These can be farmed very nicely in the mine below the Dragonmaw encampment (entrance southeast of the camp) on Netherwing ledge. There were lots of mobs in there and it was not as heavily farmed as the surface above.

Based on my first night of farming, this was the quest seemed the biggest time sink of the Neutral ->Friendly, but your results may vary. (And if you're determined to be first on your block to be Exalted, you'll have to grit your teeth and power through it regardless.)

These crystals drop from essentially any mob on Netherwing Ridge. Above ground, you'll find nether rays lurking around the edges of the Ridge and flayers on the mountains further in. The flayers are more densely packed for easy farming, but that also makes them popular with your fellow grinders. The nether rays tend to be less over-farmed and the respawn rate is decent enough to keep a solo player from having too much downtime. Only risk is that some of the nether ray packs are near paths of the patrolling elite drakonids. These guys have ~100K health and hit hard, so best just to avoid them.

I found less competition in the underground mine, though that may change when more folks may find out about it. On the other hand, it's much less convenient to get to since you can't fly, so maybe folks won't bother.

You'll have to go fairly deep into the mine to find mobs. You'll see slimes and worms mostly in the central tunnel as you enter. Further in you'll get access to some side tunnels which feature flayers and ravagers. Way in the back you'll find murkbloods (hostile, unlike the friendly ones at the mine entrance). I was with a skinner, so we focused mostly on the flayers and ravagers and had decent results.

You can only turn in 40 Crystals per day, but you can collect as many as you can carry. Thus, you can get a jump on the next day's turn-in by farming longer.

However, detailed information isn't exactly there, so you'll want to keep wowhead up for your specific browsing..

This is a standalone daily quest, one of the first you can get. Aside from the daily limit of 25 daily quests, no other quests will prevent you from doing this (assuming you're neutral with Netherwing).

Crystal's ONLY drop on/in Netherwing Ridge. You can have an Unlimited(?) number of these crystals, and can farm for them before, during, and after accepting the quest. So done with quests for the night? Farm some extras for tomorrow so you can save time the following day.

Bloody hell.... At a roughly 33% drop rate, this quest will require mindlessly grinding out an average of 120 kills...and since it is a "collect X bear asses" style quest, you can't speed it up by grouping.

You'd better really really want that shiny dragon mount if you want to work hard enough to turn this one in every day. Otherwise, just turn it in less frequently than daily, as you get the crystals from your other activities on the ledge.

Well just incase it helps what helped me wit this quest is switch between the mobs just to do something different so its not mindless grinding.. yeah i know its hard but also theres a chance ( even though its little) an egg will drop off the mob you are grinding on i just had one drop ^_^ but yeah just switch it around a bit

As a healer this quest sucks balls and isn't worth the time. They die decently fast but the drop rate is so bad and you need so many its totally not worth it.

I love it when Blizz punishes healers like this.

I just keep the crystals while doing the easier quests and sometimes I have the 40 collected to complete. Nice boost then. About 120 mobs a day? waste of time!

This quest is quite the annoying one to be done solely on its own but one that you would do while doing;

But if you choose to "grind" this quest I would suggest grinding the Crazed Murkblood Miner https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=23324 as they have a decent drop rate at about 1 in 3 and if they do not drop you are still getting good trade goods like Netherweave Cloth and Netherwing Eggs.

Everyone has their 20 cents worth hope mine is worth more to you.

What I did for this quest was actually spend the time killing the mobs waiting for me to get 40 until I unlocked more dailies, mainly the ones in the mine. All of the mobs in there drop crystals, so about every other day I had enough crystals to turn in the quest. Between the races and finding eggs, there was no reason to farm for these when you could be doing something to get more money/rep. If you look up netherwing eggs on youtube, there are several videos that can help you to find eggs that are far easier to get and net almost the same rep, or way more when you find 8-12 a day as I sometimes do.

A good idea would be to kill the nether rays, since they both drop motes of mana and the crystals. So you can farm while you do the quest. =)

This quest personifies everything wrong with Netherwing dailies.

Far too much killing involved, far too long to complete in general, high amount of quest objective required (still too high after the nerf) and most of all ridiculously low droprate.

Do these crystals only drop while one has the quest, or can I spend a few hours stockpiling them and keep them on hand until the daily quests reset? The crystals do not read as quest items.

There's supposed to be a mine under Dragonmaw camp and it looks like there is. Does anyone have coords for the entrance?

The aether rays around the edges of the "island" have a high drop rate, but you have to contend with patrolling elites (easy if you have feign death or vanish). The other way is to head into the mines like everyone else here suggests. The drop rates are lower, but there are more monsters available to kill, and you can mine for nethercite while you're in there.

Does this quest require a riding skill of 300 as with most of the netherwing quests, or just the ability to get onto the netherwing ledge?
