Kil'jaeden will be the last boss of the last 25man raid instance before WotLK, the Sunwell Plateau

It's definitely not referring to Kil'jaeden. First of all, everyone knows Kil'jaeden is alive and well, so why would A'dal ask you if you knew that he lived? It also says he is "maimed for certain". Last time we saw Kil'jaeden was in WC3 when he ordered Illidan to chase down Arthas, and he was not maimed in the slightest. And no events took place between then and now that directly involved Kil'jaeden either.

Read the quest text again. Kil'jaeden is the "higher power" the sphere was calling to, thus the sphere most likely contained a part of Sargeras.

It could also be Archimonde calling out to his fellow Eredar.

What the text means is that Kael'thas lived, his soul still trapped in the sphere (or something). From within the sphere, Kael calls to a higher power, that higher power being Kil'jaeden. And the location in Azeroth that A'dal refers to is most likely the Sunwell Plateau, the final raid dungeon of TBC, with Kil'jaeden as the final boss.

This is an reference to the newly announced instance called "Sunwell Plateau".
Quoted from Blizzards website: "A high-level 25-player instance located north of Silvermoon City".
It's rumored that you'll be able to KILL Kil'Jaden (although not in his full form). Blizzard has told us that the blood elves has been using the Mana Forges to summon him to this world, although when you encounter him he isn't fully summoned (that would take a bit more than just 25 men).

Usually in any major instance there's an endboss drop starting a quest, which confirms the Boss' lore status, such as: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=21221

or the Verdant Sphere we're curenly discussing.

So for example the Eye of C'thun confirms C'thun's demise, while The Phylactery of Kel'Thuzad or the Verdant Sphere confirm Kel and Kael aren't dead.

I'm sure Blizzard will implement a similar item for Kil'jaeden to confirm his lore status.

Hrmm, If they already introduced one new instance to TBC via patch (ZA) that leads me to believe of two possible scenarios: There will be another large patch, 2.4, before Wrath of the Lich King comes out, introducing the Sunwell Plateau (which I imagine will be a huge pain in the ass for alliance to get to, unless it will be on a separate island that you have to access through another instance, say The Eye, then able to get a port, like MC) or Sunwell Plateau will be accessible with the Expansion. prolly some lore stuff about dark energies emmitted by the re-emergence of Kel'Thuzad-Arthas caused the sunwell to reappear.

Newest info on the Sunwell storyline zone and both instances, released yesterday(thanks to wowinsider and worldofraids).

* Sunwell Isle is a new zone, north of Silvermoon City

* The 5-man wing of the instances is called Magister's Terrace featuring normal and heroic difficulty

* The raid wing is called Sunwell Plateau, players can fight 6 raidbosses here and the one of the main stories of Burning Crusade continues here

* Outside the instances there will be lots of quests (daily quests too), wrapping up the story of Tempest Keep

* The questhub of the zone will be interactive, as players complete quests, the activity in the town will increase more and more, eventually growing into a big town, similar to how Silithus prepared for the Qiraji war, on a smaller scale though

* The quests and instances introduce a new faction called "Shattered Sun Offensive", the Aldors and Scryers unite under this name to stop Kael'thas from summoning Kil'Jaeden (upd)

* One of the bosses in the Magister's Terrace will be Kael'thas, whose story continues the Verdant Sphere quest. He'll have a large green crystal attached to his chest ^^

* Kil'jaeden will be featured in the 25-man instance, and the EPICness of the fight will be on par with Illidan's. There are 5 more bosses: Brutalicus, a pit lord; Kalecgos, the blue dragon from the Sunwell Trilogy (who is enslaved by Kil'jaeden); a Fel Dragon; female Eredar twins; and a Dark Naaru!

* The raidinstance is designed for players with Tier 6 equipment and it will be slightly more difficulty than Black Temple (upd)

* There won't be a Tier 7 raidset, however there are sets in the loottables (upd)

* The raidinstance doesn't have an attunement requirement, but players of the entire realm must complete a certain amount of daily quests on the Sunwell Isle, to unlock the last 3 bosses (upd)

Nice to see some lore, but not what i came here to find out. Is the verdant sphere a shared drop like badges of justice so the whole raid can get it, or is it a 1-per raid drop similar to onyxia and magtheridon?

This is the same type of quest as the ony/nef head. Drops of Kael and you get a choice of an epic item.
