It's better to get the Eye of Divinity first. For some reason, it seems that when the Eye of Divinity drops, the drop rate of the Eye of Shadow jumps up to 33% off mobs. Just a tip so you don't waste your time trying to get the Eye of Shadow. (This is according to my guild - we have seen two Eye of Shadows drop in four mob kills. Both priests had the Eye of Divinity with them.)

For people looking to try solo farming this, best of luck to ya. With the horrendous drop rates and the easy linkage throughout the gorge, you have very little room to kite. If you are up for it though, perhaps I can offer some strategies -

as a Warlock,
Dooming; open up with a doom, SB, then banish rank TWO. Use some sort of timers and time it so the moment banish two wears, you land a banish rank one, for a combined duration of 50 seconds. With running time, this means you have 4-5 seconds of leeway to screw up one of the banishes. However, on initiates especially, it's tricky as they have high shadow resist. If this is the case and you have no -resistance-on-target gear, you may want to use two banish rank ones, and going all out DPS in the meantime. Initiates have less HP but do more damage; a felhunter for dispels and shadow ward rank twos are a must-have. Slayers hit hard and kick ass, if you get crit and then MSed, you're dead.
OR, straight-DPSing; pull with a curse (elements/shadows) and fear spam as you dot and wand, recklessnessing or popping SB/conflag if in danger of linking. This is faster, but harder; there is no safety from banishing, and you can get many adds with fear, but instead of the 3.5k damage/minute you can more than triple it with gear. Recommended for SL, as you can take more hits (VW MD)

As a hunter too, they're soloable, but tricky indeed. The best way I found is the long, arduous task of sending pet in, DPSing for 10s, cower, FD trap, and repeating over and over. However, this means a small amount of DPS - maybe 4000 in a minute. About as fast as doom kiting, but more of a pain in that your pet's probably going to die every pull. Another possible alternative is to lay a frost trap and kite around it, retrapping when needbe, however this is only recommended if a good deal of kiting room is available, since getting in melee range is killer.

As a rogue, they're soloable too, but really only every 5, 3.5, or 2.5 minutes - you need evasion for it, and unless you have impeccable gear, you're probably going to want to prep evasion to keep yourself alive. Initiates are easily doable, kicks and gouges, but the slayers will tear any rogue apart in a moment if luck isn't on your side.

Oddly enough, one of the few classes that I haven't been able to solo farm the EoS is is... priest. Anyway, best of luck to ya.

Not too bad to farm, really easy. Lord Kazzak drops it, or the demons in winterspring have a low drop on it. Farmed 2 in less than 2 hrs.

Obtain the Eye of Shadow. The Eye of Shadow drops off of Lord Kazzak, a very powerful elite boss in the Blasted Lands. Bring a raid group. Currently, you MUST be in the kill group in order to loot the Eye. Tigole says they plan to change this so you can loot the Eye even if you're not in the raid group. Update from Tregga: Well it seems Tigole was mistaken about the impending change. He just came back and said you will have to be in the group that tags Kazzak in order to have a chance to loot it. However, it was not intended to have the Priest epic quest loot only drop from raid encounters. The devs are looking into alternate methods for Priests to get the drops required for the epic quest.

Tips for fighting Lord Kazzak

First of all, his attacks:

Melee
His melee attacks are pretty weak, no more than 1500 hits on cloth users.

'Shadowbolt Volley'
Shoots out an insanely long range volley of Shadowbolts that damage anything it can target in distance for 800-1000 damage. The volley totally ignores all line of sight issues: it cannot be dodged.

Twisted Reflection
Casts a magical debuff (on a random player in range other than the player with aggro) that heals Lord Kazzak for 25,000 health each time he deals damage to the player with this debuff. This combined with the Shadowbolt Volley can ruin the attempt.

Mark of Kazzak
Casts a curse (on a random player in range with mana) that drains the target's mana for 250 per second and explodes for 4,000 AOE damage when there is no more mana to drain. A living bomb.

Cleave
Attacks a number of melee range players around him with a cleaving strike that deals 1000-2000 damage to each. Since a 'blind spot' has not been found, Cleave might be capped to a certain number of players affected.

Thunderclap
A point blank area of effect spell, hardly dealing any damage, but slowing movement speed. Some have reported 200 damage, some say it doesn't deal damage at all. Doesn't seem to affect attacking speed either.

Void Bolt
A strong bolt he may cast only on the player with aggro, deals up to 3000 shadow damage (or more!).

Capture Soul
When a player, pet or totem gets killed, Lord Kazzak casts this spell to instantly regenerate 70,000 health.

Alright, now you know pretty well what you're fighting against. Here's how the battle itself works:

Once he is aggroed and the fight begins, you have no more than three (3) minutes to kill him. I'll explain later why. He starts off with everything he's got. He keeps meleeing the main tank while Cleaving once in a while for rogues swarming around him and keeps sending Shadowbolt Volleys to hurt everyone around. The volleys are not on a timer, instead he casts them as he sees fit. In some rare cases there's about 30 seconds between the casts, sometimes he does it every five seconds. In the meantime, he casts Twisted Reflection and the rarer Mark of Kazzak on random people.

What to do here:
Send your main tank in and let him build some aggro for a short while, just enough so he won't come at you the first time you cast something on him. Then unload. Have your DPS classes give him everything they have. Priests have to be extra mindful about the magical debuff he casts on your group. It has to be removed as soon as possible or the attempt will soon end in a disaster. Priests are also in charge of healing their groups thanks to that Shadowbolt Volley that keeps hitting everyone all the time. Mages need to be on top of the curse situtation. Mark of Kazzak can and will cause a wipe if you let it go off on you. Dispel the curse as soon as you can. All casters should also leave about 1000 mana in their mana pool just in case he casts the curse on you. That'll give the mages four seconds to dispel before it goes off. In other words, 1000 mana is out of mana in this raid encounter. Also, anyone dying during the fight is not an option. Unless it happens during the first five seconds of the fight, you've failed already. Do not use grounding totems, pets or other small things he can kill for the 70,000 health heal.

Your group will have exactly three minutes to finish the demon off. If you fail to kill him in that time due to lack of DPS, people dying or not dispelling Twisted Reflection properly, Lord Kazzak will enter what is called the supreme mode. Named after his yell once it triggers, the supreme mode causes him to cast his Shadowbolt every second. That's 800-1000 DPS on everyone, kids, and that means a wipe.

4. Combine the 3 items. Once you have all 3 items, combine them to form your new epic staff, Anathema/Benediction. Using one form of the staff will change it to the other and visa versa. Congratulations! You're completed your Priest epic quest!

Update: With the 1.8 patch, the staff can now be successfully enchanted. Only one enchantment can be applied to the staff. You cannot have one enchantment per side.

Update 3/28/06: From Indanak on the Bloodscalp Server:

We have a group of 4 priests: Flathra, Moonora, Feoria and myself. We selected one priest ( Feoria ) to accept the quest (we all were able to join the quest with her). The other 3 of us stood on the hill with the NPC. We didnt move and were able to heal the humans as they walked towards us. So we had 4 people healing them at once. Only 2 humans died and we all got the Splinter of Nordrassil.

Key Points:
Can only heal and abolish disease on humans.
CANNOT heal party members or a boss spawns and tears everyone to shreds.
the 3 members who are on the hill cannot move.

This is more or less worthless now. It's down to like 10g on my server, and there is a backstock of more than five of them at the auction house.

Nobody goes into MC anymore, so unless you have 39 friends with four hours on their hands, getting your epic staff is more or less impossible.

You could buy it for cheap now, wait until you get 70, and then go into MC with a much smaller party. Like 15 or 20 can do the entire instance.

Got one from the 4th or 5th mob I killed while doing the prereq quest for my warlocks doomguard quest. Knowing that it's worthless now I just equipped it. It kinda fits a warlock :)

Well, I just got 1 Eye of Shadow out of 2 kills. And it is not soulbound, so you can borrow it to another priests.

The mobs in Darkwhisper Gorge in Winterspring are terribly easy to farm at 70, I'd rate them as equivalent to perhaps a level 72 non-elite. Since this trinket is all but useless as previously mentioned, I'm not sure why you'd be after it, but it is fun sometimes to go back and get some of the things you never had a chance to at 60. I believe the drop rate on this item has been significantly increased, as I was farming felcloth from the elites in Darkwhisper and had 3 eye of shadow drop for me over only 10 mobs. Seems this is too many to be sheer luck and I imagine the drop rates listed for these mobs are not accurate if the drop rate HAS been changed since virtually no one kills these mobs anymore. So end of story is, if for some reason you have a burning desire to get this, shouldn't take you more than 5 or 10 minutes now.

The funny thing is that i mined and i attacked everyone around
cause im level 70 i kill only 3-4 mobs in area and got The Eye

I got 100g for it just recently but since it's unique you can't really farm them in larger quantities. You always need to get rid of the first Eye in order to pick up another one (back to Everlook, etc.). If you're after money, there are much better places to farm, like doing all the new dailies.

These don't seem to sell in the AH anymore since they're worthless without the Eye of Divinity. On my server, barely anyone has ever heard of Molten Core. lol
I sold one for 5g to a guy and he then tried to sell it for 300g. He's still trying to sell it today.

Since 1.8 I've been farming this for a few hours a day. I take the first right tunnel and setup on the rock with a couple of friends and we kill for a few hours a day and still no drop! Is there a loaction perhaps deeper in where people are getting the drops more frequently?

After a nice short LBRS run we dicided to farm the eye of shadow in WS. 2 mages, 2 priests. Already the fifth mob (hederine slayer) dropped it. I was the lucky guy to get it. Since there was a second priest within the group, we dicided to continue. Guess what? The tenth or eleventh mob dropped it again!

Is it true that Blizz increased the droprate? Or was it just a hell lot of luck? Dunno.

The Eye of Shadow can be picked up or equipped by any class. It's only used for the Priest epic staff quest (The other parts are listed as priest only so don't even wory about it) it has no effects for any other class but Priest and thats only when combined with the other Priest only trinket called the Eye of Divinity from Major Domo's chest. If your not a Priest and you have this item it really does nothing when you equip it, I suggest you sell it or give it to a Priest friend who needs it.
I'm surprised how many times I see this explained but people keep asking what it does because a few have been spreading rumours about untrue effects the Eye of Shadow has.
Edit: A few days after posting this I went farming for some with a Druid friend. We killed 3 Initiates and 1 dropped then we killed probably about 8 or so and another dropped.

I guess I just didn't bother reading the tooltip on it - it is unique. I was up that way (in Winterspring) and wanted a break from killing Giants. Wandered up and on my 5th kill got the eye. Cool! On the way back out, nailed anopther Slayer and he dropped one which I could not pick up - Can not carr more than one of those items!
Bugger. Have to farm 1 at a time!

The eye of shadow dropped off of a hederine initiate in winterspring.. My group tried tainted scar for about 1 hour and 30 minute, no drop... so we quit.. the next day we went out to winterspring, and killed only hederine initiates.. it had been a lil over an hour, we were right about to quit, and it dropped.. killed somewhere around 80-100 Hederine Initiates before the drop... GOOD TIMES GOOD TIMES.. i think we got lucky ;)

don't get discouraged, just keep trying and eventually it will happen. it's all a numbers game, odds, and dumb luck.

Been farming it with my frost mage for my priest for a bit over 30 hours now (solo) and so far nothing but runecloth, felcloth and some greens.

well i started farming.. think i got 2 kills before i wispered to a friend and told the good drop rate. so he joined. we killed 1 and a few in guild asks what we are doing. well then without a question we had to invite them :S
and there they came, we killed and killed maby about 20 or so then the eye dropped, well i started and i was after it, my friend agreed that we should share cash for it
but 1 thing. this was nothing the guild friends knew of, so when it dropped we all rolled, my friend won it and i felt safem he sold it and bought a staff he told me , i was like ok cool.
then i asked how mutch he got and what staff
well he bought a staff for 600g and he sold it for 600g.. gues i lost my 300g >.<

I can solo the initiates as a lvl 60 hunter. I started farming them yesterday. Killed bout 10 then. I log on today and got an eye on the 2nd kill :).

I read about everyone spending a few hours farming today to get one, and I've thought about getting one to sell to get an epic mount finally.

Anyway, I went to the Winterspring, and started solo grinding Hederinine Slayers, and on my FOURTH Slayer, this managed to drop. I spent probably about 9 to 12 minutes fighting before I got it.

On Alliance AH for 600g right now. Good deal :)

No one in the guild could use it (all already outfitted with Benedictions), and being a Druid, I can't use it.

This item is used in the Epic Priest staff quest Balance of Light and Shadow, shown here:
Balance of Light and Shadow doesn't do anything for any other class except allow them to see the ghost priest for the priest quest. You can get them off slayers and locks in the demon area in the southern most part of Winterspring and off Lord Kazzak in the blasted lands (need a raid party). I have not gotten mine yet, but I have spoken with many priests who have gotten it. They report it can be done with a 60 war/60 priest, 60 pally/60 priest and even a 60 druid/60 priest. Through all of these inquiries, I found the droprate varied. Some got it very quickly others spent as much as days farming. I don't know if lower levels can get it, but I don't see why not as it is able to be farmed by any class, seems weird if they put that type of limit on it.
I hope this will be mine within the month but no luck thus far.

Those that are saying "we got on one the 5th kill" or "only took 10 minutes to get this" are just extremely lucky. I farmed for one of these in a group of 7 for over 2 hours yesterday and nothing. And we were killing these guys FAST, probably killed at least 2-3 per minute.

I'm a level 60 Warlock with moderate gear and can take these down very easily, but it's about 2-3 minutes per kill. So I can kill about 20 in an hour and I've been killing for at *least* 6 hours total and have not seen it drop yet. I have however looted about 10 pieces of felcloth and some runecloth, but I really want this eye as I'm broke! These are one of the few things I know I can kill that is guarunteed profit but it sucks when it won't drop after aprox. 120 kills.

Thanks for motivation, I'll keep grinding, priests keep posting when it drops for you, anything like day of week or time of day would help, and whether the mob that dropped it was near the entrance in one of the 'holes'

Got a group of 5 together for quick grind of demons in WS. Only stayed for 20 mins. Killed 15 or so. Gave up. Went today with warlock and picked one up on 5th kill. Was very very lucky. Easily taken down with priest/lock duo.

I was running to the exotic reagent vendor in Darkwhisper Gorge in WS when I see a mage fighting a demon, I heal him up and make my way to the vendor, shortly there after i get a tell from him saying "Hey are you still nearby because the eye of shadow just dropped and I already have one and they are unique, so i dont want it to go to waste." I about crapped my pants, Can you say lucky me! Now for the dilemma give it to my guild mate or sell it for copious amounts of gold!

Killed 2 hederine slayers and it dropped. Funny thing was the priest thought the initiates had a better drop rate so was telling us not to kill the slayers! Lucky for him our mage was aggroing everything!

I got really lucky:) Got the Eye of Divinity from Domo on Fri, farmed for about 1 hour on Sat and got the Eye of Shadow and soon after my staff. Today we took in a group of newbs to farm MC thrash mobs for mats when we heard that Kazzak was up. We ran over and killed him before enyone had a chance to blink. A second Eye dropped for the next guildie in line. If all goes well we'll have the second Eye come Friday.

Something's seriously wrong with the droprate of this. I went to WS to help a friend with a quest an decided to kill some demons in the south for fun and maybe a blue drop.

Killed one and decided it would just useless to farm these. So I killed just one more (to clear the entrance to the gorge) and this dropped.

I'm trying to sell it for 275g now, since it's in the AH for ~300g now... 3 times -.-

So, ive been 60 for awhile and due to my friend countless hours farming for this damn item, I never tired. But today im bored in IF on Kil'jaeden I get this brilliant thought. Seeing that I cant farm for this item myself on my rouge, nor my priest. Im going to hire me a few rouges (which are like mexicans at The Home Depot standing out front looking for work). I said I would pay them 200g each if it drops. Ha! it wont drop, what are the chances of that. So me and these 3 semi-decent rouges start our quest.

I buffed us with Pray of Fortitude. We start killing, and its going rather nicely. On our 20th guy (6 of which were the mana doglike things) and 30mins. EOS is there. Im 600g in the hole, but thats ok.

They were happy, made mad money. I spent 30 mins of my time. I managed to piss off every priest I know with/without the staff.

Got it after about 2.5 hours grinding, using a healer and a damage warrior. Pretty easy.

A guy who tried to grind it before patch 1.7 spent over 40 hours in a 5 man raid without it dropping.

The drop rate on this is stupefyingly low. I was in Frostwhisper Gorge earlier today, collecting Tears of the Hederine for my Doom Guard, and this thing dropped. Anyone who really wants Anathema/Benediction should be going to Kazzak. Since you also need a drop off Majordomo to get the staff, if you're serious about getting it Kazzak shouldn't be a problem to kill. His droprate of this thing is way better.

New quests and lands are constantly being added to the land of azeroth, one of these items being the <eye of shadow> is now available as a cash reward quest. The eye is now able to be equipped and will lead you to a cofiler which contains all the spoils of the shadow

Contrary to popular myth, this item drops off of both lvl 59s and 60s. I got mine today off a 59 Slayer.

The drop rate has INCREASED off the Slayers and Intiates as of Patch 1.8, according to a Blizzard Blue. They actually gave sympathy to priests.

I was in winterspring farming blue dragon elites and hendrine slayers with a shadow priest buddy of mine last night. We had not even thought bout the fact that they drop these.We were just there for the coins and grey drops to make a quick 20g, and figured we would make a trip to hyjal for the hell of it, and to our astonishment while we where farming the blue dragons on our way up the droped we bout &*!@ ourselves! We headed up to the slayers and bout halfway to the Hyjal entrance we got to drop the priest already had his bene so we continued to Hyjal took a couple screenshots and hearthed to make us a quick 200g! (a hunter in our guild needed the sinew so we didnt sell it)

BTW this was after 2.0.1 they do still sell and Hyjal is still reachable!

Dropped off a Slayer (level 60). Priest farmed for over 40 hours, and killed more than 2000 demons over a month's time. Damn did he ever deserve that thing.

This is how I stopped my crying, instead of thinking that me and my friend is farming for this horrid EoS, we have decided to think of it as farming for money. No more tears =) We made well over 1200g and spent 100+ hours..... maybe I'll be able to buy it instead. It'll drop eventually, hopefully before I think I need a social life.

Started farming this bad boy today for my Benediction/Anathema staff. Grabbed a bunch of mana drinks and went with one other person, a 60 rogue. Got there thinking this was going to take at least two hours of farming to get this thing, ended up getting it after the 8th kill :D

some of you guys are really lucky, i've easily killed over 1000 of these (around 600 of those before the droprate got increased) and i'm yet to see one drop. :-/

Me and 5 guildies decided to go kill these guys to help one of them lvl from 59 to 60, figured hey if an eye drops we can sell it and split the gold. So we were killing them for 5 minutes and one dropped, we were like SWEET. we decided to stay and kill somemore after that then 25 minutes later another dropped and 15 minutes after that another. so were like awesome, then we decided it was time to go but on the way out we killed 2 more guys and they both dropped the eye and an orb of deception. we were like WTF is up w/ this lol

Don't let the drop rates fool you, as they are calculated using overall mob kill fugures. That means they include the kills before the Eye was even in the loottables. It's still under 1% imo, but not really as low as 0.21% ;)

Drop rate of these have been raised from 0,20% to atleast 3%. So it's now almost soloable as requested. Feels like bliz is reading these posts actually :)

Thought for my self today: "Hmm..i wanna do some fast and efective farming" then i went to winterspring..

I gave the hederine slayer a try and wasted a mana pot and 2 10m cooldowns..then i got it down..the loots where more than 4 so i had to look at the next page to AND THERE IT WAS..So its now at AH @ Vashj cheap :)

60 Warlock, farming Hederline Slayers just got one to drop. Took about 60 or so kills. I just made a healer friend for life with this one. ;)

Today i was grinding in Winterspring on that lake or whatever it is until a Priest outta my Guild asked me if i may help him farming those Elites in South Winterspring, well i was bored so i said yes. We killed about 20 of those Guys and what a suprise? It dropped ^^ that was pretty fast if u ask me

Farmed for the eye for four straight days.

The best advice is to get a group of a warlock (for adds) + mage/warrior/rogue + yourself (all can make it go faster) and to farm the first caves area after the front area. Just keep killing all the spawns (even the felhound manastalkers) in succession and you'll have wave after wave of continual respawns with little downtime. Even if you cannot get three usually two works, although a warlock is preferable for the banish/doom method.

Had horrible luck on drops. No blues, very few greens except on the last night where the eye dropped we had five green drops in a row then the epic.

I finally got it.

here's what i had to go through:

been farming for over 45h. never seen it dropped.
stood at the kazzak spawnpoint for another 30h, to be there when he spawns.
been at kazzak spawn 8 times, times i was able to join the group who killed him, and finally rolled it with a 74.

about 80h of work for one eye of shadow. blizzard, that quest sux. fix it.

Since getting Eye of shadow is almost impossible on some servers, bliz should either fix kazzak as instance boss or make Eye of shadow drop from some other instance boss (like onyxia drop mature blue dragon sinew) or make a quest for Eye of shadow (like soloing a lvl 61 elite demon or something).

I am all for opening the Eye of Shadow up to the guilds who can't seem to fight Kazzak. My guild has never downed him, and we're gearing up to fight Domo this weekend. However, the new drop rate on these things is dumb. Three people in my guild have them.

Given that a good player can solo these mobs, it doesn't really make much sense to have the drop rate be so out of whack. I went up to winterspring to farm the 6 of Portals, but I had an easier time getting this-first Herderine Slayer I fought...

One dropped for a non-guild mage and priest and myself (warr). About number 18 in. Was total luck. Keep trying all.

We gave it to the priest. Really made his night.

i soloed at least 250 of the slayers and initiates but got no drop at all:(
only got 20ish demonic runes, 10 felcloth and
a bunch of mushrooms and runecloth:(

Did anybody else realize that the droprate dropped (haha :|)?
I used to farm these shortly after it was announced that the droprate was raised - and indeed it was raised as I got one almost daily.
But since a few (mini) patches ago - I've seen nothing. I killed at least 200 slayers/initiates since my last drop and I found nothing. :(

My guess right now is, that you have to have a priest in group (or on the server) who has the quest for that item - otherwise it won't drop. I know that sounds strange and contradicts some of the posts here - but it's the only explaination I have. There used to be at least 2 EoS on the AH on my server each week - but for the last few weeks (if not months) I hardly see any on the auction house. So there must have been some sort of change because I know that beside me there are several other people _trying_ to farm this, too - and they all told me that they realized a massive drop in the droprate.

*sigh* I used to live so good back in the days when this was easily farmable. :D

seems that its purely a matter of luck and thats it. spent another 3 + hours there tonight with a group and no luck at all ... and for the people that are saying the the other mobs dont drop anything, i guess that's the key to getting the eye. we got 3x thor lock boxes and various greens while there.

i got one in 5 minutes, and a second one in 2 minutes :D:D
first time i went out killing demons it dropped from the second one i killed, the day after another one dropped from the first demon i killed :D
I had to call in a guildy who was also farming around there because you can have only one at a time :P

btw, i got both from a Hederine Slayer in southern winterspring.

I have spent every day since 1.5 in darkwhisper gorge, I have around 1.5 days played JUST in that spot, sometimes solo sometimes with a group. Nothing have dropped yet....

Two Guildies farmed it.. i helped both of them with my rogue. It dropped in both runs i was with them. They spent around 4h of farming each.

Farmed Winterspring for must have been 60 hours and never got the eye. After the guild we Coop MC with found THREE eyes all in under 4 hours each, I was a little pissed. So I brought their paladin with me cause he was there for all three of their drops, and what do ya know, less than 1 hour there a level 59 Heredine Slayer dropped the Eye of Shadow. Thanks for all your support guys and dont give up! It will drop for you!

Confirmed that it drops from level 59s as well, because a levle 59 Slayer dropped it for me, so just kill everything.

Go mine after 5 mobs, from the one furthest out so it has nothing to do with where you are, the ones in the beginning of the zone works as well. Did it with a party of two, myself (priest) and a warrior.

this item is god damn extremely rare. personally, i've spent about 37 hours there so far, together with guildies we managed to get NO EYE in over 60 hours.

I have all the other items required for benediction for about 4 weeks now, but doesn't help, since the eye of shadow can only be obtained by a rare drop or if you kill kazzak, which is nearly impossible, because he is on farmlist of all that quys that can play WoW from 8 o'clock in the morning till 12 o'clock in the evening.

i'm very disappointed by blizzard, i love my priest and would very much like to have this staff in the end, i have spent a lot of time for it and done the damn quest in first try, but appearantly that doesn't make me good enough for the staff...in the end, it's all about being lucky again.

I was farming demons with a lock freind in Winterspring for his mount quest. At some point he summons a doomguard and we kill him, the doomguard my warlock friend summoned droped the eye of shadow..!

Been farming for 5 hours today, going bac later tonight. I have now killed about 250-300 of each demon so far this week, and I've gotten dombringer, 2*16 slots, loads of crappy greens, 20 demonic runes and well about 200 rc.

Edit: Farmed another 3 hours, still no eye, but I got some more greens and a 16 slot. Think I'm gonna make this my grind diary. See ya'll tomorrow.

Sunday:

Farmed 3 hours, still no drop, 3 greens though.
37 slayers, 29 initiates down.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday:

Farmed there for 8 hours every day this week. 1900 Slayers down and about 1400 intiates. No eye. I gave in and bought the eye for 1000g.

Got mine very very easy, from the 4th mob we killed! Just as we killed it too we where ganked by a rogue (we thought it would be fun to kill him in everlook, he was sad enough to follow us down). Luckily made it to the corpse in time to discover it had a nice Eye of Shadow sittin on it :D

A priest in my guild wanted one of these for the quest so i joined the group and helped out, we got to Winter springs, and during our first kill the priest gets D/c, so we kill the mob and the Eye of Shadow Dropped. The priest came back online we traded it to him, as we went there planing to farm for an hour so we continued, 30 mins later another one dropped i won the roll, and we split 300g between 4 people.

Aswel i have tried to solo the demons with a paladin, it is not easy, the only ones a paladin can solo is the sucibus ones.

Finally I managed to get some guildies to help me farm for my Eye...
After 30-40 Hederines and no drop I decided to leave and try some other day. While killing the Hederines on our way back it dropped in the LAST ONE! That was luck!
I'm a very happy Priest now! I also have the Splinter of Nodrassil which I obtained from the Balance Of Light and Shadow quest using Spectral Essence! Just need the Eye of Divinity now and the BENIE is mine!

Well other people seem to be getting this to drop for them, but I've spent around 4-8 hours everyday this week, killing about 400 of each demon in south winterspring , and still no luck.

It seems that the initiates have a better drop rate, but its supposed to drop off all high level elite demons. The problem is that the initates are only 1 of 3 different spawns, so you have to kill slayers and the mana draiing dog things to get them to spawn.

So we decided to farm for a bit, went all the way up to the Hyjal portal. Messing around a bit, we decide to try and go inside so I aggro a hound while my party was killing...something. It died and dropped the EoS...we were just freaking out because it had only been 20 minutes. A pity my guild never finds EoS from domo. :\

This is undoubtedly the hardest peice to get. I got my eye of divinity about one month ago and did the quest 1 hour later. Passed the quest first try. I have farmed every weekend for the past 4 weeks, and logged over 60h farming for this &*!@. I came on today and tried to get people together to help. Nobody wants to help anymore because it takes so much time. So i had the great idea of going on my friend's hunter to try soloing them. Had to kite them as far as everlook just to kill them. Some random noobs would help me along the way when they saw me kiting, but basically i soloed them all. Killed 30 and it dropped! I FREAKED! I yelled all over vent and blew out a few eardrums. I hearthed to IF and gave it to my guild master to hold for me while i logged on. I logged out to get on my priest...but the server was down. I have the eye waiting for me, and its like *!@#ing hell waiting to get on. Its been 3 hours and i still cant get on. This is the day of the 1.8 patch, so all u readers probably know what im talking about. I cant believe i got it, but its damn torture knowing i have it but cant use it yet. : ( Good luck farming to all of you preists that think its hopeless. I thought it was hopeless, but i kept at it. Just believe.

After 140+ hours of farming with a mage friend and making 2000 gold in the process, I've found it! Then a few hours later we decided to help another priest in the guild farm it and we found another one! What a wonderful day! My pain an suffering has ended.

48 hours of farming, 6 of those post-1.8, and mine finally drops off a Slayer (didn't take note of the level). During the process, I had seen many greens drop, two DM faire cards, and I don't know how many Pristine Black Diamonds...

And I've prolly spend upwards of 200g on repairs just from the farming.

Well, at least the torchure is over. Good luck to other priests about to farm the elusive eye.

The initiates are VERY easy to solo as a shaman... no need for a shield since they don't hit hard at all compared to the slayers. Time grounding totem correctly with rank 1 earth shocks for interrupting and they'll rarely manage to cast a spell. usually finish the fight with 25% of my mana remaining... and I don't even have a lot of mana for a shaman. Sadly I haven't been able to consistently find a lot of initiates to kill in one area =/

OMG! I have been in 4 groups(all out of 5). 1st group (good one) farmed for 2 hours no drop. 2nd group (not too good) 1 hour no drop. 3rd group (not too good) 1 hour no drop. 4th group (good) farmed for 3 hours no drop!

I know that I must kill slayers+initiates and not the manastalkers! It doesn't drop! Sooooo annoying.... I've killed over 300....

Level 60 warlock in crapass gear on Darrowmere. This dropped for me on my 45th kill (Hederine Slayers), I was excited. But would you believe it, it also dropped on my 48th kill.

It's unique! I can only have one! What am I to do? I got a guildmate on vent to rush down to me in Winterspring from Felwood. Problem is, he didn't have the flightpath to Winterspring nor did he have timbermaw rep. Well that didn't stop him, he barged through Timbermaw Hold, mounted, and came down to me at Darkwhisper Gorge. I had been keeping the loot window open in hopes that it would prevent the body from disappearing, I guess it worked. I traded him the eye I had, and looted the second one.

Sold one of them today for 200g, got so many offers I guess I can ask for more. Gonna try for 250-300 for the other one.

I'm still farming these, 80 kills atm.

My first epic world drop today :D from a Hederine Initiate in Darkwhisper Gorge in Winterspring... was just there farming Thorium and it dropped lolz, kinda funny that i only killed the demon because she was walking thru one of the tunnels i went thru, otherwise i was avoiding the mobs oh well, lucky day i guess :D

Wednesday I got eye of divinity and soon after that slintree of nordrassil ! Now 'only' the eye of shadow.. after 2h farming with guildies we decided to continue on other day.
Thursday 4½h farming.. no eye.
Friday 11½h farming with two helpers.. still no eye.
Saturday 8½h farming with one helper.. other guild farming there got 2 eyes and I got 0.
Sunday 2½h farming with 3 helpers.. is this drop rate being hotnerfed ? 0 eyes.
Monday 7½h farming with 2 helpers.. 0 eyes.
Tuesday 4h farming with 1 helper. After helper left I tried solo those with holy build, begged for help and finally respecced shadow to be able to farm alone.. 4½h farming alone.. no eye. I'm beginning to be desperate. Maybe tomorrow...

Got this last night from the demons in Winterspring.

Dropped from the 3rd Initiate we killed, was very shocked it dropped so fast.

We now have a very happy priest in our guild :D

as a rogue i manage to kill initiates with only using one wipper root tuber. just use stunlock and lots of kicks and gouges. 2-3 days ago i went in winterspring with 2 friends and for 3 hours we get 2 eyes. i think thats going to be the new grinding place for the next months:) or till the price drop very low

strange story. saw a video yesterday. lock soloing elite in WS oin order to get an eye of shadow. i though: ok im bored lets move there and try it. the 5th mob dropped one... ^^ omg i must be lucky. 250-300g for half an hour farming ...nice

lol i was just mucking around with the hederine slayers at the front of the area seeing if i could solo 2 at once with a full frost spec.. about 10 minutes later this dropped.. totally lucky drop :D

as for people saying it drops fast.. well i guess it's more likely someone's going to post if it drops on the first few mobs than if it takes them 300 mobs

After 100+h farming and nightmares about killing demons Kazzak popped up.. 4hours of hard fighting vs horde raid and we finally nailed the big demon. 7 priests rolled for the eye and I won with 87 :) I'm so happy now !

The slayers can be soloed by a rogue. I am a combat rogue 30/21, and I use crippling+kiting and very good stun lock timing to kill them. I just kill everything I see in darkwhisper, beats running around looking for initiates. Killed about 10, no drop yet, trying again tomorrow.

I have checked Blasted Lands and Winterspring, Every monster that drops the Eye of Shadow is 59-60 (Elite) Why is the range listed between 56-60 ?
I have spent hours looking for demons of a lower level, and cant find any monsters capable of soloing,

Anyone know of areas specific, that do have the lower level demons wandering?
need the damn eye...

Farming Thorium in Darkwhisper Gorge in Winterspring and looked up Darkwhisper Gorge on WowWiki and it said this has a VERY small chance to drop. So for the hell of it I started killing some of the mobs... when I realized a BE Hunter was also farming Thorium in the same area I decided to give up since it wasn't big enough for both of us. Since nothing good was dropping, I decided "ok, one more mob then I'm hearthing". BAM. This dropped. Hubby is gonna be a happy little shadow priesty when I tell him about this :)

EDIT: Of course I alt+tab back into WoW after writing this... I'm dead. :( Good thing I looted already, that place can be confusing.

k, it does drop off demons in south winterspring . . .
almost 1% rate.

but my question is :

Does it drop noly to priest with a specific quest, or it can drop to every1 ?

a priest in my guild has farmed over 30+ hours (not alone of course)... sadly have got many uncommon (green) items, 1 rare (blue) item, and 2 epic (purple items)... odd that seen more epics than drop than rares, ah well... back to farming since kazzak is always screwed over

yeah, i would like to know if this only drops once you have the item from the Domo chest or will it drop for anyone farming these demons.....

My first one got ninjaed by a Paladin in a Kazzak raid....

I gave my second one I got from Kazzak to a guildy who already had divinity.....

Now I'm farming for my third to actually get my own staff! Grrrr....

Well, less than 20 slayer/succube got it, rand : 85 versus 13 feeling lucky tonight :D

Edit : well we still killed ~5 slayer/succube and got the second for ma guildmate EZ :D

518 mobs killed since pvp patch (0 dogs killed) and counting. Did not get it. But I got 2 pristine diamonds. I smell a stealthnerf to droprate tbh. I've been making money with eye farming and on average it'd be 2h/eye. Now its been 20hours already over 3 6-7h sessions ... No wonder eye jumped to like 450g in price, from 300 ...

Funny story.
I was teaming up with a Warlock for a duo farm, we spent about 3h in the southern part of Winterspring killing Hederine Slayers, and Initiates.
At the very end without luck on our side i decided to call it for the day, so i ran to Everlook.
And as i run back he says another one just spawned, i turn around, and replied Okay, last one.

And it actually dropped!
From the last mob we killed, and i wasen't even suppose to kill him because i was heading back.
He rolled 2, i rolled 8.

Unbelievable moments, still speechless.

It's unique so you can only have one in your bags at a time if youre farming. Had 2 in a row drop with one in my bag already. The corpses though dont seem to really despawn if theres an eye on them because i had time to run to town/mailbox twice without the corpse despawning. There were respawns already and it was there still
