After killing my first 20 without a single drop, I was wondering if I was killing the right mobs. Do this if you need an easy quest that involves grinding like mad.

These mobs spawn randomly all over the inside of the eco-dome. The drop rate of the pelts is not very good, but the mobs are easy to kill.

2/17/07 - Build 2.0.8.6403

Drop rate was around 15-20% with a stretch of 11 kills without a drop my worst run (which statistically makes a drop rate over 30% very unlikely).

My recommendation is to look at the rewards at the end of the chain and determine if you want any of them. If not this is likely not worth the time. And if there is any competition at all it's definitely not worth the time.

After reading these posts, I was not sure should I do this quest at all. After killing 10(ish) without a single drop I was about to abandon it. But after those 10 kills the drop rate was no different than the one for some other quests (arround 30%). Done after 10 mins.

And, an another easy 23g in 10-15 mins for lvl70 after the 3rd quest in this chain..

I took the quest. After I killed about 10 mobs and got 1 item.

I abandoned it.
I retook it.

I went to the zone around 44.55 and the drop rate was pretty decent (around 30%)

The drop rate on this site is so totally off. I finished this after spending litterly 3 hours killing these mobs. I started counting about 15 minutes into it. And my math says it's about a 12% drop rate at best. Suggestion, find a group so you can kill fast.

If you don't need rewards at the end of this chain, save yourself a bunch of frustration and just drop it. Killed at least 30 with 0 drop of pelt. I did, however, get Designs for jagged talasite to drop off a 69...very nice. So i guess it was worth it for me to try. good luck!

I had a much, much better drop rate along the northern edge of the dome. I don't recommend grinding the lynx just outside of the camp.

Not bad quest to grind for leather though. Not hard mobs so sit back, watch tv, and you'll have skins like crazy. (Not recommended for classes other than Hunters)

First one was straight up... Up to the 6th was bad, but tolerable. The 7th Took about 50 kills at least, I almost dropped it. Partied with a friend and then straight up got the 7th. The 8th took about 10 more, then 9 and 10 dropped one after another. The drop was terrible.

I did this quest in about 20-25 minutes tops. Drop rate wasn't that different from all the loc's in my opinion. Just take some time easy grinding pretty much.

Skipped this quest the first time around as it was a pain, but I came back as a 70 wanting gold.

Ended up taking 24 kills to get the 10 pelts I needed. A pain, but not nearly as bad as many of the above comments made it out to be.

I don't know what more you'd expect. I mean, we all know drop quests blow worse than a bowl full of lame dipped in suck sauce, but here you have an easily killed mob, in bountiful supply, with virtually few additional hostiles in the area. Plenty of room to kill them one by one, and usually not much competition.

Yeah, the droprate is in the 30s-40s, but this is one of the shorter drop quests I've encountered in the game.

Needed just over 50 mobs before getting all 10. 20%. Atrocious drop rate. Gotta love these quests where you need 10 parts which only drop from 1 in 5 mobs which means most players need to kill 50+ mobs to get everything you need. Takes me back to the Hillsbrad days with turtle bisque.

Complete PITA for any melee class because these mobs appear to have higher than average dodge and parry rates in addition to bleed attacks which ignore all of your armor.

These types of quests need to be put down like much of the old Azeroth quests.

When I started it sucked.. I was 4 for 28. Eventually they started dropping (more drops for me on the west side of the dome).

Final count was 10 for 57 kills.

These comments had me putting off doing the quest, so it sat in my log for weeks. I finally completed the quest today - I got 10 from 31 Ripfang Lynx - 32%. Don't be scared away by these people over exaggerating the drop rate. It's perfectly fine and if you do it before you hit 70, you get some XP out of it and some greys that I sold for 4g.

Horrible drop rate. Took me 36 kills to get them all.

You can tell how many kills you got because they always drop "razer sharp fangs" and i had 36.

I averaged about one pelt every 6-8 mobs, I'm a skinner so I was happy with all the leather I was getting, but if you're just trying to level or powerquest for gold this really isn't worth your time.

Uhh this is a great quest tbh 20/25% drop rate, easy leather if you're a skinner, easy xp for everyone else. Theyre literally everywhere, but with enough room so you only aggro one at a time.

Combine this quest with New Opportunities for a nice easy session.

As of patch 2.3.3 the drop rate for me was 100%. Quick, easy experience, worth doing. Mobs loosely spread around Eco-Dome Midrealm, where you pick the quest up. Called Ripfang Lynxes. Took me about 6 minutes, do it!

The droprate on this is fine, roughly 33% if not more.

Every single drop quest, it's the same thing in the comments. Either you were the small majority of players (out of millions) who had bad luck, or you're exaggerating. Either way, it doesn't do anyone much good cluttering every drop quest with the same "I killed 700,000 of them for 19 hours and got 3 levels before i got the first one!" tall tales, or claiming it's bugged.

Anyway, you can finish this faster than most.

OK, so as you may have gathered, this particular quest is a bit frustrating. While at first tempting, as the lynx you need to kill to gather the pelts are all very close to the quest giver, be forewarned that the drop rate on these is low (ended up being 23% for me). So, my advice is: unless you are a quest completionist (like me) or particularly desire one of the rewards given at the end quest of this chain (Retrieving the Goods), your time would be better spent on more xp and gold efficient questing, as these mobs don't contribute to any rep or drop anything particularly useful. However, if you're up for a grind...

One thing I don't understand in those endless grinding quests is the reason why is the drop rate so low. Before TBC, most quests with low drop rate had a good reason for it.
For example, you had to gather 10 perfect skins, which are rare becouse other were simply not perfect.
In 'Keeping Up Appearances' you have to gather 10 lynx pelts.
What is the explanation for the low drop rate?
Lynxes which didn't drop pelts, don't have skin or what?

Those quests wouldn't be so frustrating if the drop rate was for example 3 times higher, but the requirements would be 3 times higher as well.

What an annoying quest... to give you an idea of how ridiculously low the drop rate is on pelts, during the course of this quest I picked up four green BoEs and one blue BoE. All told, I think I spent about an hour or so trying to collect all the pets. Your mileage may vary...

this a total waste of time! if you're in need of xp by killing mobs (big cats that is) this is for you. Drop rate really sucks! about 10%.. cant be more than that... i think Blizz wants you take actually go every sqaure inch of this stupid dome so you can see and admire their beautiful creation... not worth it.

This is one of those collection quests that seems to require a great deal of luck - and possibly, a great deal of patience. For me thus far it has been the latter, 6 pelts in about 20 minutes, but I'm going to continue.

Got up to six pelts after about 30 minutes... then I didn't get one for over 20 kills, so I tried abandoning the quest and picking it up again.

Only to discover that all my pelts were automatically trashed when I abandoned the quest. Great. Back to the beginning...

Gettings lots of lovely skins though... if they only threw in a bit of clefthoof hide it wouldn't be that bad =)

I got my first pelt on my second kill, and my second pelt on my fourth kill.
I started killing them at the north side of the dome (44,49), so maybe the droprate is better up there?

Well, in a word - yes. But, for hunters, this really isn't all that bad, especially if you want to boost a ranged weapon skill. There are lots and lots of Lynx around, and the spawn rate is more like mice than cats - so much that even though two other players were farming at the same time, there were more than enough to go around (in fact, I got jumped twice by spawns!). Two thoughts that may help...

First, take all of the EcoDome quests from the givers around the camp. Looking for the "Diagnostic Equipment" (if you don't look up the coords), gathering the flowers ("New Opportunities"), and killing Crocolisks ("Deal with the Saboteurs") breaks up the monotony.

Second, keep the "big picture" in mind. I completed this quest, along with the other three, in just shy of two circuits around the EcoDome - and in the process, levelled my pet and gained "friendly' status with the Consortium, which you'll find handy when you get to Stormspire. All 4 quests took me slightly over an hour - though I did kill lots of Lynx and went through ammo like it was Halloween candy - but after all, that's not so bad.

I killed a load of them in a small area as I picked the flowers. No drops. Went back as they started to respawn and they all dropped almost everytime :)

I have to agree, the drop rate sucks.

The only reason i did this was because it was the only quest in Netherstorm I hadn't done!
If you're a skinner at least you get the hide while your waiting for the drops.

From what I've read here I think they've greatly increased the drop rate. It was 43% for me...10 loots from 23 kills!

Yea the drop rate is horrible. As someone else pointed out it seems to be especially bad on the west side. The north and east is where they started to drop for me.

On a side note: I think its funny that so many people post on other quests "man this one is so easy!" then #$%^& when one takes a bit of time.

Just finished this quest, and lemme tell you it sucks. The droprate is horrible. I gained two full non-rested bars of XP at lvl 69, just killing these things. Skip this quest unless you're bored out of your mind...

There are pleanty of other quests to be doing in Netherstorm...I'd advise doing those instead.

I went 10 kills without one but by the end I had averaged a 30% droprate.

I also got two greens and a green gem from them. Definently worth my time.

Shauly Pore in the Eco Dome. Mostly everyone is soooo cheesed about the drop rate, that no one noticed - or cared to notice, afterwards that this is another play on a movie. Pauly Shore in Bio Dome. Has that "other" Baldwin brother in it.
The Ripfang Lynx are all over the place in the dome. As soon as you walk thru the shield ur gunna trip on one.

I'd like to enlist your help, <class>. We've been asked to use non-goblin agents whenever possible.

What I want you to do is bring me a number of ripfang lynx pelts in the guise of a hunter. You can find the lynxes all over Eco-Dome Midrealm.
