Had about 25% that a sifter came and yes they hit pretty hard. For me np (64 frost mage) just use your pet :)

Easily compelted:

Go to the edge of Refugee Caravan and The Bone Wastes (any side). Keep NPCs to your back and use the fumper. If gnome spawns, run back towards NPCs, they will kill him.

When Sifter spawns fight him until he goes underground. He will always reappear behind you, which should be closer to NPCs. Keep your back to NPCs at all times and he'll quickly be in the Caravan camp where NPCs will finish him off.

Use the Fumper right by the outpost where you get the quest. The sand worms will usually bury themselves and pop up in the town and the guards help you kill them. Really easy to solo.

Nooblets any one can solo him the trick is to make him spawn on the bone pile if you do that then he can not get behind you the spell he uses to get behind you is a blink spell but the ground is diffrent on the pile so you can stand there and just bet him down he will only fire his big 900-1000 poison dmg when he pops backup but becouse he cant go down to move behind you it only happens the first time he pops up .....

note to casters you must be standing next to him or he may evade bug.

When you do this ques, do it outside of the Sha 'Tari base camp. Simply because the guards will help you out. Plus you won't have to worry about adds when fighting the worms.

Out of about ten first uses of the Fumper got 7 worms, but after that must've gotten over half a dozen gnomes only... annoying!

says group but really is quite soloable. did this as a ret pally lvl 64 with really no trouble. Also if u dont feel like killing the sand gnomes since they grant no xp nor can you loot them. Do this quest near the bone wastes entrance to the allerian stronghold. when a gnome spawns run to the guards. saves time and prolly food andor mana drinks.

Easily soloed as a 64 shadow priest. Just shield before you summon, and it really isn't much of a challenge. Using the guards for help can work, but they are often slow to act, and don't hit very hard.

Done this, as a 63 subt rogue, on the stairs of the small sepulcher 47,72. Quite easy fights and the graveyard is just in front of it :) so no problem for death cuase it just resets your cooldowns :D

Use the drum anywhere in The Bone Waste, when you see the minimap written The bone Waste, there you can use it, a big worm will spawn or a sand gnome, the worm drops the quest item every time you kill him wich means 100%m but the gnome doesn't.........btw, you can use the drum up to infinite times in the same place (must be in The Bone Waste), you can use it , finish the quest, get the reward in almost the same place.

The best area to do this would be 50,76 because an NPC, Vindicator Haylen will help you. He doesn't do a whole lot of DPS but he has a net which helps sometimes and you can just leave undesirable mobs that spawn (Sand Gnomes) to him.

im doing this quest right now and im using the refugee camp method , although im finding it kinda hard to do enough damage to the worm , when it hits me for 1k and not my shield off and 3 hits because i am a squishy mage...

Hallo all who want help with this quest..
i got a nice trick u can do.. and it will go 2x faster!!!
the trick is simple..
go to Tloc 49,76..
at the NPC named:vendicator haylen
and then use ur Fumper (the quest item) there.. and there will spawn a gnome or a mature bone shifter.. the mature bone shifter got 100% drop chance on the quest item.. and the trick is that.. the NPC lvl. 62 elite will HELP U TO KILL THE MOB?..
The gnome wont give u any quest item.. just so u know it!

I used the drum at 32,75 pretty close to Sha'tari Outpost where I received the quest. I used it right next to a 70 elite Sha'tar Vindicator. It made this quest very soloable as the Vindicator did most of the damage to the Mature Bone Sifters.

I found that if i stood near the refugee caravan and walked into the bone waste's and banged the drums and summoned the worm/gnome, that if i got the first couple of hits and then walked back to the caravan the guards at the caravan would help me.

Makes it alot more faster to kill.

Fumping sounds suspiciously like thumping, a method used to distract/lure sandworms to a given location (the area where you used the thumper) in the Dune universe.

If you're going to "kite" these to guards, keep in mind that they will always burrow to wherever your back is facing.

I'd just like to note that the worms are invincible for about 3-4 seconds after they appear, as they're coming out of the ground. They CANNOT take damage until this animation finishes completely, which seems to be some time during the second cast of poison.

This screwed me because I'd unload as soon as I could target, then let the guards finish them off... It took me about 4 worms before I figured out what was going on. :(

Just soloed as a level 64 rogue.
What I did was stand inbetween the two Sha'tar Vindicators at the "Entrance" to the camp.
Walk out until you move into the Bone Waste, and then fump and hit the spawn instantly. The two gaurds will then hit it and kill it quickly.

Incredibly hard quest quest! Whatever you do, don't stand next to the Sha'Tari Base Camp and use the drum. It will cause the mob to appear close enough to aggro the guards. Then, the guards will kill the mob!

What ever you do fight then in melee range because if you aren't in range it will spit poison at you and the poison hurts a lot more than the standard attack.

I recommend that you do this quest next to the sha'tari camp, so the guards will help you kill the fake mobs, it will make it a bit faster.

I did this quest as a Shadow Priest. The method i find that worked for me, other ranged classes as well i'd assume, was to stand at coordinates 32,76 with your back facing the Sha'tari Camp. When you use the drum, if a Sand Gnome appears, simply run back to the camp and let the guards take care of it, no point in wasting mana, if you use mana. When a worm appears, start DPS and when the worm turns around, if your channeling a "laser" spell, like Mind Flay, it will auto-turn for you, turn around and continue to DPS the worm. From this spot, the guards should aggro the worm and help you to kill it. Do not stop DPSing the worm until it is dead so that you can loot the corpse. This method worked amazingly for me and is really just spin-off of the method mentioned earlier, just with coords as to where a good spot to stand is=)

46,78 is where I got mine to pop up. Other than that, sand gnomes. It's pretty much random either way though, I think.

Here's a tip that might help melee fighters out. Do the thump-age with your back towards a large rock. There are a few around the Refugee Caravan that comes to mind. When you fight the worms with your back towards the wall, they can't burrow and unburrow 10 feet behind you while shooting you with a nasty dose of poison. Instead, they'll hit the rock wall and simply unburrow where they burrowed originally. Since you're already next to the rock wall, you'll be able to continue the fight A) right on top of them, decreasing downtime and annoying breaks in the fighting and B) without them using their damn poison spell.

Also, if you do this quest around the rocks located near the Refugee Caravan, you can still walk back to base to grab some food, shake off Sand Gnomes, etc. It's like a world of benefits with no drawbacks.

Absurdly easy.

1 Journey ten steps from camp east into the Bone Wastes.
2 Fump the drum.
3 If a Sandgnome appears, walk backward and let Camp Guards kill it. Goto 2.
4 If a Worm appears, fight it and maybe Guards will help kill an easy 63.
5 Goto 2.

If you are melee and would rather avoid the 1000+ poison spit, as soon as the worm submerges, turn around 180 degrees and run (he always surfaces behind you). If you get in melee range as he is surfacing, he will not cast the spell.

The worst part about this quest is that it seemed I did not get any XP for killing the numerous gnomes and worms. I had two bars left to level and sat there forever with 0 XP gain.

I have a lvl 63 hunter and soloed it quick-- here is how:

Walk outside the camp where you got the quest at 30,76 just until you see that you have just entered the The Bone Wastes. Once there beat the drum and if a sand gnome pops up run back to camp and let the lvl 79 gaurds kill it while you run back out to the same spot and beat the drum again. The worms are easy to kill at lvl 63 so no worries;)

lol easy quest.. you can do it near the refuge camp guards and they will help you kill them.. just make sure you get the first hit and make sure it says you are in the bone wastes.. around 35, 51 is a good spot

Go any part by Bone Wastes and right click on and keep on doing it and kill the little guys and worms till u get 8 worms it easy don't need a group

I solo'd this at 33,75 near enough but not to close to the 70 elite NPC that's stationed on the battlefield there. The trick is timing (1) you must get the first hit on the worm or it isn't your kill, and (2) the elite can be engaged in battle but maybe 1/2 to 2/3 finished with his kill so it distracts him long enough to get your first hit in and not so long that he misses your battle entirely.

These things hit HARD. If they had more armor they would be elite. So kill fast and keep a heal pot handy.

it seems that the first 2-3 instant cast powers my warlock has are cast but never on the sandworm, if something else can be hit it will and if nothing else is around nothing is hit. if a dwarf shows up these same first two casts hit the target every time.

Don't be concerned about these worms - easily soloable at 70 (and probably less). The worms are only 65s. Go to 33,75 and have fun. Also don't worry about guards helping, as long as you get the first hit.

Hey hunters, don't feel like fighting the gnomes?

Keep a freezing trap down before you hit the drums. If it's a gnome, he'll freeze up and you can Feign Death, causing the gnome to despawn. If it's a worm, the trap won't work, but then again that's the point.

It's only 2-player suggested cause these guys hit like trucks. Should be soloable (may need to bandage/drink between fights, though).

Lol so easy. Solo'd 64 mage. Simply walk to edge of caravan into the bone wastes. Use drum. Then run back and let npc's help u finish off the worms. Not hard.

Do the quest outside the refugee camp, and when one of those sand gnomes spawn just kite them to the guards. (But dont do it with the bone shifters because you'll not be able to loot them afterwards)

If you're a shadow priest....

Shadowform, Buff and shield. and then **wait 15 secs** before banging the drum. (because the poison spit will one shot your shield, you must immediately recast another shield) Try and get within melee range and go all out DPS.

No exp from the worms
neither loot nor exp from the sand gnomes.

This quest is a hard skip unless you need one of the daggers from the followup (unlikely for casters as that one is worse than Vanilla weapons) or really want to max out Lower City rep.

I did this quest as a lv70 Arms Warrior.
If you use the Q Item u get a castbar of 3sec where u cant attack, makes sense, but after those 3s passed, you still cant attack for another ~10s yet i could cast Slam (improved to 0.5s Casttime) so i can only assume this is a bug... so bring a caster friend and let them drum =)

Seems to be a bug with the drum where the buff that prevents you from autoattacking is coming after the fumping cast, so you cannot attack for twice as long as intended. You can just right-click the buff though.

Considering the location, the Sand Gnomes are probably not actual Sand Gnomes mentioned earlier. More likely they are members of the Sons of Lothar expedition that got lost in the Bone Wastes and went mad.

How would you like to do a little more work for the Explorers' League? These bone worms have us all quite intrigued.

I've got a drum right here that you can use out in the Bone Wastes. Just bang on the damned thing and see what you get. If it's a worm, kill it and bring back the carcass for us to study. We'll need a good lot of carcasses to get a valid testing sample.
