He will also summon demons though out the fight. There are archers in the towers and the walls fire quickly. Beneath the wall are two rooms with shaman in them. Clear those rooms before accepting the quest and take Zulu in.

Pull the boss into the room and tank it.

He'll do a nasty AoE and open portals, after 30s or so the portal's will spawn a giant Pitlord. These hit pretty hard but can be feared.

The strategy my group came up with is actually quite brilliant, and I guarantee it will work if you do it correctly.

Step 1) Clear both of the Enslaved Nether Drakes in the area.
Step 2) Clear both rooms left and right of the Shamans inside of them.
Step 3) Have your group's tank initiate the fight by accepting the quest, and then quickly run over to where Zuluhed Spawns
Step 4) While Zuluhed is talking, everyone else in the group move into the room that you cleared FIRST.
Step 5) As soon as Zuluhed stops talking, have the tank attack him and then move him into the room where you begin to DPS.
Step 6) DPS Him hard and move out of his Rain of Fire. When he spawns a Demon Portal, everyone in the entire group run as fast as you can into the other room, have your main tank run out first so that he takes all of the gunfire from the archers.
Step 7) Once he's in the next room, the demon will spawn from the portal in the previous room, but will NOT aggro your group because he isn't near you anymore. DPS hard on him at this point because soon he will create another portal, and this time you will have nowhere to run to.
Step 8) Once he's at low health, he'll turn into a big demon, but he's still easymode, just DPS his down, and you'll be fine.
Step 9) Loot the key, and unlock the ball and chain around Karynaku's leg.
Step 10) Talk to her, and then you get to ride on a bigass dragon all the way back to your sweet quest rewards!

He's not too hard himself, not a huge amount of HP, and he doesn't hit the tank for a lot. Pulling him inside the room helps a lot, although we had the Shamans respawn on us so make sure you kill them just before you do it. The big demon thing he summons will stand outside, only problem we had was the archers still shooting me (the priest) through the roof/walls. Anyway we 4 manned it fairly easily with a priest, druid, hunter and mage.

I had already completed this quest but came back to help some friends kill Zuluhed. But it turns out we didn't have to kill him at all this time around because I still had Zuluhed's key!

Although all five party members can loot the key, only one has to use it on the shackle for the group to get credit. That means the other four people can still free Karynaku later on.

But it should be noted that the event starts as soon as someone starts the quest. So have that person start the quest while everyone else either stands far away or on a flying mount watching Zuluhed run out and kill the quest starter. It won't say the quest fails, so as long as everyone (except the keyholder) has it in their quest book, they will get credit.

Kite him out from arena, then archers can't hit you or yours party members, so it will be easy with a 5 man group. Clear the place, before start so no repop.

Although Arcticwolf's strategy works extremely well, the following strategy works just as well, but doable with only 2 players:

1. Clear all mobs from the front Enslaved Netherwing Drakes to the room on your right (assuming you are facing East on your map), the following room after that (not the room on the left!), the room upstairs, the patroller on the bridge, and the Dragonmaw Drake-Rider at the end of the bridge.

2. Have the tank start the quest for initial aggro. Once Zuluhed spawns, have the tank pull him immediately to the room on the right.

3. Let the tank build aggro while the other person just heals him (or the tank heals himself if he is a Paladin).

4. When Zuluhed opens the first Demon Portal, run into the next room. The demon will spawn but will not aggro. Now, start DPSing.

5. When the second Demon Portal is opened, run to the middle of the bridge. By this time the archers will have despawned. Do not stand in the upstairs room. When I did, there seemed to be a vertical check and the demon aggro'd onto me.

6. You should be able to DPS Zuluhed down by now, but in case you reach the third portal, move to the end of the bridge where you killed the Dragonmaw Drake-Rider.

7. Profit!

Tips: I did this strategy with a Mage (I'm a Paladin). If you are a Paladin, having 3 points in Imp. Righteous Fury and having mana pots on you is really helpful. Constantly throw in some Judgements and Holy Shock (Holy Spec is probably a must) to build aggro, but don't do it too much so that you are draining your mana or losing too much health. And heals do more aggro than you think with Righteous Fury on. Zuluhed does a Rain of Fire. The tank should just move away from it if possible, but it can be healed through. A mage can Fire Ward to absorb some of the damage if the Rain of Fire is on them. When Zuluhed gets low on HP, he'll enrage and do more damage, so be careful. Also, if the Mage went high on threat, he would just use Invisibility and wipe his aggro. The mod KTM Threat Meters helped a lot to watch aggro. Also, start the fight as quickly as you can after you killed the trash mobs, so you can avoid any respawns that occur. Lastly, I put Greater Blessing of Salvation on the Mage and Greater Blessing of Wisdom on myself.

Consumables used: The Mage and I both used an Adept's Elixir (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28103), and I used Oronok's Tuber of Healing (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30357). These two items can easily be replaced with mana pots or Lay on Hands (I did not have to use either of them during the battle).

I imagine this strategy could be done with a Warrior-Paladin, Warrior-Priest, or any combination of classes that can properly hold aggro, DPS, tank, and heal.

If one of your group members have already completed the quest and is working on his Netherwing reputation, they're not going to be able to assist you, since they will be transformed into an orc once they're in Dragonmaw Fortress. This will make Zuluhed friendly to them, so unless they're just there to heal, they won't be able to hit him.

Was surprised to be able to do this earlier with only a rogue, mage, hunter, warlock - no healer at all, pretty much no tank (a hunter pet tanked for the first few seconds), and in mostly blues (except for the rogue, but we were all pretty close damage-wise). Almost no strategy required - you can just pull it into the room and burn it so fast that it doesn't get a chance to do much of anything.

I would just like to re-iterate the fact that if someone is over Neutral rep with the Netherwing that won't be able to attack Zuluhed.

They can however attack the elites he summons , use bandages and healing spells to support the party, and lead the party by instructing them when to move and what not

Whats the procedure for accepting this quest? If only one person can accept and start it, how do other members of t he group take the quest? Is it like an escort quest where it asks if you wish to accept?

Reason i ask is that i accepted and failed to kill Zulhed the first time, then on a rerun i was unable to loot him, even though i had the quest in my log. So still no key. It was an ad hoc group and it disbanded after this try. Should i abandon the quest, or hold on to it for the next group try?

Duo with rogue and resto druid.

1. Clear out two dragon guards
2. Clear out the right room first, as well as the upper level
3. Clear out the left room.
4. Start quest and pull the boss to the right room upper level. You may aggro a shaman, kill it.
5. When the first red portal is summoned pull the boss half way down the stairs, keep killing.
6. When the second portal is summoned pull the boss to the first room on the right side, keep killing.
7. When the third portal is summoned pull the boss to the left room, keep killing.
8. At this point the boss should be around 20% if not dead. However if you need more time you can pull the boss under the bridge where the archers spawn.

It is very simple once you get the hang of it. Big problem is mana so bring a pot or two. Hope it helps, good luck.

Did it as a prot warrior with a resto shaman and a hunter a few minutes ago. We didn't manage to dps him down inside the two rooms, but I dragged him out and through the archway, managing to drop los of the archers. He did drop another portal, but I just tanked that mob while the hunter killed zuluhed (already had a huge threat lead on him).

3 Manned, Prot Warr, Holy Priest, and Combat Sword Rogue (me).

We cleared everything, accepted the quest and and brought him into the building. Whenever he did the dark portal thing, we switched buildings. He spawned a lot of adds that i had to take care of, and did some nasty AoE, but it took us like 20 minutes. Me and the warrior have both killed Gruul only ONCE, and the priest had been to SSC, first boss.

I'm now exalted with the Netherwing and obviously instantly get the Orc disguise when I go onto the island or into the fortress sort of near the field on the main land.

The problem I have now - I cant seem to help people complete this quest any more? Because i get the disguise straight away they're all friendly too me, incluing Zuluhed. I couldn't seem to remove the disguise (setting to at war made no difference either)

Any ideas?

I was in a group for this quest today, and we had to do it twice because myself and another person never got a pop up message to accept the quest. The second time, I ran out and personally accepted the quest to be safe. By then the room had respawned, but we still managed to clear and take down Zuluhed easily without needing to run to the other room. Also every person had to loot and use their own key to get quest credit.

Two points of advice for those trying to do this quest:

1. Everyone talk to the dragon to start the event, not just one player.

2. Don't talk to the dragon until you are ready to start the event.

1. Everyone in your party must start the quest!! You all need to click on the dragon to start the quest. Tank should click on dragon and then run to where Zuluhed spawns, but all other party members also need to do click.

This is apparently the only quest in WoW where you don't get the message "Player X is starting Zuluhed the Whacked. Do you want to start also?" My group did this last night - several players started the quest, while the others waited in the doorway to the room on the right. We burned down Zuluhead and the Shamans, then the demon without a problem, except that then I couldn't loot the key as I never started the quest.

What makes this quest in particular even more annoying is that once the other players turned in their quest, they could no longer help me finish. Many of my guildmates have finished the quest, and they too can no longer help me complete it. No one in my group knew this - they went to get their loot and then came back to help me, only to find out that they can't attack Zuluhed. They can attack the demon that spawns, and they can throw heals, but they cannot tank Zuluhed. I'm a holy priest, so not an ideal choice for tanking.

(Why in the world being neutral with the Netherwing would keep you from attacking their Orc oppressors is beyond me as well, but let's not even start there on the lack of logic in this element of the quest chain).

2. Don't talk to the dragon until you are ready to start, and have cleared the rooms.

As, as soon as you talk to the dragon, it starts the event. This is completely unlike most of the other Warcraft Quests. Up until now, you would turn in a quest, and then take a quest that said something like "talk to me again when you are ready to go". Blizzard continued this group logic in the Burning Crusade Expansion - it's not only the old Azeroth word quests that do this. That is how the Thrall quest works in the Escape from Durnholde chain, as well as quests like saving the night elf from Jaedenar in Felwood, or the Onyxia attunement chain where you have to escort the Marshal from the prison cell area. Those quests and others like them ALL notify the other party members that one of the party is starting the quest and allow you to choose to start the event as well. Except, of course, this one.

One of our party members thought this quest worked like all the others, and then we wiped as our tank wasn't there yet. I know I've been in groups where someone didn't talk to Thrall or didn't talk to Marshall to turn in the previous quest and then get the escort quest that resulted in the "?" mark above the questgiver, so I can't blame the player - it's how Blizzard has implemented every other quest. Except that then they changed it for this one quest. and made it so the players who do take the quest and finish it can't help anyone else out.

Anyways, enough ranting. Key message here is to follow the advice given in this thread, but make sure EVERYONE TALKS TO THE DRAGON TO START THE QUEST. Even if you have to run out into the hail of arrows from the archers, talk to the dragon! Or you'll be like me - now looking for the last few people on my server that haven't already done this.

Did the quest just now (after the 2.2 patch) without a propper tank. Party was
2xWarlock
2xHunter
Paladin
and an out-of-party Shadow Priest helping out. Some general info:
- If you are a healer and have done this already, you can still help out while under the Dragonmaw illusion
- A propper tank is not really required, as he melee's cloth for barely 1.5K. We used dual-hunter pets with MD's to tank him. Worked gold.
- The summoned demons are tough. They melee harder than him and are immune to crowd controll (including banish). Arcticwolf's "move away" tactic worked great and he was dead before he summoned the second portal. Some shaman respawns were had, but were squishy enough to easily dispatch with our DPS-heavy group.
Hope it helps those of you hurting for a tank.
P.S. We had to do it twice so the out-of-party shadow priest could also complete the "Kill Zuluhed" part. Went a lot smoother the second time around.

I admit that this quest can be confusing, but you advice is somewhat misleading.

When you turn in the quest Karynaku (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=10858) you are offered the quest Zuluhed the Wacked. Taking this quest also spawns the demon.

The best approach is to turn in the previous quest at Karynaku to get the Zuluhed the Wacked quest in your log, but ignore the spawned demon. When you group is ready and everybody have the quest the tank can then spawn the demon once more.

It was a ridiculously touch-and-go fight, mostly luck, and incredibly gear based... at the end, the pally was dead and I barely finished him off; I was left with ~400 hp. I'd recommend doing the quest with at least 3 people

I tried to complete it with 2 others.
Me being a Ele-shaman grouped with a Resto- and Feral-druid.
They had the Dragonmaw Illusion buff, so they couldn't attack any of the mobs, except the demon he summons.

It wasn't a problem though, the resto-druid was able to outheal it and we took it down, we just wasn't prepared for it.

Duo'd this today, 70 Prot Warrior (mostly Blue armour and a couple of greens) and Holy Priest (Some Season 1 and blue gear).

We cleared the buildings out first and dragged him upstairs. Once he spawned a portal, we moved him downstairs. He spawns the next portal and then we move across to the other building. The next portal we took him outside to the archway (no line of sight for the archers :) ) and on the next portal we took him a bit further out and round the corner and away from the last portal.. It was just a case of dragging him around and being far enough away from the last portal he spawned.

We ground him down with Prot spec DPS and SW:P the whole time :)

I soloed Zuluhed as Feral Druid.

Let's take a look at his abilities:

Melee - 200-400 on 35k armor (75% reduction)
Rain of Fire - It's instant, he can still attack you while RoF is active. Deals 900-1100 fire damage per tick (every 2sec).
Doom Portal - Spawns elite demon. Spawned demons do not aggro if you are away from them when they spawn.
Demon Form - At 20% he starts attacking faster but I didn't notice anything else. Continues to use Rain of Fire.

Fight will take 5 minutes so refresh your thorns. You can use some elixirs, food and pots for extra help.

Confirmed, you can have finished the quest and not have to worry about not being able to attack.

Interesting side note: Boomkins keep the illusion of an orc, while bear druids do not.

Soloed as a well geared prot paladin too. Hits for about 500-550 on 20k armor. I had 5 demons up so you'll run out of room to kite the rain of fire. Also all the trash respawned but consecration took care of them just fine. Took about 7-8 minutes total.

The strategy was identical to the video above.

I did this wth a druid tank, 2 rogues a mage (me) and a shadow preist, basically before the second dragon came, we had zuluhed down, so like alot of things in the outlands, alot of DPS is good

THE GUY IS LOCATED RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU WHEN YOU ACCEPT THE QUEST, HE WILL DISAPEAR IF YOU DONT ENGAGE HIM IN LIKE 10 SECONDS SO YOU WILL HAVE TO ABANDONED QUEST AND THEN PICK IT UP AGAIN.

Did with 4 others, a druid(tank), mage(me), paladin(heals), and a hunter. Brought him into a cleared out room.

After you finish this quest, you cannot do the dailies without a flying epic mount. :(

Next quest in this series is:
Ally of the Netherwing

This fight is not as hard as it may seem, I personally tanked in loads of green
items using Fireguard as my weapon.

We had Shadow Priest, Holy/Ret Pala, 2x Rogue and me the Warrior.
(1 was confused and died right away before even starting on boss, so we were kinda
Shadow Priest, Ret/Holy Pala, Rogue, Warrior, in other words, 4 members <.<)

First of all, clear out the two Enslaved Netherwings in the courtyard,
then go to the right side door and kill the 2 shamans inside.
After you kill those, all go in close to Karynaku.

Everyone make sure to hand in previous quest then one person start this one
and all others immediately select to start it as well when asked.

Quickly everyone run into the right side room you just cleared and tank go stand by Zuluhed.
The reason for this is because the courtyard walls fill up with dangerous archers!

Once the event finish, tank taunt it and run into the room joining the others.

He hits fairly weak, but of use tanking gear if using warrior tank.
During the fight he will use rein of fire, wich you will want to quickly move out of,
easy to dodge so just move if he does it over you.

Another thing he does is to summon demons through portals.. these are actually very big,
so they take up a bit of the room, they are fearable, I used AOE fear on them
to keep them away once they got to the third demon.
He will do it more than once as you can understand by previous statement.

Main focus on Zuluhed and kill him asap, the demons won't despawn but you can grab
the key from his corpse and then it won't matter if you die or not.

If you die, there is a way back up to the top in ghost form, so no need to
release at graveyard.. unless you like doing that to your gold and gear.

Once you got the key, you are ready for next step, so head to Karynaku and
Right click on the ballchain attached to her to free her, make sure all group members are close on doing so.

Talk to Karynaku to hand in current quest.

In the next patch (or 2 more) there's gonna be more ways to increase ur rep with netherwing faction. And rumor has it that once u get exalted u can buy a 310% epic nether drake. Its the same as the one from arena, just doesnt have armor on, so therefore doesnt look as cool. plus its not legendary. So yea, I'd advise everyone to do this questline ASAP so they're rdy to get their reputation in the next patch.

Did this last night with 5 dps: fury warrior, hunter, mage, demon lock and affliction lock(me). Pull into the cleared room and give it all you've got. He will die long before any summoning occurs. Yes he killed me (geared affliction locks do horrendous damage once all 5 DOTs are up) but I just soulstoned back and carried on pounding him. About 20-30 secs for the whole fight. Much easier than I thought.

We did this with a great PuG the other night. Party makeup was War, 2 Pally's, Priest, and Mage(me) all 70's. The fight was long, more than 5 minutes, because of only one DPS class, but with more than enough healing and tankage we dropped Zuluhed, 2 named pit lords, and at least 2 shaman patrols that wandered through. No deaths and I don't think anyone went below 50% health. It was a very clean fight and everyone got their keys.

Duo'ed this chump as a Ret Pally and a Healing Priest, took us a few trys but found out his pattern. First we pulled him into the right room, started to beat him, then when he does a spell which looks like a red summoning portal we ran him into the next room half-way up the stairs. We continued to beat the crap out of him untill he started to summon another, then we ran him into the room upstairs out of the los of the doorway. By that time we had him to 15% and he transformed, went all out on him using all cooldowns and trinkets. After he was dead we ran outside and jumped down, as the pit lords he spawns are still in the building. If you pay attention to the red summoning portals he casts and run him in the next rooms and out of the los of the last room you can kill him without any of the adds. Also my fire resistance aura helped a bit for his fire reign spell.

Before talking to Karynaku clear the room with the Dragonmaw Shamans off to the right looking out, to avoid the Dragonmaw bowmen type guys while fighting Zuluhed. Once you've done that, speak to the dragon a second time and Zuluhed will spawn close to the entrance of the tower, have your tank drag him into the empty room and fight him there.

Move out of his rain of fire if he casts it on you (ticks for 1k+), and tank the demon he'll spawn at some point during the fight (you can see the portal the demon will come out of, takes about 30 seconds after the initial cast for it to appear). Kill Zuluhed, then the demon, and the bowmen will despawn and you can go talk to Karynaku for completion once you pick up Zuluhed's key.

I've just done this quest, and a nice tip is to clear both rooms, then when boss spawns the portel in the room you are in move to the other rom, this will let you stay out of battle from the big demon.

Very well put together quest. Successfully pulled this off with a 5-man PuG consisting of a 68 Shadow Priest as the healer, 70 Fury Warrior, 70 Arms Warrior (myself), 70 Rogue (savage DpS!) and a 70 Warlock. It was NOT easy as we wiped twice. We used the previously mentioned strategy to clear the rooms and the courtyard and then pull Zuluhed to the right room and nuke him. We weren't able to tank the summoned Pit Lord as neither of the Warriors were very doing very well tanking.

We had to respawn right next to the pitlord, grab our keys and then run to unlock the shackles. I would suggest using pure classes here as hybrids really show their jack-of-all-trades status. Our healer DID heal, but not as well as a hol Priest would've, obviously. With a lack of a dedicated Protection tank we really hurt ourselves.

Just killed him with me (lock), a feral druid (tank), a mage, a rogue, and a ret paly (healer) all 70's. Not the best makeup for a group, but we managed to down him first try since we had 3 best dps classes. We cleared room and pulled him into it, but Druid couldn't hold aggro from me and the mage, so we had to do our best to juggle aggro to minimize damage. Had to sac voidy and managed to survive until he summoned the adds and went into shadowform (or something like that), then me and the mage went down, but his health was low enough by then that the rest of the group was able to finish him off as well as the adds he summoned. His RoF is pretty tough to avoid in an enclosed area so watch out for that. Thankfully, druid cast traquility, which prolly made the difference. If you want the drake mount, I recommend doing this while you are saving for your 300 mount training so you can go straight to doing the dailies once you get the training.

We pulled this off (with 2x 70 Rogue, 1x 70 Warrior, 1x 70 Priest, 1x 68 Paladin). Got him on the second try, after we got a strategy down. Our DPS was a little low, so a 70 Mage/Warlock would be nice to bring along.

Strategy:
As mentioned in other posts, the key is to clear the mobs and pull him into the room to the right. Have your tank aggro him, and constantly pull him around the room in circles. This way, your melee dps won't have to worry about getting hit much by the rain of fire. He will put up a portal eventually, that will summon a huge, fairly tough 71 Elite Pit Lord after about 30 seconds. By the time he spawns, Zuluhed should be either dead or almost dead, so burn him down (for a 5-man elite, he doesn't have much HP), then attempt to kill the Pit Lord. It's not necessary to kill him though. You can loot the key off of Zuluhed's corpse. If you wipe after Zuluhed is down, the Pit Lord will remain in place for about 3-4 minutes, and then despawn.

Leatherworkers take note... Completing this quest will make you neutral with Nether Dragons all over the map. If you want your Elemental Dragonscale Level 70 epics, or the other patterns that use Nether Dragonscales, I'd advise farming them first, as you'll likely have to damage your reputation to farm them after completing this quest.

I haven't found an alternative to going to war as of yet, outside of getting someone else to farm them or chronically searching the AH.

Completed with a group of 2 Warriors, 2 Rogues, and 1 Shaman.

Cleared one room, and 4 of us waited inside. The tank brought the mob into the room and tank-n-dragged to avoid the Rain of Fire (think first boss in AQ20). Off-tanked the summoned mob to keep it off the shammy.

Hey all,

It's doable with 3man (ele shamy, demo warlock and resto druid) with T4 level gear very easily.
Just before starting the quest - clean the room to the right (when you look from the platform with dragon - to the gate behind him) with Shamans. Then pull him into the room, so archers don't see you and don't DPS you at all :D

Then just keep a look on his "Rain of Fire" ability, kite him to the other part of the room, then keep dpsing. It was around 1min fight for us :)

Impossible to do in TBC Classic currently because no one is bothered enough to group up for it. FOMO won once again, I guess. If you didn't play at launch, you're screwed. And no, it's not soloable, I tried.

EDIT: Was finally able to get a group for it. We couldn't find a fifth member so we had to 4-man it, but we managed it regardless. We pulled him inside the building to the right, popped BL, and just burned them down as quickly as possible.

Clear the area and ensure one of the small rooms near the entrance is cleared as well. Position the tank at the spawn location in the doorway. If everyone has the quest, choose one person to abandon the quest and pick it up again, that will trigger the event. A rather nasty way to start a fight. Once he becomes targetable, run like hell to one of the small rooms. This worked out for my group VERY well!

Please be advised that this can be completed with basic flying, but the next stage of the faction quests require 300 flying.
