The Cipher of Damnation is an extremely long quest line in Shadowmoon Valley. It is a prerequisite for attunement to The Eye in Tempest Keep and Mount Hyjal in Caverns of time.

At this point, the quests diverge into three separate lines (which can be done in any order) for each of Oronok's three sons who will in turn help you obtain the three Fragments of Damnation.

After completing the quest, you will get a message in the mail from Khadgar. If you go to Shattrath, he will tell you to talk to A'Dal, who unlocks the the three Trials. These are prerequisites for attunement to The Eye in Tempest Keep and Mount Hyjal in Caverns of time.

For the enraged earth spirits make sure that you don't get too low on health before you beat them as they will spawn a minion that you have to fight. The fire spirits will do the same thing but you don't have to fight these.
The fire spirits will cast a spell called Fel Fireball that hits for 600ish damage so do all that you can to interrupt it. As a rogue, I used gouge, kick, and cheap shot along with cloak of shadows to resist it.
Also make sure to drop the totem before the element dies or you won't get credit for it. The totem stays around for a while so you don't have to worry about it dissapearing on you.
Another nice thing about doing this quest is you can get motes of earth and motes of fire drops from the elementals which seem to sell for quite a bit.

i found a perfect spot for this quest was around 45,40

i sat there and killed the fire elementals and while waiting for them to respawn, i killed the rock elementals.

Ive got a little question about this quest, ive had that Totem of Spirits, but i accidentaly destroyed it, and i dont know how to get a new one, can someone help me with this? how to get a new 1?:)

A little nice tip:
Theres a pretty good chance, that theres someone farming these mobs, around 45,45 and 52,52. So, you dont need to kill em your self. I just ran past, popped a totem and ran off to the next one. Got this done in about 4mins, for all 8 both fire and rock!

And dont forget dont step in the green lava takes away about 600 health. Make sure you stay on the small spots of land.

For any dark pact Warlocks using their imp as a mana battery, be sure to put the imp on wait so it doesn't follow you into the fire. It'll die in about three seconds.

Yea im having issues with this.

managed to get 3 of each then all of a sudden it stopped working doing everything right just not registering them killed in excess of 20 of each and still only got 3 souls.

Simple quest.
Just put the totem down while you are killing a flame guy or a rock guy and it will automaticly capture its soul.
Easy quest. Took a while though.

The elementals are heavily farmed in this area for the motes. Don't let them stop you, if someone is killing guys, drop a totem off before the elemental dies, and while you won't get credit for the kill, you will get credit for gathering the spirit.

Location great (46 46) And it seems no matter the class as long as u blast ur totem BEFORE the Enraged Spirit dies, it will count.

The totem is interesting. The item you get has a 30s cooldown and works an unlimited number of times. The last totem you dropped disappears when you drop a new one.

As others have mentioned you do not need to get credit for the kill for the totem to work. Any monster fitting the description you need will give you credit for the totem if it dies within range. I estimate this range to be around 30 yards.

After the mob dies you will see it's spirit drawn into the totem and an icon displayed over it indicating the element of the spirit you caught. After all that song and dance your quest credit is triggered.

This is the starting quest chain for your tempest keep key.

You need to place the totem BEFORE you kill the Elementals...which is REALLY annoying since you can't place them in bear/cat form.
And don't swim in the lava.

We must try and make amends. We must commune with the elements of this region and see if anything can be done!

I grant you the totem of spirits, <race>. If you slay an enraged elemental spirit in close proximity of the totem, it will consume the elemental's soul. You must use the totem to consume many souls before you may return to me.

Do this for the spirits of fire and earth first. Return to me when the totem is full.
