Phase hunters don't drop these , but when you kill the field of Nether Rays , mean while kill phase hunters for some motes of mana

Confirmed location. Very low drop rate for me, I had to kill about 30 to get the five drops needed. Good luck.

Kill the phase hunters for primal mana while you're waiting for the respawn. Should be able to get 10 motes easily.

45,72 are the correct coords... got all 5 from only killing 6. Very good drop rate compared to some other quests that I've spent over 30 mins. trying to get the same amount to drop.

Wowhead says the drop rate is around 22% which is much more believable than the claims above. I killed around 5 or 6 and got 1 stinger. Plus, there are not as many at the coords as you might think. Lots of waiting around. There are probably better things you can do with your questing time. On the upside they occasional drop Motes of Mana.

The addition of Nuramoc to the area has made this quest a nightmare, plus the drop rate is severely out of whack - 3 stingers in 50 kills. What astonishingly obnoxious behavior by Blizzard.

When you turn in this quest a nice a funny scene happens afterwords that I seemed to miss on my other two characters. Hang around for it.

If you've got other business in this area of Netherstorm, it's a better idea to just kill the rays whenever you come across them instead of looking for them. They're way too dispersed to farm tolerably.

those coords were good, also good if you are a skinner for the residue daily quest given for lvl70. killed like 10 to get stingers and also got 4 residue out of it.

these things have dropped 100% for me everytime the netherray used it's poison tail ability...

when i killed netherrays who didn't use this ability, it didn't drop

i have killed about 20 rays and got 2 stingers..its very frustrating since they are scattered all around

almost as bad as the pre-kara quest im doing collecting dust...about one per 30 drops :(

44,72 is good. But be careful with the @#%^ed dragon flying over there

Blizzard says that mobs with silver dragons around their portrait means it has better loot. What it actually means is that they don't spawn very often, but when they do they like to sneak up on you and kill you before you've seen them.

One thing - don't rush off after handing in the quest, it is well worth watching. Possibly better/funnier than the Practice Dummy quest in Don Morogh

Confirmed with the rest of the players here - 44,72 is a good location. I got my 5 in 7 kills.

(44 72) spot on! lol I agrod 5 when i rode in because of lag I guess. (damn mount too fast) I froze one sent pet on other, scatter shot the third, fought two, healed pet, AoE'd, healed pet again, AoE trap then feigned. when the dust settled I had 5 stingers.

Location 44,72 confirmed - there are several of them there...

Droprate was 40% for me, so really nice.

They are also pretty easy to kill(frost mage).

Looks like you need to let them use the poison for them to drop a quest item. I was killing them too fast, after 20 kills I had 0 drops. I started letting them poison me and the quest item started droping. Took me 9 kill at that point I believe.

If you are alone on this quest in the area, drops on average 1 out of 5 or 6.
If there are others in the area doing the same quest, the drop rate drops to 1 out of 9 or 10.
Tested this with 3 of my guildies, all in the same area, on the same quest but not in the group.
So, this is the same design on every item collecting quest since vanilla. Be patient and you will collect them eventually.

So, I'm just missing the one ingredient that'll give my concoction that little extra kick that it needs.

The sting of the nether rays, roaming around near the shaleskin flayers, delivers quite a punch. Bring me some of their stingers and I'll extract the venom right out of them!

I'm certain the results will be explosive!
