Old Hillsbrad is the first instance you are allowed to enter in the caverns and is very insightful as to warcraft lore. If you go to the southshore inn you will hear a story of the origins of Ashbringer. But mainly, Old Hillsbrad is for rescueing Thrall from the orc internment camp known as Durnholde Keep. If you do not rescue him, the world will cease to exist.

In Old Hillsbrad despite it is only 7 years ago you see Whitemane and several other bosses from SM as young children. Apparently we've been fighting kids in SM this whole time. Even adding 7 years to what they look like in Old Hillsbrad none of the bosses in SM should even be legally able to drink in the U.S.

I can't believe a 14-year old wiped my whole party. :-(

If you are looking to get out of the instance, for whatever reason, you need to go where the Yeti caves are. It is directly north from southshore and west of tarren mills.

Just some random notes: you can repair in the instance at Tomas Yance - I was horde and he talked to me - you can do the Thrall escort in parts if you die - after taretha or whatever we died and started back at the inn in Tarren Mill - also, you have to fight about 4 groups of about 4 on the way out - at the entrance to the keep is a boss pally, kill warders first they heal - and Trall rides the pally's horse! in TM Thrall runs through a few buildings that you help him clear out - 4-5 68elites in each - then after Taretha you fight three groups of about 3 of these dragonkin - not too hard - then a big dragon comes - again not too hard for 5 70s whole thing took a couple hours tho.

Fun little note, NE Druids (don't know about Taur, but I assume it works for them too) can enter the water, change into aquatic form, and when you exit, the Human Illusion spell will not re-activate. It will come back again if you change forms. Do it now, before Blizz fixes it!

Seems like they used old or rejected models for a lot of the towns folk. Lots of new human faces, and knee-length skirts.

Man, I wish I knew more Warcraft lore. There's so much cool stuff to see and watch.

Just to warn anyone wanting to help Thrall escape, once you get to Thrall make 100% sure that all party members complete the quest Taretha's Diversion by talking to Thrall and DO NOT PROCEED FURTHER (i.e. tell everyone in the party to not accept any quest from Thrall).

Only once everyone completed the quest "Taretha's Diversion", and sees Thrall with an exlamation mark proceed further with the escort. I don't know if you need to accept the quest and then talk with him again, or it starts automatically (so if anyone knows better just reply to my post).

I just had to abort an instance, one guy being so dissed that he just logged off (so we couldn't even reset the instance) because someone in the party was very mouse-click happy and decided to ruin it for the rest of us.

Also, there are other bugs with this quest, so make sure to read with the very valuable feedback people left for each and everyone of the quests in this quest line!!!!!

The instance is called durnholde keep. Make sure when you get to Thrall that whoever already did the quest dont talk to him first , or it will start the rest of the chain and who needs to talk to him for quest wont be able too and have to restart instance.

What these posts didn't tell me and that I wish I had known is that the quest that leads on from this, Escape from Durnholde is like Jail Break - in that you need to turn it in to Thrall before you can start the next one. Some stupid freaking git in my party who should've known better told me not to talk to him, then let a PUG talk to him and therefore the quest started before I could turn in the this one. SO.... make sure you hand it in, then worry about who's going to start the Escape part. Now I have to go back ... QQ

This is a fun instance. Very fast paced although it’s a tricky quest that can screw some members out of completing it. How do you ask? Well, when you enter the instance there’s a BE quest giver to turn in Old Hillsbrad. She gives you Taretha's Diversion. This is planting bombs in 5 barrels located in 5 cabins. Once bombs are planted they explode. Only 1 person need plant bombs, every1 gets credit. Easy part. Here’s the rip off. You then go to a basement where Thrall is held captive who holds a quest. The only person that should talk to him is a person who has not completed the quest before. If some who has completed the quest talks to him then the others won’t get credit. There are 1 or 2 stops where you have to talk to Thrall to keep the quest going. Again only a person who hasn’t completed the quest should talk to him. He will lead you to a BE women who must be talked too to begin the final battle. During the final battle you fight 3 or 4 groups of 5-6 mobs then the dragon. Good CC helps. If you wipe on the fight all you need to do is talk to the BE lady in the nearby cabin to restart. Thrall at this point might have an ! mark above him to start the ‘Escape quest’. The night before when I was doing the quest I didn’t know what was going on. I was trusting the other members so I just let them do whatever, which ended in me not completing it. I read the postings here and that help the 1st part, but doesnt explain the next part well. Here's how the rest happened for myself. I say that because it sounds different from Funkiwi's post. At this point Thrall has an ! mark for an escape quest. I asked the group when I should accept it, but they had no advice for me. I accepted the quest after the final battle which after about 10 secs it competed automatically and I was happy. The quest was available at the beginning of the final battle and between mob groups. I’m guessing it could’ve been accepted at anytime, but like I said noone could offer me any advice and I just ended up accepting after the fight. So, woot woot, I got two quests done. I hate when they make confusing quests like this.

I tried to do this one with a pug twice now and each time someone else started the quest, so I'm still not attuned for BM, is there a way for everybody in the group to do the quest at once?

The Black Morass Attunement Full Questline:

1. To The Master's Lair. Accept the quest on Caverns of Time entrance and speak with the dragon to fly into Caverns of Time.

2. The Caverns of Time. Accept the quest and stay afk around 7-9 minutes in the pink circle until get the quest credit.

3. Old Hillsbrad. Return the quest to Erozion inside Old Hillsbrad Dungeon. /way 27,1, 37,3 Entrance

4. Taretha's Diversion. Go to the First Boss area and use Pack of Incendiary Bombs on 5 Barrels located inside the houses. Return quest for Thrall located inside the Castle.

5. Escape from Durnholde. Make sure take this quest before speak with Thrall. The objective here is follow and help Thrall until reach the final boss.

6. Return to Andormu. Grab this quest after defeat the final boss Epoch Hunter and return to Andormu located outside the dungeon.

If an idiot starts the quest before everyone is ready, you can just wait in the basement and let Thrall go up and die. Maybe the idiot who started it can go up with him and get killed too. After a few minutes Thrall will respawn in the jail cell and you can pick up the quest. I'm guessing that the idiots will need to abandon and re-take the quest, but never having been the idiot I'm not sure on that one.

In any case I for sure will not be escorting Thrall if someone's idiocy prevented me from getting the quest.

Gather a group of adventurers and take the timeway to old Hillsbrad. Two of our agents await you inside.

Speak with Erozion on the other side.
