Concerning the ~49% drop rate from the ironbeak screechers, I call B.S.
I've killed about 20 of these things and found 3 eggs.
Could the droprate for these have been decresed in 2.0.1 because 12 are needed for Artisan Cooking?

From Tanaris, the best place you can get these are from searing rocs at 33,60

The giant bone structures in Tanaris around the text Abyssal Sands on the map will have a ton of fire rocs that drop these. Clear out both the hyenas and the rocs and get these easily. This works well as you will get plenty of red wolf meat to cook into hot wolf ribs (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=13851 ) as well as buzzard wings for BBQ buzzard wings ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=4457 ). skill up to around 250-260 for free as well. :)

I have enjoyed quite a nice drop rate from Winterspring Screechers (in winterspring) at around 61,57.
Be careful from their 7 sec silence! (though it has only a melee range)

The entrance to "Owl Wing Thicket". There are many Owl beasts and the drop % is quite good too.

The Primitive Owlbeasts in The Hinterlands are quite reliable for Giant Eggs. My favourite place to hunt them is around 28,58 and 46,67

After accepting the quest in GZ, the huge skeleton in the middle of the Tanaris desert is probably the best spot, and you'll still get Exp when starting quests there. Respawn rate is high and there are plenty of them. The vultures in the Badlands are apparently too low to drop giant eggs.

I just got the eggs (for the cooking quest). Have to say it went a lot smoother than I thought I would after reading some comments. I farmed the owls in felwood and it worked like a charm. After a while I found a way to circle around the whole area working new owls all the time without having to stop.

Start at the beginning of felwood (south). Work your way up on the left of the road. When u get about to the bridge, change side and work your way down on the right side. I didn't time it but it took about 15-20 minutes.

Any warlocks doing Rage of Blood will pick up a lot of these. If you happen to be in Winterspring and see a Warlock farming Owlbeasts, maybe ask him if you can take them off his hands. I had 3 stacks by the time I was done with the quest.

To collect these for the Cooking 225+ Quest: Clamlette Supplies I found this to be the best route: Map: Giant Egg Run

Start at Gadgetzan and head South to the giant dinosoar Skeleton and circle around it killing Fire Rocs.
When they're all dead, head directly North killing any Greater Firebirds and Rocs you see.
When you reach the mountain edge turn back to the dinosoar Skeleton by which time the Fire Rocs be back.

Took me around 5 "laps" killing 30ish to get all 12 Giant Eggs.

Try the Y in ABYSSAL SANDS on your map of Tanaris.

I concur with Scalp, the Fire Rocs in Tanaris have a drop rate for the eggs of 30%.

They are at the "Y" of "Abyssal Sands" if you look on your map, or for you location fans, (45,39).

There are about 10 Fire Rocs flying around a large skeleton ribcase on top of a dune.

The drop rates listed here are all screwed up. The drop rate from the Owlbeasts in Winterspring is much, much lower than 95%+.

Just go east of Aerie Peak, maybe a little southeast, and there are TONS of owlbeasts that drop Giant Eggs. I am on Zul'Jin, so it may be different for other servers. If you get to the Altar of Zul you have gone too far. You want to be northwest of there.

He's right! The Hinterlands are the place to be. I didn't get squat from the Rocs, but the Owlbeasts were laying eggs like crazy, lol.

Getting the giant eggs from the rocs is quicker, plus while you're waiting for them to respawn you can kill the nearby hyenas for other recipe ingredients like red wolf meat, tender wolf meat, and mystery meat.

Well I spent 5 minutes fighting the rocs in tanaris and I got 7 eggs in no time

Where is the best place for the Horde to look for these, besides Tarnaris? I would go to Hinterlands, but there are a lot of Alliance there and I don't feel like corpse running the place.

I'm at the Abyssal Sands site (at the ribcage), been killing Rocs like crazy and only got 1 egg so far. Maybe I should try Hinterlands.

That's in the Gorefiend server, by the way.

go to the abyssal sands in Tanaris, and kill the normal rocs lvl 41-42 ( not the fire rocs). I did that and got 12 in 15mins max.

I've killed about 20 Vicious/Primitive Owlbeasts so far in the Hinterlands (Steamwheedle Cartel), and I've gotten exactly 2 Giant Eggs. I did get a couple of green drops as well as a blue, plus some decent money and XP. However, only 2 Giant Eggs. :(

A stack of 12 eggs goes for like 4-6g on my server, otherwise I'd just buy the stupid things.

Killed about 50 owlbeasts and only got 5 eggs. Just started killing rocs in tanaris and their drop rate seems much better. 5 eggs out of my first 7 kills.

Hinterlands Can Vary I Killed 20 of the OwlBeasts and got 15 eggs so it ok at times

Almost everyone tell you to go to Hinterland, but if you look carefully, the roc in Tanaris have the same drop rate. I've found them to be easier to farm since they spawn around the big bones, you know where to look. They also drop buzzard wings for cooking and the wolf that spawn with them drop mistery meat and wolf meat, both usefull at 225.

So unless you have a good reason to go to hinterland instead (less gank, less farmer, etc.) I strongly suggest Tanaris instead.

I was only a level 38 druid when I got this quest, so th rocs are not an option whn you are on a pvp server. Owlbeasts in the hinterlands are 41-45 and they drop them like 22%. Be patient thy will drop. As a bonus I picked up 8 green items and made 6 gold. worth it.

Duno if respwn rate is bull#$%^ or what.. but after killing these the owlbeasts in hinterlands for 30-45 mins, i found there were NONE left... running round for 20mins now.. still havn't seen 1. When i first started there were alot of them tho.

Savage Owlbeasts: 5 eggs from 18 kills
Primitive Owlbeasts: 7 eggs from 19 kills

I'd say they're about the same for drop rate. Kill whichever you come across.

Not sure if the droprate has been raised since 2.3 but I got 14 giant eggs from 16 Primitive Owlbeasts - I got a couple of greens from the two that didn't drop an egg!

Primitive are dropping them the fastest for me...especially the ones at and to the left of Valorwind Lake.

Rocs VERY thin on the ground in Tanaris. Spent 1 hour wandering the desert (everywhere including the rib cages) found nothing but heyenas, basilisks and scorpions. Recommend going somewhere where Eggs are Guaranteed. I'm off to try the Hinterlands.

The Primitive Owlbeasts in The Hinterlands are quite reliable for Giant Eggs. Nearly every single one dropped one for me! (Compared to half an hour killing Rocs in Tanaris and not a single drop.)

My favourite place to hunt them is around 28,58 and 46,57.

My server is crazy. 1 egg is selling for 3-4 gold on it's own. And of course, I'm not high enough to kill things for the eggs yet. Guess I get to level a bunch.

Owlbeasts (primitive and otherwise) did not drop any eggs after 15 kills, so I went to try my luck in Tanaris with the rocs. I got my 12 eggs in 30 minutes of wandering between the bones near the abyssal sands.

Too many people were farming the owlbeasts in hinterlands, so i tried the Roc's. Apparently people are lazy and just picked off the Rocs and left the hyenas. I had to clear all the heyenas to get the birds to start spawning again, then was pretty easy.

Remember -- every dead heyena is a chance for a bird to spawn (at least there on the "Y" of abysmal on your tanaris map)

8 gold for a 10 stack on my server tonight/this morning. freaking silly how much people will overcharge for quest items. It was the same getting the Robes of Arcana for my warlock quest. Crappy level 30 green that costs 4 bolts of silk, 2 spider web, and some thread and people are charging 15gold for it. /sigh /em heads off to farm

Thanks so much for the Owlbeast info, my rate was about 40-50% I ran around (on a mount) for 45 min and found 5 Rocs in Tanaris and one drop.

I did this as a 42 and got to the Horde town with just one pretty close call but I'd been to Hinterlands as an Alliance. The wset side of the map is deciving as the main road runs right into troll village.

I you try to bolt to Overlook cliff to fast you will find yourself in a field of 45-48 wolves, the uppers stealth :-P

Well worth it to get the FP :-D

i remember it was hell to grind these for the artisan cooking quest, so instead of using them to make Monster Omelete, sell them on the AH. i made a bit of money doing this cuz there are some mobs that are higher lvl that drop the eggs with a much higher drop rate than the roc's that the questgiver tells you to farm for them.

I tried to kill some owls in Hitherland <sp>, but was barely putting a dent in them at 35. Since you can get the quest for cooking at 35 you would think some brain at Blizzard would have beasts you could kill with a decent drop rate for the eggs. The owls I encountered were 41 and up. I've killed other beasts that were 5-6 levels higher, but those owls must all be plds or something.

The drop rate on the rocs seem to be pretty bad.I dont care what it says i killed a bunch of them and havnt got 1 egg yet.Killed a few of the fire rocs and they seem to drop them everytime almost.So maybe they nerfed the drop rate on those rocs right outside Gam.Either way getting them is a pain in the ass.The fact that there isnt exactly alot of them flying around out there,others doing the same quest and the adds you get trying to chase these basterds down your best bet is to have an alt camped at the AH checking for them and move on to something more productive.

I'm lvl 37 and I have checked AH every hour and there arent ANY EGGS WHAT-SO-EVER! WTF! You think some lvl 50s would be dropping stacks of 12 on AH w/ a BO of like 5g and making a fortune but I can't find a single giant egg!

The Best spot in Winterspring to find these egg's,
Would be at 59,60 Moontouched Owlbeast,And Berserk Owlbeast's.
They have a 60% Drop Rate, Everytime i kill one i get a giant egg.

Hey all!

Was following the info here trying to lvl my cooking skill but the best location to farm the eggs isnt even mentioned!

approx 61,55 in Winterspring there are dozens of winterspring screechers around with their 40% drop rate

Got my 12 off of primitive owlbeasts in The Hinterlands (lvl 44-45), droprate was at least 1 in 3 and probably more like 40%. The wowhead map on where these mobs roam is spot on.

The Hinterlands have Primitive and Savage Owlbeasts that drop small eggs - NOT giant eggs. Not sure if this was changed in some patch but I killed every Owlbeast I could find and never once saw a giant egg.

I've not checked Tanaris as I decided to just buy the mats on the AH.

I just got about 70 of these from killing the Owlbeasts in southeastern Winterspring, where the caves are with the Rich Thorium Deposits, that same caves for that Elune escort quest. I was also getting 640-704 rested XP on my 58 Fire Mage, so I ground out the whole level to 59 in about 5 hours. They respawn SO fast! ^L^

Not sure if this is an anomaly or not but I've spent the last two hours camping Roc's in the dino boneyards of Tanaris - and they're just gone. Anybody know what's up with that?

If, like me, you couldn't acquire any giant eggs and found yourself in tanaris with more than 6 eggs but think 'Meh, I'll just mount around tanaris and camp the Roc's for the remaining eggs' since you need 12 for the quest.

Well, it's doable but a bit painful. As a lvl 60 I camped the Y in Abyssal sands like the others have said, there about 4-6 spawned at once. I found that killing hyenas made more spawn as I think they may be a shared spawn, but I could be wrong. You can also go a little south east to another giant bone spot for 2-3 extra then rotate back.

I had to kill 22 Fire Rocs for 4 eggs which took about 30 mins due to spawn timers.

These are super expensive as of early SoD P3. Going for about 2g per egg on Wild Growth US. Most likely for the cooking quest.
