not really the "best" ring but if your looking for damage this could do quite well for mages, and or druids, since moonfire and starfire are both arcane spells and primary dps spells unless you like to nuke wrath left and right

This is, at the very least, a decent starter pre-raid ring for Arcane mages. It's also not that expensive to get- perhaps 40-50g for all the mats.

There's better, but this will last you until you get them.

Crappy drop rate.

The up-side of farming this is that the mobs drop Motes of Mana and high value vendor trash. I made about 50g of gray items, along with green drops and motes, I made about 160g AND I got the design.

Took about 3 hours of farming.

Drop rate shown takes into account ALL kills. However, the pattern will only drop for a JC. While it shows 0.1% or whatever, It is actually closer to 1-2%, I believe.

My farming was on the poor end: three consecutive nights and at least 300 kills (I spent some time completing local quests between screams of agony to reduce the impact of straight farming). I say at least 300, because I stopped counting around 250 on the second night. Count = those silly grey gem/shards they drop, which drops 1 per kill; I just ran out of bag space.

MANA USERS! Take LOTS of water with you just in case. If you agro mana seeker, they drain you like mad and there is NO juice vendor nearby. Area 52 is closest.

Sadly, I didn't even know this pattern existed, and it dropped for my shaman while doing the quest to kill the mobs there.

My apologies to those of you who farmed forever for this. I know the feeling.
