It's pretty tough to solo this at level 10ish. I recommend finding at least one more, AND clearing the roaming gnolls. Also, avoid the camps, they have a rather large radius of aggro :)

This is the first "elite" quest in the human storyline. This is best in a group or you will most likely die from adds, extra monsters attacking you.

Once Hogger is dead have everyone in your party loot his body and pick up his claw, it will be available to everyone that has the quest in your party.

As a warlock or a hunter (Night elf or Dwarf), it should be solo-able, if you play your class right. I soloed him on my human warlock easily.

But ya, having a group is the best choice, since there are other Gnolls around the area, it should be easy with a full party or just one or two extra people in the party.

I solo'd it pretty soundly with my 12 human mage. I didnt even have Arcane Intellect or Frost Armor on.

Just find where he is and try to wipe the surrounding mobs without aggroing to much.

If you're a druid, go for the staff reward and carry it with you at all times.

With some 2.1 speed rares being the fastest available, this 2.2 speed is the easiest way of keeping your skill up. By keeping your staff skill at 3 below maximum you will only need to whack with it for a few minutes every new level in order to raise your skill by 5 points, and keeping your damage up.

Solo'd with my level 12 warlock, tanking with my voidwalker and throwing every damage spell I could at him. Healed my VW with health funnel when all my DoT were on him.

In retrospect it might've been easier using rank 2 Curse of Weakness than rank 1 Curse of Agony.
Plus dynamites and copper bombs were a help.

After I left, a mage+warrior party were less than thrilled that they now had to wait for him to respawn.

I got one add spawn and just threw the voidwalker at him and that took care of it while i focused on Hogger.

Marshal Dughan wants you, and not him to kill Hogger for a reason.
He wouldn't last 10 seconds against Hogger, and you should not attempt this without a 40 man raid.

this was very odd to me-- Ive done hogger twice as different alts, and
the third time that i did the quest, my toon was an herbalist. There
is silverleaf near hogger the left of a large tree; I went to gather it
and he charged me, he was RIGHT there. I ran. I waited a second and
then tried again. I stood there for a minute, nothing. I touched the sil-
verleaf. he was RIGHT there again, with a wooshing sound.
Note; i got him, finally. But that silverleaf angle was Odd.

Don't let his small size deceive you - he's actually extremely hard to kill. Nihilium tried with a 40 man raid and only barely accomplished this feat. They are currently the only guild able to proudly state they have Hogger on farm status. Most other guilds haven't even attempted this awesome feat.

Hogger has three different spawn locations, one is near the stream seperating Elwynn Forest from Westfall sorta patrolining. Another place is by a big tree sorta in the middle of the gnolls. The last place is by another tree but more near the stream than the middle. Hogger is an lvl 11 elite Gnoll. Of the area that he's in, go north (but not into Westfall) and I'm sure you'll find him. It should be easier with a buddy unless can stun him and run if you have to.. I've done this quest with my Human, Blossem. I hope you find him. Happy Hunting!

Solo'd this as a level 9 mage by kiting him along the river back to the guards at 23,80 with frostbolt. Never took a point of damage.

... and then I got killed by a bear while typing this message. Ironic, huh?

easy solo'd as a 13 lock, just cleared the area and sent my voidwalker inmediatly doted him with everything i had (corruption agony and imolate) and then spammed with shadowbolt then renew dots and he dead voidwalker bout 150 hp left no need to healthfunnel for me

He is south of westbrook garrison, on the southern peninsula. I found him wandering around the southeast side of it, so was able to avoid most aggro by running there along the river'sedge. If you get in trouble, jump in the water and the gnolls will not follow.

Hogger is one of the first elites you will encounter. Bring friends, he has far more hitpoints than a normal mob of his level.

Get as far away and fireball
Repeat step 2
Frost nova(or bolt if nova hasnt cooled down yet)

Should be helpful.
(Impact may help but if its a level 10 mage its very rare you will get the stun effect)

Took him with a lvl 12 warrior. Sundered twice, rend, hamstring,a bunch of regular blows andwas lucky enough to overpower. It was close and after I killed him another non-elite came over and killed me before i could bandage....figures, lol. GL

Soloed him as a 70 holy/protect hybrid paladin. I had to spam heal and use Seal of the Crusader. I even had to pop LoH, which crit healed for 14k, so that really helped too. The armor from the quest reward is awsome! It's perfect for my level. After the fight, I used DI and hearthed out

Just solo'd as 11/rogue but boy was that tough. Tried 6 times, eventually got him with stealth/backstab to start, continue to gouge/backstab as much as possible. Pop a lesser healing pot (full health bar). Gouge+Bandage. Evasion, and finally an explosive rocket. I was probably one hit away from dying at the end.

ok well...it was pretty easy for me cuz i was lvl 20 at the time and i couldn't really be bothered doing any quests in elwyyn forest so this is what i know about the quest...

the poster where u start the quest outside the westbrook garrison thats next to the bridge heading into westfall is near the gnolls so dont worry about walking a long way.

east of the poster lies a peninsular with several camps that has gnolls lvl 9-10.

Hogger is at the very end of the peninsular but dont worry he isnt hanging about with other gnolls but what is quite difficult is the fact he is a lvl 11 ELITE if u are under lvl 12 or so u might need some help from a group or if u started at lvl 20 like me just run in and kick his head in.

Loot him for the giant claw and head to marshal dugan. He is outside the blacksmith in goldshire.

If u encounter too many gnolls when trying to reach hogger, just swim around the peninsular until u reach the most east end.

amazingly enough i beat hogger with a level 11 pally. i must have healed 50 times though. i don't think most classes could have soloed it that low of a level though.

Soloed this as a lvl 11 pally, without adding talent point yet (not that it makes a difference...)

I used Raider's Shortsword of Power, training it from skill level 1 when I picked up the quest, so my sword skill as a pathetic skill lvl 40 out of max 55 when I fought Hogger.

1: Clear the mobs around Hogger. When soloing, it's better to just take on one monster at a go, instead of a few.

2: Make sure you have your devotion aura and BoM on. Since I am a blacksmith, I used a sharpening stone on my sword as well.

3: Seal of Crusader, rush in, Judgement. Immediately get your Seal of Righteousness on, and heal. (My hp was closing 50% by then since the rest of my equip weren't up to scratch...) Judgement once more, Seal of Righteousness and heal. Continue this until battle ends. If needed, use a hp pot or Lay on Hands (I used this instead of a hp pot since Hogger was close to death; not recommanded if he still has more than 10% hp). If he keeps stunning you when healing, use Divine Protection or BoP to protect yourself and bandage/heal. Try not to exhaust your mana too rapidly. Stun using Hammer of Justice to buy time to heal if needed.

4: Loot and hand in quest for rewards and exp!

I just soloed this quest as a level 11 druid. I started off in caster form, and did a self-cast of Rejuvenation. I started the battle with Entangling Roots, then cast Moonfire, then Wrath until he started running.

Once he ran towards me, I shifted into bear form, and used Demoralizing Roar, before Mauling him every time I had enough rage to do so. I killed Hogger with 2HP left, haha.

Hogger is lvl 11 (elite) if u are below 8 u will need a group if you are higher than 8 give it a go he somtimes drops good items greens maybay he is found near westbrook garrison just down from there (south from westbrook garrison) Hope this helps There is also a non elite there 2 i dont know his name but hes a boss none elite hes a rare boss keep ur eyes open for him

Solo'd last night as a level 9 Warlock. DoT's + Fear + Imp = Dead Hogger. Only took 3 or 4 fears to keep him away from me long enough for the DoT's (plus Imp's fire bolt spell) to kill him.

He is easy, usualy you find some people looking for a group but thats very rare just do it when your high enuph lvl to solo him or get a friend to help when the quest is still red or orange to you. Anyway he is like the first group quest and has no special abilites.

Ha! I'm glad horde dont have this quest, I accidentally aggro'd him while looking for the Darkmoon Faire in Elwynn Forest and he one-shotted me.

Was half-way back to my corpse and looking through my combat logs before I realized what happened. I'm gonna get my guild to help me take him, I hope he drops Horde loot.

did it very easy as warlock 17. I am sure I could have done him at lower lvl to.100% sure. Strat that works for warlock; imp summoned, cast fear. shadowbolt and let imp do firebolts on him.fear him again as soon as he snapps out of it and keep the shadowbolts up whenever u have the time. I recommend clearing the area for gnolls first though...he runs around alot and u don't wanna get 15 of those gnolls hammering u while ur at it. This went very smooth for me and I really can't understand how this one can oneshot a lvl 60 or even whipe a group of highlvls. Gl to you all;)

Took him down solo with a lvl 12 warlock easily. Put my voidwalker on him, curse of agony, corruption, immolate, shadow bolt, health funnel, which pulled the aggro off the void so I hit a potion and he was down. Easy as cake.

Careful about the level 12 elite there, although he is half as hard. (the level 12 should drop the gold pickup schedule for the collector)Hogger is not one to be dealt with by yourself, and if you aggro a mob with him, you are out of luck...i did this at level 12 as a mage with a level 10 pally.

Uh did I miss something or are we talking about the same guy. Me (lvl 12 at the time Pally) and another (lvl 14 pally) killed him with like 5 hits each. He was cake at best. I wasn't even on the quest when we did it either just ran into him while doing that other quest. If you have a decent hack and slash technique of letting it rip when he's in front of you he'll go down (insert sorry explict example here).

I don't know why some high level people have trouble with him... He is soloable, as long as you manage to pull him out of his camp (which isn't that hard as he has a high aggro radius and likes to wander around). I soloed him as a Lvl. 13 Paladin by armoring myself to the teeth and healing as often as I could.

I have ploughed my way through the posts on this quest and I am a little surprised by some of the "feedback". Wind-ups aside, Hogger is not that bad really. My friend and I are as follows:
me - lvl 9 Warrior with good kit
him - lvl 9 Pally with good kit

We were able to get him alone quite easily after thinning the surrounding area somewhat. We both got wiped twice. Ok. But on the second attempt, I nearly got him (only about 2mm of his health left). I think the reality is that if we had both been 10s and each had a Minor Potion of Health, we could have got him fairly easily. Anyway, we will level up and get better tooled up and report back!

This quest can be solo'd easily. He's a lvl 11 Elite, He walks a path from inside the gnoll camps to sort of by himself near the river, once he is near the river, as long as you dont back up the other gnolls wont aggro.

Solo'ed him as a lvl 11 Paladin. However unless you have some serious buff's I would wait until 13 to solo. It was a VERY close fight!

Solo'ed as lvl 70 hunter, really easy if you flask first. Just make sure someone else is trying him and then hit him once to do damage and then getting the tap on him when the first guy dies due to Hoggers overpowering meleeabilities.

ok he was bugged with me because i tried him for fun(lv55 druid boomkin)so i expect to get 1shoted and i atk him he doesnt atk back so i get him to 1% and sudendly he turns into illidan and /dances and dosges all my atks and after a houre i finaly hit him and he dropped the imba weapon and some non-good noob weapon wich i disenchanted for 1x strange dust

Doing rep quests at 70 to get all of the ally mounts and I came across this one. Was killing things as Travel Form just for the heck of it. Hogger is overpowered! It took me two hits at level 70 to down this SOB. LOL.

Great mob. Lot of fun. Like to do this quest at the proper level just to see.

with my lv 12 mage i soloed him...sheeped him to kill the mob with him and then ran out of range to heal...went back and killed the others around and then pulled him when it was just him...

pulled hiim with frost bolt...fireball...2 fireblasts and frost nova...backed up....repeated...when he was down to about 5% just wanded him to death...i also had to use a lesser healing potion in the middle when i started the 2nd round...he went down in about 23 seconds...

He should be soloable by any class that reached Lv 12, with some greens maybe. My most recent quest kill was at Lv 10 with a Warrior (white/green equip). Had to use one potion though.

Hogger was the first elite I ran into, with my first toon ever, and like illidan says, I was not prepared. I was severly pwnd. Several times. Before someone explained what "elite" meant.

I still get great satisfaction, at lvl 70, of one-shotting him every time I go through the area. Once in a while, I'll even go out of my way just to track him down and kill him.

It's a simple thing, but feels so good.

I joined a 40 man PUG for Hogger, we were all to start a level one human mage and kill him. Best fun I have had in a long time ^_^

Hi hi!
I don't know what these 40-man Raid groups are all about. Buncha wimps.

We put together a 10-man group and did him in just under an hour. Four ice mages, one fire mage, two priests, a rogue, a warlock and a paladin. All Level 60, but only four of us Epic'd out.

Our secret was to spread out evenly and share aggro. We kept him kited for so long, by the time he got down to 30% health and we could FINALLY get him into the river for Phase Two to finish him off with Firefin Snapper/Stonescale Eel potions, only three had died.

Once the potions kicked in, the last twenty minutes were easy as anything, with only one more death.

I easily soloed him with a lvl 11 warlock and could most probably have done it at lvl 10 because I was hardly scratched. Gave him Curse of Weakness which pulled his teeth, then Corruption and Immolate and after that Shadow Bolts until I ran out of mana. Gave him a few hits with my sword until I had regained enough mana to again cast Corruption and Immolate on him. My voidwalker died in the line of duty, but I was hardly scratched (still had 95% of my life after the fight). Anyone who needs a group for Hogger at level 11 is a wimp.

Just managed to solo Hogger with my 51 Warrior. Made sure that i cleared out the entire Forest Edge first so i wouldnt aggro any other gnolls... i died twice clearing out a couple of the camps. Used a couple of stamina and agility buffs to help me... He got me down to 5% health, thought he had me! Nice 60xp at level 51 and picked up the Guard Leggings which should last me to level 60 at least. i also heard that his can fetch quite a bit at the AH so im gonna go back and see if i can get him to drop it.

I killed it solo with my 11th level human rogue. Quite easy. Funny thing is I never won a duel and recently lost 2 duels to level 5 warlock. So I am not very skilled at combat.

Really, I don't know what all the fuss is...

I solo'd Hogger when I was Level 6.

A Level 6 Thermonuclear Launch Specialist, that is. Took him out with two - JUST TWO - 30 Megaton devices. I admit I had a third one set to launch, but the Radioactive DoT got him while he was still a mile away.

So stop whining about how hard he is. It's your own fault for picking lousy classes. Sure, whenever Hogger is mentioned to my Level 70 Mage she still gets a far away look in her eyes, breaks out into a cold sweat, and has this severe (but amusing) tic in her eye. But like I said, she shouldn't have taken him while still Level 68 and with another 24 wimp class characters.

We did a full 40 man level 60 raid to take him down last night. Wiped 3 times in phase 1, but once we got him to phase 2 we were ok. The adds almost killed us. Master looter is still bugged, so we submitted a GM ticket since he didn't drop any epics.

Mob was gimp took him with a lvl 13 warlock solo... Put Voidwalker on him triple dot and blast away. Voidwalker died with hogger needing only one more shadowbolt. Did not clear mob around him for the kill.

Okay okay...

Phase 1:

Have the MT charge Hogger. Warriors and rogues MUST interrupt spell casting here because he will heal himself. In this phase the only magic that will affect him is shadow, so its good to have a few shadow priests around.

Phase 2:

Hogger will run down to the water and transform into a tiger-looking-thing. During this phase he is immune to fire, ice, and arcane spells. 4 or 5 healers will be needed for the MT ALONE, plus he does an AOE randomly which does 2000 holy damage + silence for 1 minute, so a priest/pally needs to stay out of range and dispell the healers/casters.

Phase 3:

At 75% health hogger will run back up to the closest tree (wiping agro) and a bunch of gnoll adds will pop out. A hunter needs to kite Hogger around the water's edge until the adds are taken care of, just AOE them down, but they hit kinda hard so bubble the casters, then go all out DPS on Hogger.

Phase 4:

At 63 to 65% Hogger will sprout wings and fly up to one of the trees. At this point all fire spells MUST be directed to the tree he is in (he will be out of spell range) and if enough DPS is applied the tree will combust, doing MASSIVE damage to Hogger. If the tree combusts, go to 5a, otherwise 5b.

Phase 5a:

The burning tree will take him down to approx 25% heath. You will need a couple tanks on him, he will stun one, removing all agro, then the other must pick him up. After the stun, DPS must stop COMPLETELY, or he will do an AOE which will wipe the group.

Phase 5b:

He will jump down from the tree onto someone, killing him/her instantly and doing 2.5k damage to anyone near him, so its important to spread out. He will use an AOE dispell to take all buffs. Just have the MT and DPS DPS DPS him down to 15 percent.

Phase 6:

The rest is done by casters. Form 2 lines, about 1 fireball's distance apart, facing eachother, with hogger in the middle. He will always run to the last one to attack, so this part is ESSENTAIL that each side cast at the exact same time, and when he is about to get to the line, the other line must cast their spells and pull him backs, so on and so forth, until he is dead.

Anyone who thinks this needs a 40 man raid is horrible at the game, with proper gear and a good players this is no more then a 10 man tops. however Vagash, now HE needs a 40 man raid.

I solo'd this quest at lvl 12 rogue, and it was easy.. once you get him 1 on 1 theres no problem killing him , taking a minor health potion incase you need or just a friend willing to help will be all you need .. HOGGER DOES NOT REQUIRE 10 PEOPLE TO KILL!

OMG i beat him at lvl 13 pally but i ended with like 37 health and 0 manna from all the healing spells i performed on myself!

Spent ages wandering around the camps and found him at 25,92. There is a second elite (Gruff Swiftbite) wandering around as well. He gives a scroll to begin quest for "THE Collector".

Is he a lvl 11 silver or gold elite? Silver I've found to be FAR easier to kill than the gold elites.

Soloed lvl 11 rogue. Approached from the river, found at or around the 26, 92 coords previously posted, & just pulled off the trash 1 x 1, then drew him in with Thrown axes. Lucky that I still had the Bag of Marbles debuff to slow him, otherwise not so tough.
Which makes a change from the number of times I got pasted by him on other occasions, but it's just a game, right?

I recommend combining doing this quest with "Riverpaw Gnoll Bounty' to avoid grinding unnecessarily for the armbands, as the items for both quests are in the same area where Hogger is. Kill two birds with one stone.

OK, here was how it worked for me as a Lock...

Hogger was in the MIDDLE of three camps in the middle of that area.

I had tried to get into the middle enough to hit him but drew aggro of the mobs in the camps. WHen you draw aggro RUN across the river into Westfall, the mobs will not cross into different zones.

So, I came back . I killed everything 'behind' me (bears and other patrolling gnolls) . I killed a couple gnolls enough to make a wide enough area so I could approach Hogger without drawing aggro of all the gnolls in the camps. ... then I hit him with a curse of agony....and I ran.

HOGGER is fast... I mean really fast. I got him into a bigger empty area behind me (remember I killed everything behind me.)
I had my voidwalker attack and get aggro when we were away from the camps. I dotted him up and feared him (yes, I took a risk he wouldn't run back into the mobs... and he didn't. ) HOGGER broke aggro and chased me... I ran until the voidwalker could re-establish aggro. With the dots and me spamming shadow bolt, i finally got him down.

Make sure you have a healthstone and a potion at hand ( yes, i used both. He hits hard so use it before you are low). I also hit HOGGER with my bag of marbles... yes that bag. The one I got from those early quests. And I had Oil of Olaf on (incr my armor by 50). And demon skin rank 2.

The quest pushed me into lvl 11, ... just so you know its 'doable' as a lock at this level.
