tbh if your a hunter and you rolled on this your a total tard.
go get t4 helm and socket it crit meta + crit gem

the AGI + AP + CRIT gained from that is alot better

it would be far better for a shaman for example.

I wear this helm and its ok. In terms of dps, its not really any better then a fully blue-gem socketed Second Sight helm, and its worse then Demon Stalker helm. However, it has a lot of int, and thats probably the only good thing about it, since it pushes my mana over 6.6k. I have good AP/crit so I can afford to wear this.

So basically if you don't have your T4 helm yet, take it. For hunters its not that hard to get the T4 helm since both mages and locks prefer Spellstrike Hood instead of their T4 helms.

And by the way, this helm would be amazing if it had sockets instead of sta/int.

Agreed. This helm is nice. Just dropped for my guild last night, I rolled on it and lost. But after I realized it really is not better than https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=31106#z0z I wasnt that upset. I'll prolly wont upgrade it till I get the cataclysm helm. The sockets is what makes second sight better. I personally have + 3 Strength + 4 Stamina (In all three), which gives 86 AP with the socket bonus and you gain 4mp/5 & 31 Agility.

But it's -13 Stam and - 29 Int. Which we all know as an enhancement shammy you are gonna have to sacrafice your mana pool to get some ap and + crit.

FYI, I also have the lower city enchant (+ 17 Strength + 16 Intell).

got this helm from maulgar yesterday. it's a nice helm, but i won't be wearing it instead of my second sight helm. however, with the crit, AP and heavy sta, it's a really nice pvp helm

The stats listed here are much better than the current live version of Maulgar's Warhelm. Is this 2.1 data or a mistake? 16 more crit rating, 10 more AP, a hair less int and more stam? Very nice. Hope this goes live.

As an enhancement shaman, I would consider this post 2.1-buff to be one of the top helms in the game. It's got nearly perfect stat distribution (would trade some stam for hit rating). Considering it's from the easiest 25 man boss, I am very happy!

https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29040 Even with sockets Maulgar's is better. Crit rating over agi, even with kings Maulgar's is higher on crit, AP, and int. Too much for sockets to make up.
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=25998 Probably still better overall for PVP, especially considering set bonuses. For PVP moreso than PVE, that meta gem is very valuable.

For a hunter the Agi makes up for the lack of equip AP. MM gets alittle AP from the Intel. This helm is basically a AP helm where the Warhelm is a Crit helm.

Those stats translate into (assuming you added +8 Crit and +12 Crit / 5% stun resist gems and got the set bonus):

391 Mana
105 AP (129 AP with +24 AP / run speed increase meta instead)
1.8% Crit (1.25% crit with +24 AP / run speed increase meta instead)

Maulgar's Warhelm

715 Armor
+43 Stamina
+31 Intellect
Equip: Improves critical strike rating by 42.
Equip: Increases attack power by 86.

Translates into:
430 HP
450 Mana
86 AP
1.9% Crit

So Maulgar's Warhelm gives you -slightly- more crit and less AP but has a lot more stamina and intellect. Ideal for a Shaman perhaps but Hunters can make very good use of it as well. Disregarding set bonuses, Maulgar's Warhelm is somewhat better for Marksman Hunters whom do not depend on pure agility. For Survivalists, the T4 helm is preferable.

I snagged this because no one else wanted it, and all I had was the Beast Lord helm. But I think I'm going to replace this in a week with the Merciless Gladiator's Chain Helm--isn't that a better upgrade, even for PvE?

sadly enough, this was an upgrade from my overlord's helm... the guild wanted to DE it since all the shammies and hunters had better. So this warrior is happy. :]

ot this only 1 in the raid who needed yea u lose agilty but when u are marks then it doesnt make that big of diff im currently at 25%crit and 2000ap talk about kick ass and that is unbuffed

just got it today. very nice for my BM build. Compared to SV hunter, BM is not necerssary to stack so many agi, cuz we don't have to do much Melee job. this helm gives me more crit and more AP which increase my dps a lot.

again, more crit = more KC = more dmg. =)

Nice...I'm survival specced right now and I'm at 25.37% crit 1500 Ap. I would still love this helm and even respec for it, but dude, 2000 Ap and 25%+ crit that's amazing. I solute you.

Not very good for survival hunters, but not so much because of the lack of Agi, but the lack of slots, particularly a meta slot.

Using this over most epic helms means you can't use a relentless earthstorm diamond, which gives you 3% more damage on crits, as well as 12 agility.

Even a MM or BM hunter would probably gain more by having a helm with lower stats that include a meta slot.

This is a great helmet for both hunter and shaman; it have crit rating instead of the hunters agi, and AP instead of the shamans strengt ...

So those who say it isnt for hunter, it is!

It's better than the t4, at least for BM hunters. This helm gives you a greater crit chance which I will take any day over the 3% increased crit damage from the meta gem because the crits = kill command as well. This is just my opinion and I've done little math, but I'll take straight crit rating over anything else that's offered to me by gear. Once I get my crit over 30% I'll probably switch over to the t4 or t5 if possible.

Ok, last night I did Gruul's and got Maulgar's helm off of High King, after Gruul's the guild threw together a couple of grps to either do ZA or Kara. I went to the Kara grp to get some easy badges. When we downed Prince the T4 helm dropped and I was the only one able to grab it so i got it by default. Now looking at the stats im not sure which one i wanna use. Ive got a 20 ap meta gem and a 8 int gem in the t4 helm. The Warhelm seems to be a bit better but with the skin blizz put on it (completely !@#$%^ed) I think id rather go for the looks lol, but i know ill be using the Warhelm when I spec BM for pvp cause of the stam. I'm Marksman atm 12/46/3.
A little guidance from some fellow hunters would be great right now. Thanks in advance :)

I got this helm awhile ago, First run to Gruul's and I was completyely undergeared, Was the only hunter that didn't have t4 so they gave it to me. I like it, Probably not gonna replace it for awhile.
