Well worth the walk for the xp! Make sure to grab the murloc quest (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=152) from Captain Grayson before you go hunting for the treasure map to start the quest.

Captain Sander's Footlocker is surrounded by Murloc Warriors and Hunters, both of which are around level 17 mobs.

If you got this, then congratulations. It took me forever to get it. I found the Footlocker at 25, 47. I also submitted a screenshot of the immediate surroundings. The Footlocker is out in the open, in front of some log structure. The Footlocker is also in front of a shipwreck. It (the Footlocker) is half- buried in the sand. The wrecked ship is in the ocean.

This quest is obtainable by horde.

I went up and down the coastline for a few times with my bloodelf killing every murloc in sight.
Eventually I found it, and now I have Captain Sander's shirt equipped.

Completed the quest on Neptulon 2008-03-04.

I also searched the entire coast for about an hour and 1/2, finally got the map after killing a Murlock Oracle near the lighthouse that put me to level 20. Ironically I was going to give up when I hit level 20, too!

No one really answers this question here. The locker that you need is on the sand by the ship that is just left of where it says "Gold Coast Quarry" on the map. NO COORDINATES this time. :)

You need to get the captains footlocker that is in front of the anchor that is in front of the ship. Exact coordinates are 25,47.

If you look on your map where it says Gold Coast Quary, and you are standing on the "G". You can see the shipwreck on the shore. There are two chests amoung the Murlocs. One is a box of parts, the other is the captains chest, which is just NE of the shipwreck.

As with most Murloc groups, be careful with your pulls.

Of course the quest doesn't mention the murloc hunters on the shore clustered around the chest. So annoying; murlocs invented the "cluster pull," where you start to pull one and end up with enough murlocs to fill the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra. But worse - why is it that their pets don't die when they do? Vampire crabs? Undead muloc sidekicks cheating the grave? And of course after you've killed all 273 of them, your reward is: Slimy Murloc Scale! Yahoo! Put me down for seconds.

The map is picked up randomly you have to get lucky...picked mine of a level 12 murloc almost at the northmost beach in westfall, but it could be any murloc...

I am a lvl 19 rogue and is having a hard time soloing it. The first box is guarded by 4 hunter & pet combos, 2 above water, and 2 under.

TO GET CAPTAIN SANDER'S MAP:
Kill Old Murk-eye (highest drop rate), or murlocs in general. the harder the murloc, the better chance of drop.

4 PLACES:(in this order)
1) FOOTLOCKER (26, 49) Go west of Gold Coast Mine. Find the Anchor near the sunken ship on beach.

2) OLD BARREL: (40, 47) Go east of footlocker. Location is Northeast of Alexston Farm.

3) OLD JUG: (40,17) Go directly north. Location Northwest of Jangolode Mine, look for solitary windmill by coast.

4) LOCKED CHEST (25, 16). Directly west, past the sunken ship is an island with a small out-house thingy. it's there. enjoy.

i killed the lvl 11 ones for like 5 mins while i was doing the westfall stew quest,(i was lvl 12) so if you are a low lvl u can try to get it from them, the low lvl murlocs are at 53,11

-> 25,47(on the beach)
--> 40,47(on the road)
---> 40,17(near the broken tower)
----> 25,16(near the house on the island)

complete:receive Captain Sander's Booty Bag, Captain Sander's Shirt, Captain Sander's Sash, Silver Bar and 8 Silver

322 murlocs. 5 hours. yep. Murloc raider finally gave it to me above Jansen's Steed. Cleared the beach from before the light house, and all the way up to the place where it dropped, over and over.

Level 16 quest my ASS. Chest is surrounded by 3 immediate lvl 16 mobs which /run/ and have another 3 level 16 mobs nearby. Get ready to F****** die if you try to solo this at lvl 16.

According to the strategy guide, the "quest launcher" is an "Old Jug." Is this jug dropped by Murlocs, as someone else says in a post to this quest, or is it found somewhere? If the latter, where is that jug found?

The footlocker is on the shore next to the anchor. The anchor is right next to the water line half buried right next to the ship.

The quest dropped for me on the north end of Longshore from a murloc before even going to the South end to speak to Grayson, drops just seem to be random, not based on any previous questing.

The anchor is pretty far down longshore. If you aren't strong enough to walk down the beach walk from the upper hill. The anchor is big so you shouldn't miss it

This is my 3rd trip to Westfall in various guises, I've killed hundreds and hundreds of those irritating Murlocs and last night was the first time this quest has dropped...had to come on here and find out what it was, as it's always nice to try something new! Just thought I'd share this with you all...granted probably not helping anyone, but there we are!

The quest is started by a dropped map from a Murloc. The murlocs at the camps near the lighthouse seem to drop it a fair bit. Especially named.

Each map/ clue along the quest comes in the form of a quest. so just read it and accept.

Its pretty straight forward.

Follow the instructions to the next part of the treasure hunt. I think there were 4 paqrts total.

Leads finally to an island offshore where the chest full of treasure is:)

This quest sequence is also available to the Horde. I picked up the note with my Tauren today when working on the Ghost's quests to kill murlocs.

The map that starts the quest can be dropped off the crabs as well. The last 2 that I have recieved on my alts were both from crabs. I am pretty sure all the mobs along the shoreline have a chance of dropping it, from the low lvl murlocs at the northern end all the way south to the lighthouse (with the possible exception of those 3 lvl 15 buzzards around that thrasher carcass).

Tried finding the drop/treasure quest by starting at the northern tip of Westfall shore and proceeded south along the shoreline. Killed a bunch of crabs and murlocs, but no treasure quest drop. Finally, I came down to the Westfall Lighthouse--knowing that Captain Sanders has quests available. Swam to Lighthouse to pick up his quests then swam back to shore to perform these (keeper of the flame, coast isn't clear, and coastal menace). I killed a lvl 19 Murloc Coastrunner near the lighthouse and got the treasure drop! So another key to initiating this quest: speak to CPT Sanders at the lighthouse.

I've still got three pieces of the 'map' in my inventory... is there any point to keeping them other than to take up space in my pack? Can't sell 'em... Is it worth keeping them or should I just huck 'em?

My friend told me about this quest and I wanted the XP, so I started searching for it. I must have killed 50 of those bastards before I gave it up. Now in the Redridge mountains, it didn't really make a difference whether I did it or not :)

The location of the footlocker is 26.48 which is just south of the Gold Coast Quary. I would do this with a party. I did it solo with a lvl 19 warrior, but I died a lot. The rest of the steps are pretty easy. This was a fun quest. I got the quest drop from a Murloc at the North end of the coast. Don't recall what type.

I found the anchor and I swear i see the chest but I can't click on it or do anything, any ideas, am I too low a level? LVL 21 Warrior.

When the quest was over i had three pieces of torn parchment left over, which were unique quest pieces.

What do I do with these destroy them?

A Clue to Sander's Treasure, Quest Item, Unique, "This torn piece of parchment contains scribbled writing," <right click to read>: "Good work matey! Now ye need to head due east. East up the bluffs. East to the road. Look for the old chimney ruins near the side of the road. There you will find an old barrel with your next clue." The barrel is between the ruined chimney and the road (on the west side of the ruined chimney). The chimney no longer has a house around it. Just look for the chimney sticking up out of the ground.

Another Clue to Sander's Treasure (etc.): "Now from this here barrel. Face ye north. Straight as the crow Flies. Keep ye walking till you see the empty jug next to the lone windmill on the sea bluffs. If ye poke around that jug, ye just might find what you're looking for." The jug is on the north west side of the ruined windmill.

Final Clue to Sander's Treasure: "Now that ye found me ol' whiskey jug, you're almost to the treasure! Just race west from the bottle and walk down to the shore. Once ye get to the water keep going! Swim straight west till you find the island with me treasure chest." There is a large shed or small shack on the island and the chest is on the south-east side of the shed/shack. The chest contains four items a cloth sash - level 14, a cape level 14, and i forget the other two.

You can find Captain Sander's treasure in Old Hillsbrad Foothills through the Caverns of Time in a chest in a rowing boat by the docks. You can see a young Captain Sander's talking to Captain Edward Hanes (a quest giver in Bloodmyst Isles) about his booty. I love this place!

ok i spent 5 hours 1 night last week keeping 2 of those murloc areas clear, had a named spawn ( sharkskin ) and not once did i see any note or whatever to lead me to the chest. i see where it is but no note no chest.For teh lub of dorf wheer is the note =/

This is an awsome quest.. i did it with a levl 18 human rogue and it was kind of easy.. :)
This quest is like a real treasure hunt.. just follow the drunken captains last words and you will get there :)
Did this quest so in 10-15 min.. isn't long but enjoyable!

LOC-ations of destinations is based on this macro...

Cut and paste that into the macro text section if you dont have a LOC macro

First number is WE (0 being most west, 100 being most east) second number is NS (0 being most north, 100 being most south).

Here are the LOCs on the necessaries

1. Ship/Anchor 26, 48
2. Old Barrel 41, 48
3. Old Jug 41, 17
4. Locked Chest/Island 26, 17

You will get a silver bar, an ok noobie sash (although I had a belt with exactly same stats by then, I still liked the red sash look better), and 8 slot bag (good for the extra bank slot I needed by then, and capt. Sander's shirt.

I've been tring to find this quest for over 1 hour.. Is there a specific Murloc that will drop the quest and in which area? Will the quest drop if my level is too high? I'm currently at lvl 23.

The locker is just south west of GOLD COAST QUARY. standing on the hill southwest of the quary look out to sea there should be a small single sailed ship pointing upwards. The ANCHOR THAT EVERONE IS TALKING ABOUT IS LIKE 10 YARDS NORHT EAST OF THIS SAIL BOAT and the box is 2 yards east of the anchor.

I got my drop off the low level northern ones around level 12 with my Priest. The map DOES drop off the level 12-13 ones.

I got the map off the first murloc i killed too, lol. Level 18 Murloc tiderunner next to lighthouse, so could be any murloc at this point.

Location is on the beach at (25.90,47.76). It is not in the water / submerged in the wreck. Because of this you will not need to clear a lot of murlocs. I killed two, one by one.

If ye be readin' this, it means that Ol' Captain Sanders is in a watery grave. So my treasure is yours now, ye jest need to follow the clues.

First ye need to find me footlocker. It's probably half-buried in sand by now, along the Western Coast of Westfall near the shipwreck. There be lots of shipwrecks but only one rusty anchor on the coast. Find that anchor and you'll find me locker! Look in there for the next clue.
