To enter the masters cellar you go down 2 sets of stairs. The first takes you into a cave system where you can gather the pond sample, the water being easily noticeable on the minimap.

The second set of stairs is directly next to the first and takes you into a cellar system. This takes time so dont try to rush it. Each section of stairs and landing has 3 mobs, 1 in either alcove and one on the mini-landing. Pull the mob from the landing and then 'hug' the wall on one side so you only have to kill 2 of the three.

When you get to the bottom there is a X-roads, take the right passage which take you past wine racks, you will come to another room and the well can be found on the right.

I advise doing this at 70 for the gold, 11g99s reward. Can easily collect the 10 items for the other quest the quest giver gives you.

Karazhan is one of the high end dungeons in The Burning Crusade & can be found in Deadwind Pass (in Azeroth).

Part 1 :

I found parts of these descriptions horrible so let me explain the 2 stairs part.

In the small collection of ruined houses, there are 2 houses that broken walls and foundation only. They are both across the path from each other. One leads to the cave system with the pond. One leads to the cellar with the well. Both have ghosts. The pond and well are pretty easy to find in each.

The Lake is down the staircase in the house at 47,77. You keep going down until you find a bunch of water, and thats when you use your provided quest item.

The Well is Right across the road to the east of that. You go down the staircases until you hit the big square room. Go north until you find another big room, that's where the well is and is where you also have to use your provided quest item.

You cannot continue the Karazhan attunement quest until you finish this quest and Restless Activity, the other quest that Archmage Alturus gives you.

After going down the stairs to the first large room, you go SOUTH not north. South is just a room with 4-5 mobs in it and some large barrels in the back.

After going south, down a long hall with wine racks on both sides, to the next large room the well is just inside to the right. Also a small note, do not try to LoS pull mobs with the wine racks down the long hall as they will evade bug in the rack.

Just to make this even more clear....

In the middle of the town as you approach the tower, there is a short road off to the left (south). Near the end of this side road, there are two buildings burnt down to their foundations. One is on the right, and one is on the left. If you look carefully, each foundation has a staircase leading down. The stair on the right leads to the pond. The stair on the left leads to the well.

It is possible to solo this quest, but slow and painful. The ghosts are all single pulls, with a few long patrols thrown in. Each single pull is not too tough. The problem is that they take a while too kill. If you take too long, the respawns will catch up with you, and you'll be in trouble, and there's no chance of running away (unless you're a rogue, of course). So, you have to keep killing and moving fast enough to stay ahead of the respawns.

There's also no room to maneuver. While you can solo-pull the mobs, the slightest screwup means that you'll get one or two more.

There is one dangerous wraith mob that casts shadow bolts that hit for nearly 1000. That hurts, so use silence and interruption effects on that one.

Skip the mobs you don't have to kill. Consider elixirs or other consumables to increase your DPS. Be prepared to deal with adds. Bring potions and bandages. Bring good food and water so you can recover quickly after each fight. Bandage yourself and your pets instead of healing or eating to save time and mana.

Better yet, just bring a friend with you. Two 70's would have an easy time of it, and your guild wants you to get keyed, so someone will probably be willing to help.

While you are doing this quest, you can do "Restless Activity" as well.

The Caretakers have a 100% drop rate.

Take first right, ( the only right/the long hallway. You should be pointing South now. 53,90 is where the well is located, on the right in the square room.

Keep going straight, it looks like it drops off but it doesn't, so go ahead and walk down what appears to be a ramp. Yes, you can get back up the same way. Go right as soon as you get down the ramp, and keep going around it. There is no need to jump off the ledge. You will see the pond in front of you at the end of this. Go anywhere in it and click on the crystal in your inventory.

I completed it at 44,77.

If you're a warlock, prepare for a little frustration. The Unliving residents have improved kick which shuts down a magic school for 6 seconds. It has a 6 seconds (or no) cooldown which means they can chain it on occasion. I've had both my schools locked at the same time.

If you've got a Felguard then you should be okay, but affliction/destro be careful. Probably best to use a voidwalker.

Take a friend or even 2 for the well side...pond is easy & soloable....the well is a ghost agro nightmare...and they repop faster than you can get in an out...

I just soloed this as a 70 hunter, and getting to the pond was cake. But when I had to go to the well, it was rough. The mobs you wave through seem to hit pretty hard and for me, by the time I had gotten past the hallway, some of the other mobs I killed were already re-spawning. Or of course if you're a rogue or druid, you could stealth it through.

with my shaman i just took all my clothes off when i went to get the well and just died somethimes (about 5times) but it didnt took much time, and no risk of dieing and getting repair bills at all, its imo the fastest way

Getting the well sample is a pain in the ass, especially so if you're soloing. Here's what I did... Just take off all equipments and run straight to the well. Turn right after you make it down the stairs. You'll die a couple of times but you won't suffer durability loss. Much faster than having to kill 20 mobs.

If you're a priest remember you have Shackle Undead, very useful incase you pull 2 mobs. Using Shackle I had no trouble at all getting to the well solo as a 70 discp/holy priest.

Ok the easiest way to do this is to go into the caves and take off all your gear and dismiss any pets. Then you go to the areas you need, and then die becuase uve pulled half the cave. Now when you rez take reading run as fast as you can and keep your equiment off. Then just repeat for each cave takes a little time but you dont lose mass durability :)

As a rogue it was no trouble.

Just stealth straight to the well, get near the corner, but close enough to use the crystal. If you get attacked just vanish.

Stealth straight to the pond, and to make it faster jump through the holes in the ground, since the pond is at a lower level of the ground and you won't get damage. Use the crystal and you should be completely safe if you stay away from the ghosts. The pond is large enough for you to use the crysal and stay out of the ghost's sight.

I did this quest, and my rogue friend who needed these quests too came along, we couldn't get the underground well/pond reading for some reason, we would click on the crystal and nothing would happen. after we left party we were able to do, so just heads up - you can't do this quest in a group, lol. very strange

The coordinates are correct and spot on, indeed one stairwell is in the ruin on the western side of the street and the other the eastern. The eastern one leads to the well which is the more challenging of the two. As said above here are 2 mobs on each side 3 times until one reaches the main room. These will aggro (both) if you stroll down the stairs without taking care. In the central room (watch the alcoves...) clear to the right and take the hallway south (the long one), the well is in the room at the end. These mobs tend to have large aggro radii.

For the pond it is a similar setup to so many of the caves in WoW, just spirals down until the pond is in front.

This is not an especially easy couple of quests but it is possible to solo (I have a mage) it just requires a little caution and patience. Actually, a lot of caution and patience.

Those mobs spawn quickly, burst shadowdmg in 3-digit numbers. The humans kick when you cast and are linked with the caster. Bring lots of food and bandages.

Really the only thing I found difficult about this was all of the aggressive allies in the area. Other than that the quest is pretty straight forward. As noted earlier, don't rush, just take your time and you'll be fine.

solo'd 68 warlock. had to soulstone up once. used felhunter on the caster ghosts cause he can resist the hits and boost my resistances too. made it with 1.5 minutes left to spare as blizz initiated a server restart as i was nearing the well. almost would have had to go postal at that point.

OK well for me the hardest part is all of the Alliance. If you're on a PvP server then you know that Alliance outnumber us Horde everywhere, so most likely you will find a bunch outside doing nothing but griefing people. I spent almost one hour just trying to GET TO the quest npc and never did. I gave up and hearthed. If this is your situation, where you are being griefed, your best bet is to go in the morning (server time) when there are hardly any raids and most of the Alliance kids are asleep or in school. I say this because the subsequent quest parts are right near there so if they're bothering you trying to simply pick up the quest, you will suffer even more trying to complete it.

Besides that, it's not hard if you take your time and pull them to where you are, as opposed to engaging them directly where they spawn. That will minimize the risk of adds. As others said, this is best done with a partner. Just makes it a lot easier. That is unless you go in the evening when waiting list raiders are outside bored and camping you...

In answer to noscryage - the reason I had difficulty initially was that I was in a raid group. You can't complete either of these quests (or most others) when in a raid. Check it and leave the party and it whould work fine

This quest(s) can be both easy and hard depending. Its not extremely difficult to solo. The mobs hit rather hard (especially the casters) aren't spaced very far, and have quick respawn timers. But if you pay close attention to your surroundings its not to difficult to pull all of them singly with a little timing. If you find it to be overly difficult, find a friend, everyone has at least one. Two people can shred this place easily.

Just southeast, very close to the quest NPCs, there are 2 holes in 2 broken house foundations with staircases in them. They are across the 'street' from each other. The northern entrance is east of the fully constructed barricaded inn-type building, the southern one is south it.

The pond is in the northernmost entrance down. There's a ramp to a cave area. The pond should be obvious on the map.

The well is a little bit tricker. It's in a totally different part of the cellar than the pond, so you have to go totally back out to the broken foundations again to get to it. Go into the entrance directly to the south of the first one. After you go down 2 flights of stairs with 3 ghosts on each, stick to the right through the first room and go down the hallway. After the first room, go down the hallway which looks sort of like a wine cellar. The well is on the right in the room with the huge beer kegs, just out of sight for the hallway.

BOTH entrances are indeed opposite each just NORTH by Northeast of the npc that gave you the quests.East/West sides of the street.Go down each hallway and at the base of BOTH go right,follow around and you come upon a well for 1 and you'll SEE a large underground 'pond' lake on your left for the 2nd.This really isnt hard just the amount of mobs and semi fast repop times can be an issue for those that dont pay attention,arent careful and/or just rush in blindly.

Ok it was 4am and I couldn't find the entrances for these 2 locations for about 10 minutes. So I am pointing out the "obvious" to others incase they need it.
The 2 stairs to get to these 2 places are in the 2 half busted up houses right in front of Archmage Alturus...

When you get to the next room, the well is on your right hand side.

Walk down the stairs and follow the path. When you get to the bridge, jump down to your left. The water infront of you is the pond you're looking for.

As usual some are posting wrong info, the entrances to the cellars are opposite each other, at 48.78, they are east, south east of quest giver, easy to do, respawn rate is high, have to fight in and out.

I soloed it on my 70 fire mage. Previous comments about caution and patience are 100% accurate. Pet less casters cannot avoid multiple pulls, because mobs out of your line of sight will aggro to you. The exit is if anything more difficult than getting to the water. The previously mentioned respawn rate high enough that its hard to find places to safely pull from. I experienced multi respawns on top of me while I was killing my way out.

Co-ords are precise and accurate.

On a previous toon (also a fire mage) I ran this with a Lock. It was a cake walk, and pretty much would have been with any other class along. So the simplest, quickest, and easiest solution is to take a friend.

Update: Ran this with another fire mage to help him with attunement. Other than the rogue who got his jollies ganking us while he waited for his Kara run this was a walkover. Like I said - take a friend.

The Master's Key (Guide)

To enter Karazhan, you must first do a string of quests to get a working key, much like attunement from earlier times. The key can be gotten by following questline which starts with Archmage Alturus (48,76) of Violet Eye just outside Karazhan:

Arcane Disturbances (47,75)
Alturus sends you on a quest with a to take readings inside the Master's Cellar just nearby — go down each passage, do your work, and return to him.

Contact from Dalaran (47,75)
NOTE: To begin this quest you also need to complete Restless Activity (53,79 / 50,79), which can be solved parallel with Arcane Disturbances

Khadgar (15,54)
Entry Into Karazhan (54,44)
The to be found in the Shadow Labyrinth at Auchindoun.

The Second and Third Fragments Terrace of Light of Shattrath City. (54,44)
The to be found in The Steamvault at Coilfang Reservoir. (Arcane Container)
The and last key part to be found in Arcatraz at Tempest Keep. (Arcane Container)

The Master's Touch
Take from the previous quest to Medivh at The Black Morass in the Opening the Dark Portal wing of the Caverns of Time and he will turn it into .

Return to Khadgar
Take the key and show it to Khadgar in Shattrath City.

The Violet Eye
Khadgar directs you to return to Alturus with the key and seek help from the Violet Eye who will then start giving you quests in Karazhan.

Well for pond u go down to the right, watch out for all ghosts if u solo it. the well is not in the same chamber. walk up again and just cross over to the other stepps to masters cellar and hold to the right and u easily find the well.. good luck

This quest is not easy, but it's not hard either, at least not for me. Solo'd as a 70 enhancement shaman. I can understand why some people would find it hard, but if you are patient, careful and at least a half decent player, you'll manage.

PS... not looking forward to doing this on my warrior.

Not as hard as people are making it out to be. Just go in pairs if you're that impatient you feel the need to rush through everything. . . i find that is often the problem with 'OMFG, this is hard!" quests from people, they rush it too much.

If a holy priest can do it, any class can imo.

Lake is a hole in one of the broken down buildings.
Well is in the other hole two feet to the east.

Shadow Labyrinth Key drop from The Talon King's Coffer located near Talon King Ikiss the last boss in Sethekks Halls.

6. The Second and Third Fragments.

Second Key Fragment drop from Second Fragment Guardian. This guy appear after interact with Arcane Container in The Steamvault.
Arcane Container is located before the first boss inside the water. After enter the dungeon go straight until reach the water.

Third Key Fragment drop from Third Fragment Guardian. This guy appear after interact with Arcane Container in The Arcatraz.
To enter into The Arcatraz you need someone with Key to the Arcatraz or a rogue with lockpick on the group.
Arcane Container is located on the room with Dark Elementals (right side), after the first boss.

7. The Master's Touch.
Go into The Black Morass Dungeon (Normal or Heroic) /way 57,5, 62,7 Entrance
Full run the dungeon (all 18 Time Rifs).
After kill the final boss return quest to Medivh.

8. Return to Khadgar. Return to Khadgar in Shattrath City and show him the Master's Key. Rewards: The Master's Key.

I'm trying to obtain an imprint of Karazhan's energy... for a personal project, of course. Unfortunately, I'm not getting anything up here. If I could get near an underground water source, my crystal would pick up the signals much more clearly.

I've heard of an underground pond as well as a well in a cellar below us. This whole place is crawling with ghosts however, and venturing there would be hazardous for someone my age. What do you say; will you help an old man and perform the scrying for me?
