With Kingston's Primers in your inventory, simply kill the various mobs that spawn in the area around and between the two portals until you obtain enough Demonic Rune Stones. You need 4 for each portal. When you have 4 stones, just get close enough to click a portal, and when it "opens" it is disabled. Repeat for the other portal, with another 4 Stones. (Keep Kingston's Primers for the turn-in.)

I might want to add that there are TWO pairs of portals. One south of the main road, one north. The ones north are for horde and the ones south are for alliance, they look the same, and the quest doesn't really mention this, so be aware of this.

This quest leads to a very cool bombing run quest…for some reason it's not marked as a chain yet.

Once you do this quest you can get https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10146 (Mission: The Murketh and Shaadraz Gateways). He then sends you to a nearby flightmaster that sends you to the Abyssal Shelf so you can do the repeatable quest Mission: The Abyssal Shelf https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10163.

If you don't complete the objective on the first runs through you won't fail, you can repeat it until you get done what you need to - so enjoy the ride and get some screenshots ;)

The portals can be found east of Forward Commander Kingston (71,62). You must collect 4 stones (Demonic Rune Stones) for EACH portal. The stones are dropped from the demons that surround the portals, and because of their low hit points, they are easy kills. Also, go inside of the portal to destroy it.
The alliance portals are located at:
Kaalez portal - (73,58)
Grimh portal - (71,55)
The Horde locations are located at:
Xilus portal - (71,46)
Kruul portal - (73,38)

*Caution - a level 60 Elite spawns randomly from the portals, so travel carefully.

For anyone having the same problem as me, you have to stand in the middle of the portal for it to work. Even though you're close enough to right click on it from the side.

If you use mana and fight the Fel Handlers make sure to take out the Netherhound first because they have a mana burn (approx. rank 2) that can deplete you quick if unchecked.

This quest is a breeze. Just solo'ed as a 59 balance druid (its orange o.O). All the mobs around the portals are 59-60(or 61, wasn't looking hard). The Fel Destroyers (60 elite) that spawn in the portals are a snap. Just use trees, use the detonators, then travel form away. Snap :P

Just like to say that the area where these mobs are found is a great way to get some grinding done if you are finding Outlands quite hard. It is a big jump from Azeroth to Outlands but I found these mobs died in seconds on my feral druid, and didn't deal much damage. They have weak armour and are mana users, indicating they drop very easily.

the time it takes to farm the runes would be better doing someting else unless you really really need one of the rewards. I droped the quest after geting 1 rune in like 40 kills. Really not worth the time.

I think any of the surrounding mobs drop the demonic rune stones. You'll need 4 for each of them.

ok here's what u need to do

first of all you need 4 demonic rune stones per portal (8 all together) these drop from the surronding demons near the portals, lucky eh.

next you need to find the two portals that you need, horde side is different
Kaalez: 72.8 58.5
Grimh: 71.7 55.2

then you will need to step inside the portal to blow it up as its a small range but still counts down (then says not in range) a 'cog' symbol appears, like the one to open chests, if this doesnt happen make sure your on the right side of the road and you have the item 'kingston's primers'

you may need to clear the area as you may inadvetantly pull a demon at the most crucail time

and finally, watch out for the elites that come out of the portal every so often

Farward Commander Kingston can be found at 71,62

a little elaboration is needed. i have collected rune stones, i click on the primer and mouse over the portal, and the finger doesnt go blue. ive been to both said coords, and nothing. little help ?

is it normal to have your healing regenration disrupted while doing this quest or being near the portals/mobs?
cuz when i am there my healing bar stops from filling up by itself when im out of battle. but when i HS to ORG it starts filling up again.

For those of you still having problems with this quest. Here's the trick. If you're at a portal and have the required stones but don't know what to do. Walk across the road to the other portals. 'Cause you're at the wrong ones for your faction. You'll get a 'gear' when mousing over the right ones.

Easy peasy quest, 60 rogue, go in, didn't die, didn't come close to dying. An elite popped up once but it's not too difficult to get out of the way in time, no one should have any problems. :)

This really is an easy quest, even at 59 or 60 it should be pretty simple, all mobs around them drop the runes and the fel handlers are very simple, their little hounds are super easy to kill, shouldn't be a problem, make sure you get insude the portal to blow it up.

You need to clear the area first. It gets annoying when you're trying to detonate the portal only to be interrupted by wandering mobs.

FYI, i have like 5 left over stones. Everyone that says the drop rate sucks is avoiding the fel handlers with the fel hunters. They are super easy to kill and everyone of my stones dropped off one of those guys.

Fun little trick for the Alliance:

You can tag one, or a few of the mobs with a ranged attack or a spell, then, turn around and run back to the camp, where the quest givers are. It'll take them a few seconds, but they'll jump up and attack the mob, if you're standing in the middle of the camp.

I'm a warlock, so I just DOT'd them twice, and farmed Soulstones for a while.

This makes it easier if you're having trouble.

My problem was that you have to actually be nearly inside the portal for it to work. So if you keep getting the "out of range" error make sure you're sitting in the swirly junk in the middle.

After you collected the four Rune Stones, don't click on the Primers but on the portal. You need to stand close to it and it takes some seconds, so you better clear the mobs first.

To complete this quest you need to destroy Portal Grimh and Portal Kaalez - this is The Alliance version of the quest!

Make your way to the north of Expedition Point and you will enter to the area with portals. Start killing demons around the portal until you collect 4 Demonic Rune Stones
After collecting enough runes get walk the portal and click to it so you will destroy it. Now get to another portal to the west and make exactly the same.

You'll find the Legion front to our northeast, and spaced along it are portals used to gather reinforcements from throughout Outland. We, <name>, are going to destroy those portals!

Take this primer. Designed in Area 52, it uses the demons' own power as an explosive device! Defeat Legion forces around Portals Grimh and Kaalez to gather demonic rune stones, use the primer to detonate the stones inside the portals... then watch the fireworks!!

Go, <name>, and return to me when your mission is complete.
