These eels are located just to the Northeast of Shattrath, in Silmyr Lake (looks more like a long pond to me). They're very weak for their level (went down in 3 non crit frostbolts for me) and they drop the scales 1 out of every 3 kills or so. Easy xp, don't skip this by any means.

A good thing to note would be that this quest will get you a fishing pole that is by far better than the , simply because of the extra stam on this one. Lets you take a couple more hits by a random mob than the BIFP would.

Ironically you can't get the Eel's by fishing, I tried for about 20 mins and none came up. Ah well, still good fishing skill-ups.

The droprate was about 30%. Felt like they dropped a bit more in the southern part of the lake, however this is still a good spot, you can two hit the eels and they drop quite many motes of water... I also got a nice orb and a helmet (quite crappy but sold to vendor for 5g).

After a couple of tries, I decided to SKIP this quest, as the area is camped by higher level chars farming motes, and it's a slow quest to begin with. You also can't stack it with anything, so unless you need the fishing pole, go do other quests.

For those horde-side, Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=19022) is a better alternative. It doesn't have the +51 stamina (who needs that on a fishing pole, anyway?) ~~but it has +25 fishing.~~ For the Alliance, however, this is a perfect fishing pole.

As for the actual mob, they're quite easy to kill. Took me maybe 10 seconds to kill one, maybe less. They also drop Motes of Water pretty easily (I got one almost every kill), so good to farm if you're looking for Primal Water.

Drop on the quest item sucked for me, though. About 1 in eight.

EDIT: The Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 was actually nerfed years later in Wrath of the Lich King patch 3.1. It now only gives +20 fishing, meaning it is now equivalent to this fishing pole. Horde players no longer get an advantage in fishing skill. ~~It also, for some reason, is now no longer disenchantable and only sells to vendors for an entire 7 copper.~~

I really wonder what must go through the minds of the people working at Blizzard to think almost four years after a fishing pole was added that they need to nerf it.

EDIT 2: Nat Pagle's Extreme Angler FC-5000 was changed, again. It now sells for 2g85s80c and is disenchantable again.

This was totally easy and although the reward is only good if you having the fishing skill, the XP is definitely worth it. The drop rate was good - took me about 15 minutes to do the quest and the kills were easy. (lvl 65 fire mage)

This is a pretty heavily farmed area since the eels drop motes of water, so be warned there might be a lot of traffic that makes it take longer to get your quest drops.

Are there any pre-reqs for this quest? I've visited Seth a couple times, and he doesn't have a quest for me. My fishing is in the 250 area, do I maybe need to have Master Fishing first?

While this may seem like an easy quest, lower level players on PvP servers might run into problems with lvl 70 players grinding the eels for mote of water. Given that well-geared level 70 players can 2-3 shot these, the lake might not be big enough for 2-3 players at the same time. At least that's what a level 70 hunter felt in my level 64 paladins case...

What's sad is the level 70s grinding this lake have access to mobs with better droprates on mote of water. At the very least they should be spending time grinding Muck Spawns in Nagrand, barely any HP and vulnerable to frost like these guys plus good droprate on water motes.

Anyways, new char on a low-pop server, did this at 2AM, just me in the lake. Got a primal in the process. While the droprate for the quest item is just about as bad as the Zangarmarsh eel grind fest, since you actually get items of value (particularly water motes) from these guys you aren't as buggered.

Drank a 60 min water breathing potion in jumped in the lake with 0/8 scales

At 50 min left on the potion had 8/8 scales.

64 rogue, average encounter was 4.5 seconds.

Note*

If you are a Tailor / Blacksmith or Leatherworker ... and you raised your profession up to 350 (by example at level 63) then is this place good for farming Mote of Water ... 18% Droprate that's surely not bad for those Eels who you can kill in 2 Shadowbolts. I should say it's easy xp farming them and you get the Mote's you allways wanted. Also Elemental Fragment drops each kill ... A stack of those goes for 2g37s at the Vendor (Grey Trash)

I think they may have fixed the drop rate on this -- I was done in nine minutes flat (nagrand cherry as my timer), and this is with low mana as a Prot Paladin (i.e., no DPS). I certainly didn't have to kill 60 of them.

Same here - warlock water breathing had plenty to go, and picked up 7 motes. In all about 25 kills total to get the needed 8. While this is really not an upgrade from the iron pole (both +20), it will let you put the iron up on the AH for some gold (my server they sell upwards of 75g+).

You will most possibly be attacked in this area seeing as it's a favoured farming spot for Primal Water. Take care, before you know it, some level 70 lock is gonna sneak up behind you. Or what might be even worse :P

hunters use track beast!!! will help so much, this little eels are sumtihmes hard to find, if u dont find a well-populated area in the lake

For those of you who don't fish like me and your wondering if this is even worth the trouble. the short answer is Yes and here is why

1. The pond is right out side Shatt so little travel time
2. Easy to kill like the others have said
3. Drop rate is about 1 in 3 so 30% not bad

and the number 1 reason why you should do this quest money

here is my total cash for a mere 10-15mins work

Grey Trash
x 5 = 66s 25c
x 19 = 2g 25s 15c
x 1 = 63s 13c

AH Loot
x 3 = avg ah sale 3-6g
x6 = avg ah sale 8g

Fishing pole 5g 1s 77c

Total gold for 10mins work = 19-22g

So don't miss out on some easy cash :)

Definitely pick off-hours to run this quest. On my server at least (Area 52) it can be a bit mobbed with low to mid-60s grinding for motes waiting on a BG queue or something.

Drop rate is pretty sour, but at least the vendor trash and Motes are decent amount of cash from the time you spend killing.

I did this quest so that I could sell my Big Iron Fishing Pole. I got about 20g for it...

The drop rate for me on 01 June 2008 was about 1 pristine shimmerscale eels for every 15 shimmerscale eels killed at the lake location 40,12, but still easy kills (lvl 70) just round up 4 or 5 then kill them all.

It'll seem really impossible earlier. But after a while the drop rate gets better.
The other characters in the water aren't too annoying.
PS - If you're a hunter, Track Beast is absolutely amazingly useful.

If you were in Zangermash before Terokkar (which many people are), and you do one of the quest that gives you the Potion of Water Breathing (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25539), don't just throw it away when you're done.

It comes in handy for this quest. Makes killing all the eels much faster, without having to buy one of the regular potions, or find someone to bless you.

I went there now. The lake is filled with Eels and I ended up killing about 20-25 before I got my eight Pristines. The Eels got very low HP, so all in all I think it took maybe 20 minutes solo. (65 arms/fury warrior)

The eels swim around in the lake, go in and kill, after killing enough for 4 people, we ended up with about a 16% drop rate.

well, I started this quest as a 63 rogue, Thought I had to get my fishing skill up to do this, and went and got it to 225 then realized (after looking at this site) That I had to kill things...

So, I went to kill them, and jumped right in, having 5 aggro me at once. I magically killed em all....idk how, my stormshoud armor is not the best there is, but I suppose its b/c these guys are WEAK. Anyway, every single one of them dropped the Pristine Shimmerscale Eel. I was like this is going to be simple, but I was wrong. After killing about 100 more there were still no more drops. Is this a glitch, or do I still need to slaughter these guys endlessly? So far Ive gotten around 66,000 xp just off these guys...even went to my bank to make sure I didnt have any there like I have done once before on another quest.

If its the quest and not the game, goodluck to all who try it

38,9 Is Correct...... lake at the very top of the map near shattrath... to the east of it. the fish are in the lake...

doing this quest as we speak... and my drop rate is around ..16% pretty bad. i keep getting elemental fragments or something .. I did get a level 59 mail chest tho on 2nd kill ^_^

Without Coords: Take the Exit near the Bank of Aldor on the Terrace of Light level. It's the road that leads to Zangarmarsh, on the right hand side you'll see a waterfall pouring into a lake. Should say Discovered: Sylmir Lake. That's the lake.

It took me about 25 Kills to get all 8 and 2 bonuses

Got all eels in 12 minutes, they dropped about 70% for me! Also got 9 pieces of Mote of water which makes it even more worth doing it :)

I thought you had to fish the eels from the lake. I spent about 5 mins fishing. I was beginning to wonder if I was in the right location when I saw the eels in the lake.

The reward doesn't really have better fishing stats than Nat Pagle's fishing pole.

Well, apart from the fact that last night there was a 70 gnome lock kicking about, and today a human mage, ganking me 3 times it was and okay drop rate, i got 8/24 which is 33%, nice quest, easy peasy lemon squeasy.

The other coord u gave is in the middle of a camp with tons of orcs... no fishies in that lake

The reward is the same as a Big Iron Fishing Pole, just does more damage when you are minding your own business fishing, and something decides to jump you for NO reason. With this, you can woop on them better!

It took my lvl 69 lock 15 minutes to do this quest. I killed about 40 eels; almost the entire lake full before they started to regen. That equates to a 20% drop rate. I love these people that get 100% and 50% drop rates. It could mean one of three things. Either they are the luckiest bast#$@ds ever or they suck at math or they are full of $@*#.

Coords are confirmed. 38,9 or there about.

I don't know about my drop 'rate' but I know this... I killed some reasonable number (didn't seem painful) I had my scales and 9 motes of water. Killed three more and got the 10th to make my primal. Nice bonus methinks.

The lake is right by Shattrath City. In between it and Zangarmarsh. Or see cords below.

The eels are fairly easy, as a prot war, I never stopped to rest, maybe 10-20 seconds chasing after the next eel inbetween fights. I ran a 60% droprate for the quest item. All in all one of the easiest outland quests I've done, since its so close to town.

discovered this quest while looking up about the stranglethorn fishing tournement

drop rate wasn't to bad about 26 kills for the 8 but had a whole primal water as well for my efforts :P

its the same lake as where old man barlo gives the fishing daily quests as of patch 2.4

yes the pole from stranglethorn is better but this one still gets the job done while you attempt to win it

This was suprisingly easy. I got it done at level 62 mage in 15 minutes, tops. But I do recommend an underwater breathing potion. I popped one when I started and came up only twice to drink. It also got me away from a level 70 Horde that was hanging around the lake.

The mobs these drop off of are farmed 24/7 on my server by bots.

I would reccomend skipping this quest on populated realms this can take forever and for certain classes being underwater fighting is really difficult.

The mobs you need to kill are in the lake just northeast from Shattrath, if you take the lower city tunnel near the quest giver and stay to the left you will reach it.

I did this quest just now and I'm on a busy server, this lake was ridiculously congested and as a slow melee class there's no way you can get to mobs and tag them before other players.

What worked well for me was sitting in an underwater recess on the right hand side of the lake near the shore. There is a spawn point here and mobs will drop directly on top of you making them easy to tag as they will spawn in melee range.

Speaking of lakes, there's a lake with real good fishin' up to the northeast. I used to go up there with my friends, but my mom won't let me go anymore.

She says it's too dangerous, but I haven't seen anything up there but a few little spiders. Like spiders can do anything to you...

My favorites were always the eels that live up there. If you're going to be up by the lake, would you think about bringing back some of the eels? They're feisty but once you subdue 'em, you can bring 'em back no problem.
