I'm wondering - how does this compare against the Veiled Noble Topaz (+4 spell hit and +5 spell damage) for a raiding caster? Obviously Warlocks get the most benefit out of it, but as a Mage? I ended up with one of these and I don't want it to go to waste.

I have one of these on my disc priest. There's only a few places to put spell hit on a pvp healer since none of our items have it. There's glove enchant, head enchant, and gems... most healing priests I see run the dmg and spell hit enchant on the helm + the glove enchant then stack stamina gems. I rarely see them use the gem slots for spell hit.

I prefer the ZG helm enchant or even the healing helm enchant over the spelldmg/+hit one, the spell hit to gloves is a must, and then I run with one of these and a https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30564. I'll replace that orange gem with another one of these as soon as 2.4 comes out...

Excelent gem for filling those meta requirements. and yellow slots = haste!

great on my warlock leggings of channeled elements, a blue gem here and belt of blasting makes my meta, the rest of my hit crit and haste get to fill up those nice yellows.

I've been running this instance all week and still havent seen it drop. The rate seems pretty low. For someone not hit capped. this gives more dps than any other exept runed living ruby.

In a guild run to Heroic Slave Pens, two of those dropped in a row and a mage and me (warlock) got one each. Not because we wanted but because the group decided we should have them.
However, I have it in the bank because to be honest, for a epic gem it seems at bit.. underpowered? :-)

My mage friend has the same "problem".

My new engineer goggles have a blue slot, and I briefly considered using this gem, but decided for a blue one obtainable at Auction House for around 30 gold that gives +5 spell damage and +6 stamina.

So anyone using this one and why?

yea i got it to but im a druid :/ and the mage didnt want it... but i guess its realy usefull when your friends is getting mindcontrolled and you want to spam them with moonfire

This gem is quite amazing, for a shadpriest.

There really are no good dps yellow gems for us, this is handy =)

Since it drops in Heroic Slave Pens, there is no cost.

This is a great gem for any casting DPS class. It has Spell Hit and Stamina. If you want your casts to not be resisted you need to get your hit up to 16% for your PVE gear... any mage that didn't roll on this is out of their mind.

Extraordinarily valuable gem. This is currently one of only 2 gems currently in the game that provides + to spell hit in a Blue socket.
