This is one of (if not) the strongest warrior item in game:

1) Scales nicely.
Whether 8/8 Might or 9/9 Dreadnaught or 6/6 Teir 34, it will always be comparable. The only thing that can replace it is a copy with a larger %.

2) Cooldown.
Not only is it a short 5 minutes, but it doesn't share a cooldown with any other health-related tanking cooldown.

3) Useability:
It can be used all the time. Have more HP for known spike damage, use for the occasional heal while soloing, stack it with Last Stand for +45% HP.

Get. This. Item.

As of today, 14/12/06, this item has been nerfed to not scale with HP, but simply provides a heal for 1500, and an increase in maximum hp of 1500.

Another warrior nerf? Possibly.

It's only a nerf if you have over 10k hp. Under that, it's a buff.

Yeap, I still use this at 70.

Most warriors who have recently turned 70 and are reasonably geared seem to have about 10000 health, retaining the percentage at this point. Still functions as a nice top-up in gear for Heroic/Karazhan and beyond.

This gem is getting nerfed again as we speak. No longer heals you for 1500 but instead will just increase the health capacity by 1500 :( too bad

Theres a similar trinket now available from Gurtogg Bloodboil in Black Temple, called the Shadowmoon Insignia. Its basically this, but with 250 extra health as well as dodge and defense rating. Long live the lifegiving gem :(

Got this last night.
6120 to about 7000. I had over 9k when I tried it fully buffed.
Only a 5 minute cooldown.

this would be really sweet when combined with the talent in protect tree "Last Stand" that increase ur health by 30%...for a total of 45% increase...woot. 8k health with buffs and full mc gear...+45% = would be about 12,000 health... :P

As a protection spec warrior it's all about survivability. So this is just an additional way to help keep me alive while others are dishing out the damage.
w/ this item + health pots + Health stone + shield wall + stand stand = me and the team alive :)

i might be wrong but i dont think u lose the HP after the 20 sec is up... so this is better than LS cuase its a free 30% self heal no matter where u are and if u combine it with LS u can survive a lot longer whether u are soloing or if u are in a group and need to stay alive a little bit longer. so get back to me if u lose the HP or not, preferably some1 who has this trinket? either way, this trinket is awesome and every warrior should carry one!

Last Stand specifically says you lose the health after 20 seconds; this does not. Unless they forgot to add that part I would think it just decreases your max health after the 20 seconds are up. Someone that has the trinket would know for sure.

compare to the lifestone, which heals for a fixed amount and has a 30 min cooldown.

free heals are very nice in world pvp. With my gear it heals me for a bit over 1K hp. That makes a huge difference, especially against melee. Against another warrior I pop it at 21% and there's no execute for you.

It has also opened other tactical options. Now I can drink other useful pots instead of saving the timer for a major healing (mighty rage pots, fire or shadow pots, free action pots)

in an intense boss encounter: well equipped dwarf warrior tank using:

-stoneform
-lifegiving gem
-last stand
-shield wall

simply u r unstoppbale for the duration but all in all, this trinket is a MUST for any guild's MT that has come this far; all other warriors should pass and let their MT have first dibs (if your guild uses DKP, throw up a courtesy pass) :-)

whats better for a tank in an end game raid Lifegiving Gem or Zandalarian Hero Badge ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=51829 )?

Lifegiving gem does give heal u for 15% but has a 5 min cooldown. Zandalarian Hero Badge gives u 2K amor and 30 deffence even though it is redused each hit but not by much and it only has a 2 min cooldown. With a 2 min cooldown u can pop this 2-4 times on bosses and some say its like a shield wall, but dont know if that true.

Lifegiving Gem would be better to wait and pop it when your low on health to save your self. Zandalarian Hero Badge u can pop every time it s up and help the healers out and save sield wall for when it gets tough.

So which is a better tanking trinket in an end game raid?

Nerfed into oblivion and complete uselessness. Enjoy this trinket to the fullest while you can; you will vendor it as soon as the patch hits.

Got this a few weeks ago. It really does help for tanking nasty bosses. Saved my ass when we were fighting chrommie as out MT died at 12% so I ran in as I was OTing and as the healing was not on be due to the rapid tank switch I popped that, last stand and shield wall. Had around 14k hp and was laughing. Probably never needed all that but better safe than sorry :D.

For normal fights it's basically a potion with a 5 min cooldown. So in a fight you have this, then if you are still in trouble, pop last stand, then a health stone, then you have a major healing potion as well as shield wall to fall back on too. Very nice trinket and just gives you alot more fallbacks if the healing gets light at particular points.

I recently got this and it first heals you for 15% of your total hp then it boosts your hp by 15% (which is also healed). So the extra 15% you gain is temporary but you still get a heal.

It's a warrior only trinket so ha :P

It works exactly the same way as LS does except it also heals you for 15%.

First, it'll heal you for up to 15% of your max hp if you are injured. Then it'll boost your HP by an additional 15%. No, it doesn't just set your max hp higher by 15% it'll add on to you the 15% worth of hp points. So, if you use this while you're health is at 85% or higher this trinket will heal you completely as well as increase your hp by 15%. You won't need healing :O

Is it just me or is the second portion of this trinket pretty much worthless...

The only time you'll use it is in combat, and then it won't matter what your max health is for 20 sec.

The only people I see making decent use out of this gem is for priests, druids, pallies and shaman... those who can immediately heal themselves for the extra life... of course by the time they are healed fully a good chunk of that 20 sec will be gone anyway..

IMHO, this item wasn't well thought out.

This is so good for Vaelastras BA it makes me cry. We killed him recently with only three warriors dead, if we all had this, maybe we could have done it with only two. Three MTs have Last Stand, btw.

And no, we didnt use any Flasks or potions, as we had three more warriors queued up and ready to die.

You guys have all been going on about 'its a pot' and 'use this after LS'. They are all ways it can be seen to improve you stats for a sustained amount of time.

Think of the Huhuran fight where ALL HELL breaks loose at 30%. Now use your head. 2 tanks, both with LS and LGG (and SW ofc).

31% comes, the slept melee dps awaken and GOGOGOGOGO!

Tank1 pops Nature Pot, LS THEN LGG THEN Shield Wall
Tank 2 keeps 5 seconds overlap and does the same as Tank1 at transition (except for popping the NR pot at 31%

The order is important for the amount of life you gain and time you have it for. The NR pot keeps u alive while you pop Last Stand, which gives a percentage health gain. THEN you pop Lifegiving Gem because it HEALS for a % of your CURRENT health after adding its 15% to the gain you just got from Last Stand. THEN you pop Shield Wall to sustain the increased health you have for the Race to 0% = GLORY FOR ALL!

In any situation however, ALWAYS LS THEN LGG for best use

If this works the same way as Last Stand, if you enable this and last stand at the same time, you've boosted your base HP, that is, you've temporarily healed yourself for 45%, for your priests to get you to full HP. Then after 20 seconds, it wears off and you're back to your normal HP, but alive.

Not to mention the 15% heal, anyway.

In what order do these effect occur? If you are at full health and then use this trinket, then would you still be at full health?

With that you dont even have to spam vent/chat that you are using mass taunt, they got time to target you even if there pass some time and then heal.

Nice PvP trinket in addition to owning for PvE. Having it's heal bonus reduced to 1500 from 15% makes it a bit better for level 60s, but reduces it potential at 70.

Really great mitigation trinket for those intense moments. As some others have said, its defintly best to use it just before your last stand ends. That way you both prolong your life and get a nice free self heal.
