Costs about 80s at the vendor after being friendly with Cenarion Expedition, takes about a 1.5 secs to cast the flare and a Cenarion unit which does about 150 damage comes to your aid for about 30 seconds.

The item does not stack at all either.

The item doesn't stack in your inventory at all, 1 bag slot per flare, and has a 1 hour cooldown.

Also pays not to test the flare inside their encampment...
Otherwise the unit will go off and attack anyone from the other faction, and the encampment guards will kill the unit, and then yourself in the process

As stated above, DO NOT fire this off insdie the town.
It will attack anything that isnt friendly to you, causing the guards to kill it, then you.

Only useful thing I can see this helping on, is if you get too many adds while questing in zangar, and need like an extra 5% of help to not die.... then its useful. But not something to be counted on.

This is total USELESS.. the unit that comes to your ''aid'' inflicts hardly any damage, (hit for 150 and crits for 300 ), its dps is a joke, wont take the agro of you , and its not even instant, so you cant say you use it like before you die so it ll come to your aid..

If it lasted longer maybe it would be nice..but it doesnt.

Ugh... I used one to help me solo kill boglash... he attacked twice then disappeared... waste of 80s in my opinion.

Pretty helpful outside of the refuge, due to the fact that they have a faster run speed than typical players, so they can run down and potentially daze any fleeing members of the opposing faction. Of course, if they make it to camp and start getting beat on... well, that's been discussed already.

Pretty useful for me. I used it not when I was fighting an elite but when I got swamped by lesser mobs, so it took aggro from some and hit ok. Worth 80s.

I summoned this guy and he attacked the mob once before saying, "my work here is done," and fading away. I had decided to test it out, and had only attacked a green mob, so I was alright. I was left with a sense of disappointment mingled with amusement. It is either bugged or a waste of silver.

Now, I understand why ya'll say it's not worth it. And as a tank or a form of DPS, eh. But, regardless, it IS better than nothing when you're trying to solo some of these group quests. You're basically paying 80 silver for 500-1000 extra damage, and that's it. I've used the flare TWICE to help me solo both of the Naga leaders.

So, in absense of a buddy, this IS better than nothing.

As for effectiveness, I doubt he stayed longer than 10 seconds. Maybe as long as 15, but that's a big stretch.

I think how long the NPC lasts is random. Although I'm a 70 hunter I tested it out on Boglash, and had him fight it for 15 seconds before I engaged. I pulled aggro, used Feign Death and the then finished him off and the NPC was still standing. Overall he was up for about 30-45 seconds.

Well he scales with your lvl and can be buffed/healed like any other pet.
The one i used lasted for the entire fight, i was suprised to see it crit for some reason.
~~If you get one that lasts the entire fight it can make a fairly good tank.~~

Pricey, and the long cooldown is prohibitive. However, until you finish all the Zangarmarsh quests (which are all green until 70, and some are yellow all the way to level 67) it's worth having one in your inventory. Case in point - I was playing during a lull in server activity and couldn't find help for a level 63 elite quest. There's no way I could have taken a level 63 elite who summons multiple elemental minions at level 65, I'm just not an ace at the game nor do I carry around a pile of potions and special consumables. I started the fight, used my Bladefist's Breadth for a boost in power and shot off the flare. A level 64 tauren appeared. At first it looked like she wasn't doing much to the enemy naga. But as the battle wore on, I realized that she was being a great help - I backed off on attacking for a short while to heal myself and she actually managed to get aggro for a few seconds, though I got it all back as soon as I landed another hit.

If only the naga hadn't resisted my hammer of justice twice, I probably would have had enough mana for another heal. But I had to use Lay on Hands. Also, the Cenarion tauren despawned with plenty of health left when the elite was at about 7-8ish percent health. Regardless, I wouldn't have gotten the elite past 50% on my own. So I went out and bought another flare and plan on using it again!

Were the first few posters Horde players? I tried it in the marsh with my Night Elf character and the NPC did appear for me and was never killed.

It's also a one time use. So, it's gone after you use it.

Lasts 30-50Secs, hits for 100-150, crits for 200-300, dunno how much life, mayB nice for PvP.
Or mayB u can summon a lot of them at one moment, could be imba

You say it fights for you. can you have it while a pet is out? 'cause along with the steam tonk controllers, that would shaft hunters and locks pretty well.

I think this thng bugs Boglash if u use it on him i summmoned the guy thinking it would help me kill boglash, he hits boglash once then despawns, suddenly im getting hit by lightning tethers a mile away from him, he isnt moving, and i dont even see the channel for it

Pretty crap item, IMO. Long CD, and when I summoned one it ran in the opposite direction of the mob I was fighting, aggroed 5 others, and got me killed. Also, he only hangs around for a short time.

I should have known... When i first got it, i wanted to see the effects, used it right in Cenarion circle, it attacked an ally, i got pwned by guards, discovered hour CD

other than that, its pretty usefull, i carry one on me, ooo 80s, its outlands, thats like 2 mobs.

Just be warned, like all items of this type, it is set to aggressive, so after it helps u kill what u wanted, it will go fight again, before u want it to.

these are awesome -

*you can chain-pull mobs, and she/he will keep attacking them, one after another, as long as you are 'in combat'

*they can be buffed & healed

*they dont work in the instances, but DO work in the Zangar PvP fights.

*great 'panic button' on PvP servers

Wanted to see if one of these could help tip the balance and let me solo the elite naga guy with my feral druid (for the cenarion quest). Answer is no the flare suxx and isn't really any good apart from harassing people in pvp lol :p That elite naga is rough and can't be rooted sob. The female elite can be solod if your careful tho her freezing circle spell needs to be avoided like the plague.

Used it yesterday (Feb 13, 2008). It must have been bugged. The guy appeared (tauren female) and took one swing.

then the combat log said " yells:" and the damn thing despawned. I don't even know what it was gonna yell.

Maybe bugged.
