You need to visit Witch Doctor Unbagwa (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=1449). He is in the cave just north of Booty Bay. You need to turn in 10 Gorilla Fangs to him and he will begin the summon. Waves of Enraged Silverback Gorillas appear and you need to protect him. The 1st wave is 3 gorillas, the second wave is 5 or 6. (I believe there are 4 waves, as of this posting, I have not yet completed it.)

There are 2 - two - waves. The first wave is 3 apes, the second one is 5 apes, including Mokk, who's heart you have to loot for the quest.

You only need to kill and loot Mokk to complete the quest, so make sure to focus your fire on him for the final wave since you can still complete the quest if you die after killing him.

Between waves you have a couple seconds in which you can eat and drink. If you have a pet or ally, you can send him out to attack to give you a bit of extra time as all the gorillas will turn to attack them.

I just ried to solo this with my Druid, I got the the 2nd wave, but then the Witch docter died >.> So Now I gotta do it again. Had very few problems as a Feral Spec Druid soloing it up to there at 42.

Easy as a hunter if you got Beast mastery build .. well might be easy with other builds aswell but I was using pure beast mastery talents and I had no problem doing this quest.

For a hunter specifically, you get the second wave done at minimum. For the third wave, if you think you can't make it then FD at the outside of cave. The third wave group still remains inside the cave. So you can wake up outside, res your pet, refresh and kill them all.

just so you know if you are 2 or more doing this quest. You do NOT need 1 fang each. It is enough that one person in the group hand in 1 fang. Then the quest begins.

Solo'd with a 49 frost mage. First wave not too hard, 2nd wave was the worst, 3rd wave was just frost nova/blizzard and burn down mokk. Used evoc after 2nd wave and burnt a mana citrine and 2 healing pots for it.

it is soloable by a 40

solod as a 40 prot pally, i was pretty well geared but it was a relativly easy fight past the 2 waves all i did was let reckoning proc as i used seal of light after i judged seal of light to keep myself healed the whole fight, didnt lose health past 90% past 2 waves, and 3rd wave i just burned omokk down first and used lay on hands once i got low and ran... ez

I highly recommend a group to kill the waves faster. I got all 10 gorilla fangs (took forever) then I slowly solo'd the first and second wave until Horde came in and ganked me... now I have to go retrieve 10 more gorilla fangs.

Did I learn a lesson? Uh, no... not really. Good luck!

Just solo'd with my 44 fury warrior, i found out some neat tricks that might help out.

on the first wave try to kill as many monkeys as you can before you get low on health once you do run away and deaggro all the monkeys that are left they will run back and start attacking the witch doctor bandage/eat&drink while he fights them for a while (he can take quite a bit) once you get your hp/mana back up go back and kill the rest of the monkeys

on the second wave stand back a bit and let him pick up the aggro on some right away kill what you can then run a bit then come back and kill the rest and bandage/eat&drink up before the final wave

on the last wave stand back and let him aggro as many as possible get the aggro on mokk and kill him fast loot his heart and run (or kill the rest if you can/want to)

Soloed as a 43 prot-speced paladin, no aggro tricks or outside buffs, no cooldowns blown, no potions. Judgement of Light/Seal of Light on all mobs, a single Consecration on the last wave, and everything was cake.

Something that I didn't notice mentioned:

If you fail this quest by letting Unbagwa die before getting to Mokk, you will have to recollect 10* gorilla fangs.

*Edit: As mentioned, since patch 2.3 you only need one gorilla fang to engage the quest even if you fail.

I did this quest with myself (lvl 42 hunter) and another hunter lvl 43. The first two waves are easy just make sure you eat and drink between them there enough time to fully replenish your mana and health. When Mokk comes with his wave concentrate on him even if u die the quest is still complete. We didn't die though :) Send i your pets on one gorilla and attack the same one to get them down as quick as possible that way less damage is dealt to you remember even if an enemy only has 1 hp left he can still kill u dealing just as much damage as he would if he had 100% health. And yes if u die you need to collect all ten gorilla fangs all over again, however doing it wiht more than one person is good because even though the quest is unsharable as long as the other person is there he doesnt even need to talk to the witch doctor as long as everyone in the party just HAS the quest they can loot Mokk and get the heart. They dont need to talk to the witch doctor or have 10 fangs. Just have the quest and have one person talk to him to start the summoning process.

I tried soloing this as a lvl 43 paladin with all the retribution auras and buffs I could muster but I couldn't get past the second wave. Best to do it with a friend as i had to do in the end.

Managed to solo this as a 42 hunter.. though it was a huge pain to do so . I basically downed the first 2 waves by the use of Feign Death, Mend Pet, Frost Trap and pots.

The best way of killing Mokk then was to nuke him down.. and run/die. I had some luck with crits when I did so.. though a tip for those who don't: if you die and run back to your corpse fast the monkeys will still be busy killing Doctor Unbagwa, giving you a second chance :)

I died pretty quickly the first time, didn't really know what I was getting into. However the second time got help from a guildie and completed it without too much fuss. By the way, the reward experience + xp from grinding Gorilla Fangs gives you some nice level progression.

Two points I believe need highlighting:

1) The witchdoctor can die -- although the quest asks for you to protect him, as long as you kill Mokk and loot the heart you have successfully completed the quest

and

2) Let the witchdoctor help you -- by meleeing gorillas and grabbing aggro. It seems many people just barely miss completing the quest and the help the witchdoctor can add for each wave can easily be the difference between success and failure. Especially between waves when you are eating/drinking or bandaging and a couple of seconds makes all the difference -- step behind him and let him aggro the wave so you can top off. Don't make the mistake of leaving the cave and not having him help out.

Soloed this quest with my lvl 43prot paladin. Last mob down and i had 1,5k hp still left. Very easy for a prot paladin to solo... if u have a nice armor! Used retribution aura, so that left me with 4675 armor. Used SoL, holy shield and consecration.

I soloed this quest with my level 48 Draenei Hunter Fradster (BM).

The first 2 waves I stood up and fought alongside my pet Zebra (a tiger). I used the exploding trap to injure as many attacking gorillas as possible.

When the 3rd wave came, I sent my pet in with Bestial Frenzy on (where it grows in size and turn red). I myself singled out Mokk and simply pound him into the ground. This time I used the Fire trap on Mokk. On this 3rd wave I also let the mobs come within reach from the Witch Doctor Unbagwa, so that he would aggro some of the mobs.

As soon as Mokk was dead, I looted him and took the heart. Of the 3 remaining mobs I managed to kill 1 before dying. However the quest was already complete, since I had looted the heart.

The weapon that I used while doing this quest was the polearm Blight, enchanted with Crusader.

call me an asshole, but i hate most alliance.

so i noticed the first wave running up to the cave. i followed and found a human warrior there. i helped him kill them, and the second wave came. i helped him kill them. then the third wave came, and i SINGLED OUT MOKK, killed him, took his heart, then proceeded to help the warrior kill the rest.

i would be hard pressed to say anybody else WOULDNT have done the same, alliace or horde.

my lvl 42 lock could complete this quest but not without dieing ofc ;) the first two waves of gorillas were ok to handle but the last one with 6 enemies was just to much. But if you have time to kill mokk and loot him before you die then there is no real problem with the dieing part ;) Mission completed.

This quest is now soloable, you get 3 waves still, but only with one gorrila in each, the third wave is Mokk, just kill him and there you go. I got help from a level 41 at level 43, but I didnt know they changed it, you can easiliy solo at level 40 I think.

as of patch 2.3, it only takes 1 fang, and each "wave" of gorillas is actually one gorilla.

so you turn in 1 fang to the witch doctor, fight one gorilla, another comes out and you fight that, and then the last is mokk. very easy to solo now.

I did this quest ages ago, well before burning crusade, with my pally... it was a pain in the rear, with three waves of apes - 2 in the first, 3 in the second, and 4 or 5 in the third wave.

I've just done this quest (after patch 2.3) on my lvl 47 hunter, and was expecting the same, but blizzard have made changes to make it dead easy.

Now only need 1 gorilla fang to start the waves - and now it just one gorilla in each wave. Like I said, dead easy. Almost disappointed how easy it was... almost.

This quest is very very easy. From booty bay run up to about 31,68 when you find Mistvale Gorilla's. Clear a path through them up to 35,61 (By then you should have obtained a Gorilla Fang) then talk to Witch Doctor Unbagwa. He won't have a yellow ? above his head for some reason, but is easy to find inside his cave. Once you speak to him, you will have a gap of about 10 seconds then a Enraged Silverback Gorilla (Level 43) will attack you. After him, another gap till Konda comes, another Level 43 Gorilla. Then you will have another gap till Mokk the Savage comes up (Level 44). Kill him and loot the Heart of Mokk. Return to Booty Bay and job done.
Bearing in mind i was level 47 at the time, might be a bit harder for you. I didn't even have to heal/drink/eat throughout the quest.

: If Witch Doctor Unbagwa or you die before Mokk is dead, you will have to re-collect the Gorilla fang and start over.

I felt that nerfing somethings was a good idea to lvl faster, they kinda dropped the ball on others (like some quests aren't LABELED elite but SURPRISE the quest mob is, etc). This is one of them, I'm lvling a prot pali this time ally (my horde server had socially imploded now it's technically imploding 4k ping 60 min av queues ftl)

anywho On my horde pali I had used this quest to as a gear check for AoE grinding and tanking. Not to mention it was fun and an huge monkey battle of epic proportions.

After grinding 10 fangs I was surprised when he only wanted one...then I remember 2.3 and had a bad feeling. Then come one LONE ape running at me, then the troll voodoo guy instead of sitting there channeling decided to get in on the fun.

Then another lone ape, and finally the third, I didn't even have to heal just use SoL...very lame..very boring. I hear the Kong Quest was also over nerfed. : /

I found this quest super easy, as a 40 Druid.

i actually did it twice. the first time, someone made the gorillas come then ran away, (naturally i aggro'd them)
Jumped into moonkin w/ almost no mana rooted the first gorilla ran back and healed, then popped into cat forn and DPS'd it to death
the next one came, i healed, then rooted it, moonfire, then went into cat form and dps's again.
the lvl44 came and i needed to heal, had no mana cuz i rooted it. used innervate.
killed it,
themn i realized i never got the quest. which sucked. =/
but when u do get it, the lvl 44 drops his heart, then u take it to the little guy that dying.

this quest is repeatable.

but seriously its an easy solo at 40 (good luck)

Solo'd as a level 40 fire spec'd mage. Had to use a healing pot for the last guy but was pretty simple besides that. Great XP for my level too. Good luck. =] For some reason the witch doctor has a blue ? over his head. I guess that means it's repeatable and you can kill them as many times as you want? Not quite sure.

The witch doctor is located in a cave at 35,60. THe cave is surrounded by huge mountains so its hard to find, but theres a road leading to it at 34,64.
Come with a Gorilla Fang!

After you hand in the quest you have to defend him against a level 42, 43 then a level 44 mob coming one at a time. Loot the last mob and you get the heart

Great for farming Heavy Leather, Thick Leather, Heavy Hide and Thick Hide, and without the trash or running around.

Do not turn the quest in and you can continue to summon the three gorillas over and over again.

Just as Aeetes says, it's great for farming thick and heavy leather. The mobs come to you and you don't get adds. Plus the witch doc helps you beat on them. :D

Thick leather goes for 13g a stack on my server so it well worth it.

Most overrated quest, ever. Start it as soon as you get it, it's easily doable at level 40 or 41. The witch doctor fights along, the apes come in waves of one, Mokk is non-elite, etc. Those good old days ...

If you're in a group, only one person needs to talk to the witch doctor. After the waves of gorillas attack, everyone can loot the heart from the last wave of gorillas.

Buff up first, then let one person talk to the witchdoctor. After the last wave is done, DON'T talk to the witch doctor. Loot first, then return to Booty Bay. If someone talkes to the witchdoctor before they loot, the waves of gorillas come again.

After several failed attempts, I managed to complete this quest solo as a level 48 hunter. It was not easy, but I'll share some tips that I have learned (the hard way...)

I went with my wolf pet. His dps is a bit less than an offense-centric pet, but he seems to hold focus better, as bite only fires once every 10 seconds. This seems to give him more focus available for the all-vital growl. He has a few more HP and AC than my cat, so I thought that he might hold up a bit better on this quest.

First, and perhaps key to the quest, is that you HAVE to keep the witch doctor alive and chanting through TWO waves of gorillas. It is on the third wave that Mokk spawns. There is a named gorilla in the second wave, but the heart is dropped on the third phase. You do NOT need an alive-and-well witchdoctor after Mokk spawns. All you need to do is loot the heart for the completion of the quest.

The first wave wasn't too bad. They spawn outside the cave and come rushing in. I put my pet on them as soon as they appeared, trying to make sure he pulled as much aggro as possible. I kept assisting him until he needed to be healed. That, of course, produced some aggro on to me which was handled via feign death. I managed to clear the first wave with a healthy pet, but almost no mana remaining.

Fortunately, there is a small pause before the second wave, and it spawns at a slightly greater distance from the cave than the first wave. This gave me time to drink part of a mana drink. I went with moonberry juice, which actually recharges my mana fairly quickly (I don't need to remain seated for the entire drink phase).

I dropped the pet on the named one in the second wave. I don't know if he was the highest level or not, but he was the first one that I targeted. I got FIVE gorillas on the second phase, and even though they were 5 levels less than me on average, that is still quite a challenge. Again, the issue was managing mana and pet health, and taking agro when needed. Even with decent gear, etc, my pet almost died during this round, and I was fairly beat up as well.

That brought on the third round, which included our named friend and his all-valuable heart. Because I no longer needed the witch-doctor's services for chanting, I went with a change of plans... (He didn't realize it, I'm sure, but he was going to help in the fight).

A quick mana potion gave me enough to heal my pet to full. I let them come all the way into the cave, then dropped my pet on the named dude. I then got far enough away to pepper him with arrows. One feign was necessary to make sure I didn't have any aggro. Once the named one fell, I hit Aspect of Cheetah, put the pet on passive, and ran! The whole lot chased us for a while, then went back to beat-up the poor witch doctor...

This gave me enough time to re-group, heal my pet, and return to the fray. I think the good doctor took one of them out, because there were only three left, and the doc was wailing on one of them. I put my pet on the remaining ones long enough for me to loot and scamper.

This was my fourth try at this darn quest, which is WAY under-rated in terms of level as far as I'm concerned.

For info, I just completed the quest solo with a 45 paladin (although I died during the last wave, but collected the heart before doing so!). So it is possible to solo, just quite difficult!

solo'd this as a lvl 43 combat specced rogue...

first wave(3 normal gorillas): killed them one after the other, nothing special.

second wave(4 normal gorillas and a named one): used blade flurry, adrenaline rush, evasion and slice and dice(also used alot of sinister strike/eviscerate/riposte ofc, but those were the ones that really helped), so when they were all dead i bandaged up to full hp using a heavy runecloth bandage.

third wave (mokk and 5 normal ones): went in stealth so they'd aggro on the doctor first, then nuked mokk down realy fast, looted and ran for it.

As stated this quest is a joke now. Bliz has made it so easy for the people leveling up nowadays compared to us old schoolers.

3 waves of 1 mob is it is now and it only takes 1 fang.

Back in the day it took 5 fangs(give or take) and it was 3 waves of several mobs and you were quite lucky if you could solo it.

Bottom line very easy solo now and if you screw up you may as well uninstall wow.

I put off doing this quest until LvL 42 (Tauren Hunter) Because I'd read the older posts in this thread, and didn't bother scolling all the way down. When I finally geared up to take on the massively multiple Mobs I'd read about, I buffed w/ every scoll of whatevers, and elixor of greater you name it, I was freaking ready for Armagedon! Imagine my disappointment when only 3 Gorrilas showed up, 1 at a time, for easy kills.

Sometimes I can see scaling a quest down, making it easier to solo, but this one was ridiculous! Come on guys, quests are supposed to at least be mildly challenging. Even if I had used a warrior (single, no pets, w/no ranged attacks) this woulda been a cake walk, especially since you also have the Witch Doc there to help.

I hope everyone takes the time to read ALL the comments here before putting a quest that appears daunting on the shelf for a while. I know I have learned a valuable lesson. That lesson: folks @ Blizz. in recent patches have severly toned down many of the what were previously challenging quests. And I do I mean severly toned down, to easy quests for a much lower lvl.

Sorry to be negative here, I just don't want anyone else to suffer the same disappointment that I have over this quest. I was expecting a battle royal, putting my toon to a real test ya know.

If you're a LvL 38ish or so, my ruff guestimate, you should be able to handle this one.

I just did this as a level 40 Warlock. So easy I could have done it in my sleep. And then got 8300XP for it!

No special tactics needed. Between myself, my minion and the witchdoctor himself, it was 3 against one for each of the three gorillas. By all means, do this quest - it's easy XP.

This quest is fairly easy. 3 waves 1 gorilla each. after you give the fang to the witch doctor the first gorilla is lvl42 sec 43 and mokk is 44. gorilas are basically easy to kill.
I was not aware though to get to mokk had to talk to witch doctor and get a fang for him first so, I ended up wondering why I couldnt find mokk. You should be able to do this quest with little to no problem if at least lvl 40ish depending on your class. I did it with lvl 44 hunter took about 2 minutes once I realized I needed to to talk to the witch doctor.

Okay, for the people who have no idea where they are going this is where:
U need to go north of Booty Bay, find the Mistvale Elder Gorillas which will be on your right when going north. Just kill all in your path and go to the very end, don't go towards the water, you will be going the wrong way. They are lvl 40-44 and that is including the dude you need to get the heart from. U go and talk to the Witch Doctor and he will start to summon three different Gorillas. The third is your guy, if you are facing the witch doctor they will come from behind you. To get the witch doctor to even summon the guy you need to have a gorilla tooth then you will get what you want. I am a lvl 45 hunter, yeah a little low for this one but i did it with no problem at all. The den is called The Spirit Den.Not sure if someone else had cleared the group of gorillas before i got there or not, so i made of had it easier then i should have. GOOD LUCK!

i tried this quest as a lvl 42 druid,a lvl 40 rouge n sum stupid lvl 47 druid...i couldnt complete it cuz both of them ran like chikens n left me 2 die...we took out 1st wave,but wen da 2nd wave came they killed 1 n ran..i killed all the gorillas + konga...but had like half life left by then...they beat me up n i died.can ne1 help...?

I'm a level 40 Pally and the only trouble I had while doing this quest was that it didn't drop anything, and the witch doctor gave me nothing. I am able to repeat this quest over and over (killing the 3 Gorilla's) but not actually completing it.

Perhaps another day I will attempt this Quest, but for now it's too frustrating.

Me (Lvl 43 Pally) and 45 Hunter completed this.

The location is correct: just past Booty Bay entrance where mistvale gorillas are. Grab 10 Gorilla Fangs (you will need them) that drop from the gorillas to summon Mokk at the cave.

Buff and get ready because the waves come fast.
I basically hung on for dear life. I expended most mana doing AOE dmg while the hunter and pet chiseled away at Mokk. Paced through it (to conserve mana) by drinking health potion during second wave. I'm also an engineer so I used bombs for stun and AOE during each wave. Each time I did, I aggro'd them so I used Pally tricks for personal Shield. AOE, pacing mana consumption, and every last trick in the book, helped me endure this onslaught.

Get at least 1 other person and preferaably 2 to do it in a group (when you are ready to talk to the troll in the cave, with the 10 gorilla fangs already). It should be marked as a group quest and is not.

Killing the first 2 waves with no problem with 60 Mage, but the 3rd wave never shows up, have done it 3 or 4 times now with same results. This quest must be bugged atm.

Trust me this is not any easy quest, espiecially if you are a hunter because it is a melee affair (you might get one shot in! Go with a group, you have been warned!

I tried and tried and tried. I am lvl 44 rogue and I just cannot do it on my own. More than likely because I am stealth spec'd. Putting this one aside for another level or perhaps help.

This quest should be a group quest for at least 2 or 3 people. The waves of mobs really drain your health (and mana if your a caster). However, if you do attempt to solo it you will need to be about level 48+ with a good aoe base e.g mage. Good luck!

This was pretty easy. I went over the top of the ridge to get to the cave. I had to kill 2 gorillas before one dropped the tooth so I could start the quest for the heart. Once you get the tooth, it starts the gorillas coming into the cave. Me and my VW did this part at lvl 40. First gorilla is lvl 40, second was 43, and third was 44. Third one gives you the heart.

Completed this quest with a 41 shaman. Piece of cake. You only need one fang, maybe that was the problem people were having. Bring only one and maybe it will work.

Solo'd as lvl 43 mage. FN and flamestrike are your friends here, second wave was definately the hardest. Used a health pot and mana gem, killed Mokk then looted and legged. Not too hard considering the xp.

I did this at lvl 43 (rogue) and I had a lvl 43 warlock with me

We just managed to kill Mokk and just looted and ran and left the Troll alone.

The cave itself is at 34,61. If you don't have coordinates in-game, then that puts it south of Gurubashi Arena, east of the road, right in the northern section of mistvale.

Please take note, that when you get the 10 teeth and he starts casting, or whatever, you will deal with 3 waves of gorillas. The first wave is easy-ish, with 3-4 40-41 mobs (no elites in any waves). The second wave includes a mini-boss in the 5 gorillas, named Konda, and he (I think) is a 42 (not elite). The third wave is very difficult - you get the non-elite boss Mokk the Savage, along with 5 friends - Mokk is 42-44, the friends are similar.

At this point, I'd say screw protecting the guy, kill Mokk, loot, and run. You finish the quest just fine that way.

Ran it solo as a 47 Paladin. Got 5850 XP.

Yeah I was sorta afraid to try and solo this at level 43, but I decided to try anyway. Then I noticed that they nerfed it a bit. It's pretty easy now.

This quest can be started at level 40. You will find Fin Fizracket lying on the ground on the lowest level of Booty Bay. He is under an upturned, broken in half boat. He'll request the "Heart of Mokk", and will lead you to speak with Witch Doctor Unbagwa in Stranglethorn.

If you haven't done the "Scaring Shaky" quest yet, get it from "Sea Wolf" McKinley in Booty Bay, because that quest requires you to collect "Mistvale Giblets" from the Elder Mistvale Gorillas in the area. You will also need to collect 10 Gorilla Fangs for *Each* attempt you make at the Stranglethorn Fever quest. SO, its a good idea to stock up and kill a lot of these gorillas for the giblets and gorilla fangs.

To find these gorillas, head north from booty bay along the trail. Not far from the entrance, on the east side of the road, you should see some of the elder gorillas running around in a field. This is your home for the quest. Slaughter gorillas until you get the required number of Fangs (and giblets if you're doing that quest).

If you have a group for this quest, you only need one person to have the 10 fangs and follow the quest. The only point for everyone in the group is to get the heart of Mokk, and the only way to spawn him is to go through this veritable "gauntlet".

Witch Doctor Unbagwa can be found in a cave to the northeast of "Mistvale Valley", the place where you fight the elder gorillas. Once you click the "complete quest" button in the quest entry box, Unbagwa will begin spawning gorillas that will run up the hill at you. The first wave is 3 enraged gorillas (level 42), the second wave is 4 enraged gorillas and a named gorilla (level 43). The third, and final wave, is 5 enraged gorillas and Mokk himself (level 44). Kill Mokk the Savage, loot the heart, and you're done. Well, you'll have to kill his buddies too, but the important part is killing him and looting the heart. If you die after looting, you still win =o)

The reward for the quest is 5850 XP (at level 40-43), and a 30 armor, 4 stamina, 9 spirit cloak, called "Medicine Blanket".

I am looking at doing this, I suppose it would be easiest with a mage and have him poly'd first then get rid of his group, then tame him. I think a mage and a healer would be good that way the healer could heal you as he beat on you...hmm...

soloed it as a lvl 45 shadow priest, died 2 times.

used fear many times and the troll npc helped me to kill most of the gorillas.

i died in the middle of the 3rd wave.

after i ran back and rez, mokk and the other 4 Gorillas were still in the cave.
so i pulled mokk and died again after looting it.

Here's a trick if you're a mage trying this.

First wave. Stay behind the Witch Doctor. When they start on him, get close and Flamestrike.
Cone of Cold, then back off to the wall.
If you have IAE or Blastwave hit that now.
Frost Nova to lock them in place and run past them toward the entrance. Flamestrike again, and let them run at you. Pick the nearest and poly him (the most important part) now back up again and you should be able to CoC again, by this time the first wave is dead or close to it, except for the one that was poly'd. Kill the rest, leave your sheep alone.

Bandage if you need to, and re-sheep the last gorilla from wave one when it breaks. Let your mana regen, DON'T use a pot or gem yet, just let it come back on it's own. You're still in combat, so you can't drink.

After you feel you have enough mana back, fireball or icebolt the sheep and kill the last gorilla.

Rinse and repeat with the 2nd wave, you might need to burn a pot or gem. If you do, take the time to wait out your cooldowns for the pot.

Repeat until Mokk appears, then nuke his a$$ to death, concentrating only on him. FN and Blink away from the others, run until they give up, then run back and loot Mokk as they are pounding on the Witch Doctor. You can help if you want, but it doesn't make a difference after you've looted the Heart.

I wish I read the recent posts first, instead I spent ages with my lvl 44 warrior trying to get 10 gorilla fangs when I only needed one, and after reading about the "waves" of gorillas I decided to use a couple of scrolls to boost my strength and stamina. What a waste, each wave turned out to be just one gorilla, could have done it without the buffs and still not break a sweat. Even though Blizzard have made this quest a lot easier that it was before, it looks like they haven't changed the xp you get for it, so my advice is to get do this quest as soon as possible before they change it.

I went into this as a lvl 42 druid and was a bit hesitant until I did what everyone should do and hollered for any help. Low and behold a lvl 70 hunter offered up and it was a wipe.....for them! Dont afraid to ask and be sure to offer yourself for later down the road. Makes the game all that better.

This was tough. First time I tried at about 42, I got crushed in the 2nd wave, so I had to re-collect the fangs and go again. This time I made it, although I did die in the 3rd wave. Key is to kill Mokk first and loot him before you die. I went back to rez and the 5 cronies were still there, so I never looted any of the other gorillas, but who cares. I found that the waves were only 5-8 seconds apart, so not a huge amt. of time to drink/eat. . .

LOL, this one is easy. Did this with a lvl 43 priest as a lvl 42 druid. Turned to dire bearform and took them out one by one while the priest healed. Had half the life left when all was done. Good xp and award.

Did this at 50 (Warrior) and it was rough. The easiest time I had was w/ a 43 Priest and I was able to stay in Battle Stance for the entire time 2H it. There really is only about 8 sec of "rest" between the waves of Gorillas - pretty rough.

It was a close one because I tend to draw aggro and do a good deal of threat. And no, I don't give a hoot if you disapprove of a gazeteer, because it might be helpful to rational players.

I did this because I had the requisite Gorilla fangs from Un-Goro Crater (the gotillas sit on about three mineral nodes, tending to run to Small Thorium). So I found the witch doctor easily enough (as you leave Booty Bay, stick to the road and look to the right before the Arena-- where the Elder Mistvale Gorillas congregate).

I buffed with scrolls and Crystal Spire, had an axe with Beastslaying that was sharpened, and had my Dog Trainer Gloves on (+20 Beast slaying). The first wave was a pushover: I did a Blood Rage going into it so I could Thunderclap. After the wave I had time to eat and almost healed up.

Second wave had a Konga, and knocked me down to about 25% Health. I had use a Superior Healing Potion so was unable to drink for the next fight. The wave with Mokk almost did me in. I sprang Retaliation and killed the big guy first, using everything from Rend to Mortal Strike (and keeping up the all-important Battle Shout, Demoralizing Shout, and Thunderclap on all of them). I did grab his heart, just in case I died. I was down to about 10 Health when the last gorilla was still swinging, so I hightailed it out of there. Good ol' Unbagwa finished him off.

The reward turned out to be slightly less good than the cape I was already wearing, so I vended it, but the Booty Bay reputation reward btought me to Honored. Can't beat that!

Managed to solo this at a 43 Blood Elf Paladin
Took 2 bubbles, lay on hands, greater health potion, jade owl trinket, dense healing stone and food/drink between fights.
On the final wave I just focused on the boss mob, looted him then died to the minions.
You still get the Quest Complete message once you lot the boss regardless of if you kill the rest of the monsters.

I'm protection specced, so I tanked all 3 groups, while the other pala healed me. I had a 42dps 2H instead of 1H+shield, and I had Reckoning pretty much contantly while in battle, so I was taking them out very quickly (about 5-10 seconds a mob) Probably didn't need the hunter, but they did some damage too.

Righteous Fury, Concecration, and Seal of Righteousness.

My Seal of Righteousness + Reckoning was giving me an average swing of abouut 400+ damage.

Good lord, took a twinked out level 50 hunter to just barely finish this quest. On the last pull I killed Mokk first and looted his body, then waited to die. This needs to be a group quest of at least 3 or more people.

Quest Aquisition
Fin Fizracket at 27,76 (under the overturned hull fragment) gives this quest. I am not aware of any pre-reqs other than level.

Quest Progress
First, aquire 10 Gorilla Fangs. (I know it's not in the quest description) These can be found on the Elder Mistvale Gorilla (lvl 40 to 41) on either side of the road right after you leave booty bay (after the bloodsail buccaneers turns), or more commonly (about 1/2) on the silverback's further east. (They can likely be found on other gorillas as well, but these are convinient.
Next, turn in the 10 Gorilla Fangs to Witch Doctor Unbagawa (34, 61).
He will summon 3 (or 4, I think 3 though) waves of 4-5 gorillas about lvl 40-41. The mobs will not agro him, but he will agro the mobs, so a useful strategy if you're short handed is to let them attack him before you've agrod them, then attack w/ the lvl 42 assisting you. Keep in mind though that you must keep him alive until he summons the last wave.
In the third wave, a white gorilla will attack; this is your target mob. He is not notably more difficult than the others (maybe a lvl higher), so the strategy for the prior two waves should suffice.

Keep in mind that the waves occur at about 5 second intervals. This means if you are not notably overpowered, you are best off eating/drinking, or channeling whatever you need between battles instead of looting/skinning.

Quest Completion
The turn-in is at Fin Fizracket, 27,76, sleeping under the upside down hull. At level 47 I got 5850xp, 500 faction w/ booty bay, and 500 lost with bloodsail buccaneers. The cloak you receive is also nice (vendor trash for me), but you can read on that elsewhere :-)

I almost certainly reposted the information posted by others. I did this to consolidate into one posting which does not contain superflous information, and to increase ease of locating that information.

I use coordinates to specify locations, as these are more accurate and take less time than a description of the location. (search google for wow mods, and you'll find more than you can deal with. ctmod, and cosmos are two hugely popular)
If you don't want to install a mod (for some really bizarre reason), the coords are representations of the percent across the screen lat and long. So 0,50 would be the left border, halfway down the screen.

With the last patch 2.3 now you only get one wave of apes. With Mokk in the middle. It is way to easy now. Completed it at level 44 got over 8000 xp from it.

Ran this for first time tonight as level 40 Shaman. Reading previous notes, I actually grinded Gorillas for 90 minutes to get 10 then joined up with a lvl 42 mage, we both went in expecting waves of gorillas and expected failure, but a fun fight - I set totems, he buffed and made lifestones, I got on the windfury and healing...

/Oz slapping self in head...this q has TOTALLY changed, a 40 can run it easy...

Location of cave, as previously mentioned is approx 34,61 (the first cave icon you see on the map to the east of the road out of Booty Bay).

You now only need 1 as opposed to the previous 10.

The fangs drop from the Elder Gorillas around the cave location (and there are plenty of Elder Gorillas).
Bring the one fang to the Witchdoc in the cave and let him summon.

There are no longer waves of mobs, matter of fact, you may stand around after the summoning wondering if anything happened.

About 8-10 seconds later a (single) lvl42 gorilla runs in - with the witchdocs help, obvious easy kill.

Then, about 10 secs later, a 43 runs in, another obvious kill.

About 10 secs after that, your lvl44 target runs in, again, a 'gimme' kill. You get the heart.

Note, once the guy in my group got his drop and ditched (without a 'thanks' or 'catch ya later') I decided to stick in the cave - Solo'd it at lvl40 3x times with no prob what-so-ever. With myself and Witchdoc attacking, don't think my health ever dropped below 50% (and had plenty of heal times between mobs). The mob had no real drops once I had gotten the heart, just able to skin each time for heavy leather.

It seriously should no longer be a red quest at 40. But, saying that, the 8,600 experience made up for the 18,467 years I spent grinding for Skullsplitter tusks :)

The Cave isn't hidden!

Just go to Eastvale valley (kill the goriilas in your way and take at least one fang).

North of the vale there is a cave called Spirit Den, its there!

The witch doctor is located in the Spirit Den at 35,60. The quest doesn't tell you this, but he won't let you do anything until you get 1 gorilla fang. If you're lucky, maybe you have one from an earlier quest. It took me about 10 kills to get anything, then I got mobbed by 2 gorillas and ended up with 2 fangs.

Once you have the fang, go back to the Witch Doctor and he'll get the gears going. First comes a level 42 gorilla, then a level 43, then Mokk, who is level 44. The Witch Doctor (level 42) helps you kill them and you have plenty of time if you need to heal between the three kills.

Easy cheese.

LOL managed to solo this as a 43 Hunter. Collected the 10 gorilla fangs then went to the cave to see the bloke. Managed the first wave of 3 lvl 41 gorillas, but with 20% and 30% mana and health left. 2nd wave came, 3 lvl 41 gorillas and konga lvl 42. Dead after taking one out. Went back for corpse and they still in cave even tho the guy is dead. Took out konga and I'm dead again. Went back, this time 5 gorillas including mok. Pet and ranged Mok, looted him, cast thunderstomp and got out alive. Pet didnt make it....

If you begin the quest, beware or ninja's. Anyone can loot the heart. Blizzard dropped the ball on this one, allowing someone to stand on the sideline while you battle, then swoop in and ninja the heart.

34:61 is the mouth of the cave

Make sure you bring 10 gorilla fangs with you , easy to get on the way

This was glitched for me , I did it but he didn't take the fangs and I did it a second time for fun . He still didn't take the fangs . But I completed the quest

Patch 2.3 the boss is no longer elite . After you give the fangs to the witch doctor ( or not as in my case , lol) he summons Mokk.

Stay in the cave and the WD will help you kill them

For me 3 waves of 1 gorilla each wave , lvl 41 , 42, 43 respectively

Time to heal between waves , too easy actually. Bit dissapointed this used to be a beauty.

This has been updated. 3 waves. 1st wave has a lvl 42 Enraged Silverback. 2nd wave has Kondo which is 43 and 3rd wave is Mokk the Savage which is 44. 1 gorilla fang is needed but it's not a 100% drop on the heart so you might have to do it again although it's easily solo'd at 42-43.

Just solo'ed this with a 41 Pally.

I knew what to expect, as I've done it on my Druid once before.

Anyone who can take on 4x mobs at a time, of level 40-42, can do this. Just remember, to buff up, eat/drink quick between waves, and on the third wave kill Mokk, loot him, then run. You don't need to kill the whole last wave, just so long as you get the heart.

Note: I should probably mention, I am Protection Spec'ed, twinked with 'Ardent Custodian' and 'The Green Tower' and still had to use Lay On Hands a Mana Pot and a Heal Pot.

After those 2 waves, the 3rd wave is the npc you need, he is level 44.

I managed to solo most of this as a 43 pally with some decent gear. Used LoH and 1 major health pot. Got to last wave killed Mokk and then wiped from the ones that were left. But hey I held my own and got his heart!

Hey, I just beat this at 44 on my hunter.

Some key things about the waves that assault you.

Wave 1
3 lvl 42 Gorillas, enrage right before they die.

As soon as I beat the first wave, the next came. Either it is on a timer or it is triggered by beating the first wave.

Wave 2
4 Lvl 41 Gorillas and a 43 named Gorilla

This one was hectic. I had to use everything I had and In the end, I beat this wave with about 13 health left and my pet about the same.

When this wave fell, there was about a 15 second pause so I sat and ate/drank.

Wave 3

Mokk the Savage, 44 Gorilla and 5 lvl 41 Gorilla buddies

I killed Mokk as the other 5 gorillas beat on the witchdoctor and eventually killed him. Grabbed the heart, and zoom!

This is a hard quest, if you can't take out 8ish mobs 40+ in almost back to back waves, then get help. Peace.

i did this easily as a 42 hunter along with a 45 hunter. we collected the gorilla fangs and summoned the gorilas. first wave has like 3 gorillas lvl 41. second has like 5 or 6. then the next wave has about another 5 and mokk. coordinates were good, at 34, 61. overall easy for a couple pple to do

Ok.. this is super easy now. First, after gathering one (that's right, ONE) fang, you go to the cave (34, 61). After you agree to protect the troll, you are attacked in 3 waves. This is now an exagerration since the first "wave" is a single 41 gorilla, the second wave is a single 43, and then Mokk is the third wave weighing in at a whopping lvl 44.

It seems that it does not matter who starts the quest, only who kills Mokk the Savage and is able to loot his heart.

I was taking a friend (mage) to the cave to start the quest (I had farmed the gorilla fangs before she came on) and an Undead warlock was already there talking to the witchdoctor (we're both human).

I thought, "oh well, we'll just wait until this person is done". But then the first wave of gorillas washes over us. I cast Blessing of Protection on her and tell her to run and let this guy do the quest, but she just starts nuking as soon as the bubble is off. I was unhappy to say the least (thinking that we were basically doing the quest for someone else, a Horde no less) but hung in there to keep her alive (I'm a paladin). I have to heal her alot because she's pulling the whole group on her every time she casts. I get in my licks and consecrate alot to get the whole group, all the time thinking this is a waste of time because we were not the ones to start the quest.

Well, we get to the end of the last wave and my friend is able to loot the heart off Mokk. I didn't know you could do that (if you were not the one to start the quest). I don't know if the Undead could loot it or not (his pet was in there fighting but I didn't see him cast a single spell). I specifically did not engage Mokk because I didn't want it to look like I was KS'ing his quest target (really I was just trying to not get killed or let my friend get killed).

So I guess it doesn't matter who starts the quest, even an opposing faction member or someone not in your group.

Seems to me Blizz should make it so that only the person who starts the quest and their group should be able to loot the heart. Just seems fair.

incredably easy to solo with lock ... did this lvl 41(full affliction) and had no problems.

First wave is easy void on one target fear other dot all up and kill them one by one.

Next wave (5 mobs /4 lvl 41 1 lvl 43) sent my void in used suffering dottet the 43 up , feared One run in howl of terror dotting them one by one life tap dark pact and nuking them one by one keeping one feared. at the end when there was only one mob left i bandaged life tap so i had some more hp mana had nothing left...

In the break before last wave drink and health only managed to get mana up to 40 % before they spawned. sent my void on mokh suffering, dot dot dot, howl of terror, nuke him totaly loot his corpse sacrefice void and run tha hell out of there..

This is pretty tough to solo, but I accidentally discovered something that makes it easier. After handling the first two waves, I was out of mana and nearly dead, so I ran away from the third wave with Mokk in it. Once I was out of combat, I drank and ate to full, then went back to start the event over and try again. Turns out, Mokk and his friends were still there beating on Unbagwa. They were all still hurt from my initial damage, and it was easy to AoE them down. It would have been even easier to single-target Mokk. Being able to leave combat and recuperate while the event is still going makes it much easier.

If Unbagwa dies, he'll respawn after a while, but you will need another 10 Gorilla Fangs to summon the waves again.

Wow this quest is by far the most difficult quest I've ever attempted on wow, have previously raided ICC through to DS but geeeze this brings challenging to the next level, would NOT recommend till atleast lvl 50 but more realistically 55 or 60 if you've got <1000 hours played..

Easily solo'd as a 45 enh shaman. The next wave doesn't spawn until the current wave is all dead, so what you can do is just kill all the gorillas except one, and just leave that one alive while you regen mana / heal. With 1h + shield, Mail armor and Stoneskin totem, they don't hit very hard at all. Once the last wave comes, burst down Mokk as fast as you can, then just Earthbind the rest of the gorillas and run away with ghost wolf. Ez clap

As a 46 rogue, I did have a couple issues staying alive for the second and third waves. However, death is not the end of this quest. During the second wave I was down to one gorilla before I was finished off. As soon as I died, I ran back to the cave in ghost form and got back in time to see Unbagwa still fighting that same gorilla. I resurrected and finished it off, and tried getting ready for the third wave.

Third wave comes in and I get killed off with four gorillas left, unable to kill Mokk before I died. As the first death, I quickly ran my way back to the cave in ghost form. This time, Unbagwa was killed by the gorillas, but they were still in that cave. So I resurrected, quickly bandaged myself, and went right after Mokk. I looted the heart and bolted from the cave.

So if you're having issues soloing this quest, just remember that if you die, it's not necessarily over. Just make haste back to the cave and continue the fight if the gorillas have not despawned.

Soloed with 44 Undead Frost mage on second pull. Survived with 28hp after killing only Mokk in 3rd wave...during 2nd wave one gorilla evaded and went fighting Unbagwa. This probably saved me

TBC Classic

Easily soloed around level 41/42. It only requires 1 gorilla fang to start the event, and it only spawns a single non-elite 41 gorilla, then a level 43 non-elite gorilla (Konda) and then Mokk the Savage, who is a 44 non-elite.

In TBC this is infinitely easier than it used to be.

You only need 1 Gorilla Fang to start the waves at the Witch Doctor.

The waves are now only 1 gorilla in each:
1st wave: 1 Enraged Silverback Gorilla
2nd wave: Konda
3rd wave: Mokk the Savage

This was easily done solo with level 44 Warlock.

All coords in previous comments are obviously still good.

This bugged for anyone else in TBC Classic? I have now completed the 3 waves multiple times and am able to complete the quest, but no XP credit.

Did this solo on HC today, Would definitly never do this solo, first 3 are around lvl 40/41, managed to kill them as a prot pala, heal and mana up with seals before the 2nd wave, concecrationed, target dummied, dynamited and lay on handsed the 2nd wave, barely made it, third wave i target dummied, pulled with a grenade, attacked mokk (leashed) and let the others reset, then solo'd Mokk, This is by far the silliest thing ive done on hc, would deffo recommend others to not do the same, take a couple friends, definitly have a tank or 2 hunter pets and good aoe.
