This trinket is good for mostly Enhancement shamans with a low mana pool. If you have enough mana to last you through 2-3 people within 1-3 min than Astral Winds is a better choice.

or, you could do what I plan to do, and make a macro that first switches to this totem, then casts SS, then switches back to Astral Winds (the only passive one) in time, you can have a specific macro with a specific totem for all healing spells, lightning, shocks, and SS

Yes Dakoth, I have to agree with you. However, pls remember that this is a quest reward (for an average difficulty group quest) whilst the Astral Winds is a drop from Heroic Mana Tombs.

As to this quest, this means that, for enh. shammies, it's better to take the ring over this totem reward.

In all honesty, I'd say its a tossup between this totem and this little bundle of joy that drops off Hungarfen. Which do we want more, less expensive Stormstrikes, or more an even better Water Shield?

I'm gonna leave this one up to personal taste.

Edit: Patch 4.0 did a number on this totem. When I wrote this years ago, the totem I linked provided a buff to a Shaman's water shield that made it one of the better general-use spellcaster ones.

This totem is bugged and has been since release. It only reduces the mana cost of Stormstrike by 20, not the listed 22.

I don't see myself ever using this. Mana is never really an issue and untill I get astral winds or stonebreakers, I'll be using the one I picked up at a vendor at level 62 - https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27947

Equipping this totem in a Stormstrike macro won't give you any benefit because when you cast Stormstrike before equipping the totem, you won't have the mana cost reduction.

Unfortunately, this totem is really quite poor. 11 mp5 is a trivial benefit for enhancement shaman. You'd be better off going with Totem of Impact (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27947 ) until you can get Totem of the Astral Winds (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=27815 ) or the badge totem.

Don't take the ring if you are enhancement or plan to be enhancement. My fiance' has two of the rings from the Epoch Hunter, that is 42 AP apiece plus 38 stamina and 34 resilience. She gets 6% to hit from her talents alone, and she has no problem connecting with her weapons.

However, totems are hard to come by. And this is one of the very few that an enhancement could put to uber use.

Stormstrike is costing her 211 mana, meaning 22 mana for an ability she uses constantly is extremely valuable.

Even if you are not enhancement spec, other gear is available. She takes every totem she can get her hands on, as you never know when you might change your mind. Rings she can get easy.

meh there's the argument that there's better rings...
but there's also better relics
if you plan on using either one forever... youre bad
so just pick the ring
who cares about mana anyway

Take band of Anguish over this, it's alot better than some rings you'll get at that point.

There is also one, much much better totem, which is: Totem of the Astral Winds

it's at the end of a rather large quest chain in shadowmoon...not sure on the first quest

btw the entire chain is soloable
