how do you open the coffer? i know how to open the other 12 or whatever that are in the room, but how does the main one open? i have killed the boss in there and he didnt drop a key or anything. i need the blood of the tormented and cant get it

We got the key to the dark coffer by killing all the guys on the lower level of the bar. Its tough there is like 25 shadow casters down there not to mention the physical attackers. We got whipped once and killed the rest when we respawned. After we killed them all one of them dropped the key and we used it on the dark coffer which contained two of the items.

you also have to have opened all of the other coffers first

not true. you can view the photo to spawn the key keeper, kill him, and loot the dark coffer w/o opening any of the normal coffers.

I did all that open the vault and the blood was not in it!
I got the eye of kajal instead which is used for the libram of Tenacity

Is the black blood of the tormented random drop? anyone knows? or can I find it somewere else?

Phew! after 13 runs, finally got it. That 50% drop rate is such bull&*!@.

Its not that high because it drops half the time. It's that high because sometimes there is more than one Blood in the Coffer.

Kinda dumb though if there are two people that need it, considering they are stacked in there and they are BoP. I've picked up 2 out of it in one run.

Do you need 2 keys? One key to get into the room, and then another one for a box in there?
this thread is kinda confusing. Is this right: You can spawn a guy outside the room that drops a key to the room, then you need another key from Guzzler to open the main coffer with the Black Blood inside? Let me know if this is right

Depends on where the Dark Keeper spawns when you read the painting on whether or not you need the Shadowforge Key to get into the Dark Coffer.

Sometimes he spawns right in the Coffer room, sometimes he spawns in the Bar. Or a few other places.

We just did a short BRD run with 3 lvl 60 (feral druid, priest and warlock).
We only opened a few doors in the vault as we didn't have that many keys.
Then we took a look at the picture of the Key Keeper and looked him up at the Grim Guzzler (Varfolk it was).

The Black Coffer contained all 3 items needed for the Libram quests : Black blood of the tormented, Eye of Kahjal and Burning Essence.

Anyway, no need to open all doors in the vault to be able to open the dark coffer or get the key for the dark coffer.

Get a minimum of 2 rogues and 1 druid. The rogues go solo, each in 1 instance and sneak all way to portrait and open it to make it spawn. If they succesful, all group joins them in that instance, kill the mob, give the key to one of the rogues which will sneak all way nack to coffer and open it. good luck :)

Well i didnt' know this was possible but 2 burning essences's and 2 black bloods were in the coffer when i got it today. Total sweetness! I figured at best 1 of each item migth be in it but not 2 of each.

I noticed that the librams are unigue and i was wondering if after you read one and did the enchant if you could then read another so you could put same enchant onn legs and helm. I would think this would work, but wondered if any one had tried this.

This has nothing to do with the Heart of the Mountain quest where you need the Relic Coffer Keys.

This is a bop item from the Dark Coffer room in BRD. You get into the Coffer room, kill everyone in the room or be sneaky(see below), read the painting, & it tells you where the guy you need to kill is which can be in 1 of 6 spawn points usually not too far away(not always though). Kill the guy that spawns, loot the bop temporary key & unlock the Vault back in the Coffer room. About half the time you'll get a Black Blood of the Tormented.

Stealthed ways of opening the painting:

It's all about the mob closest to the painting. If you aggro him you aggro the whole room. If he's level 52 you can stand far enough away from him where you don't aggro him & open the painting. If you have a Rogue with imp sap, sap the guy closest to the painting. If you're able to you can kill him & Vanish. Sometimes he's 52, 53, or 54, & sometimes he's elite which makes it very hard.

About the 6 spawn points, they are all soloable, but 2 of them are very difficult. Ofgut in the Garrison spawns near General Angerforge which makes for a 6 elite mob fight. The Grim Guzzler one that appears in the bar room is far away & pretty hard cause if you don't clear the surrounding mobs the whole room aggros. It's quicker & best to just reset instance & get a better spawn point. Those are the 2 that I'd recommend resetting. The other spawn points should be easy.

On the way there:

Btw as a Rogue going through the Arena is not the best way. Without opening the Shadowforge gate stealth to the bridge & jump out the window to the right when you can't go any further. Make your way passed Incendius(kill him if you can, but after 1.10 he's harder) then make your way up the Hall of Crafting, go out the door & the Coffer room is the room next to it. It's much faster & there are no dogs to worry about.

Rogue soloing the other 4 spawn points:

1. The spawn point inside the coffer room can be done if you position yourself in the back of the room where you open the coffer box. Then use Distract on the keyholder to seperate him from the group. He's an easy 55 Elite caster.

2. The Arena spawn is easy, kill him + 2 guards(or just him & Vanish, he spawns far enough way from the spectators to not aggro others.

3. The Hall of Crafting spawn is him + 2 guards again, just make sure you don't start till the fire elemental goes away(or kill it first).

4. The domicile spawn is same thing, just be careful of the dog when entering. They are in a little hideaway room by the corner.

The reason it is a 50% drop is because the other 50% is for a mat for the libram of resilence, the burning essence. It would be nice if both dropped both times, but we are not this lucky.

This item is used for the Libram of Rumination enchantment quest. It is not used for anything else.

The Libram of Rumination book itself is unique.

The Gizzard Gum which is also needed for the enchantment is also unique.

So why does this item STACK IN LOTS OF FIVE!

ya wel i run it 3 times these last 2 days for a 60 pervent drop and it hasnt droped so im quite anoyed

For one, these things are NOT SEVENTY PERCENT DROP RATE! It took me 7 Solo BRD Coffer runs to finaly see 2 of these drop from the chest. This process takes a while to get used to, and is VERY challenging for anyone around 60-65. 65+ should have no problem with BRD at all.

Tips:
- For one, do not open the lock to the door unless you have to, and the ONLY time you will have to is when the key holder is in the west garrison. (Once you open the lock with your shadowforge key, you cannot go back and forth through the big double doors)
- Lesser Invisibility pots are a god-send for getting past where fineous and his rock buddies are.
- Either be a Rogue or a Hunter, because any other class I don't think can handle this place. Perhaps a good Feral Druid, but if you are none of these, do not try this until you are at least 65 (due to vanish, stealth, and feign death advantages).
- Study and familiarize yourself with BRD before you start to get serious about farming for these damned things. Certain things you can only pick-up when you do this for yourself.

I tried to get my 70 shammy all the way to the dark coffer, and ended up dying in the Grim Guzzler when I tried to drop beers to clear some of them and got 6 instead of 1... fire/earth pets were on CD so I couldn't use 'em, else I would have... I think no matter what you are, having a group helps alot more than trying to solo anything, as long as you're the only one who has/needs the libram, of course!

Soloable these days by even a portection specced warrior tank at 70. Not too surprising considering an epixxed up tank can handle 10 60 elites at once. Usually just to help a friend though.

BIG WARNING: This item is BoP but white, so IF you go with a group make sure no one accidentally loots it before you get to it.

I started to try BRD for this while my Holy Pally was 56, meaning I got in groups with other 50 something's that usually resulted badly. Truth is, most people don't have twinks meaning most people are unfamiliar with the whole Dark Keeper/Dark Coffer thing. And since the Dark Keeper could spawn in a number of different locations, the group was not always willing to do it.

I ran it again with my guild while in the mid-60's, twice, with no drop. Having spent a good amount of time there, I didn't ask them to run it a third time.

I hit 70 and stopped playing my twink for a while, so this item and the libram were off my mind. Then a new guild member joins and wants to run BRD. I say sure, but try to get a group so we do it faster. Can I solo the place? Yeah, but I also pick where I get aggro and can sneak past most. With a 51, we have to clear all. So needless to say we are absolutely housing, I'm heal-tanking for them and we're doing quite well.

I told the group before I even started going to BRD that this item was the only thing I wanted. When we killed the Dark Keeper and got his key, I screamed for them to wait before getting to the room (they also didn't realize those golems or whatever active when you use key so they are in the room getting pwned before I'm even there). I tell them not to loot the coffer yet, too late, one of them is looting it as I say it, which is also when I'm still fighting the golems (or whatever they are).

And there I see it, "______ recieves loot Black Blood of the Tormented." This was after at least 10 runs with no drop. Needless to say, I was pissed. Here I'm running these people, they're getting gear upgrades, and I'm the only one looking for the item but it's looted before I get to it.

If I thought about it at the time, I would've just had the person who looted it turn in the libram quest for me. Gizzard Gum isn't hard to get and the other items aren't soulbound. Since he was very apologetic (definitely new to game), I bet he would've been willing to spend the half-hour or so to turn it in. But two of the four 50-something's hopped on their 70's and offered to help. We ran the place two more times, no drop. Fellow guild members come by to help run it, two more times, no drop. I couldn't believe it. At this point I probably spent 15-20 hours in BRD between the various times over many months at the place.

That night, I saw a 70 Priest in /5 offering to run people through BRD as she was already running a guildie. I told her what happened and asked her to hold on to Black Blood of the Tormented if it dropped. Lucking out, she already had it! Even though I had used /2 countless times just asking, "LF someone who has Black Blood of the Tormented who wants to make easy gold!", I had never gotten a reply. I offered her 50g to do the Gizzard Gum quest and then take the rest of the mats for the arcanum. Again, I had spent 15-20 hours in BRD and I never wanted to go there again, so 50g was nothing. Even if it only took me 30 minutes to get to the coffer, at a low drop rate (which I can attest to) and travel time I could just farm herbs for half an hour and make the 50g back. Much easier. And for her, 50g for a bit of traveling was well worth it.

Long story short (too late), to repeat, if you are helping a group run BRD with personal hopes of getting this, make sure noone loots it first. Hell, when the Dark Coffer key drops, ask for it. It's not soulbound. I really wish Blizzard made this item green simply so that it would be rolled on for group loot, but that aint gonna happen (though the Black Diamonds, which are worthless, are... go figure). Anyways, I'm just glad the BRD chapter of my life is over. Though it rocks in terms of lore, it's up there with Gnomeregan as far as worst instance in the game. Unless you're going with someone who played before BC (which I didn't) and has run it enough times to know their way around, you will get lost. At least once. Trust me.

I just solod it on my lvl 64 hunter and i got the blood in 1 time :D and didnt need any pots or whatever, all i needed was feign dead and my pet dismissed to get there..... And yes its doable with a lower lvl then a 70..

To receive this item, do I have to 5-man BRD, or can this be done in a 10-man zerg?

Would be a simple acquisition for a 10-man team that is clearing BRD to key people for Molten Core.

Go to dark coffer room in BRD (any size.. 10 man works) and open the picture. Read the picture and see where the dark iron keeper spawns. Go there and kill him. Go back and open the small vault in the middle of the wall. Hope this drops.

2. When it drops, does it drop for just one pick up or do all party members with the quest get it?

post-tbc, its an easy 2-man. more so if you have the key's or a rogue to pick the doors. 70 holy pally and 65 shadow priest did it 30 minutes killing the pyromancer guy twice for fiery receipe (only dropped 2nd time).

the key to 2-manning is that you don't try to bypass too many mobs... it's easy to wipe if you don't have the ability to stop the non-elites from running away (AoE's can make it so several run away at once... grabbing nearby groups). other than the groups at "T" in the path to either the coffer or the pyromancer, it's easy to tell who you can bypass without stealth.

rogues can solo this.
kill the 2 mobs closest to the picture on the wall in BRD then vanish.

Then click picture find out where dude is.

Go kill dude and vanish (use evasion, adrenaline rush etc).

Open vault.

only 3 mobs need to die. If you have improved sap you might be able to open picture without any fighting.

I recently went with a 6 man raid to clear to the vault in BRD.
I used up 9 relic coffer keys and not a single black blood drop. :(
