Took me forever to find the Blood Elves, having never been to Azshara before. I didn't check the exact Coordinates, but the blood elves are northeast of the tower, past the Timbermaw camps. Careful running through here if you aren't neutral with the Timbermaw.

Also, theres a quest you can get from a goblin on a hill that will have you killing elves in their camp. You look around for boxes...I had a group of 4 and about the time my last dust dropped I got the last chest drop for the goblin's quest.

The elves are at Thalassian camp, which is up on a hill. 55,26 puts you at the base of the hill near the very first mobs.

I killed 32 elves to get my 10 dust.

Be careful pulling here, because the Blood Elves aggro at a VERY long distance. Use Fire Ward and depending on your spec your Ice Barrier to absorb the brutal caster damage. Also have Counterspell ready to ward off their attempts to heal themselves.

As a level 50 Frost Mage, I didn't see any problems with this quest. They don't aggro from a really big distance (not as worst as some other monsters), they're easy to kill.

The hardest part was obviously when I tried to get there the first time :p

The Blood Elves can be found in north-eastern Azshara, in the area called Thallassian Base Camp. There are two types:

Blood Elf Surveyors - https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=6198

and

Blood Elf Reclaimers - https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=6199

The surveyors are melee fighters, but can cast fire nova. The reclaimers are ranged casters, with fireball, renew and heal spells available to them. In their camp you can find the crates needed for another quest; Kim'jael Indeed! - https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=3601 . The elves never drop more than one unit of glittering dust each, and the droprate is definately lower than 50 percent (this may of course wary).

If you are at best unfriendly with the Timbermaw they will not attack you and you will have safe runs through them for both series of quests. To achieve unfriendly you only have to complete.

Pair up with Kim'jael Indeed! & Betrayed. Kim'jael Indeed! is picked up at 53.4,21.8 in Azshara & Betrayed is picked up at 75,33

The Glittering Dust can be looted from Blood Elf Reclaimers and Blood Elf Surveyors around 55,29. Drop rate is close to 50%.

Something that bothers me is when people make general statements like "the drop rate is 50%". Very often this is not the case.

I killed 47 mobs for the 10 drops, roughly 21%. Be prepared to clear the mountain (path starts at 55,27) and the camp on the north side (58,28) almost twice to get your 10. I had one rare and two uncommon items drop in the time, so it was a good 15 minutes spent. Good luck!

i did this at 50 as frost spec and they drop like flies, especially the casters
however, keep ice barrier up at all times because the casters hit particuarly hard
the droprate wasn't too bad, took me a bit more than 30 mins to finish

i'm not sure about any of you but when I stayed on the lower part of the camp and didn't go up the hill every time i killed a blood elf i got the dust. Not sure if i was lucky or what.

For those without coordinates, the camp is at the small ruins symbol about halfway across the top of the "C" created by the bay. I got 10 drops in about 20 kills.

After looking for ages I found him! lol his name is Sanath Lim-Yo and he ports you up to Xylem. His coord's for me were at 28,50. Hope this helps somebody.

The Blood Elves can be found around 56,30 (NE of center of map). The drop rate isn't that great though.

For those having trouble navigating Azshara because of the cliffs and different altitudes it has, like I did, here's a tip.

You need to travel all the way out of the Ruins of Eldarath. That means west until the ground rises to its normal height, where the first fork in the road is (the one at (29, 56)). Azshara can get confusing because of the three different ground levels: the standard ground level, the next lowest level (represented by an orange color on the map), and the coastline level (represented by a blue color on the map).

To reach the Blood Elves at Thalassian Base Camp, you need to stay on the highest ground level. Follow the cliffside northwards, which eventually opens up east of Timbermaw Hold and Ursolan.

I figured this out the hard way by trying to swim to the coordinates listed above, then wasting lots of time as well as four or five deaths trying to backtrack.

For the directionally challenged (like me), here are the easiest possible instructions for finding the blood elf camp:

Go up (north) in a STRAIGHT line from Sanath (28, 50) to 56, 30. You should be passing on the left side of the Ruins of Eldarath, and DON'T go off any cliffs/ mountainsides to your right. You should have no problems getting to the camp.

Very good quest, i solo'd as a 50 Frost Mage no problems, just watch out for the reclaimers because when you kill them, they get to around 30% and heal themselves back up to around 75% - 90% but the surveyors are ok, they dont heal. 5100xp for that quest, and i killed about 13 of them and got 10 magic dust.

For those of you that don't have coordinates addon, check the screenshot of the map, or go to the Thalassian Base Camp which is roughly due east of Timbermaw Hold.

Quest is pretty straightforward. You'll encounter two kinds of mobs; Blood Elf Surveyors and Blood Elf Reclaimers.

Blood Elf Surveyors seem to have an aggro range that's a bit larger than average. Apart from that there isn't much to them, except for the fact that they will do a Fire Nova every once in a while, which you can take care of with a Counterspell, Fire Ward or simply blinking out of range.

Blood Elf Reclaimers are a bit tricker. They have heals and fireballs at their disposal. You'll furthermore find that some of them are level 53, making them orange for a level 50 mage. Anyway, how to handle these - You'll want to save your counterspell for when they attempt to heal. So basically, pop a Fire Ward to absorb their fireballs, nuke them down to 40-30%, interrupt their heals and finish them off.

Oh, and is it just me, or is it a bit... wrong that Hordies are sent off to kill Thalassian Blood Elves? >.>

Did this quest as a lvl 50 mage. Just need to watch out not to aggro too many mobs, fireward and arcane missiles saved my evening ^_^

The next quest in the series is easy and leads to the Sunken Temple, to kill and easy dragon (flies in pair), but the reward is good, choice between 1 trinket, 1 necklace or 1 dagger.

This quest is not Horde only, it is available to Alliance mages too.

The camp is on the north part of the coast if you don't have coords, the mobs have quite a large aggro range and they're a mix of casters(fire, use counterspell!) and melees. Drop rate is too easy.

Did this quest as a level 50 Firemage.
Alliance need not bother with the quest called Betrayed as that is Hordeside only.

killed 8 Surveyors which dropped 6 dust.
killed 9 Reclaimer which dropped 4 dust.

I got an average of 650 xp per kill(325 rested bonus)
Quest reward was 5100 xp
so a total of 16150 xp which is pretty neat for 10 minutes work :)

Ps. Do not trust the droprates reported here as they contain kills by people who did not have the quest so it will be incorrect.

As of 3/25/08 the drop rate is still bad. My calculations put it at around 25%. Good XP though. Also good if you already have the 3rd tier quest of "Betrayed".

they must have changed the drop rates as this quest took me around 20mins. Lvl 53 frost mage.

I tried this quest as a level 50 (frost spec) and had a horrible time. Many times I used every last bit of Mana and almost died many times too. I went back as a level 52 mage (still frost) and breezed right through. The drop rate still is bad, but I was able to kill more mobs in a shorter time, which made the drop rate seem better.

piece of cake for 51 frost mage.

kills:

Surveyors: 8 kills, 3 drops

Reclaimers: 13 kills, 7 drops (total 21 kills for the 10 drops)

mobs range from 51 to 53, mostly 52's. Surveyors have high aggro range, melee and will cast fire nova. Reclaimers cast fireball, and will also self-heal. I used Fire Ward and saved counterspell for their heal attempts. All of them go down fast when hit, they don't have many hit points. I only needed 1 circuit around the camp to complete the quest. turned in for 5100, leads to another L52 solo quest involving the sirens near the beach.

Oh yes.. This is a very simple quest.. If I wasn't killed by a bloodelf pala all the time.. Damn I spent much time running from the spirit healer to my corpse.. x(
But yes., there are a lot of runecloth.. :D

i completed on 4/5/08 and I killed 26 blood elves to get my 10 dusts. I dont think thats a bad drop rate at all. AT lvl 50 I was getting about 350xp per kill unrested

These guys have a nice heal spell, I'd save my counterspell for that if you can.

I have tried to take this quest several times and it tells me FAILED every time as soon as I get it. First time the game wasn't registering the first few dusts I picked up so I looked and sure enough it said failed.

My partner got it and it worked just fine, she got the quest at exactly the same time. I logged out and re-got it, left the group and re-got it, and each time it is FAILED as soon as I get it.

I have a ticket open...I will quote what the dumass GM says soon as I hear from them (typically it takes HOURS for the !@#$%^&s to respond).

The elf camp is E of Ursolan and SE of Legash Encampment. The drop% sucks but decent loot drops and decent XP.

I don't know if Blizzard changed anything or not, but I just completed this quest and the drop rate was very good. 85% I would guess. Fire ward was definitely a great help! Completed quest ...10 min.

When I sent my apprentice to trade for the dust, he was killed without hesitation. For that, they must pay.

The time for talk is over, <name>. Find the blood elves along the cliffs of Azshara and use more "persuasive" methods to acquire their glittering dust.
