This quest was very challenging. I've tried several groups and the only one that I was able to take him down with was mostly composed of high dps. The strat we used was just to start dps early and use the captain as our tank. We had our only healer heal the captain while overyone else was on boss. I'm not sure what power he gains from those adds he spawns but we just downed them real fast when they popped.

It's possible to solo as a holy paladin, just keep the npcs up (esp the captain) and the NPCs will dps the boss down for you. The dps near the end gets really slow however as npcs start dying so watch ur mana.

In theory then any healer should be able to solo this.

Tried as 70 mage, was not possible.
Once he kills Captain Saaed he turns on the healers, then on you. His shadow spirals hit for 2k, and he uses them alot. If you can't heal youself or glitch him somehow so he doesn't use shadow spiral, this is not possible as a mage.

agreed when under 20% he spams shadowspiral for 2k and you can't get around the corner to L.O.S. it.
I tried it 3 or 4 times but all i was doing was wasting pots.

prot warrior can solo this.

I had the npcs solo him to 60% before they all died. I spell reflected his shadow volleys and run out of range to bandage while tactical mastery ticked until I had enough rage for another spell reflect.

I took him down from 60% to 30% before guildies came over to finish him off. Bring lots of bandages if you want to try this.

As above poster - confirmed working. You can definitely solo this as a ranged class.
Dropped my totems and started my lightning bolt spam - he dropped fairly quickly to 35% - Super mana pot - dropped to 20% then it was slooow damage.
Bring more than 1 mana pot and definitely burn his last 10% down as he does fire 2k Shadow Spirals at you even if you are ranged (He fires 1 every 7 seconds or so)

I tried to solo as a warrior -- impossible.

I held him off forever with bandages and spell reflects and finally had another group coming to do the quest help me finish it.

VERY VERY easy fight for a Warlock of any kind. I am affliction and I simply kept him dotted with Siphon Life, Curse of Shadow, Corruption, and Unstable Affliction and I Drained Life until my nightfall procced, then I Shadowbolted him. Repeated this until all the other protectorate guys died at around 10% of his health, at which time he turned on me and started using his Shadow Spirals which deal about 2k damage. I simply used Shadow Ward and I only took half damage and I was outhealing his damage thanks to Siphon Life and Drain Life.

Very easy but somewhat long fight.

Yeah, soloed this as a 70 Shadow priest. Smacked up the NPCs a bit, and had to mana pot/desperate prayer/shadowfiend. I was not aware of the aoe at first, so i barely soloed this (like <100 hp left).
I probably would have done better if i had just stood closer to the walls.

yup, had a hunter join me (warrior) tonight to do this, he stood in the doorway and just shot the elite all the time. Note that the healers in the group that go up with you will also heal any melee that are engaed (unfortunately they dont heal enough to cover melee damage take).

So take a ranged DPS and kick back relax ;)

I don't know when they changed it, but as of 2/26/07 patch 2.0.8 you can no longer heal the NPCs that assist you.

Just fought him, me as a prot warrior with a hunter. He didn't range attack us until 25%, then he would occasionally use Shadow Spiral. Spell Reflect and have the hunter attack while I ran back then the hunter would FD out of the next cast. At 5% he would do a knockback effect that would throw me up into the air a short distance, more annoying than anything, no fall damage; afterwards he would use Shadow Sprial.

You really only need 2 people and can do this very simply if they both have the quest. Have one talk with Captain Saeed and go up the hill. Work Dim over (from ranged) until almost all of the NPCs are dead. Then have the other player fly down and talk with the Captain again and bring him up again. We did this quest in about 8 minutes.

It is dead easy to 2-man this. Just stay in the doorway while the mobs fight eachother and have another person send the captain back up when he spawns. Just don't leave combat! This might take a while, but worth it, atleast for me as a pala.

Very very easy to 2-man, especially if you have a healer. I didn't and it was fine though, just kind of close.

me (70 dw fury war) and a 70 mage buddy of mine went in. I basically stood around shooting with my gun until his adds spawned, then I killed those, and just the time I spent in the room killing them got me to 40%, so I ran off and bandaged. The mage just sat in the doorway the whole time frostbolting, when dim was at 30% I ran in to try and melee him a bit. BAD IDEA.

Melee classes, just do yourselves a favor and hang back. The corpse run is long.

He hit me for 3000, followed by a 2000 shadow spiral. I didn't even get one attack in. it was just "BOOM".

so yeah, ranged could definately solo, although it wouldn't hurt to bring a healer along for the last 15%. The last avenger died around 12, and I had been dead since then, so the mage was soloing. Once the shadow spirals started going his way, we got nervous.

BUT 1 evocate, 2 mana gems, 1 mana pot, and 1 bandage later, the mage was at 400hp and 300 mana and dim died and i got my pretty new tank trinket. :-)

For paladins who are having trouble deciding whether to go for the healing legs or for the trinket this should make the thinking easier.

The quest Undercutting the Competition (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10165) gives the reward Consortium Plated Leggings (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29342) which with some halfway decent gems socketed is just as good for healing as the starcallers so feel free to take the trinket as that is much harder to replace.

I was able to solo him as a 70 frost mage w/ elemental. Instead of using evocation I used invisiblity to get out of combat. As soon as I left combat I sat and drank and waitied for full mana. All the NPC's died but I was still able to take him down. With Inviso and Evocate I still have 3k mana when I was done. Took about 6min

Soloable as a 70 mage (Arc/Frost) as mentioned above. One thing that I noticed is that it's advisable to kill the first mob to the right after entering the building BEFORE engaging the capitan to start fighting. If not, it will kill the capitans minions much faster than the boss alone and you'll probably have to do it all over again. The mobs in the back can be left alone since they wont aggro.

The range of the bosses Shadowbombing AoE seems to be 30 yards.

Soloed this as a 70 holy paladin in mediocre gear. You can only heal the captain so I did just that till my mana ran dry which left Dimensius at about 30%.

Using the little outcrop thats in the hallway you first enter through, I hid behind that and let my mana regen, then when I had enough I'd run out and use excorcism, holy shock (divine favor when it's up) and then run in close and judge Seal of Command. Don't get in melee range or he'll smack you around hardcore. <20% I added Hammer of wrath to my round of attacks.

Once I used these four attacks I'd run back to the hallway and hide so I could bandage/mana regen. This hit and run method only took him down 1-2% each time so it's very time consuming and I used probably 15 heavy netherweave bandages instead of healing with my own mana.

Very doable however as long no one interferes with you.

Blizzards fault for making him unable to attack you yet stay agroed in place.

Soloed without problems as a 70 Shadow Priest. Just stay max range, mind blast / VT / dot him. Don't use mind flay otherwise you will get too close. It took about 7 mins to bring him down.

Just wanted it to be known that even warriors can solo this, it takes time but it's possible.

use Spell reflect and some bullets.

And that it is late night or really early morning, and you don't need to go to the toilet for a while.
Spell reflect hitting dimensius for 2005 dmg. And he has around 250k, but your fellow npc will get him to around 150k, so that's like only 75 spell reflects. And Oh you dont gain rage when you spell reflect, so have fun.

Just a note of warning - taking him down solo (tauren hunter) to about 23% when he started sending out some green and black squiggly bolts that hit even if I was in the lobby and out of LoS. Result: dead. I ran back and he was up to 40% so I carried on. This time no such attacks and downed him with the help of an ally mage.

I duoed this yesterday with a hunter friend (I'm a holy pally) and it was total cake.

First, follow the NPCs up to the manaforge; let them clear the voidwalkers and shriekers for you rather than trying to fight through. Once you give the signal to engage, Captain Saeed will tank while the other ethereals DPS. They're not healable, but Saeed is, and has about 40-50k health. He's buffable with pally buffs; don't know about others.

Our strategy was simple: stand in the manaforge entrance corridor out of range of Dimensius's ranged attacks, but within healing range of Saeed. I kept Saeed healed (required 1 mana pot; it's a long fight) while the hunter DPSed the boss down. At no time did either of us pull agro or take any damage.

I suspect this could be *easily* soloed by any healer capable of ranged attacks.

Tried this now as a felguard specced warlock at level 70. Sacrificed my voidwalker for HP regen, and just went for the kill.
As I didn't have a pet up, I had about 750 shadowdamage when I engaged combat.
I failed horribly, 17% HP and I died. He is tough, but more than likely soloable. I forgot to bring healing potions, and had only 1 bandage during the 5 or so minutes the fight lasted.
Another one of the quests I like to call "strategy and smart thinking" over direct "brute force".

Pretty easy as a warrior if you have patience. Just stay at end of corridor shooting him until he starts Shadow Spirals. Then just run back round corner to bandage when needed, let rage tick up to 100 (Anger Management rqd) and run back to Spell Reflect.

Very handy fight for lvling ranged weapons. I actually ran out of combat a couple of times and let fight fail to get Throwing skill up. 300+ in a couple of runs easily.

Solo'd this as a 70 Marks Hunter. (Apr 12, 2007)

I stayed in the doorway and steady shot weaved him down. Had to FD drink once while some npc's are still up to be safe. Not sure if he resets if nothing is fighting him in meleeing range. Mod said he had about 277k+ health. When I got him down to the last 3k he was able to throw a couple nasty things at me even though I was at max range. One on one after the npc's died he lasted about 15 minutes.

Just finished solo on Archimonde (Apr 13, 2007). 70 Priest 29/32 Disc/Holy

Pretty easy actually. Heal the Cpt every now and then, rest of the time SW:P and wand him. Took about 20 minutes or so. Once he started casting I would take two hits, shield then heal, repeat except with bandage. Reapply DoT and keep wanding. Burned 5 Super Mana pots and used Shadowfiend 3 times.

Just stay at max range.

its so easy with two players:)
On player stay in aggro range, the other can get the captain back when he died!
He come back with another group and the dps can start again, first time 25% next turn with new captain and group teh other 25% without using any pots or healing.

I might have been lucky but I soloed him as a 70 hunter. No real strats really, tried him 4 times, got him last go. Shooting at max range and used all my cooldowns and trinket (abacus of violent odds) + rapid fire combo and reuse both/each whenever it's up and just spammed arcane and steady shot (and probably gear helps as well). On 3rd try I managed to get him down to 32% before his ranged attack killed me - i figured why not try again.

4th attempt I just started shooting him, and right after all the NPC dies (around 25% this time) I ran behind the wall to regen some mana. At 50% mana I went in again, started shooting him again. Surprisingly he didn't shoot me until he was at 4-5% - at this point my mana was very low so I just auto-attacked him, and whenever my mana is enough (didn't use any health/mana pots), I shot arcane and steady shot again. He only shot me twice until I finally killed him. I have some mp5 gear so that might've helped as well (Gloves of Quickening and some BL have mana regen).

I soloed this on my fury warrior using spell reflect, as others did. When the thing died after about an hour I did not get credit. Looks like there is another person who had the same problem. I paged a gm and got the same old crap- the GM said I must have been in "an invisible raid" and that it happens all the time. Probably the biggest load of bs I've heard from a GM. Pretty much this quest is buggy and I would suggest not soloing it. It's not worth wasting your time and bandages just to not get credit.

I hope this or the other guy's post gets bumped up so others see this and don't get as frustrated as I did.

As a 70 warlock, I soloed him a few minutes ago. I died the first time because I was life tapping too often to keep up the mana I needed to continue the DPS. The second time around, I used demonic sacrifice on my felhound and basically had no trouble.

His shadow spiral CAN be spell reflected. It is a very good technique because it can take him down alot of health. Killed with 70 druid (healer but in balance gear and balance specced) 69 pala (off healer) 70 frost spec mage, 70 warlock and me (prot specced warrior) in full red gear.

Pretty easy if you ask me and spell reflect helped alot with the killing.

Just did this in a 3 man group. Balance druid (me), Resto druid and a mage. Just nuked him down didn't use any pots, mage evo'ed and I innervated, Resto druid just healed captain for a bit. Seems to be glitchy after 2.1 and fell through the map twice before we got it to work.

Soloed this as a lvl 70 Paladin, just make sure to keep the Captain alive and everything should be fine. The leggings from the rewards are very good, I recommend to get a Silver Spellthread on them. Hard to find better rare healing leggings than these.

Confirmed, still working after patch 2.1.0; Myself (70 Pally) & 70 Warlock, both a bit undergeared since we had -just- hit 70, were able to duo this by just standing in the hallway & using ranged attacks. I'm holy & he's demonology, if it matters.

I just tried this quest solo on my holy paladin, and I got him to around 35% just by healing the commander. Once the commander died, I attemped using exorcism and holy shock to take him down slowly and surely, but it seemed that his shadow bolt (the one that moves fairly slow) now shoots through the walls. That = dead me. /facepalm

Update: Just 3-manned it with myself (holy paladin), a mage, and a warlock.

Trick for mages.

I didn't try to solo this elite, I was with a Holy Paladin. He was healing the captain and I was DPSing. However, after 5 minutes, my mana gems were on cooldown, so was Evocation. I tried to use Invisibility, so I went out of combat and I could drink.
The elite didn't reset.

You can try if you solo him, although I don't promise anything.

NPCs died at 30%, so what? autoshot/rank1 multishot/steady shotted him to 0% and found out he had no loot to drop :-(

EDIT: got hit by some knockout hit that hit me 1k every time (1000 shadow damage and throw off) like 3 times, 2 times at start and one at 2%
at 3% he started to use his ranged (shadow spiral or something like that) nuke at me, first time in fight, hits for 2-3k shadow damage.

As a MM hunter, i soloed him down to 25%, by then however all Captain Saed´s little helpers were dead, so he started attacking me, even though i was at max range. Probably fixed it in a patch?

I´d say get a friend to help you with this, then it should be easy, if you are ranged.

Just soloed this as a 70 Affliction warlock. Stand out of 30 yards, and you'll never get hit at all. Even if all the protectorate die, he still just stands there and you can keep killing.

Just did it with feraldruid (me) in healing gear and 68 destrolock spamming immolate-incinerate. I tried him solo but at 36% the adds despawned and he started hitting boss like truck and I went oom that way.
But with lock, 'What is this oom you're talking about?' lifebloom few stacks, innervate when low (only managed to use once before he died) and ezmode :)

They fixed him in last patch though, with his big bolts ignoring line of sight so I was unable to los and regen and then moonfire-wrath him to death like initially planned.

Still able to get done solo by ranged DPS as of the 22nd June. Tried it as a demo lock and ended up just sacrificing my Felhunter to get the mana regen, then putting a curse of shadows onto Dimensius and dropping corruption and immolate when needed. He'll drop health down quickly to start with due to the Ethereals helping you but after that it's a bit of a slow process. Take a couple of potions and some bandages and so long as you can shoot you should be able to do this fine :)

dont send your pet in as you need it alive for beastial wrath to work, use aspect of viper and do full nuke rotation while popping your cooldowns as they recover

feign death when you need to drink and eat, if you do FD make sure you use serpent sting so the boss doesn't reset.

stand in the dooway under the arch so you dont receive fall damage when he levitates you.

i nuked him down to 25% witht he captain still alive, he threw a nuke at me but i resisted it. this must have bugged him as he lost targets and didnt do anything from 25% to 1%. he just sat there not targeting anything

I tried solo, but could only heal captain so long. Demon was still at 35-40%, then he despawned immediately!!!

Try solo #2 - tried to help with the fight, but that just ened up interrupting my heals of captain, so not very useful

Try 3 - With mage. Cake. Captain was at 60% health when demon died. I burned 2 mana pots keeping mana up. Used bandages on myself and mage when we got hit by stray aoe, and on captain when mana was low/gone. Not sure what mage did as far as pots go.

As ret pally, I change into my heal gear, for +687 healing.

Soloed as a Fire Mage. Very easy at 41 yards :P but take bandages as he will often throw you in the air. I had to use 2 mana gems and a mana pot, quite a long fight, but easy.

Duoed this as a 70 Protection Paladin with a 70 Destro lock. We stood in the hallway, and I put my minuscule healing gear on, and healed the NPCs to keep them alive as long as I could. Then just worried about keeping the lock alive. Took a while, but got the quest done without too much difficulty.

At about 5% he started targeting me with spells that hit about 1k-2k each, as a frost mage I narrowly avoided a killing blow with both an ice block and a lucky resist, make sure to conjure more than one mana gem for mages doing this <_<

If you are doing this in a group don't try tanking it, let the NPC tank.

I tried and got hit for 5k shadow dmg... with only 7.5k HP I went down pretty fast. (Prot pally in greens)

I got a battle rez and proceeded to die again immediately after accepting from some kind of AOE.

The rest of the group just DPS'ed down the boss, no need to even heal the NPC.

I can confirm this is soloable. Managed to get this done as a lvl 69 Frost Mage. Used Elemental to hold aggro whilst I bandaged or cast Evocation. As stated, most NPCs (in my case all) will be dead when you get him to ~50%. At this point he doesnt do much, and if you can attack from just outside the main chamber he doesn't touch you. When you get him down to around 15% he will start to fire shadow spirals at you which hit for 2k each. When these came I Ice Block'd, Ice Barrierd or had my Elemental take the beating by using Invisibility to lose aggro. Works quite well. From this point you're just trying to kill him before you run out of means to recoup mana.

Yet another solo.

Healed the Captain. Got distracted by adds and let him die. Then it started to suck. Resto shaman with elemental gear on. Took about 20 mins. You can back out and get out of combat and drink. You will still get hit with 2k shadow spirals whenever he wants to. I drank like 10 times throughout the fight.

Would have been easy just healing him. FYI Earth Shield doesn't proc when the Captain gets hit.

Bring pots and water and if you're shaman... use totems. Some times he will focus fire on your totems which saves you about 2K damage per. Grounding Totem will ground that spell. So spam those.

Man that was a LOT of lightning bolts. =D Love the healer chestpiece too.

Very easy as a 70 lock with gladiator/FSW/spellstrike and PVP gear. I thought I may need to go back to Shatt and get my damage gear on, but I dropped this guy without losing hardly any health or mana. Had 900 shadow damage. Around 1130-1140 if I brought my other stuff (no buffs, no trinkets). No group needed. Just stayed at max range, and when he started shooting shadowbolts at me, I just used my shadow ward as well as drain life and I was back in business.

Well, Believe it or not I just soloed this. Lvl 70 Elemental Shaman.
Stay right back. Let the army you start with distract him.
I dropped wraith totem, mana totem (important), and wraith or air totem and just kept dropping those 3 totems when they expired.
The Key is too stay back and keep lightning bolting him. The army dies just under half way health.
Thats ok tho. Also when the spawns come up, they look like they are regenerating him (IGNORE THEM). Concentrate on simply lightning bolt. You'll get thrown up in the air but just keep yourself healed. Keep that mana totem going, drink your potions.healing and mana.
It took me 2 tries to do this and the only thing I did different the 2nd time was dropping that mana totem as well.

This no longer works solo; at around 33% he starts a ranged attack if you stand in the hallway that can hit you even when you run to the entrance of the forge. He also despawns at that point so getting him all the way to 33% was for nothing :(

Just had an oddly easy time soloing him as a warrior, stood back and threw stuff at him and the NPCs didn't die, taking him down to dead. Didn't get the quest complete though, so maybe you have to do a certain amount of DPS :

Solo'd as a Marks/Surv hunter.

Turned off growl on pet so he was able to DPS without healing him down to 50%. Kept mark on and autoshooting and just steady shots when mana came up. Burn trinkets and rapid fire when up also.

Took me 2 rapid fire cooldowns, so roughly 6 mins or so to kill him. Had 1 npc left.

Also healing the captian works and buffing him too.

That easy. Keep the Captain alive and he'll do all the damage. Do it well and you'll even have the weenie NPC's alive to help healbot the captain. Easy as pie.

Possibly fixed so you cant solo it anymore (01/november/2007), i was sitting at 36 yards after everything else had died/despawned and he started throwing "shadow spirals" at me, quite a long cast, quite a long travel time, and after it hits you the dmg doesnt come for a fe secs, but hits for 2k a piece.
walked back a little to i guess 45 or so yards, threw a couple more, than i left combat and he despawned.

this happaned twice, i cannot find a range where he doesnt shoot them or you stay in combat, without running in, throwing down a fire totem, and running out perhaps, copping shadow spirals in the meantime.

Just soloed this as a 70 destruction lock. Probably a lot easier for an affliction lock though, just DoT and stand back. Also enslaved one of the Void Shriekers around him for fun. Good easy quest-chain if you're trying for Consortium rep! :)

I soloed this as a resto druid: I put on as many of my pieces of moonkin gear as I could while keeping as much mana regen as possible and just spammed Starfire on him. Lifebloom easily outhealed his shadow spirals, and I could just take a break and let my spirit do its thing when I ran out of mana. Easy, and not that long.

Solo'd him as a 69 affliction warlock. I stood in the doorway and kept dots up, while draining life. I believe he bugged out on me though, so it was easier than it should have been. I stood in the doorway, just out of the room, and after all of the NPCs died he just stood there and let me DPS him down from 30% to 0.

Superbly easily soloed as a level 70 Survival/MM hunter. Stayed at max (41yd) range the entire time didn't take any damage.. killed Dimensius just as the last NPC died (and my DPS is very, very sub-par).

I have 39 mp5 (from gear) and I was using aspect of the viper.. I only barely ran out of mana and the fight only took a few minutes.

Done this with an Elem Shaman and MS warrior
With Elem shaman the strategy is simple
Keep lightining bolt nuke up

With MS warrior it's gonna be tough thought
before the battle begins be sure to have bandages potions elixirs and of course a shield ( i had crest of the void or whatever is called the shield from mana tonbs ) if u need a shield block
Captain and his troopers will deal around 30 - 40 % dmg to the boss u need to deal the rest
Me (as MS-axe warrior ) managed almost to finish the quest
with approximately 10 hp left out of 10k
It is a group quest for 2 melee or one ranged
not a 5 man group quest...

He seems to be a bit bugged, only sometimes sending out his shadow spirals. A hunter and I tried it twice, first time failed because we didn't know what we were doing, he was casting after 50%. Second time, he just stood there the whole time. didn't cast anything the entire fight after getting rid of the captain and his men. As a warrior, you basically are limited to using your ranged weapon and spell reflect. Meele is suicide with this guy.

If you're not solo, after the captain dies, the person who didn't talk to the captain at first, can go back down the hill and wait for him to respawn and bring a second wave up the hill. Tried it with a couple guildies and it worked great.

Solo'd this quest as a Balance Druid with a few kara healing parts and some blue damage gear, with about 634 +damage.

I nuked him in moonkin form from 100% > 50%, popped an Innervate and nuked him down again to about 13% when I went oom. Moonfire DoT and Insect Swarm did the job with my mana regain till 5% when he started Shadow Spirals. Used Innervate again and switched out using Regrowth and Lifebloom and finished off with Wrath spams.

I did not heal the captain or his soldiers at all, they died around 20%.

Soloed yesterday as a fresh lvl70 restoration shaman. Had to do it twice, didn't get kill credit in the first attempt.

In both attempts I stood at the end of the hallway, almost in the room. In the second succesful attempt, Captain died when Dimensius was at about 10% and I used LB to bring him down. Due to this, I did way more damage on Dimensius in the second attempt, maybe that's why I got kill credit. Grounding totem worked on the Shadow Spirals, so no problem there.

Done with 2 healing classes, both healed captain until he killed Dimensius.

Speak to Saeed and his army will rush up to the mountain; follow him quickly. They will slay anything in their path and wait before the forge until you're ready. Speak again to begin the fight.

In the end, our mana ran out and the captain died when Dim was at 20%. We thought we gonna die too. But actually, one Protector survived and wasn't taking much damage at all. Me and the priest nuked him with spells at 10% mana; regenerate - cast 2 spells, regenerate - cast 2 spells etc.

In the end he died.

I was rather surprised to discover that this quest is still solo-able.

I went in with my level 70 Affliction Warlock, around 600 spell damage and just thought I would give it a try. I remember soloing this months ago on my druid by keeping up the NPCs with healing.

Anyhow, all the NPCs died when he was around 15% - but he didn't turn on me, so I could stand in the hallway and just keep dotting and nuking. I used my Healthstone and had 10% hp left when he fell or so, only due to continous lifetapping during the fight to regain mana.

Obviously as a warlock the mana source is a lot higher than other casters, but in theory, as mentioned, any ranged (atleast with the increased range in the talent tree) should be able to solo this guy.

Both times i killed him before the captain died and an avenger was left. The third time, everyone died and it took almost 3x as long, i had him down to 10% but then he killed me. Whatever bug there was that allowed this to be soloable has apparently been fixed. You can NOT get out of range of his attacks. I was able to heal the captain til about 25-30% of Dimensius' health, but then he starts shooting these squiggly ranged attacks at you that hit for 2k each about every 4 sec. i couldn't heal myself and do any sustained dps on him at the same time. You can NOT run out of LoS either.

And in regards to someone who said they ran out of combat to drink, you can't do that, because he will reset.

I soloed this quest as a lvl 70 BE spriest.
The captain is at 60.7, 32.1

I went ahead and buffed all of them up before I started the quest. I made sure to give the whole group stam ( 79 ) and shadow protection ( 70 )
I let the Captain gain aggro before I attacked unfortunatly i had a huge lag not long after and didn't come back for atleast a full minute. The captain was dead but there were still several npcs alive. Dimensius was at about 60% but since I was staying in the hallway, I had no problem with aggro.
I used 3-4 mana potions and tried using my shadowfiend, only to have him die after only hitting him twice.
Even once all Npcs died, he still didn't target me and just continued to use his Aoe. I never left combat in fear of failing the quest.
When i was out of mana and my mana pot was on a cd i just wanded him. I made sure that everytime I had enough mana I put up VT and then SW:P. Once he got down to 2% he began doing that shadow spell so I would run out of range and turn around and run back.
I was very surprised that I was able to complete this alone especially since I lagged and was gone for some of the fight.

I think that any ranged class can easily complete this quest with a couple of mana potions. Melee classes will have it alot harder since all he pretty much does is a aoe spell that does around 2k every two seconds.

Ensure that you do ~30% of the total damage to Dimensius; otherwise you will not "tag" him, and when he dies it does not count for you whether you're in the building or not when he dies.

I confirmed this with a GM via ticket after soloing this twice as a 70 Holy Paladin, healing the Captain and only occasionally damaging Dimensius, and failing to complete the quest both times.

basically me and the mage just stodd in the hall way in max range the whole time and fireballing(mage) and dagger tossing (me)

around 65%, i ran in with adrenaline rush, did some ss, toss in rupture, more ss, toss in expose armor, ss more, rupture, pop sprint, and run out and just keep tossing dagger from there.

took us no more than 10 mins, and when we killed him, we still had like 5 or so of those npc's left. =)

NPCs took her down to 40%, I hid behind the wall in the tunnel to bug, bandage, wait for mana to regen, go back out and spammed lightning bolt until oom, rinse and repeat. Super easy, but took a long time (>20 mins) but eventually she went down and quest completed. Easily soloable by any spellcasting/ranged class.

Dunno if they changed this guy but couldn't solo as an affliction lock, he starts spamming Shadow Spiral eventually and it hits for 2000 everytime and he has way to much HP to keep up Life Drain and Dark Pact/Life Tap + dots. Couldn't LoS it in the hallway either.

EDIT: Nvm, just soloed it using the above technique, very hectic but he only started doing the Shadow Spiral when at 2% so maybe I got lucky. Had Imp out on passive for Dark Park. Didn't even use a HS.

He's easy soloable as a lvl 70 holy paladin.
You just need to take the time.
Had Saeed and his man doing around 40% of the hp, rest I did myself. Just use some LoS to regen your mana and heal up again.

Myself (70 frost mage) and a buddy (70 rogue) took him down with no deaths and all the guys alive at the end...sort of...

Both people talk and get credit follow him up let him clear the way. The NPCs will take him down to 50% more than easy. Myself blasting the hell out of him to gain tons of aggro.
Rogue runs back to the quest giver and abandons. The guys come running back, I hide behind the wall keeping him bugged on me so that he doesn't reset.
Rogue talks to the guy and sends the army back up. I come out from hiding and we blast him down again.

Very, very, very easy with this strat. You can do this with any class with 2 people just need 1 to stay behind and bug.

Both of us got credit for the kill in the end. Can take 10 mins or less this way and no deaths.

Sellivens way worked for me as well Feb. 5th with Druid 69 and Mage 70.

Towards the end of the battle at about 15% he started to shoot out an attack that did 1k dmg but as soon as he started doing that our npcs had just gotten back up to fight with us.

Solo'd last night. Demonology Warlock. Kept the Voidwalker out for Soul Link and to sacrifice when needed. Kept him dotted and Life Drained to keep my hp up. Improved Fel Armor, Blood Fury, and trinkets helped buff the drain. Popped Shadow Ward everytime it came up. When I started having trouble keeping up with the damage, I sacced the VW and ran out of LOS to bandage, resummon the VW, and reconjure a HS. Took 3 attempts due to Alliance ganking, but I got him down.

Shield reflect everytime it was up a few heals here and there, shadow prot up.He switchs part of the way through to aoe shadow rain,could reflect up to 3 at a time it would seem and damage him. Long fight. Fought the npc for aggro at the beginning to keep him alive for dps. 14k ac melee around 1k to 1400. Shield reflect was the key.

Solo'd as a 70 demonology Warlock. No LoS tricks. Just keep Corruption, CoA, and Immolate up on Dimensius and Drain Life in the meantime. Activate Shadow Ward whenever it's off cooldown. Use spell power trinkets/abilities to taste. Life Tap as needed. Throw in a Shadow Bolt when Nightfall procs. Don't bother sending in your pet.

I was at full health for pretty much the entire fight except for the occasional hit for 2000 and Life Taps. Kept waiting for him to really kick in, but it never happened. At under 10% HP he seemed to hit a little harder, but nothing a Healthstone and potion couldn't overcome.

Sad really, but it was fun marching up the hill with Saeed and his army.

Edit: I should add that Warlocks can't use any of the quest rewards, so it's kind of a moot point.

Aff Warlock lvl 70. I was able to solo him by dot dot dot drainlife. He sometimes throws you upward and you get a fair fall damage. To avoid it I was dpsing him inside one of the mini arcs in the room.
Very easy boss and he has a lot of life.

ok - I figured what the heck, worth a try after helping two other groups of friends do this quest without having it myself. stood in the doorway and lobbed more fire and arcane at this guy than I thought possible. Bandaged Saeed a couple times but decided I didn't want to mess with the spawns and just focused on throwing stuff.

Kept going.... kept going..... Re-mana'd as needed. Eeeked out some mana at the end until pots cooldown was up and then took him down the rest of the way.

What a great time! Wish the rewards were a little more mage-friendly but I'll take doing it over not being able to any day of the week.

This little big guy is very tough.

Here the Tactics: Keep Saeed alive, otherwise it won't be possible to manage this event. So bring at least one healer and two damage dealers.

Saeed himself is heal- and buffable, his friends are not. Let your healers always keep an eye on Saeed and let the other party members use bandadges.

Dimensius hits for about 2500 Shadow Dmg, does a nasty kind of knockback that knocks you into the air for 1000 Shadow Dmg and at 50% he spawns 3 voidwalkers and shadow bombs are raining from the air. At this point focus your dmg on the Voidwalkers, the have do die ASAP. Otherwise Saeeds healer and friends will die.

Keep an eye on your aggro, Saeed does have some kind of taunt, but he doesn't keep aggro very well. If you have got the aggro, just go some steps backwards, this is very similar to Ragnaros. Dimensius does not move, so if Saeed is killed just run out of the forge.

We did it with two druids and my rogue at LvL 70, result: Both druids OOM, Saeed and Dimensius down. I tanked the last 2 percents with evasion :)

Those pants are so nice.

Im slightly frustrated with this because the army of Ethereals would not engage the elite. They just stood back as we hacke away at him. I was in a group of 4 and we could not bring him down without the aid of the army. I know it seems strange, I was told this is a very easy fight yet it seemed impossible. Perhaps it is sumhow bugged?

I attempted this as 70 mage... got him to about 35% then all of the friendly guys you rode in with died.... i got to a range of about 35 yards and just belted him with frostbolts for the rest of his life.... he died... soloed easily.

It took 2 of us ( shadow priest and resto shammy) to kill this dude after the Captain and his crew got him down to half. I ran out of mana and died once but once i rezzed, it was cake after that. I just did this quest and was surprised to see how easy it really was for warlocks. I didn't even get hit!

Put 2 talent points in Grim Reach and you're ready to go. Because you have a 20% increase of spellrange and Dimensius hasn't and can't move, you can nuke him with Affliction spells without having to worry about your health or mana. Just stay out of his range, but within your range.

70 Balance Druid, BM 70 Hunter 2-boxed with a 70 Disc Priest just did this fight. And IT WAS A LOT OF FUN!

I disagree with ImpalaBaelgun = the priest kept an eye on Saeed and I kept regen'ing & healing the other avengers as needed. Both priest & I buffed the Captain & all the avengers before starting the quest.

I used an innervate before the fight to get the priest up to full mana before the "big guy". I used two mana pots and 1 innervate during the fight. The hunter also had his heal/mana regen drums going. I know the hunter ran out of mana so I'm guessing he did his thing. I also kept Demensiuous dotted with Faerie Fire, Moonfire & Insect Swarm.

We lost the hunter's pet first thing. And we had two Avenger's left.
I repeat... A LOT OF FUN! Can't wait to help the guildies!

Managed to solo this as a level 68 holy Paladin it took a LONG time though and i felt a little dirty about doing it using a little trickary(using his LOS and the fact he doesn't move to whittle down his last 20% or so hp) but i really wanted the leggings and noone would help me :-S.

Soloed this as an Affliction warlock. Just dot him up while the NPC's fight him, and kill the adds that stand around him. Then when the last NPC is about to die, refresh dots, and run into one of the 'tunnels' or halways or whatever you choose to call them. He will not shoot at you, because you're out of sight, but wont reset. Then just run forwards, throw up a instant dot, and run behind the edge inside the hallway. And keep on doin' it. Took me a loooong time, but he finally went down. Bandages are recommended in case he hits you :p

I had a fun time doing this quest with a holy priest from my guild. We knew absolutely nothing about the quest, but decided to try it anyway despite the warning that it should be done in a group of 5.

Dimensius soon killed all the ethereal fighters, but that was ok. The priest kept healing the last living Protectorate Avenger.

I was an arms warrior with pathetic gear and pretty much got killed in 4 hits if I tried to go in there to attack it. All I did was kill the voidwalkers that channel to him, then I hid in the hallway and bandaged the priest in between the shadow attacks Dimensius threw around. Used 7 Heavy Netherweave Bandages total... so the priest could save mana not having to heal himself.

It took us half an hour, but we did it. I can't remember why the priest said he healed the Avenger instead of Saeed, but we failed the first attempt at killing Dimensius when he was healing Saeed instead.

This is such a weird elite, I tried solo for fun, 1st try I brought him to 9% (I'm a mage BTW), I think: 'Wow, he's easy! Lets go again now I know whats smartest to do!' 2nd try when I nuke the voids that channel him he kills me & the etherals at 59%, and 3rd try 46%....

Soloed him as healing spec priest, took me 19 minutes to wand him to death but i did it. Great success!

While Captain Saaed was alive, I just healed him and took out the adds with wand/SWP. Dimensius does pretty good damage to melee it seems, so eventually the captain died. However, he barely does any damage to ranged... Furthermore, apparently his damage is completely avoidable by standing in the hallway or something (I just read about it in the other posts). Nevertheless, I just kept Renew up and SWP on him, while wanding all the time... Took about 7 minutes.

Dimensius is located at 62,40, inside Manaforge: Ultris.

There's a 'trick' to this quest. Don't kill the adds. While they are down, the boss will single-target hit whoever has threat. When they are up, the boss will do an AOE. This AOE starts in the center and then slowly goes outwards, then back in in a series of 'rings'. If you dodge the 'ring' that is currently being AOEed, it's quite easy. Just make certain you don't stay in the ring that's currently being AOEed and I think anyone can solo this.

TBC Classic

Solo'd on a Ret Paladin in just normal dungeon blues, was very tricky and took a long time, but it's possible.

Before you begin, make sure you buff all of the NPCs with Wisdom or Might. The "Regenerators" are the casters/healers and get Wisdom, so just put Might on all the others. Buff yourself with Greater Wisdom, and use any extra stat consumes you want. I used the +20 str food and a 35 str elixir.

Talk to the captain to start the event, run in and kill any stray mobs inside, and then just let the NPCs fight Dimensius. You can go in and melee him a bit, but WATCH THREAT, if you pull threat he'll turn around and smack you for 2-3k. Once he gets to 75%, he'll spawn 4 adds and start doing his AoE. During this period, he literally will not do anything other than AoE, so as long as you don't kill the adds, he's a sitting duck.

The trick to his AoE is that it slowly moves outward and then inward in a sort of ring-like pattern. It only actually damages where the explosions are showing up, so you just wait until the AoE moves outward, then run into melee range and you won't be hit by the AoE, since it's further outward. It moves outward and then back inward, and repeats from there. Just watch where the explosions are, and weave in and out to avoid them.

Judge Wisdom on Dimensius, and start blastin'. Just don't use Exorcism because you will need all the mana you can get. You'll likely be using Super Mana Potions on CD. Bandages are incredibly useful too, since you're inevitably going to be hit a few times by the AoE. Just keep your health above 4000 or so and you'll be fine. The NPCs will die to the AoE, but it doesn't matter, you just need Dimensius dead in order to get credit for the quest, at this point.

From here, you literally just weave around the AoE and melee the boss until he's dead. It's that simple. However, if you take too long, the adds will despawn and he'll go back to his normal attack pattern...not sure how long this is, but I remember on my first attempt I got him down to 10% or so and then the adds just disappeared and he started smacking me again.

But yeah. Tough and long fight, but definitely possible to solo, even for melee classes. I imagine this is a lot easier for ranged that can just sit near the door and avoid the AoE that much more easily.

This is confirmed as of now. There is no way to solo him in TBC Classic. I think Blizzard fixed him. He now casts Death Spiral which travel through walls and you cannot avoid it. I tried even running outside and it followed me through the walls. He kept spam casting it, this is with the add he spawns still up. It says several times in this guide that he only casts a single AoE spell, that is not the case now. I wasn't able to avoid those attacks and I ran outside to despawn him but he got off a Death Spiral cast and it chased me before killing me as I was already low health. This was tried as a Death Knight TBC Classic WoTLK Pre-patch 9 of September 2022 and I have been unable to find away to avoid those attacks since they go right through walls. If anyone has any tips, please feel free to provide them. I was unholy spec. I had a good system too. I ran in and used my frost runes on Frost Plague, I built up enough runic power and activated my gargoyle, as it munched away, I continued to run in and out of the room, I built up more runic power and then death coiled him, as I have the talent that gives death coil a 10% damage DOT, I think he got to 60% hp before the npcs started dropping, then he started casting those spirals. Any tips and help would be greatly appreciated. I'll give it 1 more try with my run in method and see if its the same result.
