You can pick up a new Spectral Essence from the ghost woman outside Scholo at any time (just tell her you lost it). Since you only need it when you're at Scholo, there's no reason to be carting this in your bags or bank.

Equipping this will allow you to see the vendor on Caer Darrow that sells the Transmute Water to Air recipe.

As of 2.0.1 you also need to dispell any tracking buffs you have on (like Track Herbs, Track Minerals) in order to see residents of Caer Darrow. I suppose their treating Visions of the Past like any other tracking buff now, and you can only have one tracking buff active at a time.

I was unable to see the ghosts in Caer Darrow because I had hot swapped my Seal of the Dawn for this trinket.

I guess if you hot swap the trinket, it doesn't work. If you unequip the first slot item, then equip the spectral essence, while in Caer Darrow, you will get the buff and be able to see the ghosts.

While I had the spectral essence equipped, I was unable to keep the Argent Dawn Commission buff, even if I unequipped and reequipped the Seal of the Dawn.

Though the quest line that rewarded it is no longer in the game, if you obtained your Spectral Essence before Cataclysm, then later discarded it, you can still pick up a new one from . She's inside Scholomance itself, now, not outside as she was in the past.

Note that not only is it unnecessary to keep your Spectral Essence, it's actually a good idea to destroy it whenever you leave Caer Darrow. I used to keep it in my bank, and almost always forgot to bring it with me on Scholo runs. Because it is a Unique item and technically was still in my possession, I couldn't get it replaced from Eva. That made repairing inconvenient, especially on my Horde characters.(##RESPBREAK##)2056##DELIM##adashiel##DELIM##

shes a normal ghost out front of scholo. the rest of the ghosts look different and can only be seen with the trinket

One point of clarification...if you want to talk to the spirits of Caer Darrow, you need to equip the Spectral Essence in the top trinket slot. If you put it in the bottom slot, it will not work. I hope this helps!

doesnt matter which slot its in. u were prob on your horse, or in the air when u first equipped it, which wont work. make sure you are standing on the ground when u equip it.

just got this today, it gets you some recipes from one of the ghosts, it's nothing special, for alch is major mana and water to air, some blacksmith ones as well. you must equip while you are on the ground, doesn't work when equipped in the air

This trinket is definatly worth getting. The magistrate guy in caer darrow gives a quest to kill Ras frostwhisper in scholomance. Awarding with a blue 2h sword(https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=20133). Great weapon for paladins.

Problem is that you need this trinket to see the magistrate

You can also equip this in place of the "eye of divinity" to see the NPC for the Benediction quest. Complete quest, get your "splinter of Nordassil". So no waiting once you get your "eye of divinity", you can combine it right in MC when you recieve the eye.

maybe when you did it the questgiver was on cooldown, but it does indeed work, just got my splinter of nordrassil and am now waiting for the last part of my bene :>

starts with eva a little east from scholomance entrence.
needless to say you can see her and her husband without the trinket - they start the chain for it.
just hear her story and you can take her quest

Eva is a ghost right outside scholo if u go out door thats gaurding zone in spot to scholo u go down steps then look left, go forward lil then look left again there should be a lil shack and eva should be in front of it. u go through her story and she gives u a quest at end.

I'd been to scholo like 3 times or so, and never noticed them until I saw this quest chain on thott and actually went looking for her. Eva does not have the exclamation mark over her head until you listen to her story. She and her husband are wearing grayish clothes, and are semi-transparent. The also stand perfectly still, and don't have any NPC chatter. However, if you ride up to the entrance of scholo you ride right past them. They're on your left, right before the stairs.

I finished the quest, and a bit dissapointed on what I can get as a warrior for finishing this. However, I do need more blood to continue doing the herald, to get valor boots

As of 1.11 you can no longer use this trinket to view the quest giver. It cant be used outside of caer Darow.

After I got the trinket I weat it and keep looking around but I seem to not find anything but when i swap the trinket into the second slot (the bottom one) then I can see the ghost (magnus frostwake) and able to buy the item :)
So you have to wear it at the second trinket to see magnus frostwake

There is nothing broken about this item. It can only be used in Caer Darrow. Everyone that you might need to speak to with this item is in Caer Darrow, even if they were not previously. This game is online, so believe it or not, things can change. Try using your eyes.

Blizzard have fixed the spectal essence in patch 1.11.2 so that it now functions as it once did prior to patch 1.11.0

Hey, can anyone confirm if the Spectral Essence can be used to see the quest giver to get the Splinter of Nedresill(spelling?)quest that is part of the chain of the priest epic staff quest? I've heard from many people that it can be used and from others that it cannot. If you are sure about an answer, please reply. Thanks!

It does not work anymore. patch 1.11 made it only work in caer darrow. Tested tonight, waited 1 hour and besides, when equipped it says "does not work here"

I think its lame, cause it is so much more climatic to forge your Benediction right there in MC at Domo's chest

It works if you place Spectral Essence in your trinket slot when you are in Caer Darrow. If you place this item in trinket slot when you are in different area then item doesn't work even when you move to Caer Darrow. Also keep in mind the magistrat is now standing in Caer Darrow next to the other Scholo quest givers.

you get a buff when it's on, and that buff completely vanishes when you leave the zone.
It doesn't matter when youput it on or how.
As soon as you leave caer the buff vanishes. I can't see how you can use this in other places.

Which sucks. A patch that was completely pointless. It USE to be an item that allowed you to see cool ghosts around the game. Now it's a repair item for an instance that most 60's never even look at.
And if they do, they don't wipe in it to care about repairs.

The only reason this trinket is worth getting is being able to talk to the ghost NPC in the blacksmith building who sells several BoP patterns, most notably the Major Mana Pot pattern.

In order for this trinket to allow you to see the NPCs, you NEED to equip it at the NPCs, just outside Scholo. Dont equip it any sooner.

one day, i decided to throw some of my quest items away in order to give my bank more space, and Spectral Essence is one of them...

recently, i took alchemy as my new profession, does anyone know is it possible to get Spectral Essence back? so i can buy Recipe: Major Mana Potion?

I did it easily on my 70 Hunter with 3 greens and the rest blues.
I think you should be able to pull it off as a priest if properly geared, specced and/or skilled.

He use to be up in the castle but he has been moved to just in front of Eva. Equip the essence trinket and when the citizens appear (which can take some time) he will be ther to give you the follow on quest to kill Ras. Have fun.

After killing Kirtonos, you have to go inside scholomance, but not to the instance. Find a ghost up in the throne hall and he gives you the quest The Human, Ras Frostwhisper.

You can't have the quest without this essence

You can see Eris Havenfire when wearing this. She's the NPC to do The Balance of Light and Shadow Quest.

Not sure if you can DO the quest if you don't have the Eye of Divinity, as I have already done it, but you can see her.

Has anyone else heard this rumor? Here is the actual quote:

""* NOTE: Rumour has it you can take as long as you'd like on the Baron run as long as you have the Spectral Essence from the Scholomance/Caer Darrow quest line. You simply equip it at the end of your run and viola!""

In classic, it is currently bugged if you delete it and try to get a new one. It has text for getting it, you can click it, you hear a "dink" sound, but nothing shows up in your bags. Be warned.
