Five minute cooldown. It is slightly less threat reduction than Rank 5 (level 60) Fade, but permanent as opposed to Fade's reduced aggro being reapplied when the effect ends. I'm sure a godsend I'm not sure how threat limited some casters (read: warlocks) will be come new encounters and BC abilities, but I'm sure on threat-limited fights like Onyxia or BWL it could have its uses over a generic damage trinket like the DM class trinkets.

Probably not as useful for casters as the dodge trinket is for tanks.

In my opinion these "reduce your threat" items look totally useless. If the data here is correct (-720 threat) all they do is reduce your threat by 1 or 2 damage or healing spells once every 5 minutes. I wouldn't sacrifice a trinket slot for this. If you have agro problems this isn't going to save you.

This trinket is very tricky. It has a chance to increase threat instead of reducing it. In other words, it can backfire, so use it with care :o)

This trinket is useful for DPS classes which have no aggro drop (DPS warriors, in particular) in instances, even though sacrificing a damage trinket does hurt, it's nice to the healers to be able to drop aggro if you accidentally get it.

So how does this actually work? Click it one time and treat is reduced during the whole time untill you're logged out?
Or should one only activate it when a mob starts hitting you?

This item does NOT share the same cooldown as Jewel of Charismatic Mystique. https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27900. Thus, you can use both at same time.

I just responded to a post on the wowhead forums where somebody asked what the best tanking pet was. I posted the following relaying my turtle experiences. You may find this interesting.

I don't know the definitive answer to this question but i'd like to relay my turtle experiences here.

With maxed natural armor, and my toon wearing mostly mail, my turtle has 14143 armor at 70 which amounts to 57.26% dmg reduction. On top of this he has shell shield which reduces dmg taken by 50%. It has a 3 min. cooldown unfortunately. It should come as no surprise then that there is no pet that can take more of a beating than a turtle. This has been stated previously.

The problem is that unlike owls and gorillas they have no aoe attacks and have trouble holding agro of large mobs.

The only way however to get the best of both worlds is to use the turtle. There's nothing you can do to allow gorillas and owls to take more of a beating, but there are a number of ways to make your turtle better at controlling agro.

These include:
Intimidation (BM)
rotating growl around to different targets
Misdirection once you get it

Also if you are alone fighting mobs with your turtle and you pull agro, there are some things you can do to reduce your agro.
These include:
feign death
Trinkets like The hypnotist's watch, The jewel of charismatic mystique, and the Timelapse shard which cast basically cower and reduce your agro.
There's a cloak enchant that reduces your agro from all attacks by 2%

You're probably thinking why would I want to use these trinkets and give up my bloodlust brooch.

These trinkets are used for killing large mobs quickly and that's it.
If you're trying to farm obsidian war beads or motes of water in nagrand for example, it's faster to use volley and the super explodey trap on large mobs rather than killing things one at a time, since their damage scales linearly with the number of enemies they're hitting. (double the number of enemies = double the damage etc.) There's a very real benefit to using these but hunter's generally don't because because they pull agro off their pet, which before 2.3 was an even bigger problem because of the dead zone. When this happens you use the trinkets. In a way it's like having three feign deaths instead of one.

On a slightly different note, there are enemies that hit too hard for you to solo even with a turtle. That's where cower comes in. To my knowledge this is the only situation where cower would be useful.
Instead of sending in your pet and praying he lives you can send in your pet and before he's going to die, you pull the agro off of him and kite while you heal your pet and it continues to do dmg, then you have the pet pick him up again. and repeat. To get agro from your pet you can use distracting shot to help and your pet can use cower. Also turn growl off and on at the appropriate times.

My turtle's name is pizzaface. and just for laughs in shatt i frequently turn on bestial wrath and shell shield, big red sparkling turtle. hilarious.

Hope this helps you to die less.

This has been a god send as a resto shaman in early outlands instances like Underbog, Blood Furnace, Ramparts, etc. I'm not quite sure it'll still do the trick later on but some of you resto shaman may want to give it a shot.

I finally turned in the quest and took this watch and found that it DOES NOT share a cool down with the Grace of Earth trinket from Silithus (trinket that does the exact same thing). That is amazing! For the price of 2 trinket slots I can essentially fade twice every fight, as a Druid.

as it stands right now, warlocks have no active/innate ways to remove threat, this trinket will help out immensely! It's like giving us a new ability like Fade, except the effect doesn't end after like 10 secs..

Does anyone know if the has a shared cool down with Grace of Earth? That's the blue silithus trinket that does the exact same thing.

Works as intended, when your pet (felguard in this case) loses aggro, activate the watch and watch the mob attack your pet instead of you again.

Looks pretty nice for a DPS warrior who always has aggro issues. If your plan is pve go with this...pvp the dodge trinket owns.

its a reward from doing a quest for the goblins near the crashed zepplin. they're southwest of honor hold in hellfire peninsula. you want to start the quest chain from "screaming" screed luckheed.

It saves my hunter a ton of mana. Instead of intimidate or disengage, I pop this thing and its really quite reliable.

This is actually better than the Grace of Earth, about 14% stronger:

Threat: -650

Threat: -720

Here are all of the threat reduction items:

Permanently enchant a cloak to decrease threat caused by the wearer by 2%.

This is not a new enchantment, but it can relevantly be applied to:

Threat: -473

This can be aquired for 25x Sporecap from the Sporegaar Quartermaster in Zangarmarsh. The cooldown is the standard 5 minutes and the threat reduction is small, but it will stack with other items, and is a natural host for the -2% threat enchant.

Threat: -1075

This drops off of Grandmaster Vorpil in Shadow Labyrinth, and as I'm sure most players would rather roll for the shard than loot it should be easy to get. This has the same 5 minute cooldown but reduces 34% more threat than the Jewel of Charismatic Mystique.

Threat: -901

This is an epic purchasable (79g) reward requiring Exalted with Keepers of Time. Seeing as it also has heavy Stamina and Resilience, I am very interested in getting this for all instancing. While the Jewel of Charismatic Mystique reduces about 14% more threat than this per use, this epic trinket is on a mere 2 minute cooldown, the lowest for any item, making it much more effective for repeated use.

Threat: -800

Finally, with Exalted with Sporeggar, you can get the recipe for a threat reducing potion. -800 Threat on a 2 min cooldown has a drawback though, this shares a cooldown with other potions. Unless you're a healer, you probably shouldn't need potions until you get hit in the first place, which this potion offers to help avoid.

Threat: -70 (Aura)

This item reduces threat from the spells and damage you deal during it's 20 second duration. I believe the -70 threat mod may be actually -70% Threat, judging from the fact that the -2% Threat Cloak Enchant - Subtlety also lists a -2 Mod Aura. I'm not sure but seems possible for a 3 min cooldown epic trinket drop off Fankriss. Not sure anyone is going to fight Fankriss again though :). Thanks for MoonWolf for the heads-up on this item.

In closing, these items are great for Heroic mode instances where only the tank should have aggro.

Please help me choose between Hypnotist's watch and Charm of Alacrity!
I'm a mage and i don't do many dungeons.
Is the 10 sec increase of dodge rating by 10% worth it? Or will i be able to buy something like Hypnotist's watch on AH for example when I need it?
I know that at 68 level I'll get Invisibility spell, will it be equal by power with "watch"?

This is a life saver for Healers running instances with PuGs. There are also a lot of mobs that shed aggro from the tank and come straight for the Healer, this trinket is awesome when my Fade is on cooldown.

I'll most likely keep this trinket forever.
