changes, the Knowledge cap is going from 25 to 50. For characters that aren't 25 yet, it should be pretty easy to reach in 7.2. There is a quest on the Broken Shore that unlocks the ability to progress on new knowledge levels from 25 to 50 as well.
Other alt-friendly changes: legendary changes, Pathfinder 1 and 2 account-bound, Suramar dungeon unlock changes, class campaign mission requirements easier/faster.
Heirloom improvements are not coming in 7.2, but it is something Blizzard is looking at for later in the expansion.
Will we be able to get Nightbane loot from a Mythic+ Kara dungeon (excluding mount)?
Nightbane is not in Mythic+ - so you cannot get any loot on his table from the dungeon.
Can we get new relics before Tomb opens?
Future raids will no longer drop non-throughput relics.
