Actually this is soloable by the melee classes, using my tip!
Simply walk slightly backwards as you hit the imp, and you wont get the damage when he dies, just some very small damage from the imp attacking you.
I activated the cannon, and just used artillery whenever it came up. I kept meleeing the imps (walking back as i hit each one) and after 6 the dog came out. I just tanked him with evasion while i kept hitting imps and one more cannonball did it.

It's really easy. Too easy to be honest as a warlock.

Activate the cannon and start spamming it's attack. Meanwhile you tab + searing pain every imp. If you've got anough mana this will be smooth.

Sometimes a hound will be released, but they're easy. Just keep them banished.

I did this as a shadow priest. I just tab-targetted the imps and mind-flayed them one after the other... If one got too close, I casted shadow word: death. It was ridiculously easy once I started doing that. I didn't even have to fire at them with the cannon at all.

This quest is actually quite simple, don't face the imp's head on! Turn your back to the gate, as the imp's walk by you hit them in the back.. you'll likely 1-shot them and only get around 25dmg versus the 600+ from the explosion. Once again, let them walk by you and hit them in the back, easiest way.

Yes, you CAN do this as a melee class too, but it's a bit harder though :P On the first cannon when I didn't know exactly what to do, I had to use a Super Healing Potion, but this shouldn't be too hard.

If you don't want this to be troublesome, bring a friend.

Tip for mages : Imps can be two-shotted with ice lance. Sit next to the cannon , keep it going while you spam ice lance at the imp flood.

The explosion from the imps is considered physical damage and thus is mitigated by armor. Warriors, Feral Druids in bear, and Paladins shouldn't have too much trouble absorbing their damage.

As a hunter, had zero problem doing this. Imps were 1-2 shotted on auto shot, just kept targetting them and blowing them away well before they got to me and kept clicking on the cannon's fire every time it was up. :)

Definitely would be rougher as a solo melee class like warrior or rogue.

Southern camp gave me more trouble due to the way the imps came out, I had less time to shoot them down, but still managed without dying, had to pot once 'case the hound ate me up with a few crits.

Soloed this as a rogue. Instead of backing up or sidestepping, I faced the cannon and just stayed put, backstabbing the imps as they walked past (as energy allowed). For whatever reason, even tho I was stationary, I didn't take any bomb dmg. About half got thru, but it was enough to get the port down before the cannon died.

As of patch 2.0.10 Warriors can "Victory Rush" without a cooldown. So just do that all the way down the chain with your eyes on the cooldown of the pet bar cannon attack and you'll be done before you know it.

Tip for Shaman: Use Stoneclaw totem right next to the protal, all imps will despawn everytime they attack it. And when it disapears just use earthbind and wait for cooldown.

As a holy Paladin this is a really simple task. In mediocre +damage gear you can one shot the imps with a holy shock, exorcism, and judgement of righteousness, and then you can also one shot them with seal of righteousness + a 2 hander. Made this a quick task.

A few druid tips:
You can buff the canon with MotW. You can heal it using rejuvenation and lifebloom. Regrowth doesn't work. I haven't tried healing touch but it likely doesn't work either.
Healing the canon will make the imps aggro you, so it might be useful if you get behind with killing the imps as an easy way to divert them from the canon.

Feral druid tips:
Stay in bear form, in your tanking gear. Try to move backwards as you kill the imps so you avoid the explosion damage.
Use swipe to kill the imps, it's enough to one shoot them. And you should be full rage all the time while doing this.
Auto attack doesn't cut it, it's too slow and if it misses you'll get an imp exploding on the canon.

You'll still have nothing better than the auto attack to kill the imps with while you use frenzied regeneration however, but you can use faerie fire feral to aggro the imps that you miss to alleviate the problem a bit.

If a dog show up, just tank it, dps it down and keep it in front of the canon, and when the canon attack cooldown is up, use the flame thrower attack to insta kill it.
If it fails somehow, just finish off the dog yourself. Use swipe and demo roar while fighting the dog to grab some of the imps as well.

VERY easy as a L70 Mage.

Activate the cannon and use Ice Lance against the imps. I did this on another character before (Warlock), and I got hounds that time. This time, I got no hounds.

The only difference in the two times I did it was that this time, I was able to kill all the Imps before they reached the cannons. It seemed like when I allowed an Imp to explode near the cannons, that's when I got a hound.

What I did to solo this as a hunter was to stand near the gate and as the imps came out I simply auto-shot them or multishot when I could. Usually 1 shot them and they were far away that neither myself or the cannon took any damage. Ranged classes should try this.

Clear the area around the cannon!

Then use the ammunition on the cannon, a pet bar will appear in the middle of your screen. There are two shots, one that does damage to the gate, and one that kills they imps. What I did was to only use the shots on the gate, and I killed the imps myself.

When the imps attack (they target your pet cannon as default) they blow up and do about 600 damage. Fortunately they had a little more than 400 hp, so they were easy to one-shot. If they aggro you, they run up to you and explode... not fun.

Just keep spaming the shot as soon as it cools down and kill the steady stream of mobs that comes.

Of course you cant use pet so I'm demo spec and demonic sacrifice my imp for more fire dmg, i then just tab targeted any imp that came out and 1 shot it with a searing pain. When a dog came out I banished, easy easy.

This is probably the easiest quest for a Druid (Feral), before engaging the cannon, just clear the are of any mobs, so you don't aggro by mistake later. Second step is engage cannon, fire the first shot go cat form and just kill all Imps with mangle, mostly likely you will crit and gain health from ILOTP and even better if you have https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28109 on, to finish off just keep firing the cannon, you and cannon will end quest at full health!

Strategy for a lvl 70 Holy Pally: Clear mobs around area. Use the cannon ball. Stand about halfway between the cannon and where the imp are coming from. Spam the cannon's shoot button on the pet bar (to the right of your aura buttons) and your consecration. Concencration will pick up most the imps. Flash heal as needed, the imps were exploding on me for about 400 each. They come out at about one per second so I never really tried to melee them, just stayed in one spot and let the concencrate pick them up. A little messy figuring this out on the first cannon. But on the second cannon, I think only one imp got through to the cannon. Took about 7000 mana to finish the fight. If you have less than that, have a mana pot ready :)

Shaman: place a Stoneclaw totem near the mouth of the gate, the imps will make to attack it and then explode, doing no damage. This negates quite a few of them, and you can frost shock one to get in quick heal time if ya need it. Otherwise, backpedaling after hitting an imp will "dodge" the explosion more often than not.

just did this as a 67 lock. The trick is to start firing the cannon right away. Then i would target the imp farthest away and shadowbolt him (i have a 2.5 sec cast time) One shot always killed them. Even if you miss half the imps you should still be able to complete it

Had absolutely no Problem as a Affliction Lock to one-shot them with Searing Pain.
They have less than 400 hp each.

On the Northern Cannon there seems to be a Bug, sometimes Imp's don't get damage. But that's no big deal.

For the Summoned Wrath Hound some people here mentioned for the Southern Gate, that's just a normal patrolling mob, kill it and you only have to deal with imps, nothing else.

The Imps only explode for 500 damage if they come in melee range. If you either one-shot them or keep them at range you have no need for bandages/hp gear

For Rogues:

Regardless of what you will take the 500-700 damage a few times... the big secret that made it easier for me was to clear the fight manually with about 1k health left, allow the cannon to take damage while still attacking.

If you back up, you will drop out of combat, eat up to 1/2 - 3/4 health and get going back on it... ended the fight with around 3k of 7k health

Soloed as 69 hunter (BM), not hard imo but just don't forget your pet is changed to the cannon, simply click fire at warp cannon or something at the 'pet's bar and shoot he imps...
P.S.: Clear the mobs around the cannon, else you will pull them (you can freeze one ofc)

To summarize:

After converting the cannon, nothing happens until after your first cannonball attack on the portal.
The cannonball & AoE flamethrower share a 15 second cooldown.
The first cannonball attack causes imps to spawn non-stop from the portal -- about one every 2-3 secs.
The imps explode in a short-range AoE to attack and head straight at the cannon.
The imps have 450hp, according to https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=22474
If you one-shot kill them, they don't explode, they just die.
If you hit and don't kill them, or generate threat in any way, they turn and explode on you instead of the cannon.

You need to have a pet bar available and visible to do this quest. If you have addons that hide it, disable them. If you already have a pet, you'll have to dismiss it.

If you convert the cannon without clearing the area first, the mobs will attack the cannon if they wander within standard aggro range. I had a wandering dog eat my north cannon from behind, since I was paying more attention to stemming the tide of a'splodin imps.

Dogs (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=22500) can / do spawn in at random intervals instead of imps. For me, southern portal spawned none, while the north one spawned two in succession halfway through the cannon blasts.

Some claim that side-stepping, or stepping away from the imp as you hit it may help dodge their exploding damage. YMMV.

If the cannon dies, just wait. It will respawn. Be aware that by this time, previously cleared mobs may be respawning as well.

For shamans - totems are immune to AoE. Use that knowledge as creatively as you want.

Everyone else - you need to figure out a class-specific way of mitigating the damage (heal, bubble, mana shield, plain old soak) or perform many one-shot kills (backstab, earthshock, fire blast, etc). Ideally, you'll have to find a middle-ground of damage soaking, and popping imps, leaving yourself some buffer health / mana / rage / energy to deal with the occasional dog.

This quest was seriously easy as a shadow priest lvl 68. I killed the mobs around the portal and the cannon. Then I took over the cannon and spent each cooldown of the cannon on shooting the portal down. Now the part that made it so easy was that 1 mind flay (2 ticks) was all that was needed for each imp. I couldn't possibly go out of mana or die...

Hunters: Dismiss your pet before using the cannon ammo, or your pet bar might bug out when your pet disappears. I didn't dismiss mine, so I had to type "/reload ui" to see the new fel cannon bar.

It is pretty easy as a mage just be careful not to summon your pet as it uses the same summoned pet bar and only one can be present at a time. Just stand back and scorch and it 1 hits all of the imps.

I'm doing this as a 60 warlock (in 2.3) and it's horrible.

It's an easy start. Clear the mobs around the cannon and activate it using the item. Not hard. (Note though it takes away your pet!) Once you fire your first shot (on the pet bar), Imps will come in constant waves. They don't hit very hard and have VERY low health (Searing Pain can one-shot them), but they'll kill the cannon if they gather on it.. At the northern cannon after a couple shots I had dog-like creatures begin to spawn along with the Imps, at an increasing rate. They're quite a bit harder and will require a little more firing focus. Note that if you get swamped the cannon also has an AoE ability to fight these things.

If you're an affliction warlock like me, be careful. Dependent upon my Imp for mana, I was surprised to see that Blizzard de-spawns your pet when you take control of the cannon. Though I had no issues with the southern cannon, this proved a problem for the northern cannon. Out of the 5 times I attempted it I got an add (the huge orange dog) 4 times, and having resorted to Life Tapping for mana (even with bandages and a healthstone) I found that (having spammed Searing Pain) by the time he came I had too little health and mana to take care of just him, let alone the waves of Imps and doggies still crashing into my cannon.

I eventually just gave up. I'll re-visit the quest at a later time when I'm stronger.

As a a priest and it is your pet. So you can Power Word: Shield it! The damage taken is minimal so the shield will last a while just pick off an imp with a Shadow Word: Death and this is pure easy.

If you're a shaman, this quest is amazingly easy. Just clear the area, set down an Earthbind Totem near their spawn point, and attack them as they come along. You can use Chain Lightning to take out 2-3 at a time, and use any shocks to get the extras. No problem at all.

Okay, did this last night (and then later helped a hunter do it so we could do the Hound-Master together) as a protection paladin. This is really the no-skill way to do it (after clearing adds/patrollers, waited for big "Summoned..." dog-thing to patrol away):

I put on my spell damage gear (~10000 armor/~9000 hp/~8500 mana, all crafted/quested/AH bought, nothing exceptional) and put myself halfway between cannon and warp gate on imps path. Used the Naturalized Ammunition on the fel cannon and shot it every time the cooldown was up and spammed Consecrate (which in this gear does ~173/tick if I remember correctly). The imps mostly blew up on me and I had to Holy Light once ~2/3 through (cannon got hit by one or two imps but it can take about 4 or 5 hits easy). When dog came out (on North Gate, no dog on South Gate), I tanked him and kept consecrating. When the gate blew, all remaining imps and the dog faded out.

Never used the flame thrower, never directly targeted anything but the dog and let AoE kill the imps. Did not need to use a potion on my solo run (had to one mana potion when I helped the hunter because one of those big Summoned demon dogs (the ones that come out of the gate Bael'mon uses) patrolled into us.

South Gate is much easier IMO because the path the imps take between the gate and the cannon is longer.

Easy solo as paladin, did it with my alt, put mana regen gear on, BoW, use consecration rank 1 and heal yourself for the explosions.
Kill the bigger demons with seal of vengeange, but remeber to keep that cons. rank 1 down to stop the imps.

For warriors doing that quest - you have to press 2 buttons. Button 1 - Fel Canopn shoot a Portal (15 secs CD, need 5x);
Button 2 - press Victory Rush.

Just kill imps on a halfway to your canons pressing 1 button without CD. Even if Victory Rush not crited normal hit will finish imp.

Insanely easy as a well-geared (pre-Kara blues/greens, no raid epics) feral druid.

1. equip dps gear
2. cat
3. clear around cannon, around gate
4. stay in dps gear, go bear
5. hit the gate whenever the cooldown is up on the cannon (left-click only apparently)
6. get to the imps as soon after they spawn as possible
7. walk backward as you melee them down (1 hit usually, sometimes 2)
8. hit the gate using the cannon...
9. get random pathing add
10. swipe/mangle down the add while you try to swipe-aggro the imps
11. complete without ever going below 75% health

Really easy as 69 feral druid. Went into cat form... all the imps went down with a single "Mangle (Cat)", and energy regen was enough to keep hitting 'em.

I walked backwards, just to be sure, but none of them really did any damage.

Using the cannon doesn't take you out of cat form, thank goodness!

INSANELY easy for a feral druid. Just shift into cat, and mangle everything that comes out. Imps die in 1 hit, and the dogs a few more, clearcasting make sure that you have enough energy to keep up with the spawns. Fairly simple quest. I just stood right next to the entrance where they come out and just mangled them one by one. Stream of dead bodies :D

I found this quest to be completed fairly easily as a level 68 Warlock. All you had to do was activate the cannon, start firing cannons at the Gate, and use Searing Pain on the imps as they walked out. They would die in one shot.

Note: Sometimes the searing pains WOULD NOT WORK on the imps. I do not think they were resisting it, but sometimes the game would not even acknowledge that I casted the spell on them. There was no "resist" notification at all. If you miss one, move to the next, the; the amount you miss will not be enough to kill the machine.

Note: You will lose your summoned demon when you activate the machine.

Note: It takes 7 shots from the machine to destroy the gate. The imps that are out at that time will disappear.

Easy solo at a level 66 frost mage, just ice lance all the imps that come out, and if any aggro tags on, let your water elemental take care of them, the imps will die in about 2 hits with ice lance unless it crits, and since it only takes about 127 mana you should be able to kill most of the imps that come out.

I soloed this as a 68 rogue, this quest is easy. If your hp gets low, get somewhat far away and bandage. You'll pull aggro, but if you're far enough away you'll have time to bandage.

Don't stand next to the cannon, they pop when they get there.

If a dog spawns, use the other ability (the demon killer one) instead of the attack one.

It's that simple. Bring a pot for buffer. Wear stam gear. Easy and (IMO) a fun and unique quest.

I had trouble as a holy priest with the cannon getting blown up by stray adds...

I put Prayer of Mending on myself... and although the cannon is immune to any sort of heals I tried the ProM would hop to it... then back to me. Made it too easy with both me and the cannon being topped off even through repops and pat aggro.

It took me a bit to understand how it all works, and even at 70, this wasn't very easy at all for this enhancement shaman. I didn't die, but failed twice until I had the idea of using my earth elemental totem (fondly referred to as Buford)

I set Buford about a third of the way from the portal on the path the imps were taking to the cannon, stood away from the cannon and started the firing. Only thing I had to do was remember to fire the cannon, and heal Buford if he was getting low. I was expecting a three minute session, but the cannon disappeared before then and I saw that it was a success.

I did this as a 69 warrior, took me a few tries to understand the strat, but I just whirlwind, MS, etc the imps, usually kill them without an explosion. All you have to do is tough it out, and back away/bandage when you get low.

As a mage this was cake, imps go down in one or two ice lance's, so there is no need to use the cannon attack on the imps, just kill all imps spawning and use the main attack everytime it is off CD. After about 7-8 shots, the object was destroyed.

Very easy quest for a Priest:

Clear the area. Stand behind the cannon, shield the cannon, renew the cannon (dunno if that does anything), and sw:death/wand the lil buddies. The dog didn't aggro me because I was standing behind the cannon. Flash heal does not work on the cannon. Shield yourself because the lil buddies get wise sometimes and come after you.

for the rogues, if you kill the imps with sinister strike, they explode in your face. Try to use backstab to 1 shot them, and you won't get hurt. Only problem is to get enough energy every time...

Easy as a 70 Warlock, drain life every 3rd mob and keep fire the cannon. Only had 1 dog spawn for me which I feared until the warp-gate was destroyed.

As a 58 warlock (even a demonology warlock), this was fairly simple.

Clear the area, including patrolling dogs.

The tactic i used was immolating every imp as it came out of the portal, and they tended to die before they got to me.

If the number of imps started to get a bit hectic, I'd skip a couple and let them bomb the cannon, and kept focusing on those that had just come out of the portal.

Had to lifetap and healthstone at times, but it wasn't too bad.

It takes SEVEN shots to damage the portal, make sure you're clicking on the right button in your "pet" bar.

Um, I'm not too sure why people are complaining about this one... unless, of course, they are 100% unfamiliar with the concept of the pet bar. You use the Neutralized Ammunition on the cannon and you have 2 buttons to click- the left one being the one that damages the portal. After you shoot the first time, the little imp guys come running at regular intervals- keep your cursor over the left pet bar button and click it every time the cooldown pops. For the imps, just tab/shoot/tab/shoot- after seven shots from your "pet cannon", the portal goes boom, and you get a complete notice. Done. What's difficult about this?

Only words for this quest is 'yea right'. If you have something to help you with this great, but this is so not very easy as a rogue. After some 10 attempts at it using almost everything in my arsenal from SS, to mines, and grenades even to hold stuff off I can only say 'yea right'. I would love the exp but I would love to continue to want to play this game without frustration. I suggest you just abandon the quest and get on with the rest of the game.

as hunter it was fairly easy, however in my first attempt the cannon died and had to retry.
then i repositioned myself so that the cannon, gate and me formed a TRIANGLE. that way i could shoot the imps at will from a distance.
cannon should attack the gate everytime the cooldown expires, as it was mentioned above by another forumer.
there's no need to kill every single imp. target them as they show up from the gate , if one of them gets near the cannon ignore him, and keep killing the ones that pop from the gate.

I was a bit worried after reading the post of a person that said it's impossible as a Paladin, but I successfully soloed it as a level 67 Paladin. Crusader Strike and Exorcism should be your primary abilities: both will kill an imp in a single hit, and with the 2.3 6 second cooldown on Crusader Strike, it can be quite effective.

As someone said coords are:

North Warp-Gate: 61,60
South Warp-Gate: 65,68

Easy with a partner, and since the next part requires one go ahead and pick someone up for the whole series if possible...it saves some running around.

Quest rewards are WELL worth the effort after the next quest.

70 hunter soloed easily. I got no dog spawns, so that helped I'm sure. One auto shot was enough to kill each imp as long as i had rapid killing up, which i did after i killed the first imp with an arcane shot.

I can't stress enough how simple this was :D

As a 70 rogue, it took 1 SS and maybe an auto attack. Each imp has around 600 HP. Stand about 10 feet in front of the cannon and kill each imp as they come out. They only explode if they reach the cannon so kill em away from the cannon. Use the attack every 15 seconds. The attack was Ctrl+4 for me. Only had 1 dog spawn when doing both portals.

70 Lock - 576 Spell Dmg
All I did was drain life as the imps came out. They died before they got to me or the cannon. This way you'll always have full HP and can life tap whenever you want.

is this quest broken? i have tried over and over (70 demon speced lock) and when i use the cannonball to take the fel cannon over nothing happens.... it becomes my minion and thats all..... cant attack anything with it....

As a hunter place a frost trap near the cannon and wait for your trap cooldown to be ready, then fire at the teleporter thing. Once mobs come out they will be slowed, so drop an explosion trap or a snake trap if you have it. I prefer snake trap since the imps seems to explode on contact with most anything, though I'm not sure about that. The snakes also seek out targets. Focus fire on the teleporter, and through a multi shot in when you can. The cannon has HP, and as long as it isnt 0 its fine, so don't panic and try to destroy everything coming out of the telelporter. Just focus fire and after about 4-5 shots you'll destroy it.

Ummm... it was cake. Druids.... go cat form and just mangle each imp. Fire the cannon every chance you get. I survived with 4K hp left and never healing.

The quest isn't bugged as of today, and it wasn't too hard to solo as 67 frost mage. But no reason to die here.

Start with South gate, if possible, because follow up quest is right at the North gate:

South Warp-Gate: 65,68
North Warp-Gate: 61,60

Clear all adds. As a mage, I spammed blizzard as the imps come out. Don't endanger yourself! If you can kill them in one shot, fine, if not, the cannon will kill them, but it will lose some life in the process. When the cannon dies, just wait, keep the respawns clear, then do it again. South gate took 3 cannons, North gate is harder because of the dogs, but it only took me 2 cannons because I learned to spam Blizzard to kill almost all the adds until I was our of mana, which kept the cannon alive longer.

Strange thing about this quest is that you have control of yourself AND the cannon, like a pet.
So, just keep firing at the portal when you can, and kill the imps when you are waiting for cooldown.
Don't use the cannon's demon killer option because it resets the cooldown on firing at the portal.

After 3 trys i finally got it.. For a shadow priest all you need to do is shield your cannon and yourself and then fade. Then mind flay every other imp (Mana pots help) constantly spam fire on your cannon so you dont miss a second of your chance to fire.

Hunters: FROST TRAP IS YOUR FRIEND. Set one early, let cooldown finish, and keep the frost traps up during the fight. It will save your ass. If you're an Entrapment Hunter, go ahead and have a beer cause this is gonna be a breeze.

As other Locks have said Searing Pain all the imps and clear the area before you start the quest. Easy as. First time I though I had to stay near the cannon and died. After that, just Searing Pained them as they came out of the thingy and it was over pretty quickly.

funny u people saying how easy it is with just "imps" in your posts, yet you dont mention the hounds that spawn after the 2nd cannon shot !

tried it 4 times, each time after 2nd cannon shot, 3 hounds came

once the hounds come with imps, u dont have time to kill the hounds and protect the cannon from imps, seeing as how imps do 450+ dmg when u kill them if your within 2yds !

pretty sure no one wants to here how your class finds it easy to solo. most people search quests like these for cords in this quest. i would think cords for the cannons more important then your particular strat ,not that you solo'd the quest as a mage or lock

This was just very hard to do solo. I did the south one solo after dying like 3-4 times. When I was about to die on the north one, I go help from a 70 lock that I completed it and the following q with in a heartbeat...

The way I did it was to activate the cannon after clearing the area. Then after first shot with cannon, I placed a Frost trap outside the gate to slow down the imps so I had time to kill the, Don't get close to them as they will explode in your face. They are easy to kill.

The dog (two-headed) is a pat that would be nice to kill before u start. On the north one, there is even 1 or two more pats that I would clear first.

Doing this q as 2 in group is an absolute recommendation to save time and headache. I had 38 armor left and 5g in repair

the quest is piss easy as a shadowpriest...i started the south gate destruction with 50% HP and 70% mana and finished it with 40% hp and 50% mana...mindflay and shadow word:death does the trick...any you will have Spirit tap on through whole time

I did not find it necessary to shield the cannon. I am Prot pally level 70.
It took me several times to destroy the south gate, but i did not get alot of adds, clear the area first. then you only have to worry about the imps and maybe one dog. The cannon lasts for 3 min. , and then it goes away, if you do not suceed the first time, just do it again, until it works.
The north gate works the same way, but more adds there than at the south gate.
Coordinates are 64 68 and 61 60.

ok heres an easy way to do this quest for any of you druids having problems
there is a glitch with this quest u cant heal the cannon usally u can still put on HoTs but they wont do anything EXCEPT LIFEBLOOM the intial ticks of lifebloom wont heal anything but the final tick will so if ur having issues with keeping the cannon alive that should help

This quest should indicate that it requires more than 1 person. The imps go down in 1 hit (paladin melee) but trying to manage the cannon and spawns was too much for me. If one person kills the spawns and the other uses the cannon it shouldn't be too bad. I'll post if I find someone to help.

69 lock, no problems... Just kill the demons surrounding the cannon, and use searing pain on the imps... Saves mana and one shots, i have 600 extra dmg, but anyway...

I had a really hard time with this quest as an Affliction lock, especially with the other Warlock tips: the imps just weren't taking damage from my Searing Pain. That may have been a bug, but it forced me to come up with a new strat:

Stand closer to the gates than to the cannons -- I stood on the opposite side from where the imps spawned. Every time an imp got in my field of view, I hit it with corruption; the first tick landed before the imp got to the gate, and it turned around to hit me. The second tick hit it before reaching. Bring a healthstone, because you'll almost definitely need to lifetap. And of course, don't forget your Soulstone.

Immolate worked fine for me. Immolated almost every imp that came out and they died before reaching me. Just remember to fire at the gate when the cannon's attack has cooled down. Will probably need to drink a potion too or bandage. Not giving coords cos it's exactly as the Q says. One to the north and one in the south.

LOL. tried this 4 times now as a holy priest and it sucks. big time. I'm still there atm. as a corpse. gonna HS after i res. what a waste of time. Will have to get guild help later

ok... on the North gate u can clear the surrounding are and then Intercept the imps as they come out.,.. use your pet bar to ONLY attack the gate... The trick is to intercept the imps with Sinister Strike so u can 1 shot them and they dont blow up... you'll miss some... so dont be afraid to pot or bandage, if u grab agro from imps u can sprint and kite them allthewhile firing your cannon at the gate. Good luck...

Be aware that when you click the ammo to use cannon you will get a pet bar just above your left action buttons. This will dismiss any pet you have out.

Click on the attack warp portal (left green button) and wait for cool down and click it again as soon as cool down is up. Takes like 5-6 to destroy portal.

As soon as you take control of cannon imps will start to come out fairly quickly they have only about 450 health and go down quickly. If you don't kill them before they reach cannon they slightly damage the cannon.

STRATEGY that worked for me: Stand near the portal where the imps come out and you'll meet em way before they can get to cannon. Remember to click on artillery as soon as cool down is over.

Lastly, as noted in other posts clear the front of portal of any mobs or they will come with the imps.

This was easy for me as a rogue once I figured out what was going on. Keep in mind the cannon doesn't have to be in perfect condition it just has to survive for the 1 min 45 sec it takes to fire 7 shots. Clear the area around the cannon (incl any pats that may come near) and start the event, put yourself in the middle of the line of imps as they come (they will go for the cannon and pass you by). As you have energy, backstab and you will kill them without taking any damage. Fire the cannon when the cooldown is over. Don't bother with the flame thrower mode. Don't worry about any imps that get past you either.. If you kill only a 3rd of them you will still be fine. I got one hound on the north cannon and I blinded him and kept going. Once the gate is destroyed the spawned mobs go away so just focus on getting it done.

Ever wondered why 90% of ALL lvl70 server firsts are like mages?

Yeah this quest is a perfect example... it's imposible for any class that doesn't not have any ranged ability's... The southern cannon was hard... the northern cannon was imposible with my paladin. I have no doubt I can solo it with my warlock tho...

So to answer anyone, you take the cannon and then you get "pet" controls above your toolbar(unless you have changed your UI that is). I don't have a custom UI or any addons, yet at first the controls didn't come up, did a console reloadui and it came up.

If your a healing/shielding class its pretty easy too. However for those who can only use pots and are trying to solo(like warriors).

You can always stand back let the imps hit the cannon, get a couple of shots off with the cannon(which btw you can do while your fighting so not sure why people think you need to control the cannon and 1 to fight). It takes 5-6 from my count to destroy it. So if you can let the cannon take some of the damage then you merely have to last through the other 2-4 shots, depending no how many you get off before you need to step in to save the cannon. It's not a total wimp and can take more then a few hits from the imps.

This quest is not that hard, its simple if you just know what to do.
this is how I did it:

Took controle of the cannon
started attack with 'Artillery on the warp gate'
then I stand in front of the cannon and just use 'attack' to kill the Imps.
and as soon as the cooldown on Artillery was gone i attacked again.

But I am a shaman and I healed me once, but I think everyone could solo this. Use ranged if its possible.

I did this quest as a lvl 70 Fury Warrior with no problems.

First cleared the area, including roaming dogs.
Then activate cannon firing.
Stand in path of Imps and Whirlwind, Bloodthirst, or Victory Rush to kill each one, maybe 1 got by but that was fine - cannon has armor enough for a couple of Imp hits.
Keep firing at Warp gate when cool down is over.
Once a summoned dog came at me too, but he was summoned by the Final guy(Houndmaster) near the North Gate he did NOT come out of the gate your destroying, its just in his patrol path.
Imps will disappear when gate blows(burns)

All in all it took maybe a minute for each gate(5 or 6 cannon firings). I healed after each gate - np to solo.

Pretty much the same tactics apply for Classic. Clear the mobs in the area (if you are on a PVP realm, make sure there's no ganker asshat Alliance scum nearby, if there are kill them) set up the cannon and fire when ready.

As a Hunter, place your frost trap in the path of the imps, then get back and auto-shot (it takes 2) each imp, and multi-shot when off cooldown. Set your next trap when it's cooldown is done, you should get a little leeway on the existing one for a full coating throughout. Proc your cannon when it's ready again, and if you somehow mess up and have a line of imp you can't handle, proc the anti-imp beam while you set up a new frost trap.

You really should have no reason to fail this, unless: More Alliance scum gankers arrive to screw you over coz they are bad at fair 1v1 PVP, or; on rare occassions the game respawns in mobs early. If you are an Alliance scum hunter you an also follow this advice, though if you are on a PVP server you don't have to worry about Hordies, unless you are a ganker, in which case you're screwed, since Hordies love to gank gankers.

As a Warrior or Rogue enjoy your slow, but steady reaping of imps as you fire off cannon blasts intermittently. Should really be a problem for you, so long as you have enough pots to keep you alive should you get too many mobs on you. Again, PVP servers have the same issues, but it might be worth guilt-tripping a hunter into placing some traps for you, and helping out pick off the imps you miss.

As a Warlock you have nothing to worry about. Send in your tank pet, and DoT down all the imps while you laugh maniacally.

As a Mage you equally have little to worry about. Do your thing.

As a Priest you may have a bit of an issue if you are healer specced, but it shouldn't be too much trouble with Holy Nova on your side. Shadow spec has no issue with this quest either.

As a Paladin or Shaman you should be just fine, given your inate abilities to deal with multiple targets and self-heal. You prolly won't even need to self heal, given how weak the imps are.

Druids can screw off. You guys are broken in TBC. You need no strategy, just faceroll everything like you normally do...

Fire At Will!
