So I finished this quest and he says, basically, that there is more to this whole totem of kar'dash thing but it's not something I can know about.

What's up with that? Rep requirement before the next step?

This escort quest is surprisingly hard and different from the usual. The moment you start it you get jumped by 5 mobs. Awhile later, you get jumped by 5 more. I did it in a pair, paladin/druid level 66 or so. Even then it was a bit tough.

As MisterP says, the ending of the quest is pretty disappointing.

I soloed this as a 66 Druid, just throw a regrowth on yourself and use Demoralizing roar + swipe to keep the mobs off the NPC, and use taunt when necessary.

If you fail this quest, and abandon it, you may not be able to start it back as of 02/22/07.
I talked to a GM and he said it was a known bug.
Edit: Apparently killing the guards around him is what triggers the Quest Giver "!" symbol. My mistake.

If no escort is in progress, you'll find him at 33, 42 inside of a hut in Sunspring Post. The quest was easily soloed with my 68 Paladin. Lower level Paladins should be fine as well.

The captive will not offer the quest until the two brutes in the room with him have been killed. If he happens to respawn when no brutes are present, it may look the like quest is bugged. Simply wait for the brutes to respawn, kill them, and then the captive should offer the quest.

Keep in mind also that your escort is only level 62, so keeping aggro off him is vital.

I had problems with this quest on both my druid and shaman, the captive would occassionaly stop and after a while despawn, in particular after having fought patrolling mobs.

I had the best luck when having cleared the path he takes from mobs beforehand.

As a 66 arms warrior I solo'd the escort. The first 5 mobs I held off with challenging shout, retaliation, and a super healing potion, then the next time I was jumped, the enemies that spawn ran to a group of other players, so I got lucky on that one.

Fair warning, he is hostile to Horde players, even non-flagged ones on PvE servers.

I do rather wonder if this Totem of Kar'dash is at all related to the Cudgel of Kar'desh (which was previously the SSC attunement quest). The Murkblood are collaborators with the naga, and found throughout Slave Pens, the Underbog and SSC. The Kar'desh/Kar'dash thing might have been as simple as a typo or two different Blizz employees writing out the quests and each spelling the name differently.

Regardless, I'd love to see a quest line spawn out of this (likely requiring exalted with the Kurenai given the completion text).

Just did this quest as a 67 Druid, and I failed multiple times before succeeding. My problem was never my own health, but the quest giver's. Keeping aggro is the key to succeeding, so if you always keep aggro on all enemies (in particular, keep an eye on the casters), you'll be fine.

Also, the Horde quest giver didn't seem to be attackable, at least not on a PvE server -- his nameplate had a red background, but it wasn't possible to attack him, and he didn't attack me.

Just completed this quest as a 65 Enhancement Shaman (Alliance) solo.

Before I started the quest, I dropped a Mana Spring/Grace Of Air totem. When I clicked Accept, I tossed down a Stoneclaw totem, picked a target, hit em with chain lightning, and immediately dropped a Fire Nova totem. The Stoneclaw kept the NPC from taking the first wave of attacks and gave me a chance to stun the NPCs. The chain lightning set me up with aggro and the Fire Nova totem wiped out the scavengers that spawn in the group. The makeup varies but you are most likely going to get one or two in the group and they have very little hp.

At the second ambush point (when you are at the "fence" and the soft unmarked fork in the path), I repeated the same process and was able to come out of it with 50% hp.

Key notes about the quest NPC:

~He casts a Chain Lightning that deals a considerable amount of damage and causes threat on up to 3 targets. Be aware that when he begins to cast this spell (lightning graphic) you'll have to be ready to pick up his aggro.

~He casts a healing wave on himself when he hits roughly 40%. He'll only do this once per wave so don't rely on it too heavily.

~He drops an Earthbind totem at about 80% hp and will continue to drop it as needed. If you are havin trouble keeping your HP up, kite the group a little bit, bandaid/heal, and jump back into the fray.

If you're a lazy shaman like me you can do this quest pretty easily by just blowing your summon elemental totems, one on each group. I used the Earth Elemental Totem inside the hut and by the time I reached the second ambush point the 2 minute shared cooldown with the Fire Elemental Totem was up so I dropped that one. They grab aggro very well.

EDIT - you need to be level 68 to be able to follow this strategy.

It bugged out for me the first try. He would summon a totem and then we'd kill all the mobs and the totem would stay up and he wouldn't move.

Okay, I get it, it's meant to be as it was and so on and so forth, but #somechanges hear me out.

Why can a Horde player attack this mob and NOT get flagged on a PvE server? I get that's the original quest, but surely that has to have been an oversight or a bug? I can't even defend him from an attack? The Horde quest has the same issue. It's kind of busted and one player can just stop your progress and you can do literally nothing about it.

I would have been killed had you not come along, stranger. They have already murdered so many Kurenai in their search for a lost relic.

What they seek is the totem of Kar'dash. Why they think that we would know anything about this totem, I cannot understand. Is a totem not an orcish implement by nature?

This information must be taken back to Arechron. Perhaps he knows why Murkblood are kidnapping Kurenai and torturing them for information regarding an orcish device.

Let's go before more come.
