This quest is doable by both factions, as I am a horde and was able to complete it. This part of the quest is soloable as well, you'll note the quest doesn't suggest more then one player and you certainly don't need anyone else.

The houndmaster, who is in fact elite, doesn't really put up much of a fight towards the ancients you summon to help. During the fight, he will yell "Release the hounds!", much like the old scarlet named in the library. This summons one non-elite void hound which didn't help him much.

If you don't mind waiting for a level, go ahead and get one of the dps necks to help you solo.

Can be soloed a warlock. Just dot him up with WV out. Then when the Voidwalker is about to lose aggro just banish. That will give you a break to regen and make sure WV's health is high. Rinse/Repeat.

Make sure to remember to use suffering.

If you don't hold aggro on the Hound-master, and let the treants tank, you will not get kill credit for the quest.

In the event that this happens, make sure you signal the druid NPC _before_ you abandon to reattempt - as of a few patches ago, abandoning a quest will destroy all associated quest items, and the flare is counted as a component for this quest so you won't be able to summon the druid to reinitiate the quest. (Yea I found out the hard way.)

Solo'd this easily with a 70 Shaman. Poped my Earth Elemental and just nuked him down. He was hitting me on average of 400-500 Physical damage. Don't worry about a group with this quest as long as you don't wear cloth. He was immune to Frost Shock and Earthbind though. He has roughly 30k HP.

Lvl 69 Shadow Priest. Dotted him, used the wand to summon the tree dudes. he summoned one hound and I feared it. Just kept the dots on him, shielded.... wrecked him first try hardly lost more than 1000 health.

Solo'd as a 69 hunter. Sick the pet on Baelmon the Hound-Master and DPS him down. I had to heal the pet a few times.

Also, remember to USE the Evergrove Wand. I realized this after the fight. It would've saved me the mana pot I had to chug :-(.

Easily destroyed as a newly 70 hunter (ie in really bad gear.) Pig pet tanked him, summoned the treants right off, and just dps'ed after misdirection to make sure pet had plenty of aggro. Never had to heal or anything, went down fast. :)

Fuuuuun quest chain, I loved each step. Flaring the druid to come to you for each new step was a great touch, IMO.

I soloed this on the first try as a level 67 heavy fire mage with mostly quested and world-dropped green and blue gear. It was pretty close... I got down to about 300hp. I would have used a health pot but I didn't have any. Just remember to use the Evergrove wand and you should be OK. This probably would have been a much easier (though probably longer) fight as a frost mage.

Healers, you can solo this guy, too!

I was able to solo this quest as a holy priest in pure healing gear (full AQ40 and Naxxramas gear) at level 70 with the help of the summoned NPCs.

Be sure to clear out some space to move around in before pulling him.

Shield and wait for your Weakened Soul to wear off, put renew and Prayer of Mending on yourself, pull with Holy Fire and SWP, summon the trees, and fear the adds when he summons them. When he starts casting rain of fire just move back and use that time to smite him.

Used the same tactic as another Shaman that ive read, put your Stoneclaw Totem down where they come out. When that runs out put your earthbind and (im enhancement) hit them as your moving away while they come out while shooting the balls at the portal. Then when my Stoneclaw Totem is back up just place it infront of the portal again. Rinse and repeat

I soloed this guy as a 70 feral druid before I noticed that you could summon some guys to help you. It was a bit of a challenge, since he summons hounds periodically after doing his aoe which you have to kill. But, he can be stunned.

Soloed as a 66 Hunter (soloed the entire quest series actually), had to use a mana pot in the process. Just spammed Mend Pet and froze the hound he summoned, went down easily. Obviously used the trees to supply damage along with my pet.

- Stunnable. He's immune to blind so dont try it. But dont forget to kick him when he's casting, it will save you having to move out of the meteor shower.

Easily soloed as an Arc/Fire mage, Just nuke him down, and when he spawns his adds, just Arcane Explosion your little heart out. (Also, I never bothered to summon help)

For kicks, I fought him again after i did the quest, and had a few nice crits (with Arcane Power) and he never got to summon his adds. He was Immune to Slow and Frost Nova, but the Impact stuns seemed to proc on him well enough.

I have about 600 spell damage, went in, used Starfire, Summoned the "Help," Regrowth, Rejuv, burn him down, went to 1/2 health, Regrowth, Rejuv, burn him down.

Only had one add, one of the Treants pulled him off me.

As Sigboy pointed out, as a 70 hunter (bm) this was soloable with east. Pet tanking (raptor oO) and slapping the mob with as much dps as poss. Freezing trap the loose hound or leave it for the pet to handle until the elite is down. clean up the hounds. job is a goodun. so what was the wand for? never used it either. rtfql perhaps :)

Very easy to solo as a 68 Afflic Lock. Just summon the treants, and just dot him up. He will call his hound so you should watch out for that. If you are taking a lot of damage, deathcoil and just nuke him to death.

68 Demo Warlock, Destro secondary with instant corr. summoned the treants and tanked him till about 90. i immolate + incinerated too quickly and overaggroed till the end of the fight, however, i havent used any pots or stones, Rain of fire pretty much gives u time to do more dps, heal or bandage, etc, so when he does, use the time wisely.

Solo'd quite easily as a level 66 feral druid in greens/a few blues. Started by using Regrowth/Rejuv on myself and pulling him with Faerie Fire. After I had Mangle and five lacerates up, I shifted out while he was casting the AOE, summoned the treants, and tanked him until he was dead. I was easily able to keep him off the trees, and niether him nor his summons hit me hard enough to require any healing aside from random Leader of the Pack procs.

If you are well geared, this is a breeze. Get all your totems out and ready and pull him to a clear area. Once he's over by you, drop your Earth Elemental and just nuke the crap out of him. No trouble soloing at lvl 69.

I managed to do this as a drain-tanking affliction lock. I also didn't read my quest log all the way, so I did this without the help of summoned NPCs.

Note that he is immune to Fear and Horror (Death Coil), but his add can be banished. Dot dot dot dot dot drain life, win.

Soloed him as a 70 Demon Lock without using the item. He fell in about 30 seconds. I'm currently equipped in the Shadoweave Set with a few other epics, only at 1k spl dmg, but he was extremely easy. My Guard only took about 2k dmg before the boss man died.

I soloed it as a 67 Shadowpriest.

First kill the mobs around the hound master. Then I sent my shadowfiend on him so I had time to put all the dots and ^&*! on him, VT, VE, SW:P, Devouring Plague.

Then hit him with mind flay, he walks pretty slow so you can get a few off on him before he reaches you. Make sure to keep your bubble up and keep mind blasting and mind flaying him and re-applying SW:P. Once he spawns his hound add, just psychic scream it and rinse and repeat.

Solo'ed as a 68 sub rogue. Pretty easy. :) I cleared the the mobs infront of him, then went in to attack, i went in a cheapshotted, and didnt notice that the wand that i got, i had to cast for! but luckily i did it in time. So i just kept hitting him, then he summoned his pets. I got down do 2k hp then i used vanish so the tree's that i summoned would get the aggro. then i just cheapshotted the elite and Bam he's dead :) and dont get me wrong, im nothing special so if i can do it you can ^^

Solo'd the entire chain as a 70 Fury Warrior with better-than-average gear in less than 2 hours. Having a flying mount helps (a lot). The hardest part was destroying the cannons. It's imperative that you take out the imps as fast as they spawn while waiting for the attack CD to finish. The final elite was not that hard with the two treants to help DPS. The reward is one of the best non-epic necklaces for Fury Warriors in the game.

Did this as a 68 rogue, it's easy. I actually dps'ed him, but it's very easy to pull aggro. Just vanish when he looks at you.

This entire chain is soloable for a rogue from start to finish, the only difficult part was killing the summoned scryer. Very nice neck too. Pity it doesn't have any stamina, but it's a great instancing/dps item. The first neck I've seen that's a damage upgrade from Prestor's.

The quest doesn't have a group tag on it for a reason. Use the wand given to you to summon 2 treants, most people don't know about this. After that just let the treants get some good aggro and start DPSing the boss. He goes down fairly quickly and the treants are very powerful, easy solo and fun.

Easiest quest ever. He's located at 63, 58.

Level 70 affliction lock, put my DoTs on and then summoned the treants as he was doing his first spell. I killed him in maybe 40 seconds, and took 3k damage at most (at the end I only lost 1k because of siphon life and drain life). This shouldn't even be called a group quest imo.

Just solo'ed this as a ok-geared 70 rogue (just about to do my first Kara run). Went something like this:

Cheap Shot, Hemo (so i have the first hit on him), Summon trees, then light DPS with SS and Evis until he dropped.

Made sure I kept enough energy in reserve for Kick/Gouge/Kidney Shot whenever he started to cast something, he didn't manage to summon any adds and his AoE lasted for about .5 seconds =)

Didn't need pot, prep, or even evasion, since the trees took aggro pretty quick and i didn't really want it back =P

The cannons q before this was much harder....

i died first time trying to kill him, as did the two helpers, so i abandoned the quest, summoned a druid and accepted again. this time, though i killed the guy, i never got the druid signal (no idea why), and so i couldn't complete the quest..

Soloed it as an 70-Arms-Warri with Mooncleaver.
Pummel his cast when he summons his dogs & run behind im when he aoe's. You're out of his aoe & still able to stay in hitbox to do dmg on him.
Had 2k/8,8k. Used Recklessness @ the beginning of the fight but it seemed not necessary.

Banished the dog and let the treants kill him, just tossed a corruption/agony/immolate on him.. didn't lose a single health..

70 warlock, piece of cake! It only has 25khp and doesn't hit hard! The treants are cool but didn't make much of a difference when I smoked it haha! Nice rewards too.

I attempted it, I killed the guy, went pretty easy to... Then I checked my quest log, it didn't tag him as dying.. So I thought, hey you konw what? Maybe its because I started first with that wand... and 'they' tagged it. So I started dmg on him first then summoned... Still didn't tag... Even worse? apparenlty when I restarted the quest * You know, dropped it and picked it up again* it deleted the signal fire...

Worked perfectly for me.

I opened up the fight by summoning the treebeards, so I didnt tag him first but still got credit. Had about 2 adds during the fight, one tanked them while the other and myself dps'd the hound-master. Rather easy fight as a paladin.
As for the rewards, they are ok but none where an upgrade for me...:(

If you lose your Druid Flare, and cant complete the quest, dont abandon it if you killed the Hound Master. Go back to Evergrove and get a new flare from Wildlord there. There seems to be a bug, and I paged a GM about it...then I talked to Wildlord, and got a new flare...GM´s were a bit puzzled....seems I solved the bug :)

70 Hunter, I'm not much of a quest reader, so I didn't even know I had summonable treants.

All I did:
1. Misdirected my pet with a Blood Fury'ed Aimed Shot/Arcane/Multi.
2. DPS him down.
3. Trapped the hound.
4. Dead.

Didn't even have to heal my pet. (Level 70 cat, specced for armor, ~10,500).

He was pretty easy actually. I soloed him, Full Resto Shammy at lvl 69. I had to use one mana potion and heal myself a couple of times,, but it wasn't hard. I just ignored the dogs he summoned and focused my dmg on him.

I soloed this eaisly as a 67 frost mage, Summoned the treants and they pounded him till about 80%. Then I summoned my elemental and had him attack, aggro was on my elemental at around 52% health. Popped my tinket and went away on him took him from 52% health to around 8% in 10 secs, frost novaed his summoned guy and took the hound master down the killed the summoned guy.

This part was the easiest.

Soloed as a lvl 70 Fury Warrior - with my shield (He is Elite after all)

Just clear the couple of guards and have at him.

I Intercepted him and then used the Wand to call the ancients.

Let them do the work and just tank.

He does call a hound into the fight, np with him being non-elite.

He took me down to 25% health and that was it.

Return to RW for your sweet necklace.

As my 68 rouge, just had to clear the area around him. Very easy at that point. I summoned the trees, used one ambush, then just sat there kicking him when he tried to use a spell. Trees did all the dps for me. He did not summon an add for me, though I might have just been lucky.

70 hunter just finished it - very easy - just relax.

you summon the treants at the very start, they immediately attack.

He goes down in less than 60 seconds, and they hang around for the full 2:30, so don't WAIT to summon them. I even had them help me kill 5 more demons i pulled to them, pretty fun.

They don't keep aggro very well, but don't feel you have to blow any cooldowns to dps fast. at end of fight i had all health, and treants each had 80%.

I didn't even notice he had an add, because it was hidden in the middle of the master and the treants. only after master went down did I see the hound there, at half health.

Summoned the treants at the beginning, and they went to work on him. I didn't get credit for the kill even though I did do damage to him, and tanked him for his last 20% or so. :(

Had to go and down him the hard way, but fairly simple to solo as a feral druid. He doesn't have a whole lot of HP and Armor, and his swings were only hitting for 400ish.

Didn't even need to use the wand for this. As a 69 Lock all I did was send my VW after him, pop my spell damage trinket, CoA/Corr/Immolate. Use Incenerate on him then conflag. HAd to use 1 pot for health. Just ignore the pup he summons.

He is immune to all fear effects and enslave demon. Made that mistake the first time on him, second was a breeze.

I failed this by not doing enough damage to the hound master before he died. So, I summoned the druid, abandoned the quest - this will automatically destroy the flare! - and re-accepted it. I then repeated the kill, only... i now couldnt hand in the quest since i didnt have the flare.

Not to worry, if you go back to Antelarion and request another, you can then immediately hand it in to him.

Baelmon the Hound-Master must die! He maintains the ritual that keeps the portal functioning.

The Death's Door portal is located at the north end of the canyon. When you find it, you will find Baelmon.
