In my experience, this is one of the easier stormshroud patterns to get. Just swim out into the bay of storms in azshara, then find the sons (can't miss them, they are giants with big hammers). Then basically you can either solo them if you are a warlock, balance druid, or mage or 2 man if you are a meleer (bring a healer). From what i have seen you can find one of these bad boys in a half an hour of actively fighting the sons, sometimes less.

The Sons of Arkkoroc share spawns with the Servants of Arkkoroc. If you're farming the pattern, it's best to just kill all of the giants, giving you more Son spawns.

Not the easiest pattern I've ever farmed - had a bit of trouble at level 55 with a 54 friend, druid and rogue. The swimming around looking for the spawns was actually the hardest bit... dropped after about 20 kills which took close on an hour. Still worth it.

At lvl 70 killing them was easy enough, but I killed them for two hours, and didn't get the stupid pattern. Its the last one I need for the set too. Of course nobody else kills them any more so I can't find it on the Auction House.

People like me are the ones who lower these rates; it took me about 50 of them before I got one =\

Fortunately, I was able to find a nice trick to preserve my sanity. Down on the island below the Bay of Storms with the 3 friendly felhounds, you will find 4 giants: one to the left, one to the right, on at the front, and one behind the cave. Use a ranged weapon to pull them, run to the hounds, and they will help you. Note that you have to keep attacking, because if the hounds do most of the work you won't get to loot it.

I did this as a rogue, and I'm assuming that everyone who wants this pattern is a rogue. You may have a hard time tanking the giant all the way to the island, so swim backwards and gouge over and over again until you reach it. Once there, use Feint to make the aggro go to the felhounds so you won't have to worry about tanking the damage.

If you do all this correctly, you shouldn't have any problem at all going around in circles to kill the four giants repeatedly until you obtain the drop. The Sons and the Servants share the same spawn points, so even though you don't need to kill Servants, you should do it to spawn the Sons.

I've now killed 110 Son's. No drop.

For those people that got them quickly - were you grouped? not grouped? any particular area where they dropped?

Just got these to drop last night. Used the tip to farm the Sons that are around the island w/ the felhounds, and it worked like a charm!

It took a while (maybe 15 to 20 of the Sons), but my 53 Rogue and a fellow guildie w/ a 45 Priest got it to drop - incidentally it dropped off a Son that we were able to kill ourselves, without the hounds.

Used Crippling poison on both my swords, and would distance attack, gouge, and otherwise slow them down on the way back to the island.

The felhoud trick does work very well, but I've killed about a million of these things an no luck with the pattern. I did get Hydralick Armor (49 Blue), 2 black pearls and a golden pearl from the giant mouth clams that the giants drop. Also, these giants drop much less silver than other elites of this lvl, around 6s.

The felhounds is at 60,66
You can run through the cave, the giant's will follow, just use gouge sometimes and keep running.
It was easy to "solo" the giant's with help from the felhounds :-)

if you're worried about whether the hounds are for alliance or horde only, they are freindly for both sides.

i farmed these %^&*!@s all day and finally got mine after the 100th kill, or what felt like the 100th kill

Took me about 50 sons (might be 51) over the course of two days to get it - using the felhounds to harm the giants.

Just an update

So I just got done farming the armor pattern which dropped 2 for me after 30 mins of farming so I was feeling lucky and decided to try for the shoulders.

So I jump into the water just south of the orcale temple in the north about 64,40ish like the post above mentions as the spawn point, and sure enough I see a few giants.

Killed 3 sons and had the pattern drop for me.

Pretty easy to fear kite as a 59 warlock, not many things to agro underwater. The only thing is that these guys run FAST when feared and get out of range really quick.

I was grinding these freaks for a couple of hours on two different days and nothing dropped for me.

The first round of freaks I killed were the Sons of Arkar(whatever the name is), however respawns would produce a round of Servants of Arkar?

Anyhow, this pattern only droms from 'Sons' so apparently you have to kill these servants off to have the group of Son's respawn.

Anyhow, will be back on Weds to grind for this patter.

I had a similar problem with the Oracles which apparently drop the pattern for chest piece. Not only did I grind them for an an hour on two different days, but these guys literally disappeared after killing them off. Seems like you have to kill the high agro crabs to force oracles to respawn again.....such a tedious process...

Still no drop on either of these patterns...

Was on my way Hydraxis and killed some sons on the way when this nice thing dropped.

As mentioned a warlock can solo the giants fairly easy. The main thing is to try to keep in range and be ready to recast fear quickly as they move fast.

Tried grinding these giants for about 2 hours or so with my 60 shaman, trying to get the pattern for my 60 rogue. Luring them to the felhunters, and keeping aggro on me to make sure I can loot them. The money is a bit above average on these drops, but that's it. Will have to try again later, at least my shaman can walk on water to get out there.

It took me 6 hrs and I estimate I killed over or around 100 Sons and Servants before this bad boy dropped. I now have the complete Stromshroud set and not only do I look like a beast but I'm critting more often, which is always nice. So it was worth it in the end.

There are actually more than 4 spawn points for these giants, there is one to the left AND the right at the rear of the cave. Using the Gouge trick worked nicely to draw them to the island but getting the right aggro balance between yourself and the Felhunters is quite difficult.

I was Level 55 at the time and I managed it without many problems, only dying 7 times in 6 hrs and that was only when I was badly unlucky (Gouge's repeatedly missing) or got careless.

Doing this with a lvl 58 Rouge with pretty nice gear..... The only way I can pull it off is to use the trick with the pet's...... so I doubt the 60 rouge is telling the truth... Son's and Servants hit for 500+ in damage..... so 4 or 5 hit's and I'm toast solo.... but thanks for the tip on the pet trick... slow going but it works.

Solo-farmed this using the felhound trick with my druid at level 52. Try rooting, starfiring, getting to max range, root it again when it comes toward you, and progress your way to the demon island. When you make it to the island, switch to bearform. The giant should be damaged enough so that you can loot it every time even after the dogs dps it down 75%. Careful witht he 55 elite ones though, could mean death via root resistance.

took me a few hours with lvl 52 hunter, concussive, run, freeze trap and then whack him while my pet soaks up the damage.
Mustve killed more than 40 of them, but apart from 3 blackpearls no good drops :/

Did this today on a 53 Rogue.

Yes it was a pain in the butt and I was down to 28% durability by the end.

Blind works, so use it whenever it's off cooldown for an easy kite back to the island.

Killed about 15 Servants and 8 Sons. Obviously dropped off the 8th Son.

Will do nicely until either the Defilers shoulders at 60, or the level 61 BC shoulders that I don't remember the name of.

I hate these giants, I've been farming them for my rogue for 4 hours solo with my warlock 70, no downtime because I basically 2-3 shot them and this crap never drops... gg

I got a 70 shaman to help my 53 BE rogue kill those mobs. After 15 kills i remembered i had to go somewhere, so i told the shaman one more kill and i gtg. So we killed the sixteenth guy and he dropped the pattern. Perfect timing.

I am a 53 Blood Elf rogue on spirestone named Deciphal. I got all mats so if there is a LW out there msg me whenever possible!

i did this the dog way and got nothing,i then asked a level 70 guild member....still nothing.i got fed up and quit and went back to IF.when i got there,my guild mate was also there and told me it dropped on the 1st kill after i left! so i now just need to max out my leather working as i dont trust giving this pattern to a "freind".

I used to farm these all the time pre-BC on my 60 lock for cash. Just keep them feared, dot and nuke. Now at 70 they're boringly easy. Pre-BC i would get 1-2 an hour.

first one dropped, i learnt it, second one dropped again, so off to the AH i go. No such luck with stormshroud armour though, farmed those little buggers for hours without any luck

Dropped for me about 20th kill overall, but 10th on the lvl 54's. Was curious, so kept farming, and dropped again 19th kill on the 54's again. Probably just a fluke, but about 20 kill's on the 55's with nothing better than random greens from them. Just luck I'm guessing :p

Got it using the felhound method (pulled 4 giants per cycle) got it during my second cycle, on the 2nd giant. First cycle was all servants but the wait time between cycles is neglegable if not beneficial, lets you go get food/bathroom. About 2 min between the cycles, and that was killing them fast.

Stormshroud armor:5 oracles
Stormshroud shoulders:~7 sons (13ish giants altogether)

I was pretty happy :D

killed about 75 before the pattern dropped, then on my way back to see if Pattern: Blue Dragonscale Breastplate had spawned at the vendor, i killed another because it was on the way, and a second one dropped... 75 kills then 2 in a row drop

Took me quite a while to figure out what to do with my druid. Eventually the following strategy works: root, wrath, etc. to take them down to about 80% hp, then get back to hounds in bear form and try to survive. Got the pattern after 8 kills.

I decided to go out and try to get this pattern today after one of my kids wanted me to make it for them. After reading other posts on here didnt think i was gonna have much luck. Swam out to where the sons were , killed one nothing killed 2 more and the pattern dropped off both of them. Now to get that lucky on the armor pattern.

I didn't start out looking for these patterns but my 70 LW Hunter killed Princess Tempestria in Winterspring while trolling for rugged and the glove pattern dropped. While trying to find out how much the glove pattern might be worth, I came across the pants pattern for 2G. Hmmm. That makes 2 out of 4. Why not collect the whole set?

I killed about 100 assorted mobs (on the theory expressed above that any respawn could be an oracle) around the Temple with no luck, but 2 Black, 1 Gold and 3 Iridescent Pearls plus one green (Did I mention all the Zesty Clam Meat anyone would ever want?) made it a little easier.

Went to kill the Sons and the Servants out of boredom and because I was getting tired of the murlocs' dying theatrics. I've killed about 30 with no drop, but they do drop between 12S and 21S per kill and seem to respawn on a regular basis. I remain hopeful on both patterns.

The only pain for me is that there is no mailbox (I know my banker wants all these Zesty guys...) and the gryphon is about 200 miles away through fields of annoying naga that remain stubbornly unskinnable.

But Azshara is deserted, devoid of Barrens Chat, extraordinarily beautiful and I am trying to skill up my recent acquisition of Rak'shiri. Besides, one of the rare elites (Avalanchion) is here and it's about time for me to find him so I can send him to join the Princess and Baron Charr. : )

Stick with it; eventually the patterns will drop.

Edit: Got the Shoulders not long after I wrote the above. Probably on the 35th kill, from a Son.
Edit 2: Got the Armor, from an Oracle, of course. Don't know the number but my guess is around 200 (all types, that is). I had made about a dozen circuits around the Temple and cleared out the inside 3 or 4 times. I was just about to call it a night after about 90 minutes, but you tend to get into a groove and I went around one more circuit. I was just thinking that it was nice that the Oracles were relatively easy to kill, when Ta Daaa (heavenly trumpets sound)! At last. : )

a guildie of mine asked me to craft the shoulders, and since i didn't have the pattern i figured what the heck.... i'll go farm it. (lvl70 rogue).
So there i went... created a macro to target the son of arkkoroc and started killing.
I got really lucky... 5 kills 2 patterns. :) I learned one and the other one i sold it in AH for 150g.
Next day i went farming again... but in an hour of farming it never dropped.

I didn't know about this set until I was pretty high level, but once I found out, I decided to go and grind for it. I found the beach (south of Bay of Storms) the hard way (fall down, go boom). Went back and rezzed, then headed north towards the Temple of Arkkoran. Starting about 54,42...that's at the Shattered Strand, straight across from Hetaera's Clutch for all you non-coordies...I started running in to the Sons of Arkkoran. There were several walking around in the water there. Second one I killed dropped the pattern for me, and while I was looting that, another one came at me. He also dropped a pattern. Now, all I need is the legs and the armor, and my rogue, and my 2 rogue friends will be all set. Good luck to anyone else looking for the pattern, and hope the information I've posted is useful to someone.

Low 50's orc subtlety rogue (sorry, can't remember precisely what level I was when I did this, but I -think- the 55 giants were orange to me, and the 53's yellow)

Confirmed that the trick with the felhounds works, and boy is it an awesome trick! It's still by no means easy, but at least it makes it possible to get the pattern while you're still low enough in level to wear the shoulders :)

It was still frustrating at times, especially at first while I was getting the hang of the technique. You've got to grab the giants (using the longest-distance attack you've got), stay alive long enough to pull them back to the island, drop aggro onto the felhounds before the giant kills you, and then do enough damage before the giant dies in order to get credit. I can't tell you how many times I got the giant dead only to be unable to loot him :P

The strategy that I finally got down was this (this is highly specific to my class, race, and spec):

1) Wait till the giant gets to the point in its path where it's closest to the felhound island, and then swim till you are just barely within bowshot range. Do NOT be tempted to fire when the giant is further away than that: it's going to be hard enough to survive the trip back to the island, so don't make it harder than it has to be.

2) The second you fire that arrow, start swimming back to the island; be sure to leave the giant targetted. Keep your mouse hovering over your Blind button--when it turns white (i.e. when the giant is in range to be blinded), blind him. Keep moving! (You do not have to be facing the giant to use Blind).

3) Once the felhounds start attacking him, pop Evasion to drop aggro. You need to drop aggro ASAP, or you will die. Be sure to have some major healing pots on hand in case you can't drop aggro immediately.

4) Once the felhounds have aggro, pop Blood Fury: this will increase your dps enough that you should be able to get in enough damage to get credit for the kill. (Once the felhounds had taken the aggro, I never had a problem with accidentally stealing it back, so feel free to throw everything you've got at him at this point.) If you want to hedge your bets, vanish and Ambush.

There are two giants that spawn behind the island: for one of these (the one that's actually standing on dry land when he spawns), I found it best to stay on land during the pull: this allowed me to use Sprint. For the other (he's in the water), I found it best to run through the tunnel to get back to the felhounds. Be warned that the giants CAN chase you inside the tunnel, even though they don't actually fit, lol.

You will need lots of patience to pull this off. For one, don't be tempted to go after the giants while Evasion is still on cooldown. You might be able to pull it off, but then again you may also die, lose your kill, and have to run back to your body :P Even once you've found a workable technique, be prepared that you probably WILL lose a few kills to the felhounds, and you probably WILL die a few times. Don't sweat it--just be thankful when the stolen kills are servants rather than sons, and consider the corpse runs to just be less time that you have to spend on the island waiting for respawns.

I wish I'd brought a supply of swim speed potions, but I didn't think of it till after I'd already gotten there >.<

Oh, and as has been pointed out, do kill sons as well as servants, even though only the sons drop the pattern: they share spawn spots.

Had to kill around 10 of em' myself till it dropped .

if your a hunter i suggest you pull with aimed+multi+serpent combo , i usually set up an imolate trap aswell for the nice dot . This should get 50% of the mobs health , FD and let pet tank for a while and repeat .

by the time you find the next mob your mana will be at 50% :)

was heading to duke hydraxis and noticed the elite giants, checked allakhaz for the drops and asked a friend to help me kill a few for the lucky chance of pattern drop. got two patterns in maybe 10 kills :).

Farmed 143 of them. No drops. At 56, on my rogue, i was takng them out fairly easy, SS spam and Evis. I throw on Evasion and they wont hit me at all then, helps if your stuns arent working. Bring pots and bandages. At 60, itll be easier, i think... but no pattern :(

Hrm 100+ kills and no drop yet. also i had to kill all the servents,, so that the son spawns in the place.. yet no drop yet :( so over 200 giants killed.

I was up in Azshara killing naga for golden pearls and figured I would give these guys a shot. I'm a lvl 60 warrior with all end game equipment, and found these guys pretty easy to kill. They have zero, seriously zero armor, and their defense is CRAP. I was critting at least 50% of the time and regularly going over 1000 on normal crits and 2000 on MS crits. They do hit hard though and would take off 25-50% of my health even though the battles only last 15 seconds. After killing a dozen or so sons, the pattern dropped, and I sold it on the AH in a few hours for 45g b/o.

The most annoying thing about fighting these is that most of the time you have to do it in water so it limits your manueverability. This would be a problem for any casters that want the pattern because there is no way to kite them around in the water, and going toe to toe in cloth armor isn't the best idea.

If you haven't already figured this out, this is a great way to bring these guys down.

1. Find the little Island where the demon Hunter dude is.
2. Pull the sons and servents over to the island, and whatch them get owned.. Youll still have to attack, but just get the little zergling type things to attack them =P

Was on the same island last night and got it in about an hour or so. Killed about 10 of them, but I didn't use the felhounds though, that might be an option if I wanted to farm them. Was only close to death a couple of times on the 55+ ones, but otherwise managed to hold my own.

I tried the technique mentioned on thottbot ... where in you go to the island located at 61,65 and look for the friendly felhounds. Then, you look for the Sons of Arkkoroc around the island and do just enough damage to be able to get the drop (perhaps a fifth of his health gone), and then pull the giant towards the felhounds, who are elite and will help finish off the giants.

I can only see high level pallys or warriors being able to do this without the ability to "feign death" like hunters and rogues can ... as the giants hit REALLY hard. I am a level 56 hunter, and I was able to use my pet to hold the giant's attention until I got his health down far enough. Don't feign until the felhounds start attacking!

This is tedious though, as the Servants spawn just as often as the Sons ... and you can't go too far from the island or you won't be able to pull them towards the felhounds. But it worked for me, as I got the pattern off about the 20th giant I killed.

I killed nearly 20 of these before i got the pattern. probably not going to sell it. Was trying if get it to drop so i can give it to a Rogue friend of mine.

As a Warlock i find killing them pretty easy unless there aint some lag that has usually been the case and not too much resists that will cause some serious trouble.

Heres what i do while fighting Son of Arkkoroc:
( First killed few lvls past 50, Affliction spec)

1. I dont use pet for anything else than mana (using Affliction Dark Pact skill) only make them attack at the end. Usually have Succubus or Imp out.
2. Make and use Soul/Health stones.
3. Start the fight of with a fear
4. Then cast Curse of Agony, Corruption and Siphon Life. Depending on the direction where it goes i cast Immolate if its in range.
5. When it gets near i might cast Curse of Exhaustion to slow it down (during this time swinning backwards to keep the distance) followed by a new fear. Usually just cast the fear although i might have to take a hit or two in the bad case.
6. Repeat this pattern until its dead. In the end use probably more Destruction spells.

yep it's a HUGE problem to be unable to kite them. I almost every time has to use the felhunters on the island, but sometimes the sons are too far away... might be able to kill them if they are close to land or there is a kinda big island near or if I get really lucky with impacts/crits. No pattern yet.. don't want to spend 50G for a pattern for my rogue >.<

I just bought my pattern at the AH for 2g ya 2g, and thats about all they are worth. 2 of any class can take these Elites easy, and most can solo them.

The pattern is a 5% drop on a normal elite why the hell would you pay 60g for it!

...then good luck making any money selling the Stormshroud set...

as a 57 rogue, i found taking these guys down with cheap shot, backstab, guoge, backstab, eviscerate, guoge...with a couple of sinister strikes thrown in...and when things got close i used evasion.

they do hit hard, 500 average with 1000+ critical, but they stun, so they are pretty easy.

as a back up i used blind and runecloth bandage, tried not to use preperation on every son due to cooldown, but used if required, followed by another evasion...

unfortunately i killed about 10 of these with no drop, found it difficult in the water. didnt go back until i was 60 due to other quests...

got some greater underwater breathing potions off a guildy, had 1 hour without any worries of drowning. went back with a warrior and we killed 20 in 1 hour , need to kill servants to get sons to respawn though. the pattern dropped, and i have full set on EU Thunderhorn.

Its because of these posts with people getting the drop so rapidly that I continue to be hopeful that I will get it. It would be my final piece to complete this set. I am 4 hours into my 3 straight day. I am using the felhounds with constant pulls. All I have is some runecloth to show for my efforts. So frustrated.

As a level 54 Rogue, I was able to kill four Sons and get the pattern. I also died 4 times learning how to use the Felhounds. Alas it was worthwhile to be able complete the Stornshroud set.

Although this whole set is clearly a Subtlety Rogue outfit, I had my level 61 Hunter farm the recipes. For one thing, he's still able to get XP for it, and my level 66 Warrior is up in Winterspring.

After getting the Armor pattern from the Murlocs (about 20 before it dropped), I went a-killing Sons. Pahukatowah is good enough (and Spirit Guide holds aggro well enough) that he didn't need to lure them to the Felbeast island, which meant that he could roam at will. There are Sons of Arkkoroc all through the watery portion of Aszhara, mostly in the Bay of Storms, but also a lot in Hetaera's Clutch.

This time it was more like 30 kills before it dropped. But drop it did, and now Saunders gets to look for Princess Tempestra. Fortunately he's loaded up with Juju Chills.
