This is a fairly useless elixir if you ask me. Requires 3 ancient lichen which can only be gathered in certain instances, and the reward is mediocre at best. 550 armor for an hour?

Comparing the Elixir of Major Defense (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=22834#M0z) to the Earthen Elixir (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=39637)

Considering the base stats of a protection warrior as follows:
15000 Armour, 11% chance to be missed, 25% block rate, 17% dodge, 17% parry, 250 block value.

Considering a boss mob (lv 73) that hits for 10,000 damage pre mitigation every 2 seconds. Sample taken is avarage of 5 runs through, each run consisting of 10,000 hits.

Default equip: Total damage taken is 20,718,964
With -20 dmg elixir: Total damage taken is ~20,610,164
With 550 ac elixir: Total damage taken is 20,432,561

Difference between -20 and 550ac is: ~177,603 damage

For a druid with default 7% chance to be missed, 30% chance to dodge, 26000 ac and the same boss, same hits etc

Default equip: Damage taken is 22,294,152
With -20dmg elixir: ~22,167,589
With 550ac elixir: 21,958,204

Difference between -20 and 550ac is: ~209,385

(Dmg with -20dmg elixir is taken as ( total damage - ( ( total damage / avarage damage ) * 20 )) so is approximate though somewhat accurate)

In all cases, Major Defense > Earthen.

Does this stack with the 2 minute armor potions?

Um, so true. The potions themselves are not useless. They're not the ones aggro-ing the mobs. If played well, potions (as well as anything that adds to stats like certain foods) can prove very useful. Get better groupmates next time!
