As of 12/8/06, this quest is bugged. You will be able to follow Khadgar's pet around Shattrath and still learn the lore, but you will not be able to turn the quest in to Khadgar.

I found that if you stand behind the NPC, and slightly to his left, it seems to work. I tried accepting and dropping the quest many times and it would not work, however, when I noticed others standing behind the NPC I tried it and it worked (finally).

This is a just an orientation quest, explaining the lore and layout of Shattrath, and giving background about the faction choice you're about to make. You pick it up in the center of the city, at the Terrace of Light.

The quest is bugged, but if you cancel and re-accept a few times it should work for you. You'll know it works when Khadgar's servant spawns right next to you ... it's an elemental that looks a lot like a Dreamsicle.

Follow him around for a few minutes, and you're done.

I had to abandon and restart this quest (Feb 12/07) due to getting distracted and losing the guardian the first time around. I can confirm that it is kind of half-bugged. It works if you are standing to the left of Khadgar.

I also had to abandon and restart the quest (2/26/07). When the servant says Khadgar is ready to see you again...DON'T jump down and see him(this is where i screwed up the first time).

Wait and the servant will send another pm saying "Good luck stranger, and welcome to Shattrath City" After that line you will get the quest complete and you will be able to turn in at Khadgar.

To me it would seem that in order for the servant to spawn you _must not stand on the stairs_ but on the actual plateau when you accept the quest. Otherwise, the summoning graphics will show but the servant will not spawn. Abandon the quest and retake it while standing on the plateau.

Basically:

When you accept the quest; the quest-giver should summon an elemental to show you around the city.

If this does not happen, then someone else is doing the quest, and you must abandon the quest and accept it again until an elemental is finally summoned.

Follow the elemental around, it takes around 8 minutes.

Turn in the quest.

At this point (and this is going ahead a bit) it shows that the quest-giver has a new quest for you - and that is choosing whether to become friendly with either Aldor or Scryer. Whichever you choose doesn't matter a huge deal - but look in advance at the gear and recipes available in each faction at their bank.

Quests are available in Shattrah for both Aldor and Scryer, so make sure to read the quests carefully before you accept them to make sure it does not give you Scryar rep if you have chosen Aldor and vice versa.

Adal didnt point my friend to Kadgar, nor did Kadgar give them a quest? wtf blizzard... Any help here would be great, friend is 65 and has not done it yet.

I've having a problem after this quest. I'm an enchanter, and only in Scryer have the GrandMaster Trainer.
However, I've choosed the Aldor side by mistake!
and now Scryer is unfriendly to me and I can't learn anything!!!

How can I make Scryer netural to me again, so I can go learn the enchant?

I waited well over 10 minutes for the elemental to show... it didn't.

I might have missed it but then if I had to watch my screen for 10 minutes for it to show up I might aswell have follow the thing around shattrath.

I tried again and popped in after 9 minutes. guess what, still no elemental in sight.

Now I followed him around and the only reason I can think of why it didn't work is because I afk after 5 minutes.

For those who are not able to acquire this quest (on my alt I walked up to Khadgar and noticed that, shockingly, he had no quest for me) you have to speak with the Haggard War Veteran, beside the entrance to the Terrace of Light directly across from the Flight Master.

Once you acquire his quest (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10210), you will speak with A'dal, then Khadgar will chime in. At this point the quest will become available.

I retried the method of standing at 50,43 for 10 minutes. Three times. The elemental did spawn, but never showed up at the end. I think it's been fixed/nerfed.

You have to follow the guy for the quest to complete.

If you don't want to walk the entire route with the minion, you can place yourself at (50,42). If you've never done this before, it's on the higest plateau inside the terrace of light in shattrath. Go in from the Aldor side and stand between the two blue flaming braziers. It takes a while (~10 min) before the minion shows up so don't think you've missed him. It will say so on the screen when you've completed the quest.

You do NOT have to follow him around. I tried it the way I explained and you only need to show up at the final location (50,42).

Here's the text of what Khadgar's Servant whispers to you:

Shattrah was once the draenei capital of this world. Its name means "dwelling of light."

When the Burning Legion turned the orcs against the draenei, the fiercest battle was fought here. The draenei fought tooth and nail, but in the end the city fell.

The city was left in ruins and darkness... until the Sha'tar arrived.

Let us go into the Lower City. I will warn you that as one of the only safe havens in Outland, Shattrath has attracted droves of refugees from all wars, current and past.

The Sha'tar, or "born from light" are the naaru that came to Outland to fight the demons of the Burning Legion.

They were drawn to the ruins of Shattrath City where a small remnant of the draenei priesthood conducted its rites inside a ruined temple on this very spot.

The priesthood, known as the Aldor, quickly regained its strength as word spread that the naaru had returned and reconstruction soon began. The ruined temple is now used as an infirmary for injured refugees.

It wouldn't be long, however, before the city came under attack once again. This time, the attack came from Illidan's armies. A large regiment of blood elves had been sent by Illidan's ally, Kael'thas Sunstrider, to lay waste to the city.

As the regiment of blood elves crossed this very bridge, the Aldor's exarchs and vindicators lined up to defend the Terrace of Light. But then the unexpected happened.

The blood elves laid down their weapons in front of the city's defenders; their leader, a blood elf elder known as Voren'thal, stormed into the Terrace of Light and demanded to speak to A'dal.

As the naaru approached him, Voren'thal kneeled before him and uttered the following words: "I've seen you in a vision, naaru. My race's only hope for survival lies with you. My followers and I are here to serve you."

The defection of Voren'thal and his followers was the largest loss ever incurred by Kael's forces. And these weren't just any blood elves. Many of the best and brightest amongst Kael's scholars and magisters had been swayed by Voren'thal's influence.

The naaru accepted the defectors, who would be known as the Scryers; their dwelling lies in the platform above. Only those initiated with the Scryers are allowed there.

The Aldor are followers of the Light and forgiveness and redemption are values they understand. However, they found hard to forget the deeds of the blood elves while under Kael's command.

Many of the priesthood had been slain by the same magisters who now vowed to serve the naaru. They were not happy to share the city with their former enemies.

The Aldor's most holy temple and its surrounding dwellings lie on the terrace above. As a holy site, only the initiated are welcome inside.

The attacks against Shattrath continued, but the city did not fall, as you can see. On the contrary, the naaru known as Xi'ri led a successful incursion into Shadowmoon Valley - Illidan's doorstep.

There he continues to wage war on Illidan with the assistance of the Aldor and the Scryers. The two factions have not given up on their old feuds, though.

Such is their animosity that they vie for the honor of being sent to assist the naaru there. Each day, that decision is made by A'dal. The armies gather here to receive A'dal's blessing before heading to Shadowmoon.

Khadgar should be ready to see you again. Just remember that to serve the Sha'tar you will most likely have to ally with the Aldor or the Scyers. And seeking the favor of one group will cause the others' dislike.

I recieved the message "Good luck stranger, and welcome to Shattrath City." hopped down ran to Khadgar and the qest wasnt done! Retrying the quest I watched and after I got that tell there was about a 2-3 second pause before the 'quest complete' appeared.

So dont rush at the end or you will end up wasting another 8 minutes following him.

Standing at 50,43 for 10 minutes (2nd floor, NW corner by Aldor tier, between the two braziers) worked just fine. I didn't stand right in between the braziers but right on the edge of the ramp, which made all the difference.

Here's a story that tells how annoying this quest can be.

A friend of mine wasn't able to finish the quest, because he play with a dial-up, and we know that shattrat can make some nice lag even on an adsl... So this friend, at some point alwasy lagged so bad that he could not follow the elemental and thus failing the quest. He tryed several times, before surrender, giving me account and password and asking (i have an adsl) to do the quest for him.

I don't know if it was a bug or not, but I just got the quest and ran to the finish ledge. The servant was there and the quest completed instantly. 30 secs versus 8-9 minutes. Anyone confirm if this is a bug?

I took the quest, followed the servant _every step of the way_, I mean I was really following it closely all the way to the end and... *drums*... Nothing happened - Quest didn't get completed, servant vanished. Not nice. After that I abandoned the quest and went to aldor bank to check out the faction items and talked to the flask-guy accidentally -> *Boom* "Your now friendly with the Aldors" and I'm like wtf!? Now the scryers won't talk to me but their faction is neutral in my reputation bars.

Gotta retry the quest later and try picking scryers and see what happens... IF the quest gets completed on next try.

*Edit* Now a day later I tried this again - Again I followed the creature around step by step, and this time got it completed. Took "Allegiance With The Scryers" and got Scryers now Neutral ( Grr, 0/3000 ) and Aldors Unfriendly ( 2650/3000 ).

So basicly I could have boosted my aldor (or scryers) rep up by first talking to the flask guy, then doing City of Light followed by Allegiance With The Aldors -quest afterwards, would have been free reputation I presume.

*Edit2* or this might have something to do with the fact that my mage is Draenei. :|

If you play a blood elf or draenei, are you in danger of being attacked by (respectively) Aldor or Scryer NPCs during this quest? Inquiring minds want to know.

Edit: No, you're not. Although you occasionally run across members of each, you're never led directly into Aldor or Scryer territory.

Have to say this is one of the most enjoyable quests I've had in the game. Having just done it for the first time. I enjoyed the lore, and the witty comments from the passersby as you go around. Though I can imagine it getting tiresome on alts, lol.

I would advise most people NOT to complete this quest before level 64. You will not be able to get to Honored rep using signets/marks until that level, so (unless you need some of the items that require only friendly rep) you will be needlessly locking yourself out of the opposite faction's trainers, bank, and tier (unless you use Arcane Tomes or Fel Armaments, which would be a huge waste of money). I just did this at 60 on an alt, hoping to walk right into the AH and buy my way to Honored, but then I saw that there was a level req on the quest >.<

Dismount before you accept the quest, and simply follow the dude around. For the next quest, be sure to look at the items each faction can provide you through reputation before choosing an allegiance. Just go the their respective banks, which are on opposite sides of the circle room, and check the vendors on the back wall of each bank.

Yes, the quest is a little bugged, you may have to abandon and speak to him again a few times before he summons his servant.

But looooooooooool at L60+ players who fail at following a NPC around for a few minutes and then come here to moan. Unbelieveable...

I don't know if there is a bug with this quest but the servant takes a long time to appear. Anyway everybody must do it as it will follow a quest where you have to choose one from the two factions of the city: blood elfs or draenei.

i did this quest, and as me and the guy were going round the lower city, i was picking up a couple of quests, i turn around, and he's gone. That was about a week ago and i never found him to this day. I was expecting him to make his own way back to the quest giver, so i logged in after and saw there was no yellow question mark.

The Lazy Players Guide to Completing City of Light!

You can go AFK during the tour if you want, just go to coordinates 50,43 on the FLOOR ABOVE Khadgar. This is where you gain the "City of Light" when the tour is complete.

Hope this helps people not need to spend every second at the chair.

I have abandoned repeatedly, left the city and even left the game before reaccepting it.

I have tried and tried (and no I wasnt mounted) Khadgar gives me the quest but will not summon the elemental thing.

I have just seen one summoned right in front of me after I have tried repeatedly but not for me :( will have to petition when I have more time.

Maybe this is just coincidence, but I noticed Khadgar will NOT summon his servant WHILE a skit playing out behind him when some NPC named Grand Anchorite Almonen is giving a sermon to a bunch of priests sitting on the ground. I abandoned the quest 3 times, but suddenly it worked when this skit was over. Please confirm, for others, if you noticed this too.

Does Khadgar give this quest? Because i don't see anything, no quest at all from Khadgar. Only some text about how the Naaru are wise beyond our understanding bla bla bla. Anyone knows why? :S

edit: nvm, i found out why. First you need to get the quest from the haggard war veteran outside the terrace of light (north east entrance). The rest is obvious.

This quest sucks. I get through it all then I accidentally run off the ledge at the end. And Do not get the complete quest. Then 2nd time I get half way into it at the part where he talks about blood elfs and I was just standing there halfway into his chat and I lag out! =.=

This quest can kiss my ass.

First attempt, I lost track of him about 5 minutes into the tour because there was all this spam going on when he was telling the story about the battle at the city, and I was trying to read that instead of following the dude around.

The second time I did that quest, I followed him around all the way to the end. He said "Welcome to Shattrath, stranger" and then I think I jumped of the ledge a second too soon, because I still couldn't turn the quest in. I messaged a GM about this BS and he just told me to the quest again. Sigh. What a waste a time, and I still have to do the stupid quest because it's a pretty important one.

I got d/c'd during this quest, about 6 minutes into the follow the leader and listen to his story part .. by the time I got back in he was gone and I was unable to complete the quest, yet it wasn't marked as failed...

Abandoned it, reaccepted it... just not in the mood to play follow the leader just yet so I'll do it later XD

First off, for those not reading the quest info.. I got this after I did the simple "A'Dal" quest which you get from a wandering NPC... https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/m=1050122

The first try I ran this I happened to activate it about 5-10 seconds behind someone else. Followed close on foot the whole time... no yellow question mark. Abandoned/Reaccepted. The second time it worked. I did not follow behind anybody, which may be part of it.

But, I also noticed that it didn't say "Completed (City of Light)" until I waited up on the ledge for 5+ seconds after the tour guide disappeared. And I could see Khadgar's question mark turn yellow from the ledge before I moved.

I am guessing the mechanics of the quest are such that it activates some AoE quest completion zone around the disappearing tour guide and you have to be in it when it hits.

The first try through, I read the text that said I was done and jumped off the balcony only to realize the question mark was still gray. /doh

I've fought many foes in the World Of Warcraft, ranging from lvl 70s of both sides to raid bosses that could 2 shot me. I've played the game for over 2 years doing quests that i thought were 'hard'. I had no idea what hard ment until i got this quest... heres a list of steps I've compiled to make this quest much easier.
Step 1: Turn down everything that makes the game pretty all the way to low.
Step 2: Go into 'Windowed Mode'
Step 3: Pick up the quest and stare directly at the ground.
Step 4: Follow him around trying not to look up.
It may take you many tries as it did with me...this is the hardest quest I've ever done.
...yeah i know my computer sucks.

This quest gave me trouble, too. Is it necessary or can I just not worry about it?

Edit: Okay, went back and did it again. Just make sure to stick next to the escort until it says you've completed the quest, even after he tells you good luck. And, to answer my own question, yes, this quest is necessary to begin the Aldor or Scryers quests.

Seems like if you accept the quest and then wait next to the badge vendor where the quest concludes, anyone who completes the quest will also trigger completion for you if you're nearby, even if your own servant has only just gotten started.

How to do this quest on classic TBC:
-As soon as you accept the quest, go to G'eras, he's on the ramp towards the western side.
-AFK at G'eras for about 10 minutes. Khadgar's Servant will remain loaded in the world even if you go out of range of him.
-Once Khadgar's Servant is near G'eras wait until you get quest complete. You will not get the quest complete if you jump down when the servant is near G'eras. You need to wait near G'eras to finish the quest.

To recognize your servant from the others, i recommend marking it with an icon as soon as you start the quest.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If someone else's servant is about to trigger the quest complete, all you need to do is stand near G'eras and you too will get the quest credit, even if you're not in their party.

In Classic TBC you can just go afk at (50, 43), and it will still complete when it finishes its' tour

After reading comments I stood up by the badge vendor with a timer running, and instead of it taking nearly 10 minutes I got an objective complete message after around a minute and could hop down and hand in the quest.

Looks like this was fixed in the pre-patch, stood right next to G'eras twice and waited 10 minutes each time without success.

As of WOTLK Prepatch, you are no longer able to stand at G'eras and afk as the servant will despawn. Enjoy the peaceful walks T.T

A^&*!@ the quest once again worked for me. A few days earlier I failed with my rogue, but today it worked again with my paladin. Went right up to G'eras when the familiar started moving. After 8+ min it came up and I got the progress for the quest.

Prepatch WOTLK tried standing near G'eras and it worked. You need to mount up and wait until he moves then go to G'eras immediately. Just to make sure it is working you gotta check that you see Khadgar's servant whispers. Hand in after about 8 mins

Quest apparently used to be 8 mins but now its exactly 13 mins, as soon as ya click accept, just go do whatever and come back in 13 mins.
