This item is considered a consumable, oddly enough. It's displayed in the Auction House when you search under the category "Consumable." Can they actually be consumed?

In preparing the tainted boar meat, this results. Fine. Can't vendor it. Not fit for consumption. But it's "white" -- does that make it useful in some other way?

Now a grey item, nonconsumable by players and trying to feed it to my very carnivorous pet begets a "your pet doesn't like that food".

I was thinking that myself. It's a white item, and isn't used for the quest that it's from. So shouldn't it be used for something, otherwise it should be grey right?

I'm not 100% on this, but the very fact it's white and has a description makes me think it figures into a quest later on. Besides, what does it hurt to have it sit in the bank for a while.

It's the result of a failed attempt to use the Purification Potion on tainted felboar meat. I doubt it has any use.

Grey items can always be sold to a vender, this is only white because a vender wont buy it, it has no use

These have a starting bid of 17 gold on my server... not exactly worthless. What they're being used for, though, I still don't know.

If you sold this stuff in the auction house then chances are that the buyer had no clue what he was buying. The buyer's name was included in the mail that the auction house sent you your money in. Maybe you should have asked the buyer why he bought the stuff.

There have been useless white items with a vendor price in the past that had their status changed to grey because they were simply vendor trash with the wrong item color. Consider it a bugfix.

There are many white items in the game that have a use but no vendor price.

There are epic items in the game that used to have a vendor price but don't have a price any more. The old PVP rewards used to be bought with gold if you had a high enough PVP rank to be qualified to buy them. Now you buy the stuff with honor points and you can't vendor it afterwards even if you bought it back when it cost gold.

There blue and epic mounts in the game that never had a vendor price but had their status changed from white to blue or purple not so long ago.

Patchnotes for version 2.1.0 mention several weapons that can't be vendored now but will get a vendor price and can be vendored starting with version 2.1.0.

I'm trying to point out that not every item with a certain will always have the same behaviour as all other items with the same color. There are always some exceptions and there are changes to color and behaviour of some items from time to time. Maybe if you'll write a ticket about this item then Blizzard will make it vendorable some time.

This item has been changed to gray in patch 2.1.0 and can be vendored for 2 silver.
